  • Welcome to day 12 of #bookmas 2022 (yes I missed another upload...if you don't mention it I certainly won't)! Today let's clear out the old and make way for the new by DNFing series I started in 2022 that I won't be continuing with.

    What is Bookmas?
Bookmas is Booktube's answer to Vlogmas and everyone kind of does their own thing. For me, it means I try to get a new video out every day from December 1st to December 24th. That means 24 consecutive videos!!! Be sure to subscribe and hit the bell notification so you don't miss anything!

I may have received some of these books for free through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts are my own.

Life's too short to finish series you don't love! 😁
(Thanks for the shout out! I'm glad you enjoyed my rambling TBR video!)

All here for this vibe of letting go of things that no longer bring joy!! Now, I haven't read this series myself, but if you are looking for Dresden without the male gaze and frustrating characters, you might want to check out the Alex Verus series by Benedict Jacka. I've heard nothing but good things from people I really trust, so maybe that could hit the spot for you!

The laugh at the end of the lady Trent spiel was hilarious

I was waiting for Lady Trent to show up!
I have a feeling a friend is buying me Valor for Christmas, so I'll read it and let you know if it is worth continuing!

Oh no Paper Magician is one of my faves, yes the romance continues so since you didn't like it I'd definitely say no use continuing.

I'm also struggling with The Iron Druid series. I am 4 books in and I thought I was having trouble with the narrator of the audiobooks but it could just be the writing. It actually never occurred to me to DNF the series.

Tess of the Road used to be on my radar and then kind of fell off. I think it was the cover for me too because now that I think about it, I can't actually remember hearing a single positive review.

Definitely get the issue with Dresden and Hounded, that kind of character seems super prevalent. I liked the first book of the Felix Castor series (The Devil You Know) by Mike Carey more than I liked Dresden. He's a British exorcist in an alternate London with ghosts and werewolves and all kinds of supernatural creatures but he does less of the white knighting and constant sexual references with women. There might be a few comments in there, it's been awhile since I read it but I remember liking it a lot better just in terms of the main character. Might be worth a try if you want another urban fantasy that's similar to Dresden and presumably Hounded (though I haven't picked up that one).

Honestly, I thought I was the only one not able to get past the first book in the Dresden Files. I even tried audio to see if that helped. Nope.

Could Not Stand the Harrow retellings AT ALL! I loved 10000 doors of January. It's the only Harrow I have ever liked. I did read once and future also.
I liked Seraphina but haven't read the Tess book yet and now I am glad I haven't!
Mask of Mirrors couldn't be more different from anything else Brennan has written. I think you'll enjoy it.
    Hated HATED HATED Hounded.
Shadow of the gods I liked. Hunger of the gods put me off reading anything with a war or battle for over a year because there was no rest from them in the book.
