    I'm amazed, as I had always thought Toyotas had timing chains instead of belts that need changing to avoid serious engine damage as valves and pistons out of sync bang into each other. Tina is a great mechanic !

    One thing you should do before putting the timing belt cover back on is spin the engine over by hand twice. Recheck the marks. If all is ok then refit covers and start the engine.

    Great work! I've heard you could take a blade knife and split the old belt in 2, while running the engine, with caution of course. Remove the outer half, install the new belt, half way on every cogged wheel etc then cut away the remaining old belt and slide the new fully in. Have never tried, but made sense when I heard it. Keep up the good spirit and work you both. /Rasmus

    • @Bensgarage
      @Bensgarage  Před 5 lety +1

      If it were my truck then I would probably change it for a new one, but the owner of this truck was being tight and wouldn't pay the extra which if bought with the belt was only about €30. If it fails its down to him.

    Hi I Always thought you had use locking pins on deisal. Thanks

    • @Bensgarage
      @Bensgarage  Před 4 lety

      On these engines its pretty straight forward, belt only goes round the cam pulley and the injector pump pulley. There are marks on both pulleys so easy to get it right, a dab of paint also helps. Multiple pulley cambelts I would use pins .

    Why didnt you do the water pump at the same time mate?

    • @Bensgarage
      @Bensgarage  Před 5 lety +1

      Two reasons! First it wasn't leaking, although I would normally change the water pump especially if it needed moving to tension the belt. And secondly the owner of the truck was being a tight git and didn't want to spend extra on water pump or even a new tensioner. If it goes then its his loss.

      @@jro341 the 90-95 4Runner looks to be the same as a hilux surf. The hilux was available in the UK, but the 4Runner/surf was a grey import from Japan (normally) to be right hand drive for UK roads. Either it’s my memory fading, but even after my time working on Toyotas, I can’t think if the chassis’s were the same. May be ask on a Toyota forum, they are likely to have the answer.
