Metamorphosis just raised the bar for the “wrong route” type of choose in video game. Plus it is literal representation of how these choices could destroy the life of a person.
Its a concept that would never fly in a film/series. Thats why i like it...youre supposed to feel awful after reading it. Its extreme and disgusting much like the world we live in. Id say it was very effective in doing what it wanted to convey

I actually kind of enjoyed it, not because I'm into the tags tho. But it's because it's a well written dark story, those back then were pretty uncommon

What a humble dude, dismissing that the story had any deeper meaning and saying it was only for entertainment purposes. I believe the author of Monster had also said the exact same thing about his works as well.
Art is subjective, we all heard of that. So its up to us to give it meaning in our own perception. The author's intent is that, but that doesn't mean we can't give our own take on what has been presented to us. Such a bittersweet ending to a depressing,sad, yet eye opening story. Just hope people will see the beauty of the story itself and not just slander it for the more profane things shown

When I first watched the Trash Taste ep where they talked about Metamorphosis, my friends and I found it funny that Connor thought it was unrealistic for the mom to blame her daughter for what happened. He's too innocent for this world. Also clearly he has a fairly healthy relationship with his parents. So it's cool to see him admitting he was mistaken about that lol
Connor has clearly been fed the silver spoon. I always knew him as someone trying to be humble to justify being weird. That's one way to live a life I suppose.

Honestly, there are more fucked up hentai out there, but Metamorphosis hold higher value simply because it shows touch of realism. What happen with Saki surprisingly happen in real life, maybe not common but it's out there.
I mean, when you finish reading fucked up disgusting hentai your reaction probably be like, "Oh okay" then you continue living your life. You know that shit won't happen in real life. When I finish reading Metarmophosis, I cried at the ending and felt depressed for 3 days.

Its also a kind of a good case study of what drug addiction can affect your life
Likewise it has stayed with me, I just cannot get rid of it. It was so depressing.
Infortunately, t*rture and snu*f does happen also in reality. But I guess the concrete or raw info/material to make a compelling story about these were pretty much hard to find specially through normal methods.
It's not just that it happens in real life. A lot of the stuff depicted in more fucked up hentai happens somewhere in the world, too. Metamorphosis's claim to fame, though, is that it ernestly makes us emphasize with Saki. It focuses more on her development and slow spiral downward than the s**, which makes it feel more real than many other mangas with drugs and messed up parents.
An example I like to use is Eisei no Zen. The premise of that manga is entirely unrealistic - it's about an immortal woman being tortured by an emperor who wants to unlock the secrets of immortality, and the karma exacted as a consequence. Obviously fantastical, but it's portrayed in such a philosophical way that you can't help but relate it to real life.
The part that fucked with me the most was the mother blaming her for “seducing” the father. I’ve heard of that happening irl way too much, it’s depressing.
I remember a transfer student in college was Japanese and he was so eager for us to show him around NYC. We all had to temper his expectations because this city is a shithole that tourists will only like if they're visiting for like a week once every 5 years. He loved Central Park but when we walked in any place that wasn't Midtown he was just like "this place reeks of garbage"
I mean a lot of cities smell that way or pee. They are not known for being clean.

So in NYC, we do leave our garbage out in bags on the street instead of inside of in containers, so yes, if it was the middle of summer, it would reek of garbage. Doubly so if you were in a place with a lot of restaurants and fish markets like Chinatown.
That being said, I do love living here and have all my life. It’s gotten to the point where I can’t see myself living anywhere else (any place I’d move would need to have a comparable mass transit system since I don’t drive at all, and that narrows my options quite a bit, especially in the US).

I’m surprised that he didn’t intend for Metamorphosis to send a message, because for me it sent the message of how easy it is to fall. The girl went from normal life to destitute in less than a year just because of a few bad choices. It helped me think about my job in pharmacy, about just how many people get suboxone, which is a drug that helps with opioid withdrawal, and about how any of them could have just made that one bad choice that sent them down the wrong path. It’s scuffed because it’s realistic.
More than not having a message, it doesnt have a moral message at the end, sure, but it just shows a facade of humanity. There is little to nothing that Saki couldve done different, it just happened. She wanted to try something new and it sent her down a spiral with no one to go to.
I mean...it's an ero-manga. So...at the end of the day. He made it for people to get off to it. I don’t think he makes stuff to make a statement. I think he just says "How fucked up can I go?" Lmfao
@@liamerasmus8592 That's the beautiful thing with art though, the reader/viewer can extrapolate meaning out of art as it relates to themselves, without any intention from the creator, even if it's hentai.
Any story will have a message IMO. Even if the writer never intended to make one by creating a story they will inevitably give a message of some kind-whether it'll be "good will triumph over evil", or "love is good". I guess for this story was that life's absolutely fucked and this could happen to someone in real life

I read through Metamorphosis, stopped 1/3 of the way through before finishing it completely.
What makes it most disturbing and depressing, is that it's grounded in reality.
The things that happen in it, can and probably have happened to people in real life, which makes it even more depressing.
That's also what fucked me up with it. Usually you have some very outrageous element to the manga that allows that full disconnect from reality, but Meta was a story you hear pretty often of young impressionable girls being manipulated by predators and wind up addicted to drugs and reliant on the abusers. While this one was a very hard read for me, it is kind of a warning call.
I read it when I was in middle school and after finishing it was just "that's scary but okay".

Saki's downward spiral was a really sad read for me, I found myself unintentionally skipping a few pages everytime I knew something bad was gonna happen to her. Watching her get abandoned and taken advantaged of by the world made me think of how fortunate I am that I can live my life peacefully. AND THIS IS A HENTAI???
I finished reading this a few days ago and can't stop thinking about the ending. Porn is not supposed to be like this. I wasn't even focusing on the spicy bits. The pure depression and bad feels about this work is something special. I feel touched. Something about this hits too close to reality. Hats off to the artist for creating this mess of awfulness.

The saddest part to me is that Saki never got to be happy. Most tragedies start with a character in a happy place, or a relatively good place, and then slow fall. Saki's entire life is *just the fall.* Even in the beginning, Saki's life is boring, sterile, and miserable. No friends, no fun, nothing real. By the end her life is raw hedonism - sex, drugs, and attention - but all empty. She just goes from one kind of deeply miserable to the *opposite* kind of deeply miserable, and then *dies.*
She never even got the chance to save herself.

Metamorphosis would be an incredible dark tragedy story if it wasn't a hentai. The sex scenes are drawn in hentai style, that means they are drawn to be hot, but that takes away so much from the tragedy of the situation. If it was another hentai with generic story and rape tropes I wouldn't care, but because this had such big potential the sex scenes make it actually disgusting.
Yeah, i read metamorphosis for the first time yesterday and i feel the pornographic element to it somewhat downplays how grippingly depressing the story is. Even today that ending page still latches to my brain.

At the end of the day, it's fiction so I don't really care if you like it or not, or if you appreciate it or not. But I certainly don't agree with the high praise for it being this really incredible, thought-provoking work. Especially since most of the conversation surrounding it doesn’t have anything to do with the themes, but the graphic and disturbing content.
Anyway, if you want something that's on the complete opposite end of the spectrum (mostly) I'd recommend Jorori's works.

I'm not against depicting disturbing themes like rape in media and entertainment, but I am against glorification and banalization of those themes. It should be depicted as it is, a horrible act with no positives. It can be raw, but it shouldn't be long nor super sexualised. Because by doing so you undermine its impact. And case in point, people only talk about it for being disturbing and graphic like you said.

Knowing how Saki died made the story more good. Seeing how she off'ed herself made it worth the read for me. It shows how even the most innocent of all innocent human beings can be contaminated with just one single vile of shit(Hayato)... It's always fun to see stories like that where you see a main character who's well dignified and well presented slowly crumble and destroy themselves. Makes it more interesting (At least for me)

This is why shit like metamorphosis and punpun (Or NGE to an extent) is memoriable. Most stories try to scare you with gore or edgy downward spiral, but real adult horror is inescapable depression.

Here's the real ending: You follow the blood trail to the bathroom and find her. You call the ambulance. Then later on you check on her at the hospital. You become very good friends with her and kind of protect her. Now the ending with her and her daughter is real because you basically rescued her.

Cuz I remember that that was the peak of bizarre/guro eromanga for a long time and I would love to see Garnt and Connor's reaction to it.
Daily Life was the most fucked up thing I've ever read, to this day. Particularly because despite it being so crazy, it WAS a somewhat logical conclusion of what would happen if an immortal young girl got caught up in human trafficking. And it was particularly inspiring how Mai-Chan, somehow, stayed optimistic despite all the shit she went through

The story of Metamorphosis is such a common thing where I’m from and I feel that’s the most horrifying part.
Metamorphism was crushing to read all those years back but that is what marks its quality I suppose. Like a car accident that gets worse and you just can't look away for some reason.

Unironicly a masterpiece with how it's convays the true depths of depravity that occur everyday without a majority of us even knowing and the ending was so masterfully done that when I read it for the first time I thought she was still alive and was filled with hope that her life would be turn around until I realized what happened and was depressed more then usual for about a week or 2 . It's written like a great shien but with alot and more detailed intercourse .
