    They are meant to be inserted fully and to only fix a crimped pipe from a clamp. When you pulled it half way out is what caused it to break. The wedges on the ends of the tool are what makes it expand. All the force instead of being spread out over the entire tool was now diverted to the end hanging out of the pipe because there was less resistance there. The center of the dies are not supported by the wedges and so now the tool breaks. Maybe if the makers of the tools would put instructions on the packaging maybe some of these tool failures would not happen. They really shouldn’t be called pipe expanders in the first place. They are meant to restore pipe to be round not bigger!

    A saws all (reciprocating saw) with a metal cutting blade works really well for cutting exhaust pipe

    I worked at a really small workshop for a short period of time, but what they did, was heat the pipe with a torch and then used the expand tool; for the cutter, you needed a firm table and a way to hold or to tie both legs of the cutter, your hand is not strong enough to keep it tight. In any case, it is cheaper and easier to use an angle grinder for cutting outside of the car, and a reciprocating saw when installed.

    Your exhaust pipe for the cutter is not perfectly round thus you wont get . Your tail pipe expander must have the large bolt greased and you are not supposed to use an impact or it can shatter. the expander is also not for stainless steel. The tools dont suck ass, you're using what the directions tell you NOT TO USE in conjunction with those tools.

    When i was on the shop grind I used that exhaust expander all the time. We never had issues with it not working with our air tools.

    Those chain cutter things work okay the first time, but after that they're too dull and pretty much suck. I used it for the resonator delete on my S3 and it worked pretty well, tried to use it again a year or so later and it took me like an hour, lmao.

      Yeah I was like F that I have a band saw/metal chop saw/ angle Grinder I can make easy work of the pipes much better than that thing. I think if it’s on the car like you’re saying it will do a cut or two.

  • @Koop2k
    @Koop2k Před 4 lety +3

    Those roller cutters dull instantly when you use it on stainless like that. Same with you pipe there, much harder material than that is made for.

    The tail pipe cutter that has locking pliers works great. You need to be able to keep the existing clamping force while slowly tightening. Nearly impossible to do with that cutter in the video.

      Zip tie trick works perfect, especially if you can clamp the pipe somehow(not holding the pipe in-hand)

    Expanderers work great but you tried to expand on a bend where one side is ruggeder than the opposing side and the impacts from the beast Milwaukee vibrate the speader plates and break it prematurely you should have used a ratchet tightened then loosen then turn then repeat till desired size is achieved

    Make a quick sound clip of the exhaust as it is...LoL, lasthumansgarage is always working them pipes hahaha ; )) also obsessed garage m5 he couldn't cut his pipe with that cutting tool. Anyways keep doing your thing B. (P.S. Mark of Lhg was hypereventlating because of .1 inches Ahahaha )

    You need to use a more powerful drill and insert the expanding tool completely in the pipe.

    750 ft lbs? neah. run it till it will go no more. then see what torque a torque wrench will move it at. I have found so called high torque wrenches really only do about 100 to 150 foot lbs.

    @gfoe1499 Před 2 lety

    Thing definitely does not do 750 foot pounds of torque if you’re holding it like nothing you’d definitely need like a vice to hold that thing in place if it were to actually do 750footpounds

    That expander is not used for that purpose. It is only used to expand a piece of pipe that has been installed previously and was dented where the clamp compressed it. It removes the dent from where the clamp was so whatever piece of exhaust your trying to reuse can be salvaged. Unless your just joking, I thought everyone already new this.WTF? Most motorheads catch on to this at about ten years old. And the cutter, you will have better luck cutting aluminum and copper and some other non ferrous metals and maybe some pvc. Be real, your clamping it on with hand pressure. And all these other comments I'm reading are very disappointing. No wonder why the USA has been falling behind. Lay off the doobers people until you've learned too much and you need to forget some shit.Dudes!

      the thing is literally called an exhaust tubing flare tool. People aren't dumb, many of us have never messed with the exhaust system, so this vid is good info. I wasted $20 on one of those junk Chinese flare tools, & wondered if I wasn't the only one.

    really dude? i thought you need the pipe cutter for a pipe that is fitted on the car....an d why do you put the whole expander into the pipe? try it with 2-3 cm and than further on...

    You’re using the wrong bits on the impact. Use an actual impact socket and it’ll work better.

  • @njhotroder
    @njhotroder Před 2 lety

    That particular Tailpipe expander doesnt work on stainless steel. Also not to be used with impact. It works on aluminum or steel and not with an impact. Your using them wrong that is why your not getting the desired effect.

    First, you have to know how to use those tools to make them Work. Find a Video or a "Muffler Man" that shows you how to use them before you diss a tool. Unless of course, you're just making a "Dilbert, and why I look Stupid" Video.
