    Great video!
    I have recently taken over the maintenance of my pool and am learning to operate this pump in greater detail. I really appreciate the well explained operation of the pump and the programming features. Now what I really need is some good advice on a productive schedule for the pump's operation. How many hours should I be running my pump? Which hours? What speed for any given block of hours, ie Speed number 1-8? What is the maximum speed my pump should operate at?
    I would imagine there are details to specific pools that would help to determine these settings so I'll describe my pool as well as the common challenges I have. I live in the Dallas/Ft Worth area of North Texas. HOT in the summer! The pool is a free form rectangular pool of about 16,000 gallons with a depth that goes from about 3 1/2' on each to about 5' in the middle. My Pentair Intelliflo pushes water through a 60 sq ft Pentair DE filter. The pool is oriented E/W so the sun hits the water most of the day. I have a spill over spa and a rock formation waterfall. The waterfall has it's own pump and the Polaris has a booster pump which is currently running 2 hours each morning. The pool is filled with well water that has a high Ph and I battle algae all summer if I don't stay on top of the chemical balance, something my old pool maintenance guy got pretty complacent about.
    During a recent issue of heavy algae brought on by a (post storm) really dirty pool I sought advice from a pool supply store on when to run the pump at higher speeds. That person suggested my high speeds such as 3400 be run during the day to keep the water running through the filter and discouraging the growth of algae. Another pool expert has advised the the higher speeds should be reserved for night time when electrical rates are low, and day time speeds be at a more moderate 2000RPM pace.
    Soooo. Back to my original questions: How many hours should I be running my pump? Which hours? What speed for any given block of hours, ie Speed number 1-8? What is the maximum speed my pump should operate at?
    Thanks for staying with me on this lengthy post, any advice is appreciated.
    Stuart

      That is a great question, yet it is one that has a lot of different variables and details involved so i would suggest giving Pentair's support team a call. They should be able to provide those specifics and work with you to get your pump and system dialed in.

    Gotta tell you this is by far THE best video on this topic. I’ve seen most of them and nothing comes close. Thanks so much.
    One question: Does the pump cycle through schedules sequentially? e.g. if I have a schedule in #5 and another schedule in #6 does the pump execute them in order? Thanks

    • @gial8862
      @gial8862 Před 3 lety +1

      It executes them based on the schedule…
      So 9pm to 12:01 was one schedule, then 12:01 to 8am could be another, but instead of number 6, it could have been number 7 that you scheduled from 12:01 to 8am, and then you may make number 6 into a 8:01 to 2pm schedule. This would cause the order to jump from 5 to 7 and then back to 6, etc.

    • @genemcloud4114
      @genemcloud4114 Před 3 lety +1

      @@gial8862 got it. So the schedules are executed based on the time of the schedule not the number of the schedule. That makes total sense. Gee I’m such a bozo! Thanks

      @@genemcloud4114 , true, but really your idea was quite logical. Pentair made it a bit complicated here. But its not too bad i guess.
      Im still trying to figure out what the best speed and schedule is for my pool. The defaults so far are not good enough. I need to better configure it so the slow flow rate doesnt turn off my heater.

    • @genemcloud4114
      @genemcloud4114 Před 3 lety +2

      @@gial8862 I saw a video by Pentair (I think) where the author recommended a 24-hour schedule. Since variable speed pumps are so efficient, running them at say 1000 rpm consumes very low wattage. So, I set mine up to run around the clock. Of course, here in FL we don't worry much about heating -- although I actually do have solar panels connected to my system. Sadly, I can't vacuum and skim at the same time, so I occasionally plug in the vacuum and raise the pump speed for an hour or two to clean the bottom. Most pools in FL are in a screen cage so very little debris gets in the pool.

    • @gial8862
      @gial8862 Před 3 lety +1

      @@genemcloud4114 , my propane heater turns off if the rpm’s are around 1200 or less. I dont know the exact rpm yet.
      I have a polaris that does the vacuuming for me. It does an incredible job. The opening of the pool the service company vacuums once and im set. But i notice the skimmers dont pull hard enough to fully open the skimmer doors unless im at least 1750 rpms. I think 1750 wil be my most used schedule and then 1000 for maybe a few to several hours. I’ll have to test it out. Im outside DC, and get a lot of tree leaves. Id get a screened in housing but i imagine cleaning the leaves off of it would be even more of a job.

I did a factory reset as you described, seemed to work, but the reason I did it is because the screen on my pump (yes, this brand/style) is saying "DELAY Not Active" for several seconds, about every 10 seconds! Hi there Sherri, it is a two-way communication system, so if you have the pumped programmed already it will read back to your automation system once you connect it to the automation. If you haven't programmed it yet then you would want to do it from your automation system so that way it will send that programming info to the pump. Hope this helps!

So I found it best to just keep it on the min GPM to operate both and only adjust when I’m doing chemicals or swimming. Sorry I couldn’t be more help. The heads seem to pop up sometimes all the way and sometimes not. I removed all the heads and let it flush the system to get any debris cleared. The heads are suppose pull from above also while pushing water-flow but they do not. They just push water up through the holes... I was told I need to increase my pump speed a bit. My pump it a VARIABLE SPEED PUMP intelliflo vsf ALL NEW EVERYTHING. Its set at 2400 how high can I run it and will it ruin anything at a higher speed...
