If you didn't know recently I released my latest effect - The Quantum Deck. This has been a worldwide hit breaking records all over the world. On a recent Facebook Live for Luke Dancy's new company he slammed The Quantum Deck as a product, slammed the trailer of the Quantum Deck and called my own character into question.
I obviously disagree with the points that Luke made but especially about the trailer being dishonest. I welcome all feedback as long as it is based on fact. However, lying to people to make a point is not something I am willing to let go.
So on this special one off Magic Stuff we Fact Check the Quantum Deck and talk about Luke's video and why it is a total fabrication.

Craig one thing I take from this video is the pure passion you put into this product. I honestly cannot believe the $40 price tag was being questioned with a 5 hour tutorial. That’s just wrong and shouldn’t have been said. Great video Craig. Loved the live performances thanks for gifting these to us fans!
I've been doing close up magic for over 50 years. I couldn't give a blue fuck what magicians think about a certain trick! It's for me to perform, I'll make that judgement for myself. Thank you, Craig, for addressing this bullshit by Dancy and whoever the other guy is. I ordered the Quantum Deck from Penguin shortly after you released it. Even not having the deck yet, and becoming aware of a couple of restrictions, I really don't know what the hell the issue is. If a magi can't figure out a way to get around little things like needing another deck or forcing a person to give you a good number to work with, perhaps they should re-examine their proficiency in magic. I come to your site for this reason alone, I do feel that you are one of a few or maybe the ONLY one who gives a shit about magicians releasing quality magic and routines. Thanks!
The fact that I need to nag you constantly to send me an invoice so I can pay you should tell everyone how money is certainly not your motivation. It’s the love of sharing magic. @@baltazarrecord3687 The 5 hours of video instructions give you multiple options for how to perform the trick if they name a number less than 11 or more than 31, and the moves involved are not hard. The performance videos also show him performing the trick for a couple of women at a bar who named 47, and they were totally fooled and amazed and delighted. Get a clue.
That live performance is all I need to see. Looks practically bomb proof. I don't do pre-orders, but as soon the hype has died down and this is on general release I'll be picking one up. Disappointed in Luke, I met him and spoke to him for a bit at the last Blackpool convention and he came across as a nice guy not sure what the agenda is here, but it's disappointing. Keep up the good work big chief.

The Ultimate Marked Deck on Penguin is $40, the WMS Gaff Deck is $40 American... Out of Sight and Trojan Deck by Joshua Jay are both $74... none of these decks can be examined by magicians. The price is right for this kind of thing (and if someone doesn't want to pay this much, they don't have to buy it). Moreover, I may have a limited imagination, but I thought of a number of ways you might do the trick using some standard type gaffed decks and still couldn't reverse engineer how you do it--the price is really for the intellectual property anyway, and you give a thorough, well thought out tutorial.

I use an invisible deck regularly, the photo deck, a svengali, the travelling cards from Visible, and a few more. Never in my 43 years as a pro has anybody ever asked to examine a deck. This examining thing is just a magician thing.
I think the issue is Craig telling Wilbur he could hand him the deck right now which gives the impression the deck is completely examineible. No biggie, Craig should just delete that bit from the trailer

@@elopers6424 Hi Carlo, in Craigs Visible (the invisible deck project) there is a routine where 3 selected cards vanish from the deck having been placed face up and travel face down into 10 face-up cards that a spectator has had their hand covering. As a side note, I just plasti dip spray the 6 cards used then the rest of the deck are normal. The effect on the audience is really amazing and in my opinion, I would get Visible just for this trick alone.

It honestly sounds like he did that segment based on things he heard from other people. I dont believe he watched the tutorial. If he did maybe the first 15-20 minutes of it. He really sounds like someone who just decided to accept things people told him about quantum
Your trailer could have literally just been the Adam Wilber performance and that was it. I didn’t watch the rest of the trailer before buying the deck. I went back after I was hooked from the performance to watch the rest of it.
Nothing is as honest as a full, truly uncut performance of the thing you’re selling. And it’s rare to see products come out with full, uncut performances because creators fear magicians with enough knowledge will figure it out and choose not to buy it if they can replicate it. So I commend you for being a straight shooter.
I have to wait for the second run. What amazes me is the price. The amount of time we will get in instruction is worth more in my opinion. 10-15 bucks for 20-30 minutes if the trick is great is totally worth it. We are getting an in depth tutorial that goes much much further than the average price for a SINGLE trick. Now.. you are teaching multiple tricks using a deck and a blank deck could cost 2-3 dollars, fine. A gimmick can cost a lot.. it depends on the work put in and I cannot put a price on what I do not know what the gimmick is.. I have ideas, but that's just speculation. Again..I'll say it.. this Quantum deck is a steal for the hit factor amongst friends, family or those of us that do gigs. Good stuff and I wish you continued success with the Quantum deck!!👍🤓👍

The length and quality of instructional videos being a total of approx. 5 hrs is in itself well worth the price tag. Any specialized deck with a 30 min instructional usually goes for $40. Craig Petty's teaching is always A1 quality; I even purchased Visible where Craig goes into excellent thorough teaching covering everything. Magicians have to start supporting each other instead of providing destructive criticism (unless you go by the name of Eggink and create low quality products and sell them for an outrageous price). It's simple: if magicians think there is something that the product can improve on, then they can reach out to the creator and let them know about it instead of putting the product down. Ffs, it's only $40. I would have paid $60 +
P.S. I ordered this a bit late - upon waiting for my order to arrive come spring time, I have thoroughly enjoyed the instructional videos thus far.

Ruling true magic out, I think that I have a pretty decent idea how I would make this work (and of course it is easier to back engineer a possible method than coming up with the original idea, which think is brilliant and well thought through). But even if my thinking was the same as Craig‘s - 40 bucks appears to be a steal for the whole project you are getting from Craig.
This trick is HANDS DOWN the best trick I have seen in last year. Thanks for that. HOWEWER, I have just watched trailer again and I have to say, that there is something about their statement - and it is more psychological than fact based. When you talk about 100 % examinable thing, that you would bet your life to this trick to fool smartest people in the world and about honest trailer above others, than people will try to find any disonest in that - pure psychology..And bet your life for this principle well known to not even smartest people in magic industry? That feels like lost bet and lost life in stakes right after person touch the deck.. They talk about magicians, because they saw them in trailer so this could feel, like it is something else than it is - magicians would understant immediately. And that is probably their problem with trailer - psychology.. Cut, from trailer, sentense about honest trailer and there will be no beef - even if there is no move in trailer out of the range, but you have to do it, so it is not every single time the same as in trailer = without special move and cuting.. Still, salut for this video, you are the MAN! Thanks again..

I pre-ordered The Quantum Deck because the trailer blew me away and because it was Craig Petty’s trick and trailer, so I knew it was honest and that the trick is “fit for purpose.” Craig, I’ve been doing magic for 70 years, and you’ve helped me learn. Thanks. And Ryland is lots of fun and really sharp. His performances are fun and charming, and the relationship between you two is classic. Thanks, and I’ll keep watching. Worley the Wizard.
I have to admit, I wasn't overly fond of the hype. The final video alone was more than enough to sell the product. Unlike a lot of releases coming out recently, I really don't think it needed several teaser trailers and pre-sales. But perhaps I've just developed disdain for them because I know they are normally used to sell substandard crap (Note: I'm not saying the Quantum Deck is substandard crap, I'm talking about the same sales methods used before anybody thinks I'm saying something I'm not). I think the unneeded hype just opened the doors to people wanting an easy attack vector.
Let me start by saying this is the best "clapback" response to lies being put out period! Now, I am just as shocked as you Craig, that Luke and Mike would do this! I haven't watched Luke in about 3 years (no particular reason) but back when I did my impression of him was a genuine person that cared about magic. I think I only seen one interview of Mike but he seemed genuine as well. I seriously can't believe they would blatantly lie. I was lucky enough to pre order Quantum from penguin and cannot wait to get my hands on it.
You know, nowadays we are lucky to get even one live performance of a product (something I truly enjoy watching) so you providing so many is just phenomenal and should be trend setting!! And what is with "magician fooler" being a thing these days?...I thought magic was to be performed for spectators. So as long as a routine is well structured and can be managed that's what matter most imo. You being as honest and as upfront on a product should be another trend setter. Luke stating the range as a negative is just so dumb...what acaan/caan doesn't have limits?

Ps. I feel you paid your dues on the subject of Red. Anyone still trying to bring that up against you can go jump in a volcano as far as I'm concerned. You shouldn't even address it anymore.
Enjoyed your rebuttal as much as I enjoyed the DVD that accompanied my Quantum Deck. Couldn't agree more. The deck, as you explain, IS examinable even by magicians. Sure, if someone brings a chemistry set or microscope, perhaps they'd catching something given some time, but in my over 60 years in IBM I've not had a magician bring either of those. The price is extremely reasonable. I believe the price of a trick is dependent upon the quality of the effect, and this trick could easily be worth more. The "two deck requirement" argumen is inane. Craig provides multiple EXTRA effects which can be performed by also using a second deck. Two decks are not required for the basic effect. Regarding the "hype," it appears the two critics have never seen any type of advertising. Their position would put a large segment of private enterprise out of business. And finally, the DVD very clearly explains how ANY number can be named. Maybe the critics should complain tha someone picking 1 or 52 doesn't make for a very good trick.
Everybody in here know that you are good and fair about everything you speak about , Dont put your energy on small people that only are jelous that you probably have made the best trick in 2022 . Craig dont waste your energy on people that not means anything for you , put your energy for your next trick and maby you will have the top 2 tricks in 2022
Thanks for clearing this up Craig, because I had actually misjudged HOW this worked, so I wasn't going to buy it, because I thought the gimmick was something else (based on a very famous Joshua Jay trick - you know the one!). But just like your reviews for other products, the most powerful tool is showing an actual performance, especially a real-world one. You've really only made the idea more attractive now. Full marks for showing the full performance.

I had meet up with Craig last night and he requested for me to show him a magic trick his response to my magic was “your card handling is fantastic” and he help give me some solid advice and gave me at least 20 minutes of his time and expertise, this guy loves to help and progress magicians!
Im a house magician for smoke and mirrors and have seen quantum deck live 3 times over its 100% on point with everything he says it is and did fool the shit out of myself and daniel chard,

Hi Craig, I have a Quantum Deck on order at the moment and can't wait for it to arrive. I have been doing magic for friends and family for about 50 years! Yes 50 years! And this one fooled me. I love the effect and I admire everything you do, especially as pretty much every time you review a trick, you demo a real-life performance. This is the best part of your reviews because I have never done magic for magicians, I like to fool the arse off my friends and family so I need to know that the effect will work for laymen. Since Magic TV started, I have been a subscriber and love your TOTALLY honest reviews about all sorts of magic and tricks that are out there at the moment. Long may you continue Craig. PS. Can you do something on rubber band magic before I get too old and my fingers stop working!

I understand both sides of this. I understand how trailers can look deceptive or be taking wrong way out context. In magic how can we be 100% honest with marketing? By just giving away the secrets and we pay if we like it?
I’ll be honest not really into quantum deck (we can’t like them all,) for no reason just not ticking boxes etc. i can appreciate both Craig and Luke’s opinions on this.

Craig you're the man. I always buy 2-3 of effects that I really like-- I have 3 Extractors, 3 Kennedy Boxes, etc etc-- I will be buying 3 more Quantum Decks!! Already have one on Pe-Order from Penguin-- But will be buying more down the road. Brilliant.
Really nice and accurate Rant! I like the idea of selecting a few people and having them pick a number between 1-10...pretty clever...there's so much u can do with that! I mean if you really wanted to sway them, u could always say, i placed the card somewhere in the middle...it's not at the very beginning or the very end of the deck to give u a hint....probably somewhere between the 10th card and the 40th card.
Comment #3: the best way to sell a product is have it demoed for you. I love seeing a dealer demo for a trick at a convention. Trailers are fucking dumb. Packaging is fucking dumb. Magicians NEED start looking at the effect and the impact and forget the method.
How many incredible tricks are written in books that have zero trailers or hype? How many tricks used to come with written instructions and no packaging? You want a trailer, go to the movie theatre.
Man the number of times Liam Montier used to fool me when he demmed stuff for me in Kaymar magic shop in Upminster....and when I asked to seek me that trick he'd say it's in this book. Ah the good old days
This video is not only hugely entertaining, it is a SIGNIFICANTLY better trailer for the product than the actual trailer! I have a rough idea of the method, and it’s brilliant. The performances here are brilliant. Awesome trick!

I am 67 and over the years I have had dealings with some top chaps (such as talented Nick Einhorn, genius Jerry Sadowitz, lovely Martin MacMillan, superstar Luis de Matos and many others) all of whom spread their knowledge and their love of magic with an open heart, generosity... and above all, honesty. Obviously you are made from the same mould Craig. I love your magic and your passion (for which I thank you) and hope to be following you for many years to come. Is the quantum deck in the post or not in the post, does it exist or doesn't it. Unfortunately for me it's sold out but hoping soon to have it in my hands 👍
The thing is that people are mad that he says it can be examined--it CAN be examined, whether or not someone notices anything funky with the cards is another story. You can examine anything ever made. But it depends on what you are hiding as to whether something is noticed.
I don't own this so can't comment but guessing this is similar to Beyond Stebbins where the deck is technically gaffed but can be handed out for examination in certain situations.
TBH from the trailer I was imagining that there might be some R&S/Svengali or something that allows the trick to work but could still easily be examined. I dont see any problem with this.
@@UncleSkiBum yep, I think even if people can tell what is going on with the deck, the still will have no clue what method is used or how the card was at the placement they named. Well thought out idea by Craig.
@@NumberOne_Suspect indeed I mean I can't even work it out now knowing that the deck is gaffed so if I was able to examine it and noticed the cards were gimmicked (tapered, r&s etc) I still wouldn't know how the trick worked.
I don't get it: white cards are going to easily get dirty in repeated performance. So you have to BUY More Quantums, what?, every 3 mos. at least.

After seeing this I cannot wait to receive my Quantum Deck! I had ordered it a few days ago, but now I am happy I did, without even seeing the deck. I did not see the video Of Luke Dancy "reviewing" it before now. I can NEVER again watch another video he puts up online! I have bought a couple of items he gushed about and they were total crap! I have always felt like Craig gives us a totally honest perspective on anything he reviews! He does not deserve what Luke has said! Thank you Craig for your hard work and insightful views on magic good and bad! Can not wait to receive my Quantum Deck! I am sure it is just as the Trailers show it too be! Unlike most trailers coming out these days.
Craig, you’re a bit defensive… you could’ve been a little more specific in answering the examinable question. In the trailer. If you had to do it over again you might answer that question a little differently to avoid this kerfuffle.

Dude this was awesome! I had already pre-ordered my Quantum deck and I loved this video highlighting the "worst" parts of the trick because you've clearly showed its actually not an issue. You've got it covered. It's pretty awesome to see a creator vehemently defend their product and come out as the undisputed champion. Well done!

I thought Luke was a decent bloke, but he’s got it wrong here - no idea what his agenda could be though. I haven’t ordered the Q Deck yet, but to me this it what real magic looks like!
How many real world performances where the deck is examined do people need? The whole "examined" things is running when youre not been chased anyway
Card tricks have not been something that appeals to me being mainly a kids entertainer. To be honest I have only performed three card tricks in my career stand up monte, visions, and a card to pocket routine. But that live footage has given me an itch to get it now. 😀
They are right though, this is NOT a magician fooler. There aren’t any magicians left who doesn’t own or already know about quantum!

Wow if that's not a rant then I can have one of mine in my house and get away with it cause I can just show her yours. I am learning (just starting out) you get to know who is talking bullshit and who is or I feel is objective and honest. You are my favourite followed by magic orthodoxy and wizard magic review. I can honestly say I have only ever bought off what you mainly and the other two have recommended. To be honest I wouldn't have even given them any air time. Just keep doing what you do Craig cause for me being a newbie I love it, and trust it. Only thing would you try and review tricks that you think pack a punch for us newbies. To help with confidence. Keep it up cause you will always have haters and bullshiters as u know in life in general. P.s I bought the quantum deck.

Craig, let me start by saying that I think the world of you! Since you did the free zoom lecture for us at our St. Louis IBM Ring 1 meeting for free, I have bought everything you have released. This is my way of paying back magicians that support our club. It was a fantastic lecture and I am sorry you had to be up so late. I have not got the Quantum Deck yet, but I will when it is available again.
Now, with this video, you say a few things that you think that Luke is assuming, but did not actually say. I don't care what the trailer says, if it looks cool I am in. By the way, I love to fool magicians. This is why we meet every week. We are always trying to fool each other. Then we help each other with whatever we are working on. This is why magic groups and clubs are so great! I didn't like that Luke used the word liar, but I did see in the trailer that the deck is fully examinable. You did go on way too long on this subject. This video should have taken 5 minutes at the most and you should have moved on. It is obvious that you let it bother you. Deleting Luke's interview is silly too. You should have shown you are the bigger man and moved on. I thought the rants were over.

Sound like the critics are being a bit rough on you..Don't let it bother you, just treat it like a mirage, like it's not there. You even make it clear in the text part of the sales ad, that the spectator really can't name "any" number. How much more honest could you be ?

I received mine a couple of days ago. The way I look at it, I paid $40 for a magic lecture; I learned a new principle built on an old one. This trick pushes magic forward and I don't mind at all supporting the inventor for his time. A win for all.
I think it is a sign of the social media times that people are complaining. One of the best selling and well-touted card tricks of all time is Invisible Deck. I don't hear Murphy's complaining about how it can't be examined by magicians. Does Murphy's not sell this trick? Seems like they should want to. And it's not called hype when it's marketing. Edit: I didn't realize Luke left Murphy's.

Makes you wonder why. I mean you don't just turn around and badmouth a product your former employer sells, unless things didn't end well.
This is the problem with echo chambers you start to believe your own bs. Whilst I don't always agree with Craig's opinions you can't argue the fact that he kills lay people with this material and at the end of day that's what matters.

I agree with everything you said Craig. I haven't bought the trick but I already know BS when I hear it coming from other magicians criticizing tricks that are released it on the market. Luke doesn't know what he's talking about. He doesn't perform for actual audiences and to even say that the deck needs to be examinable in order for it to be worth anything is utterly ridiculous because you're not performing for magicians. You're performing for people in the real world. So why have the audacity to make such a claim about something being dishonest.
I remember during a live Murphy's Magic q&A event on Instagram, I basically called Luke out on encouraging downloadable material and asked him if downloadable material encourages people to steal and increase the chances of thievery even more. And then he basically asked him response, "does Netflix encourage their customers to steal their products?" He deliberately misinterpreted what I meant to suit his particular narrative that downloadable material is okay. Luke is not a very respectable magician. He may say that he's worked with a bunch of other magicians before but he doesn't actually talk to the magicians who he has a problem with. He just trash talks them in front of everyone else. I can't respect anyone who would do such a thing. If you have a problem then go to Craig directly. Otherwise, shut the hell up because you have no right to criticize somebody's trick or advertisement of their trick when you are not a regular performer yourself like Craig is.
I don't think that what Luke said was justifiable, it just seemed spiteful. All I can see is a solid product with the worker in mind.
honestly, this is the channel i come to for reviews of a product when deciding if i am going to buy it or not and...i want a Quantum deck even more now! i mean, this is the perfect advert for it! i dunno if that was their intention, but it worked!

I'll keep this short by saying that although I didn't see the video you're replying to here, I think you quoted and showed enough of it that I can agree with you on this. Their points generally seem to be invalid or irrelevant, and this rebuttal video was worth posting to counter them.
So issue is about the uses of a Force. All magic is a Force. A fair choice is never a fair choice. The job of the magician is to shape the reality of the moment. The Q-deck is a great tool. Thank you for making it available at a reasonable price.

I have bought some stuff that just disheartened my love for magic. I'm no one to review, so I keep it to myself, I've just decided to stop buying products. It hurts when I feel like I've been deceived on a product. This product sounds cool. Maybe later I'll give it a try, from what I hear i might not be able to find it, so that's cool for you sir. I'm just rambling off a recent thing I purchased, not related to your product.

The funny thing is that I also stopped watching that one week show with Luke a long time ago because I got tired of how he conducted his judgements with different people. I pre-order Quantum and I'm sure I won't be dissapointed.
FYI, there is in incredibly positive review of Quantum (first I have seen) by Kaan Akdogan. He answers all the Dancy 'objections' and recommends the trick. It may have helped that Kaan actually has the trick and did a demonstration of it. He applauded the effect as very cool and discussed the limitations of the number that could be guessed but did not see this as a real problem. Craig - you asked why would you want to perform Quantum for magicians? Magicians perform magic for other magicians all the time. What do you think magicians do at magic club meetings? Play soccer? Knit? Cook?
One more thing these guys should give you a very public apology . In life its about what you do that matters not what other people do they have to live with what theyve said you dont. Life will sort it out

I could clearly see that some routines were with one deck and some were with an optional second ,and who hasn't got several forcing decks ?
I've just seen my posts removed because I said a few things critical about ACAAN. that's crazy. Things have gotten out of hand.
I officiated at my stepdaughters wedding (first time doing that), and did magic afterwards (first time performing at an event for me too). I hadn't practiced my new Quantum deck hardly at all, and didn't plan to perform it, but it was in my bag. I did another trick with some blank cards, and the father of the bride said he'd never seen blank cards before. So I said "Ahh, then I should show you this". I performed Quantum for him and the rest of the table. They loved it, it's a wonderful trick and anybody complaining about 40 dollars for a truly novel combination of some classic magic principles that's super easy to perform even for a novice like me, baffling to audiences, and comes with hours of wonderful training and multiple ideas for how to use the deck... Well they just have "too much free time". I'm very happy that I bought the Quantum Deck and these guys should find something better to do than rag on other people's quality creations.
As for "needing another deck", I think that guy's just insane. Even if you want to do the two deck options shown in the training - which I didn't bother with at the wedding - 1) You can get a normal deck of cards at shops all over for just a few dollars, or order them online. 2) What fucking magician doesn't already have a normal deck of cards on hand, or more likely a bunch of them? It's not like it needs a specialty gimmicked deck, a pair of pliers, and a scuba tank. It just needs a fucking deck of cards. I had at least eight decks with me at the wedding if I'd wanted to lead into the routine with a force or something. Sheesh.
