i will definitely be watching but they could have done this when he was alive!
how could they do this if he was alive this is a documentary about his life
They did in 1980 called The Little Richard Story directed by William Klein.
During the last few years of his life he shunned the Little Richard persona
I wish so too, but he probably wouldn't allow them to talk about some things :/
Hope I learn a lot more about him when I watch this! WOOOO!
Exactly! He was the Artictect of Rock & Roll
It's about time this man is given flowers. He's a pioneer and an icon.
A living LEGEND.
@@ronneyrendon5045 as well as a major pain in the a$$
Well he's dead now 😬
@@ronneyrendon5045 Little Richard passed away in 2020.
“About time”😂 that SOUNDS like the right thing to say but in reality little Richard has been appreciated for decades meanwhile someone like Sister Rosetta Tharpe gets no appreciation. Her was her fan. She discovered him AND she was a woman which is huge
About damn time! This is a documentary long overdue.
Amen, brother, AMEN!
SAY IT LOUDER IN A BULLHORN FOR THE FOLKS IN THE CHEAP SEATS IN CHINA TO HEAR!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
His book was good, the TV movie so so (miscast lead with Leon) but let's hear what others have to say...
Amen
I had the honour of meeting Little Richard and Chuck Berry in the '90s. It was like meeting Thunder and Lightning themselves!
Beautifully put!
Sadly, I never got to see Little Richard perform. But I did once hitch a ride from Chuck Berry.
And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Luke 10:18
So jealous ❤
We are living in a golden age of truly great music documentaries! Summer of Soul, The Velvet Underground, and now Little Richard. Whoooo!!!!
Before there was an Elton John, there was a Little Richard. He is the king of Rock and Roll.
Before there was _any_ of 'em!
No lies detected
Elton who?
@@Jimmy1982Playlists So true.
Elvis didn’t do too bad either
Little Richard is the essence of rock n roll...thank you Mr Penniman, for blowing minds all over the world!
Amen!
For those who keep saying it's about time... Or he's finally getting his flowers, there were whole productions about little Richard, with Little Richard, and/or involving Little Richard...Where have y'all been?
Thank you. I was reading the other comments & thinking the same.
It's cool they're doing a New production about him, but there's actually been quite a bit done in various productions over the years honoring his life and career.
But I guess some folks just don't know.
Yeah and there was a pretty good movie in the 90s starring Leon.
The ARCHITECT of Rock n Roll, Richard Penniman = Little Richard!
My late father & uncle got to see Little Richard back in the 1950s when they were teenagers growing up in Philadelphia. My Uncle Bill told me that L.R. was his favorite of all the early greats of RnR. I wish that both my dad & U.B. were alive as well as L.R. to see this. Rock on!
Little Richard was a unique and original artist, innovative and flamboyant!! A real ROCK N ROLL LEGEND AND ICON!!! Can you imagine being a teenager in the 50s and seeing him?!
It must have been a massive culture shock moment...a real youthquake!
Like the first time I saw David Bowie, back in the 70s!!!
I got to perform onstage with Little Richard in the 90s!💜 Nice person..great performer..(and very perfumed).
Little Richard should have had a documentary years ago, but I'm glad that a film has been created. His movie was cool as well.
they have....I have seen many documentaries of Richard and loved them all and will love this one too
Literally Little Richard was the king of rock and roll. Elvis even knew it.
How did I not make the connection between John Waters' moustache and Little Richard's till now. The architect influences all...can't wait to see this.
Waters has a great story about meeting Little Richard, in his book Role Models
@@juleahbrewer4527 Excellent! I'm on a huge John Waters binge, buying up his books. Thanks for the recommendation!
@@OpheliaDarkling In this film he mentions it was an intentional homage to richard - the soundtrack of his life.
About time he gets his recognition 👏🏿
From the great musicians of his day and post - he got lots of recognition and love - from the beatles, to Elton, the Stones, David Bowie, Prince, MJ (who bought the rights - and gave the money to Richard) - and even Elvis told Richard that little Richard was the King of rock and roll - all that happened - a great film to watch. It speaks to all of that and more.
There’s been a few documentary’s about him. Some when little Richard was alive
There will never be another Little Richard, certified legend. I hope I can speak for all of us when I say we miss him dearly ❤
Two men made piano rock and that is little Richard and Jerry Lee lewis never forgotten ❤
Y’all just can’t help it😂😂😂
Just had to mention a white man. Can't let a black man get credit for one thing 😂😂 and little Richard is wayyy better. I mean at least he didn't marry his 13 year old cousin
I REALLY THINK THIS IS WHY PRINCE WAS SOOOO FEARLESS.
I ALWAYS SAID TO MYSELF PRINCE WAS THE MOST COURAGEOUS BLACK MAN IN MUSIC. HE'S ONLY 2ND TO RICHARD. HE DID BACK DOING THE 50S & 60S. DWELL ON THAT.
@@averyj8924
No disrespect, but you're being kinda ignorant right now. The music industry is full of black icons. Even to this day, you can hear Rockstars talking about their love and admiration for BB King, James Brown, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Sam Cooke, Jimi Hendrix, etc.
And many of these black men had to deal with America when segregation was still happening. So imagine how harder it was for their career.
Prince is courageous, but the way for both black men and queer men in the industry was already made by the time he got famous.
All of the great artists were both fearless - and insecure. Such is human nature.
FINALLY! After watching the biopic with Leon, we FINALLY GET A DOCUMENTARY 🥹😭
Without this legend we wouldn't have so many artists we know and love, he is the real king of Rock n Roll
Little Richard’s 1950s Specialty singles are the best RnR records ever made imo. The absolute peak of the frenzied ‘fierce joy’ that attracts me to the genre is found among them.
All our favorite artists have good and bad about them. I believe in building them up on their own merits.
Little Richard was the King & Queen of Rock & Roll, and I say that as high compliment!
🎉🥂🎉
Seen him around 1989.He really knows how to work a crowd.
This looks fantastic! Can't wait.
Wow! This looks stunning. Now this is what you call an influencer!
Amen to that!
Little Richard was the original OG. Before OG even existed.
His Grammy appearance with David Johanson/Buster Poindexter is priceless
Damn you, Pat Boone. And everyone who purchased his "Tutti Frutti" single.
Why? It made him a millionaire and gave him the recognition he needed. Everyone knows who is the architect, the emcipator, the queen of rock and roll.
Saw it tonight. Cried like a baby in the end. So good and inspiring
I saw it too last week - and the tears kept a comin.
The word icon is thrown around a lot these days but here's a person who is the real deal.
He was so underrated and under appreciated
That might be the most apt title ever - the true King of Rock and Roll bar none ;)
Não 😂😂
I will definitely be looking at this documentary. Little Richard is extremely accurate in his claims of all the artists He helped influence. Everybody from Liberace to Elvis to prince to Michael Jackson to Jimi Hendrix to Mick Jagger to David Bowie to Steven Tyler to Robert Plant to Rick James to Sylvester to Morris Day and of course discovering James Brown who got his hairstyle, as well as his swag from little Richard…. I guess the only other person who wasn’t really influenced by little Richard was Sammy Davis, Jr.
CNN Films produces some outstanding documentaries on different subjects - first Apollo 11, then Navalny and now this one on Little Richard.
navalny is cia garbage, sorry but to call that "outstanding" is pathetic and giving it an oscar should be considered a trespass on your intelligence....
I saw him perform in the late 60’s. Unforgettable.
God bless, Little Richard ❤ adore his style, his voice, his musicianship ❤
Lemmy of Motorhead was a huge Little Richard fan- his influence is far reaching that's for sure 🎹🎤
Lemmy loved him so Little Richard.
I'm definitely going to want to watch this film about the legend of Rock & Roll, Little Richard, but I just wish they had given him all of his flowers and accolades before he passed and became confined to a wheelchair. He was an extraordinary performer and an excellent vocalist. 🔥🔥🔥
how old are you? I have seen many documentaries of Richard and loved them all and will love this one too
Fun fact, Little Richard's dad Charles Penniman is my grandfather William Penniman's brother, We never met him though but my mother's first cousin went to school with him.
1:01 I LITERALLY SCREAMED!!!! When I saw my older cousin Ashon!!! 😍😍 I’m soooo proud of him!! Definitely watching now in support. Him and his brother are my two favorite cousins!!! 😻😻🥰🥰
Omg that’s amazing
@@cinematicmoviedude yess it definitely is! 😻😻😻 Thanks luv! ☺️
@@IAmErynMichelle you’re so welcome
@@cinematicmoviedude 🥰☺️
One of my favourites! About time they gave this guy some air time!! He was and still is a genius!
This is only the second film about Little Richard that I have ever heard about. It is a shame. He is as responsible for rock music as anyone in history. I met him at a soul food restaurant in Marina Del Rey back in the 90s. He was kind and signed an autograph that I still have now
This looks absolutely FANTASTIC. Cannot wait to learn more about Little Richard.
I went to the screening in harlem - it will blow you away!
Why was I brought to tears so many times during this film?
My favorite artist! So badass, so ahead of his time, so revolutionary, so rockin'!!!
He was the true King of rock and roll music.
How could it take this long? I've been teaching about Little Richard as a queer icon and true king of Rock for years. Can't wait to see this much-needed doc!
Sin duda uno de los grandes artistas y musicos del rock and roll
Everyone interested in this should read Little Richard's incredible honest and revealing autobiography "The Life and Times of Little Richard". He held nothing back in that book.
I can't wait for this. Little Richard is the architect and it's well about time he gets his due.
That man just ooooooooooooozed charisma.
Finally props to the true King of Rock'n'Roll!
I feel the same. Little Richard was the true King of Rock and Roll.
The true king of rock and roll...
I have a painting of Little Richard in my living room. I love him
Thank God it's a documentary and not another biopic based on a famous person's life. Better to see the man as he actually was and see the real impact, he had on the word rather than some film makers interpretation of his story.
There's more documentaries then biopics in the first place. What's the point of your comment?
They made a great Little Richard biopic in the 90s'
I’m so glad they are doing this from an autobio pov. Instead of a biopic. No one told Little Richard better than himself.
These documentaries do more service to the people than films imo.
Biopics bring more views
Yes Little Richard is everything!🌹
Im ready for this one. That interview he did in London in the pink sitting at the piano is my favorite. I swear i laugh everytime i watch it
The man who inspired all flamboyant performers from Prince and Michael Jackson to Macho Man Randy Savage
No Richard - no Beatles. That is all ❤
I loved the biopic starring Leon. This is going to be so good!!!!
Can’t wait!!
I suggest seeing The little Richard story with Leon playing him produced by Little Richard. Great performance even in his last years, saw him coming out on his elaborate wheelchair up to his piano and singing away.
Just saw it; It was outstanding. Beatles & Rolling Stones gave him his props.
I was hoping they would mention the beatles and stones - because for years, decades, Paul Always said - it was about Little Richard - The beatles intro to rock and roll was through the King little richard. It was good to see the young beatles cheeking up to LR in one photo. A great film overall.
The self proclaimed architech of rock n roll!!!
Little Richard a modern day documentary on him is way over due. The last on was with himself in the early 1990s
I will definitely be watching this. The True King of Rock n' Roll Lil Richard. Shut up!
Even elvis said he wasn't the king. He said it was lil richard.
0:13 to 0:15 he should star in the little Richard movie that would be so 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
True Story Michael Jackson purchased ATV catalogs in 1986 in Australia. He owned many masters including the Beatles. And Michael had a fee for the Artist to get their masters. Only two people got their masters back for free. Sly Stone and..... Little Richard. For a long time, Little Richard was protesting " Y'all ain't pay me nothing!!' Notice how suddenly he stopped? That's because MJ gave him his masters. In the 90s, Prince would do his version of Little Richards protest by putting slave on his face. While everyone, including recording artist thought Little Richard was bitter and his ego was out of control during his protest, Michael Jackson and Prince, his two musical children, understood what Little Richard was really trying to say.
And that’s the reason why Little Richard had respect for Michael Jackson and took his passing hard.
Little Richard was the architect of rock ‘n’ roll.
Go little Richard. I memories of you!
Long live little Richard the architect
It opens on my born day, I know what I’m going to be watching.
Man I HATE I couldn't make the showing yesterday. Can't wait until it streams
I can't wait to watch this!
God bless this pioneer. He truly was the king...i think him and Chuck Berry can arguably share that crown. But one thing no one ever mentions is that Elvis never referred to himself as the king of rock n roll, that was pestowed on him from the public. Honestly i think if Elvis were here and he was asked what he thought of Little Richard saying he was the king....in my opinion i think Elvis would 100% agree with that statement. He never missed an opportunity to talk about the guys that opened the doors for him.
Now this seems epic. Used to imitate him on the singstar we had, great memories. I love TUTTI FRUITY ONE OF THE BEST!
Watch the documentary cause the original title was tootie fruity good booty ❤
0:12 exactly!
Little Richard was such a great talent along with Chuck Berry snd Elvis. And he was a good person.
The architect! Saw him once! Looks good!
“He was an integrator. Elvis was a blessing. They wouldn't let Black music through. He opened the door for Black music. We was one of the main doors that came through. Chuck Berry was another door himself. And we’re not saying that Elvis wasn’t a main door. I would never say that. Because Elvis started white people to really sing rock ‘n’ roll”. I love him. That’s my buddy, my baby. I love him. We are very good friends, and it was a very great loss to the music world,”“Elvis is one of the greatest performers who ever lived in this world.”
Little Richard
I am up for this one!
What's funny is I never considered Little Richard influenced Prince..Now I see it big time..lol. Don't know how I looked past that all these years
Little Richard isn’t the King of Rock and roll, he’s the QUEEN of rock and roll 😁
They're only one real king of Rock n Roll, and his name is Little Richard.
I always viewed Chuck Berry as the true "King of Rock and Roll," but Little Richard is a revolutionary in his own right.
I love and miss you Richard Pennimen The Great!!!
finally, should have gave him his flowers while he was here
FINALLY. The KING.
The goat, I can see wear prince got his style from if you see prince purple train era he even looks like him
Should’ve been inducted to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 💯
Richard was inducted in 1986 / 1987.
@@dariusdiamante317 💯💯💯
Y’all need to look up Esquerita if you want to see where Little Richard got all that whoooo and style from.
My favorite musician is Prince. Now i see that Little Richard was into purple before Prince. The riddle - Which came first the egg or the chicken. Well when it comes to purple Little Richard came first.
Crazy thing is that he never received a Grammy. Not even an Honorary Grammy
Can't wait!
Watching now. Boy, that queen was loud!😂😂😂
Leon Played the Hell out of Little Richard I wish that was a regular moive and not a TV moive because he most definitely would’ve been nominated for an Oscar. But I hate he didn’t at least get any Tv nominations
