  • In this video, Joe teaches users how to update a Honeywell LYNX Touch Panel using the LYNXTOUCH-MSD Firmware Updater Tool. The module can update the firmware on an L5210 or L7000 Panel. The firmware update should be applied to a microSD card. The updater tool will then apply the update to the panel.
In the past, it was only possible to update the firmware on a LYNX Touch through an Over-The-Air (OTA) update. But with the LYNXTOUCH-MSD Firmware Updater Tool, it is now possible apply a firmware update locally at the panel. This is advantageous in many situations, included cases where the panel might not yet be monitored. Remember that many monitoring paths require a minimal firmware version.
Before using the LYNXTOUCH-MSD Tool, you must power down the panel completely. This is done by disconnecting the transformer for the panel and unplugging its backup battery. The panel screen should go entirely blank to indicate that the system has completely powered down. You will then be able to perform the firmware update process.
The LYNXTOUCH-MSD actually goes in the same port as the L5100-WIFI Module. You will need to remove the L5100-WIFI before you can insert the LYNXTOUCH-MSD. You can perform the update after the LYNXTOUCH-MSD module has been inserted. Press and hold the panel home button while plugging the transformer back in. You may need a second person to help you do this.
Continue to keep the home button held down until a menu appears. Then select the option to update the panel. It will take a few moments to update the panel. You should choose Update, followed File System. Then finish by selecting the desired firmware version. The system will let you know when the process is complete. The update will go into effect when the system is powered back on again.

    Great way I learned today:
    1) Power down panel (AC & Battery)
    2) Connect MSD Updater
    3) Reconnect battery and power, close cover, and let panel boot normally
    4) Go into Tools (use installer code), Select "Test", and then "Diagnostics", and then "Reboot"
[Basically you are looking for Reboot - which I am pretty sure its under Diagnostics]
    5) After you confirm the reboot - just press and hold the "Home" button and wait for the updater tool to start upon reboot
This way you don't have to run to the transformer, or try and reconnect wires with the panel still open.

Hey Alarm Grid can that also work on a Lynx touch l5000?

I just ordered the LYNXTOUCH-MSD Firmware updater tool from you. Where do I find future firmware updates?

You will have the latest version. All future updates will be posted on the Alarm Grid website.

Hey Alarm Grid can revision 9 work for the L5100's?

It seems like a downgrade. We now have to purchase hardware that conflicts with the current hardware in the box. Future or current firmware can't be found on the Alarm Grid or Honeywell site. In the past Alarm Grid would install the firmware. I purchased my L7000 in hopes that it would upgrade in the future, I can't see that it has had any improvements since I purchased it ~5 years ago.

We were able to send firmware updates down in the past but the manufacturer took that feature away, So they started manufacturing the updater tool. It will update it to the latest software. The update should not conflict with the panel as long as it is an L5200 , L5210 or an L7000

@@joshuagriffin2807 It's a hardware conflict on the L7000 from what I can see. It onflicts with the WIFI module.
I don't see a place where one downloads the firmware. I don't see spending $'s on this if I can't see where one downloads new firmware nor view release notes for new versions.
I like AlarmGrid but feel like Honeywell wasn't the best choice.
I now need to purchase a new Verizon card and the updater card. Seems like I should look at purchasing a new modern panel. Something that can use my 5800 sensors as the real money was in all of the sensors.
I have already migrated my ZWave network away from the panel as the ZWave support and programming is just a total disappointment.
