There is a black glue in this video known as cutback adhesive. It can contain asbestos and you should not grind or sand this glue. I simply left the glue alone and did not disturb it at all. Therefore it remained a safe environment to work in.
WARNING: Do not sand, dry scrape, beadblast or mechanically chip or pulverize existing resilient flooring, backing, lining felt, asphaltic
“cutback” adhesive or other adhesive. These products may contain asbestos fibers and/or crystalline silica. Avoid creating dust. Inhalation
of such dust is a cancer and respiratory tract hazard. Smoking by individuals exposed to asbestos fibers greatly increases the risk of serious
bodily harm. Unless positively certain that the product is a non-asbestos-containing material, you must presume it contains asbestos.
Regulations may require that the material be tested to determine asbestos content. RFCI’s Recommended Work Practices for Removal of
Resilient Floor Coverings are a defined set of instructions addressed to the task of removing all resilient floor covering structures. These
instructions should be consulted with each installation. Hope this helps you understand how to be safe with this glue.

Mostly vinyl sheet flooring. When laminate and lvt came out, I used all the procedures that Mr. Joe did. This man is the real deal. I did the self leveling powder trick too. I hated sticky.

Excellent videos. In the 80’s we did the exact same thing with the “ cheater tile “ but the vinyl flooring was only 12” squares and a sticky back. I’ve never done vinyl planking and always wondered how you lock in both sides (width and length) of the plank at the same time. You sir taught an old dog a new trick. It’s refreshing to see someone that actually knows what they’re doing. For that I thank you.

I wish I had seen this video two days ago! I just put vinyl plank in a small room and the planks separated due to falling shims so we had to redo them. Then the locking trick didn't dawn on me until halfway across the room. It still came out OK, and the moulding will hide all the sins.

Great video. I wish I had the same luck you did. I bought the Misty Harbor Mohawk VPF from Costco. It's a really good looking floor. But, installation was very hard. The starter row went fine. But I found out on the next row why it went so easy. It was because I could lift and snap the flooring joints together. When I went to lay the second row, the instructions said line up the long joint first and the use a block to tap the joints home. Well there was no tap about it. I had to beat the crap out of them to get them to join together. I looked and re-looked at the instructions to see what I was doing wrong. After about 3 rows I finally started spraying the joints with silicone spray to get them to slid together. I eventually won and the floor look great, but no easy task to be sure.

Thank you sir for your awesome instruction. For me when I use a sharpie-type pen, I use the pen as an eraser. I take the pen and draw right back over the same line with it. It reactivates the mark and then you can wipe it off aggressively with a cloth. Try it on a scrap piece. I was surprised how good it worked.

Great video. Side note, I always cringe when people want to cover their hard wood floors. 😬 covering 5$ a square foot with 2.50$ a square foot.

AEJ, its soooo much easier that you could imagine. I was quite intimidated as well when i tackled my first floor install. That was in the kitchen of my old home about 10 to 12 years ago. Since then i have installed approx 150 more of them on my own. I was a tech tard and CZcams was still a baby back then so i made soooo many little mistakes on my 1st two or three installs. That leads me to my best and only advice: The two best choices you can make are simple. 1) Purchase a quality flooring product. Dont skimp on quality because you see the price tag and get "sticker shock" and assume the cheap stuff will "do the trick". Not only do you get what you pay for but the higher quality options are often times easier to work with. 2) IF you hit a snag, get into a pinch, get frustrated and you're flat out ready to give up...DONT...Just hop on CZcams and this fella will likely have the video on the topic thats holding you up. AGAIN pal, its easier than it appears and you CAN do it! Best of luck and God bless ya brother :-)

I have this same exact plank to lay this weekend. I've only done it one other time. This guy has a rental and he's letting me start in a sm bedroom & if that works, he'll keep paying me to do a couple rooms that are 300+sq ft.
Nice tips. I think I'll be making momney.
