Just pay the extra for a 6600 or 6600xt unless your power supply won't be able to handle it. It will give you a way more enjoyable experience.
Or going for 5600xt/5700 if you are budget constrained
I'd argue to just save for a 3060/ti, I've never been a fan of amd driver support
@@meowmageddon amd drivers are fine, never had a problem with em on multiple cards. skipped 5000 series tho
@@meowmageddon no, 3060 is way more expensive

Nice job on this video. Thank you for sharing.
Most grateful for the reviews! Planning to get one of these this week.

LOVE comparisons...keep them coming!!! Very interesting...I THINK that there is an 8GB RX 6500xt...but hard to find, and not sure how your special 5500 XT will be available? kindof a one-off... but a good heads up while available
Yea there is a 8gb 6500 xt
Thanks just the video people needed
Just scored an RX 5700 on ebay for US $135 shipped ($180 CAD for me) The sell-off is heating up
Good find! Hope you get the heat issues fixed
Nice! Paid $150 last month for my nephew. Had to redo the thermal pad/paste hack job of the previous owner though.
@@destineal Mine gets here in a few days. It looks good in photos, but I'll probably open it up anyway
I got one 2 months ago and did that one bios mod to get the XT's power limits/clock speed. The 5000 series is very underrated due to the issues they had at launch.
@@XxGorillaGodxX Is it difficult to do the mod? How is stability/heat afterward? The model I bought only has dual fans
Hey guys, great video. One thing I did not hear you mention was the Smart Access Memory mode for AMD GPUs and CPUs. Did you have this enabled? If not, can you rerun some tests and see if it has an affect? Thanks! Keep up the good work!
Does it make a difference? I always wondered never see videos about it
@@boomshaka918 Depends on the game and GPU (to a degree). Sometimes slightly worse, but usually at least a little better performance.

I just got an rx5500 xt for $80 on eBay before shipping. Came out to $100 total. Building the pc this week
Can you guys add the vram usage from afterburner? I know it was said that the 8gb does obviously make a difference but it would be nice to see how much each card is actually using per game. Cheers!
5:32 so why did you not show the VRAM usage in the Afterburner overlay? That might have helped to show whether you're over the framebuffer (and thus doing PCIe transfers) or not.
They definitely are. Other people tested 6500XT . This is definitely 1080p med card in PS5 era . In some games you could run 1080p med/high mix, but you are getting near VRAM limit and dreaded 4 PCIe lanes-
I have the regular 5500 that came in a pavilion a i bought, it has 3 lanes, and works pretty well
the 5500 oem is a full 8 lane pcie 4.0 card. the 6500 xt is a 4 lane 4.0 card
3 lanes???
About frigging time you did this, I have been on you for over 6 months as you do all the low end PC and budget PC and now finally you find something to go against the 6500xt. One thing you missed is POWER DRAW!!!! I have this card on a HP pre-built with a 185watt PSU, it runs full tilt. Do that with the 5500. The only reason this card even needs a plug is to take care of the second fan. The 6500xt is a hidden jewel as far as I can see but, I do not stream from it as I use it for gaming in my living room on my TV so I do not have to sit in my dungeon lol.
I got this build for next to nothing as it is a used HP TP01-2066 I got for $100 with 8gig of ram and a 256gig nvme, it had originally had a 5000 series CPU so I dropped a used 5600g in it for $95 got another 8gig on FB market for $20 and tried the 6500xt because it should work and wow did it. This thing cost me around $400 so that is why I have been harping about this and I am glad you finally show it running. BTW this card was around $250 during the shortage and was the only card you could get your hands on and now used it costs nothing to get ahold of. I have seen these selling as low as $40 and they are worth every penny.
Hells yeah
I got gifted an $100 gift card for amazon and picked up a 5500, so far it’s treating me well:) it was the best value at the time on amazon for sure, however idk about now. W vid
this is making me want to get a better gpu right now, cause im still running my old 2gb gpu (paid like 120$ for a new one) even though im not a heavy gamer but watching all these videos about buying pretty strong used gpus for 100-200$ is surprising
you can get a 1080 ti for around $200 usd.
The rx 6600 is amazing for around $200
When it first came out I got a 6500xt for $199 and used it to replace the gtx950 2gb he was using with an older i7-3770. It was a massive upgrade from the 950 and all his games work so he’s pretty happy with it.
The landscape has changed a bit and I would not recommend a 4gb gpu. New games really want more vram if you want to play at medium - high settings and with the crippled memory bus system of the 6500xt that is a hard stop once you hit that 4gb performance falls off a cliff. Its a great gpu until it isn’t :)
The 5500xt in this video is pretty good at $130. If you can at all manage it’s pretty easy to find a used 6600 for 175-200 so I would try for that if I didn’t already own one.
You can get a brand new RX 6600 from Aliexpress for around 200USD. Crazy performance for such small price 😁
You can never go wrong with a 3060/6600/6650XT used or brand new on sale really.
let’s go toasty bro’s
I bought the 6500xt during the gpu shortage and it was a steal for that time, it was just 5€ more than the gtx 1650. There was no point in buying the 1660s since the rx 6500xt was more powerful and cheaper. The only card that was better at that time was rtx 3050 and it was 120€ more than the rx 6500xt. I could just go to the used market but back then I was scared of getting scammed. Now I look back and cry because I could have afforded the arc a770 by now(wich is a huge beast in 1440p gaming since the drivers are close to complete)
Do you try the aliexpress rx 6600m?? some youtubers say that beat an rtx 3060 and almost the same that the rx 6600 of pc for less or the same that an rx 6400
Hey toasty bros I love watching you guys videos and I got a pc it was a mtg-my technology geeks it has a intel 530 graphics card 8gb single channel ram and a i3-6100 do I upgrade or buy something better my favorite game is gta 5 but it can’t run it
I have a 6500xt and it honestly works pretty well with my i3 10th gen. Great budget pc build in my opinion
good for you but those with an Older i3 or i5 9th gen or below which is normally paired with a low end GPU like that would have lost 20% of it's performance on average since they don't support PCI-E gen 4 which the 6500XT needs in order to reach it's maximum performance.
@@silvereyes2146 tbh it doesnt really matter, having gen 4 doesnt have a major impact on gaming its like a little fps boost
@@silvereyes2146 replied to the wrong person
Ive done a build with these 2 before. People hated it for the pcie 4 lanes however it's still perfectly fine with a 10100. Kinda very underrated GPU imo
@@elekrobeelekrobe2023 it matters when there are only 4 PCI lanes
For me it's a no brainer... If I'm upgrading at this budget there's a good chance I'll have a gen3 based system. Therefore, 5500 it is! My current desktop system is a 4th gen i5 4430 with 8gb ram. Throw in a 5th gen i7 and double 9r triple the ram, throw in a 5500xt, and you have yourself a decent little gaming system that'll last for a little while
Could u all do a video on my pc specs and how I can make it better it has a i3 6100 I believe processor and 8gb ram and 1050ti gpu I need help lots of stuttering and fps is not good like max 30 fps then drops to 9
I just did a new build for my personal rig I got an i7 13700f and a evga rtx 3080 ultra ftw3 hybrid . I got everything new apart from my psu I took out of my old system . I decided to give my older pc to my daughter but having spent all my money on my new pc I was limited for funds .
It was a nice system i5 10600k 32gb ram and I had a palit jetstream gtx 1080 ti but it broke . I bought this exact 5500xt and it no 1080ti or 3080 but for the price I don't think it can be beat unless you get lucky on ebay for a 1070 or somthing
is a 400W psu enough for a 5500XT?
I know you do a bunch of them but can you do a $100 dell optiplex MT build
5700 XT is 130-150 dollars on ebay
I have a older rx570 4gb card I got years ago, would buying one of these cards be good upgrade?
Depends on cpu, BUT yes, go for it
It's not really worth it. Save for an RX 6600 or similar to see a performance jump worthy of the cost and time changing the card out.
rx 580 8gb 2048sp is almost identically the same on fps/performance with the 6500xt but IMO rx580 still is a lot smoother gameplay than a glitching/lagging 6500xt, added bonus rx580 2048sp only cost like $60 - $80
and rx5500xt for $100 is also a great buy comparing it to rx 580 2048sp it has 5 - 15 more fps than the rx 580 2048sp but if you really are on a tight budget rx580 is a really solid choice 60+fps high/ultra in most games.
Yeah but the 580 is ancient and in the next year will likely have driver support discontinued. So if you're looking for a GPU that you're gonna keep for at least 3+ years, then it's not really a good option.
Looks like the Rainbow Six Siege benchmark had some weirdness going on with the CPU during the benchmark on the 5500XT. It dropped down to less than half clock speed twice during the clip shown for several seconds each time.
RX580 8GB for $80 >>>
If we're going off of AliExpress pricing, you can get one of those 5500XTs for $100 even which is an objectively better deal because it is an RDNA card so driver support will be better for longer, it's more effecient, and gets even better performance if you have access to PCIE 4.0 and SAM. If you combine that with the fact that the $80 "RX 580s" on AliExpress are actually cut down models, the choice (at those prices at least) is clear.
I WILL say though that those RX 580 2048SP cards are still great buys, even if they come in second place for value now. I have a JeiShuo model that I bought and it has been running great. You really can't go wrong with either, but to compare an AliExpress RX 580 2048sp to an Amazon (and thus, marked up) RX 5500XT is an unfair comparison.
@@jmasta111 No I was talking about an ebay one. Which is not a cutdown version making your entire essay useless lmao
Would you guys reccommed one of these 5500xT or a used 1660super for around 179 USD?
I'M from latin america so these are my most affordable options (the 1660 is local price)
Or is there a better option around the price in amazon?
You're better off getting a brand new RX 6600M from aliexpress for 200 USD. It will perform equal, close or better than an RTX 3060 depending on the title.
If you don't get the 6600m the person above me suggested, you'd be better off with the 1660 Super, since it performs closer to a 5600 XT than a 5500 XT
Can y’all do a dell optiplex 720 upgrades in 2023
I've built a couple 5500 systems for my nephews. They handle mincraft no problem
will a 500w power supply work with the 6500xt?
Easily, depends on your CPU, drives, PCIE addons though.
Toasty bros approved haha
Nice to know
Can i get help finding a low profile gpu under 50 dollars
They really should have released a 6550xt that had more pcie lanes and (and faster) memory
In march, I went RX 6650XT at £240.... and... My PSU failed. Corsair VS550... Bronze 80+ etc.... Just crap luck I guess.... And today, the sound gave out... So I'm having a rockin' time. Gonna have an early night and try again tomorrow. The PC was working fine this morning. And Lunch time.... changed its mind at about 17:00.... Luckily I have a couple of decent backups. My old system is a 1050Ti 4GB... which is rated at about 2700-3200, I think. and the 6650? About 17500ish. So.... a big improvement. Anyway, my system failed.....
You can get a 6500 xt in a 8gb sapphire pulse edition is available now 👍 I don't know if it is worth it but I see it is available in some countries 👀
6500XT would be god enough for casual gamer that is using his PC mostly for other things, has PCIe 4.0 board and wants really new card (unlike 5500xt refurbished ) . It would run newer games at 1080p med , sometimes 1080p med-high and that is about it.
Is this 5500xt worth it?
They are like 130-150 USD it looks like. I will stick to my 6 gig Asus Turbo GTX 1060 which was only like 87 USD after tax.
Where did you get that deal?
@Robert Merritt eBay. They listed for 100 usd plus 26 for shipping. Then I offered 50, then they countered for a bit above that, and I accepted.
It depends on the brand you buy, like msi has a OC MECH 2x, which is what I have, it plays all of my games on high/max settings at 60hz, 1080p. The games I have are, Enlisted at max settings, made in 2020, and war thunder made in 2012 (which received multiple graphics updates) at maximum settings, and beamng at medium, beamng has really good graphics but the performance depends mostly on cpu, and ram. The reason I got the 6500xt was because of the price, but I plan to upgrade to a 6600xt really soon.
Enlisted and War Thunder were purposely made to cover older hardware, so they would have larger player base.
Dont forget that the 6500xt and the 6400xt run at PCIe 4.0 x4 and memory bus at 64bit and thats what mainly got the negative reviews on these cards since they will run even more poorly on pcie 3.0 and the asked price at that time when they were released .
There's more than that. It's a laptop GPU retooled for desktop. So it's not like AMD made a new generation card better than the card it replaced. The way it's meant to be is you make something better, not something that's slower than the previous gen 5500xt. Plus only 2 video outputs, plus no encoder meaning no streaming, plus they gimped the bus to save money. I mean why not just keep making the 4gb 5500xt like they did with the 580. Would have been a better outcome for gamers.
@@Jwalker76 True !
@@Jwalker76 Brand new 5500XT would have costed more than 6500XT to produce (then and now) . These "new" cards are simply old mining chips paired with new board.

Glad I just waited and got a 6650XT
Looking like a digital foundry review here
gonna get the 6800 XT
I got a 3060 last week
Will it work with a Dell optiplex 7020?
It’s obviously going to depend on what tower size, but you aren’t going to see these types of numbers on them. The optiplex is PCIe 3, and not 4, so these will not run as efficiently. Probabaly 20% worse
Note for tight cases that the one card is short but is still full height, so it isn't for compact cases.
Video idea who can build a better pc With a 1,000$ budget jack or matt
Turn on Amd smart access memory for 6500xt
You can use CMD to activate windows
6:15 guys why cpu usages are different in forza tests? they are like 50% with 5500xt and 30% with 6500xt
It means the 5500xt can only cope 50% CPU usage and the 6500xt can only cope with 30% CPU usage. It means its a GPU dependant game and the GPU is the bottleneck because there is some CPU usage left over.
Pairing a CPU with a better GPU will end up increasing the CPU usage because it has to work harder to keep up with it. As long as the GPU sees high utilization (90+%, assuming the FPS isn't capped), it's not being bottlenecked, therefore giving you it's best possible performance.
Now THIS is Toasty Bros content!
My 6700xt freezes like that every time I drop into warzone
I fixed it by reducing the shadow cache from ultra to high 😂😂
DB LEVELS PLEASE!!!
I think the 5500xt be a great choice to have!!!!!!!!!!!
I suggest picking up a used rx 580 as they are under $100 now
AMD messed up the specs for the 6500XT in my opinion. It is too similar to the RX6400. It should have been an exact mid-spot between the RX6600 and the RX6400, but it isn't. The 6500XT and 6400 have the same 16MB Infinity Cache and the same 64-bit interface with 34 ROPs. The only major difference is the 6500XT has a much higher base and boost clock. AMD's website even says the maximum VRAM should be 8GB, but I've never seen an 8GB 6500XT variant here in the UK. The RX6600 has slower memory but with a much higher effective bandwidth, though the 128-bit interface and 32MB Infinity Cache make it a far better option than the 6500XT.
5500xt I am seeing for like 2-300 bucks new on amazon

i wonder how it would do if u put the rX6500 in a dell optilex
it probably would have to much watts depending on your OptiPlex psu and if it’s not pcie 4 i think it will have less performance
Definitely worse and much worse depending on the tittles. This is why 6500XT doesn't even have to be considered an option since people on this budget is most likely pairing these GPU's on older OEM/office PC's.

is not new is a sort of refurbished.
The same way they take old tires and remove the exterior worn out thread piece and then just add a new threaded layer. These are "new" with a warranty but nobody will actually enforce the warranty because "is the user's fault how they use the vehicle" when those "new" tires fail. And they fail spectacularly, with pieces breaking off.
Same here with the old dies. Those things can fail any time and it can always be blamed on the user.

Well the 6500xt is 150 dollars. But you can get a cheaper rx580 that would most likely out perform the 6500xt with an overclock or perfrom right with it stock. So I'd probably not listen to these guys this time.

nice to see Seth Rogen
The Intel Arc A770 and A750 are brand new cards in 2022, and are by far the BEST GPUs for anyone who wants to spend under $500 & now outperforms some cards even over that price; the A770 is based on TSMC's 6nm process, and it comes with 4,096 shading cores and 32 RT (ray tracing) cores. The GPU runs at a 2,100 MHz frequency and has 512 execution units, 256 TMUs, and 128 ROPs. We also get 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM in this bad boy.
RTX3060 card is much older, being announced in January 2021, and it is based on TSMC's 8nm process, and it has a more conservative 3,584 shading cores (CUDA cores) and 28 RT (ray tracing) cores. It also gets 112 Tensor cores, which enable the use of things like DLSS, as well as 112 TMUs and 48 ROPs. And as far as VRAM goes, 12GB GDDR6 VRAM.
So yes, the Intel Arc A770 is a superior upgrade than the RTX3060 AND equivalent AMD cards, BUT it costs LESS than AMD & Nvidia GPUs which are worse!
If you want to go as cheap as possible, the Arc A750 is now only $250 & massively outperforms budget cards like AMDs RX6600.
Whilst it is true that initially there were problems, like older games poor performance, that has been now been FIXED with recent drivers, with performance gains at increadibly increased levels, so Arc now is a great deal as it easily beats any other GPU under $500 & is pretty much always cheaper as well.
AND, with its vastly better hardware, it will continue to get better & better performance, free extra FPS, as the drivers get better, so it is far more future proof than cards like the RTX3060Ti.
Summary of GPUs based on budget for best bang for your buck:
Under $500 - Intel Arc.
$500-$1000 - AMD
Over $1000 - Nvidia.
The driver issues are the big reason why people are hesitant about the ARC cards
While I agree that the Arc series is a good buy for the price, comparing shading units/cores and whatnot between completely different architectures doesn't make much sense. For example, an RX 5700 XT "only" has 2560 cores, but usually performs the same or better than an RTX 3060.
You may as well get something older and used that performs better than either of those cards. Especially if you’re going with AMD.
The rx 5500 is this best $100 card
You should save for 4090
Not every user needs that much horsepower along with it being stupidly priced
Wait until the chinese slap the 6500 with 8gb vram
I'll stick with my 4070ti
Don’t buy either of these cards. Save your money a little longer and buy a 6600
The RX 6500 XT just plain sucks at Cyberpunk, idk why. It's worse than the 4GB R9 290. I suspect the 64-bit memory bandwidth is the main culprit of most of its problems.
that's why games like control suffer from textures issues that is rooted from the paltry 64 bit mem bus
