This very E3 conference was THE biggest "PR home run" ever to see the light of day in the gaming industry! Sony absolutely knocked it out of the park. This is how you convince consumers to buy your product.
It hasn't even been a decade but I feel so much nostalgia seeing this, one of if not the greatest E3 conference of all time. Not just because of the PS4 reveal, not just because of them completely owning Xbox, but this was the day I found out that Kingdom Hearts 3 was coming. Kingdom Hearts was always a game series that meant so much to me, so when that got announced, I literally started crying.

Hint: Both titles are Japanese, one familiar and one entirely new IP with an alternative universe of a very popular Konami franchise. Keyword: military and space. Wild Arms is coming back on PS5 by MediaVision, but don't expect to see it until beyond PS5 launch. This is not a joke, it's real. This entire conference was such a flex. Not only do they double down on the notion that consoles are FOR GAMING, but they drop the biggest mic ever in a conference by completely going opposite to Microsoft's plans for the new generation. This was huge, because if Sony followed suit, the entire industry would most likely follow in MS and Sony's new model, completely destroying the model of purchase and consumption that most people still follow. If this conference hand't gone this way it would have went like when Apple removed the headphone jack and now look at where we are now in the Android market
I think anyone who is trying to work in marketing should look at the marketing campaigns of Sony and Microsoft in this console launch as examples of what to do and what not to do. You can learn a lot, even if you have nothing to do with marketing like me.
The moment that Playstation singlehandedly save Sony from bankruptcy. One of the greatest comeback in corporate history. I know because I was an analyst analysing Sony stock at the time and it was all gloom for Sony before the PS4 was showcase.
