I felt totally overwhelmed when I first charged up the battery and went through all the settings, focus options went way over my head. This video is now my photography bible. Thanks for taking the time to walk us through all the options.
Wonderful overview… Just upgraded from a Z5 to a z6ii and really appreciate hearing how you’ve set yours up. Thanks, Hudson.
Just upgraded to the Z7ii w/ a brand new z28-70 2.8 lens, from a d750 & 500. This has been extremely helpful! Well paced "chapters" with clearly detailed breakdowns. Looking forward to jumping into some shooting next week armed with my custom user settings & quick access controls. Much appreciated.
One of the best how-to videos I've seen. The index on the bottom is so useful. Thanks for a great lesson!
Helps tremendously. Just upgraded to z7ii from...an 801. Major changes! Thanks for this. Your indexing of topics x time particularly appreciated, btw - really pragmatic for those who want to exploit their long-awaited upgrade to the max.
Once I get past these ABCs, I’ll work through the rest of your videos.
Straight ahead!
Outstanding video and information as always. Just got my “unicorn” the Z7ii. Finally Made the upgrade to mirrorless and full frame from the D7500. So far the camera does not disappoint. Can’t wait to do some hi res panoramics and Astro with this.
Thanks for always making great detailed and user friendly videos.
Just got my Z6 II, thanks for all the time you put into making this video. It was a great help.
Dude, that was a great video! I'm switching from D750's to the Z6II and this was exactly what I needed to see how things are different in the menu system, but you pointed out so many good things to try. Thank you for taking the time to make this video! I know they aren't easy, but it was exactly what I needed to see. thanks!
That makes my morning to hear Joe. Thanks.
Wow the table of contents is the cherry on top. Thanks so much!
What an excellent video. I am a long-time Nikon DSLR user, and your video was extremely helpful to me in making the jump to Nikon mirrorless. Many thanks.
I'd of been lost for months without this video. Tons of info. Way back as a kid early in the 80's i learned the photo basics on an Olympus XA. Great little camera. 85 when I moved on to an FM. Lugged that thing all over shooting BW stills. So it's been a while and I just bought a Z6II. All these new tools and setting are pretty intimidating. Took me a few sessions to get through all of this and will likely take a couple more to get camera all good. Thanks so much.
Thank you so much for the Z7ii setup video. I already have your four videos on Z9 setup. You are extremely knowledgeable, pleasant, and motivational!
Thank you, again.
Appreciatively,
WALT
Hands down the best video on the net for new Z7ii users. Just got mine, read the tiny manual that came with it (ha!), a thick book I bought on Amazon, and then found this video. Takes you through the things that are important. Great job and thank you so much! YOU ROCK!!
Thank you for taking your time to do this and explaining it with simplicity.
Awesome video! It’s the most thorough and detailed as I have ever seen. Great stuff! Thanks.
Glad I found your channel, I just received my new Z7 II yesterday and there was not much out there on really setting up the camera and explaning why. I sold my D 810 to set up to mirrorless, but still have my D 850. Both the Z7 II and D 850 make for a great pair. Thank you for explaning your set up, it sure did help. It is a learning curve going to the mirrorless cameras.
I've spent the last 2 days setting up and understanding my new Z6II. Extremely helpful, I couldn't have done it without your help.
Thanks!
That makes my day Tony! Thanks for the feedback.
Thank you very much Hudson for this set-up. I followed them for my Z6 II and Z7 II. Just got the two cameras yesterday, and I am happy to upgrade+ from my Z6. I sold my old Z6 and I hope it will end up with a happy new owner. The camera's been very good with me on adventures here and abroad and I'm looking forward to new memories with Z6 II and Z7 II. Ricci announced and tested the firmware update 1.10 and based from his tests, the autofocus got further improvements. I am even more stoke with these cameras, and very happy I made the dive into the Z-system. Cheers!
WOW!! I have been reviewing and researching the Nikon Z7ii (vs Canon R7) for a month now, and THIS video with you has been a game changer. Incredibly methodical, organized and well paced! Thank you. It'll take some time to learn and be comfortable with this camera, especially coming from a D80! But your video has given me the confidence to revisit your presentation and go step by step. THANK YOU!
Amazing video, thank you for having spent the time to create this. I got my Z7ii in hand yesterday, thanks to your video I was ready to hit the ground running.
Thank you so much for demonstrating the function for what happens when you tap the touchscreen! I have been looking for that for days! Brilliant video, thank you so much
Kudos! SIR. Ordered Z6ii and was waiting eagerly for this..Thank you!
Thank you for the tutorial it was a wonderful help. This is my first mirrorless moving from a DSLR. Very excited about the new learning curves
After switching from the Z6 to the Z6 II, I thought I knew the camera fairly well. But I must admit I still learned a few points watching your video. Thank you!
Thank you! I own a Z7, and have ordered a Z6 II, so this is great food for thought, on the setup.
I have to tell you, there is so much valuable information in your CZcams video, I'll need to watch this at least 3-4 times. The details are so important, the only way to follow you is to stop the video, have the camera with you, then make the suggested changes. Thank you for all your details. Great stuff, just have to recall how to use it all.
Coming from a Sony A7Riii, the simplicity, graphic design, clarity and usability of the Nikon menus and short cut menu is quite mindblowing (I know Sony has now updated the menus, long overdue). One other thing that people don't mention about the Nikon which I simply love is the sound of the shutter release - such a wonderfully quiet, soft snick sound. I love it.
The build quality and weather dealing are in another league too. I've tested both and can attest.
Welcome to the Nikon family...
I ha e a Sony a7riii also , just got the Nikon z7ii two days ago and there is so much to love about this camera. Can't wait for the weekend to get out and shoot.🤓.
I’m between the Sony and the Nikon, can you offer some advice?
I agree! I found Sony to be a complicated mess!
Hudson this is exactly the assistance I needed as my used Z7 arrived today. I’m converting from Fuji. I’m only a hobby landscape and flower photographer but rationalised the Z7 over the Z6 for the huge crop factor to save on buying many lenses. I’ve made copious notes from your video and already changed many settings with your excellent help. I couldn’t have done all this nearly so quickly, if ever, from the 240 page user’s manual! I thought you should know that your video continues to help others far away nearly 2 years on. Many thanks and best wishes from 🏴 England.
Thank you for an excellent explanation! Already feel well versed with so many things. I just upgraded from a D700 to Z7 ii. Thank you!
Finally got to the end, indeed a great amount of time you've devoted, Hudson! Tomorrow my Z50 arrives, so another can to open and hopefully enjoy...but from what I've read from you and others, it'll be a great compliment to the Z's that I already own (gonna stay with my Z7, you've opened my eyes a bit to the focus situations with the Z6II, and the Z50 for what it does). Many thanks, looking forward to your take on upcoming releases!
Hey Hudson, got to a good place to test your focus settings (esp. subject tracking with the F2 button) on my Z6II...worked well, considering I'm a D5/9-point guy forever! I was shooting surfing and found myself constantly pushing the release button halfway just to keep the camera up and running...which also worked well. Don't think I'm selling my D5 quite yet, but it may just stay in the bag...until I REALLY need it, lol...
Hudson again a great walk through on the options at 83 its my bedtime read when I want to change anything as the memory is not at its best! appreciate the time you spend keeping us going.
Loving your other videos.
Hudson, Thanks so much for making this video. I just got my new z7ii and I found this video VERY helpful in getting up to speed quickly!
Thanks so much for this video. Just got my Z6 ii a few days ago. This will prove quite helpful.
Great video- really appreciate the menu walkthroughs. Also at 45:00 mark where you are selecting the area focus mode (or any menus), if you click the desired mode twice it will save instead of having to press the ok button every time- little time saver!
Wow! Great video! Just got my Z7 ii today and this has helped tremendously. Will watch a few more times. Have upgraded from the D750. Thanks for this video! Very helpful!
Thank you so much. This was incredibly helpful for someone moving from Canon 5D Mark II to Nikon Mirrorless!!!!!
Hudson, I’ve just gone mirrorless and got a z7ll. I’ve a lot to learn, being a manual focus rangefinder sort of a guy. I cannot tell you how helpful this video is! Thank you so much.
Thanks for that. You're so welcome.
Saving this video to favourites, very informative and love the linked table of contents. Your voice is well suited to this type of video too....A1
This video was so helpful. Thank you so much for explaining everything in detail. Now to practice practice practice! :)
Thanks so much for this very important information about the mirrorless camera. I have watched it a couple of times now, since I am not a professional photographer. I have loved photography for 30+ years and had multiple Nikon cameras as a hobbyist photographer. I have a very active 2 year old granddaughter and was trying to photograph her and was having trouble. Going back to this video, has reminded me, how different the mirrorless is from the DSLR. Thanks again for all your videos and helping me get better memories of my family.
I have just purchased a used Z6 2 - this video made setting up the camera so easy - thanks for all your help
Thanks for this video. It was a great help to me for setting up my new Z6 II.
I've been shooting Nikon for 35+ yrs...My D850 took a spill (Nikon says not worth repairing...sad day as it has been a DREAM body) and now it gives me an opportunity to move to mirrorless....glad I found your channel. This video helps a lot as a lot has changed and I need to learn the new modes....as I am a creature of habit :-). Thank you
Great instruction video - I took screen shots with my phone of menus, controls , i menu, U1,2,3 etc and then printed them out for reference.
I've deleted every Nikon Z6 II video I saved trying to learn how to set this camera up (Newbie), but your video takes the wool off of my eyes and I've learned a lot.....thank you!!
Great video, you really understand your camera and your craft! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you! This was very helpful in setting up my new camera.
I just started setting up my Z7ii and so glad I found this video! THANK YOU!!!
Excellent video, sir. I have the Z6ii on order, and have basically been looping this video! Also, looks like you do amazing work. Thanks!
Why am I only just finding your channel, great presentations that make sense. Thank you.
Many thanks for this very instructive video! This helped me to setup my first mirrorless camera coming from the DSLR. I used the procedure for a Z5 and fortunately the setup was almost identical. The suggested settings of the user modes helps me a lot to get started with my new camera.
This is an excellent video. Very helpful to me as a new Z7ii user and getting to know my new camera!! Some features I’ve never had before, and this is sooooooooooooooo helpful!
Thank you for this informative video, I just got my Nikon Z7ii and did the setup following this video
Just got the Z6 used a D750 and found it very informative learned many things will need to watch a few times to take it al in. Thank you
Very informative, thanks. Learned a lot about what the camera can do!
Great video!! Thank you! I'm finally not overwhelmed by this camera..!
Thank you very much for this video. It's really helped me understand many features of my Z6 II that I previously ignored.
Very good video. Thanks for the help. Just switched from D850 to Z7 II - needed this.
Thanks a ton. GREAT GREAT VIDEO. Helped me do all the setting on the z7ii.
Thank you so much for this. I just switched to Nikon's mirrorless System (z6ii) from Pentax and honestly, I was a bit overwhelmed by all the new stuff. Following your advice in this video step by step really helped to calm me down. I still feel that the Pentax bodies just fit like gloves to my hand and the Nikon still feels strange, a little too square-edged, but the menus are great, now that I know them thanks to you. And the lenses are superb, as well, as far as I can tell by now. So, thank you so much for this calm and pleasant guide. I am now pretty sure to stick with my decision for Nikon, even though I am very curious about the new Pentax k-3 iii. You can't have it all (at least I can't), but I think the z6ii has most of what I want in a camera. Thank you again for this and for many other great videos! Greetings from Denmark - stay safe!
Thanks man, Coming from nikon D7200 to the z7ii was daunting to say the least. got er down after a few visits to this video. awesome job.
Wow, great instructional video. Thank you for that time spent on this.
I really appreciate that. It did take a bit of time. :)
great video, just bought the z6ii this was very helpful...Thank You Hudson.
Excellent settings run through. Just switched over from canon and get my z6ii tomorrow. Super helpful videos.
Some good info! I retired a little over 2 years ago and bought a D7200 and 3 lenses to learn on, and to see if I actually was interested enough to really pursue photography. I've found that I really like it and want to get really good at it. So now it's getting time to step up and get some really good equipment. I'm soaking all this info up like a sponge so whenever I do get some good equipment I'll be ready to go with it! Hopefully in the next 4 or 5 months.
Thank you. I’m about to buy a Z7ii and this is really timely.
You are the best.. Thank you so much, you have no idea, I had Z6 II for a year and after this video, it was like real unboxing. Thanks again
Thanks for the great info on the Nikon Z6ii really enjoyed it and cant wait to get into my new mirrorless camera! Long time Nikon shooter but first mirrorless .
This is a FANTASTIC video! Thank you SOO much for this. My apologies for the 22k views I've put on this in the last 14 hours!!
Awwww, made me smile this morning. :)
Super-helpful and informative. Thanks! Great video.
Thanks! Just bought my z6 II! And this was very, very helpful! Amazing!
Thank you so much for the set up options. Very informative
Truly appreciate your information, Hudson!
I did it, I pushed the button and finally made my choice on upgrades to my camera and lenses. Chose the Nikon Z7ii together with the Nikkor z 24-120 f/4 s and the NIKKOR Z MC 50mm f/2.8. Once I finish paying for those over this year, then I will add the NIKKOR Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR S and possibly the NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S. I’m so incredibly excited. Matt, your valuable input with your reviews and comparisons were so important in my decision making. this is the first major upgrade I’ve made in more than 20 years, and it is most definitely a major upgrade going from a D5000 to full frame and Mirrorless with top quality glass (a first for me).
Hello Hudson Henry Photography! I'm breezing through and stopped in to see your settings preferences. A classic example of someone like me, who has become set in his "settings", for kicks I watched and you've given me some new paths to follow down that (what can my camera do) trail. Thank YOU! Unexpected new tools that I was just ignoring. Wishing you all the best in image making.
Thanks for the feedback Frederick! You too.
Thank you, this is such a helpful video plus you explain everything so clearly! :-)
Super helpful video as I enter into the Nikon Z6 II world.
Thank you for your video. Well done! It helps alot. It is such a great CZcams video. Keep going. Thanks and cheers from Switzerland.
Thanks man, this was helpful. Learned some stuff. New Z6II owner here, I used to shoot Nikon DSLR for years so I'm familiar with some stuff but this is my first experience with a Nikon mirrorless system and there are def some settings I'm like huh haha.
Found your video by accident, waiting for the Z6II Movie Kit to come into stock in the UK as my new main bit of kit to replace D4, D4s and Sony FDR-AX1. I have been reading the Nikon manual on line but found your video really helpful and will return to view it when the camera arrives. So looking forward to hooking up the Atomos Ninja V to it and shooting some ProRes raw video. I hit the subscribe and looking forward to seeing more videos, thanks again.
Just bought Z7ii and this video (YOU) are so helpful to a newbie!! I believe I’ll watch it many times, and I appreciate your review of the auto focusing without talking smack about it being a limitation!!!
It's a fantastic camera! Enjoy.
Awesome video, Hudson. Many thanks!
Thanks for this video- learning the z7
Great and helpful video. Thanks for the time and effort. Most appreciated.
New to mirrorless and this was super helpful . Many thanks : )
Thank you! Coming from the D750 and beeing totally new to mirrorless this helped a lot! Greetings from Germany
FANTASTIC! THANK YOU!!! This helped me a ton!!!
Hudson, thanks for the great video. So helpful.
A wealth of information and explanation -best viewed piecemeal. Thank You ...
Thanks for all the information, amazing job!
Thanks for a great video. Interesting to see the different ways to set up your Z. I too have a new 6ii but gad a 7 from the first day available.
Thanks for the FTZ firmware mention. It wasn’t posted when I last checked. Had my Z6ii for a day or two, then sent it off for the ProRes RAW upgrade. BTW, I did see the menu setting for saving the lens focus position - definitely nice to have that “fixed”
This video was super helpful THANK YOU!
Thank you, Hudson! Outstanding information! Can't wait to get my hands on one of these cameras!
I had been planning to upgrade to full frame with a D850, but maybe the Z7ii would do the trick. What are your thoughts? (Shooting mostly portraiture, landscapes, with some action photography.)
@@Gina_Michel The D850 is an outstanding camera - one of the best NIkon has ever produced. Especially now with the recent price reduction. It is the ideal camera for your type of photography ( I shoot mostly landscapes and some action photography. The only issue for me has been the weight. It can get pretty heavy with a the Pro lenses and if you add the MB-D18 grip that will add to heft.
I own the D850 and love it, but I just got a Z7II and I am hoping it will be somewhat lighter , especially for travel. As it stands right now, I am undecided as to whether or not I will sell my D850. I have recently sold some of my F lenses and used the proceeds to buy new Z lenses. So time will tell as to whether or not I sell the D850 and the MB-D18 grip. But for now I will keep both the D850 and Z7II.
Hope this helps!
Cool! Thanks for sharing this!
Thank You for such a great and informative video.
Still getting used to it after many years away from Nikon but a big thank you for the video 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video Hudson, very useful.
Very good video. Thanks it has helped me tremendously to do an initial set up of my Z7 ii.
Glad it helped!
Best video on setting up the camera, thanks.
