Thanks! That one with the quests was exactly what I was thinking. They could do soo much with the NPCs and Utopia - e.g. you could also help Utopia grow by finding people on other islands, salvaging machinery, providing food or materials that are needed to repair or build new buildings and features. Currently Utopia is still a ghost town for 95% of the area, with the rest of the town just consisting of solved puzzles. When I left Utopia after finishing the Story, it was nice and a bit "Waterworld"ish, but if you're not a person that strives to improve their raft, there's nothing to do for you anymore at that point, it might feel empty.

I would totally be down to help expand Utopia. On that note, what about Rebuilding Caravan town, finding a way to "tug" Tangaroa to Utopia (after fixing the bots and getting rid of the rats and bugs), all to help repopulate this soggy world. I'd like to be able to build on my own island as a base of opperations, and get coordinates that you add to your journal to be able to get back to it. The story can stay as it is. The next stage of Raft could be a DLC for rebuilding the world and would include questing, new materials (looking at all the bamboo already in the world, and concrete), new blueprints, an island to call your own, what about being able to explore the depths of the flooded world to retrieve certain items (or update the radar to have a sonar feature and build a dredging hook to drop down and pull up the items), and so much more that doesn't need to change what the story set down in chapter 3.

I love these ideas! Especially rebuilding on an island - rebuilding utopia could work but I think it would be even more popular to design your own island from scratch (although they could have pre-designed base options for those who dont like designing it themselves.) Part of the fun of raft is the sandbox and building aspects. I personally would love to be able to go on missions to gather supplies and to find and ferry survivours to an island I get to design and rebuild. As it stands you make and optimize your raft and never really get to use it when its done. You could use the exact same building system we have for our rafts to do a permanent island base. I would totally pay DLC for an update like that. I also wouldn't say no to even more customization options.

I like the idea of extra quests after you get to Utopia. a quest I think would be cool is some of the people at Utopia are missing a family member or friend and you have to go find them and bring them back. i love this game so much and I love how it has evolved over the years. would love to see some more to it

Just recently got into raft and seeing the game didn't see any content update for a year made me really sad. This game has so much potential. I really hope they don't throw this away.
It has so much potential I even played with the thoughts building a similar game myself and expand on the basic idea of raft.

You speak my mind! I have thought all of this as well before, I have like 600 hours in Raft and there are a TON of small things that they could change that would make the game 10/10.
I fear for a sequel, I think them going down the Minecraft path would be better, just add updates and updates and maybe even DLC (which they have stated they don't wanna do). I simply think Raft could be in the Top 20 games of all times in terms of sales and stuff but they just gave up way too early.

I am still playing this game months after completing Utopia. I create my own motivations to keep going. Like creating an enormous animal park in the back, creating spare bedrooms, turning the top floor into a concert hall, building giant towers to zip line down, collecting all the Tiki pieces, and yes completing all the achievements. I even found that you can swim all the way underneath Tangaroa if you eat the salmon salad and drink whichever juice drink makes you swim faster.

There are a couple of things that would be very easy to patch in, because I see them as semi-problems:
    - Make strawberry seeds spawn from the coolers you get from islands and sold from the trader. Currently, you get recepies that use them incredibly early in the game. You have to wait until Tangaroa until you can get the seeds, and you'll eventually run out. Then you need to go back for more, which doesn't feel right. By putting seeds in chests, not only are the recepies relevant, but it gives players more of a reason to build planters.
    - Have banana trees a semi-rare spawn on islands, and allow you to gather recourses from ALL trees every ~5 minutes. It is silly that you have to chop down a tree to pick its coconuts, and you'll run out of seeds just like you would strawberry ones.
And while it's probably too late to fix these, you get certain blueprints way too late in the game for them to be of any real use. You can build the advanced controls in the middle of the game, but have to wait until virtually the end before you can use its anchor feature. You get a large storage container after your raft is completely organized. You are given titanium tools when you beat the game, but never have a chance to use them because by that time your raft is complete and you are swimming in recourses. When I did my second playthrough, I used a mod to give myself every blueprint right away and it was a lot more fun building the raft.

Interestingly, I am convinced that there are already banana trees on some of the islands that you can not interact with. On subsequent half play throughs I have on more than one occasion thought "That sure looks like a banana tree. Wish I could harvest it".

Raft to me seems like the perfect game to do a DLC for, add a bunch of new islands, decorations, and maybe more base materials like a metal foundation, walls, etc. It could even be one of those sequel games that basically include the original game as part of the content. (Like you still have the Raft 1 storyline, but now you have a Raft 2 story to go along with it.)

  • @Rhacman

I just want the placement hitboxes to be more forgiving. Let me clip pipes through walls and place objects closer together even if they are technically clipping their models together. Beyond that, I'm content with them saving their resources for their next title.

There's so much potential. Once the devs will announce the release to the rest of the consoles, maybe we'll be hearing from them what will add next. Grounded once it left early access, it still gets frequent updates, so why not can't do for Raft as well?

Raft is one of the few games that I've completed 100% of achievements. I really love it and agree with your analysis. We need a lot of new content, maybe rebalance the blueprint locations, add a lot more of island varieties, new weapons, constructions possibilites, perhaps add some mods in the vanilla game like Farming Simulator 22 did.

  • @Thedrizzle404

The goal of any survival game is usually to go from "survive" to "thrive." It'd be great if you could help build up Utopia as a proper running settlement, and then eventually move to Temperance as a permanent settlement since it has a functional infinite energy source after you repair it. I'd like temperature to matter, so you have to gather leather and wool for warm clothing before landing on frozen lands, and placing all of the story islands at least 10x further apart than they currently are so you have time to naturally gather more resources instead of purposely putting it off before entering the next code.

Totally agree with your summation of what raft is, wife and I loved playing through the story mode, during Covid lockdowns our friends would meet on our raft, we had around 10 people at one stage, lagged a fair bit but was ok. Was a great game to hang out in. We finished the story afterwards and you're right, no real incentive to keep moving forward, know they're working on the ports but really I'd love to see a Raft 2 announced with a whole rework and upgrade of the engine and moving forward with some more story, and I'm kind of hoping, didn't know there had been such a long silence from them, that this is because they're working on something big and new.

ill never forget the first time i played and beat subnautica, it was such an amazing feeling to experience everything all together and at my own pace, all for the first time. overcome massive fears and feel awesome doing so. i wish i got to have that with raft, i remember when this game was first released on steam and the only bit of story you got was a radio tower, with like one white board at the very top hinting about a utopia where all the survivors went. for years it felt like i kind of already beat the game, i was just waiting for the next little bit of answers to my questions. i always loved this game, itll always be something really special to me. I hope that they make a sequel or just sell the rights to a company that will.

Great video! I´m only starting Raft again after a break for the last year give or take. I feel like they´ve added a lot in that time, and I really don´t expect any games to develop very fast anymore, as our demands are constantly rising, even though we´ve started playing these games in early access. I appreciate the work you and other YTers have put down to make useful videos for all the rest of us. Knowing this, I also suspect that most of us are not spending more than a fraction of the time playing these games, as you do. So I fully understand why you become impatient, maybe also because you follow their progress a lot tighter than me. I still have high hopes for this game, and will revisit it ever so often. If for nothing else, just to dangle my legs off the edge of that raft while fishing for dinner.

On the note of verity a verity on loot tables like you pull a jug out of the water it gives you 1-3 plastic (simulating size variants to a degree) while raft is a complete game there is a option and room for DLC's to add more content in the future but I agree with the spiral staircase, NOW I will say this it DOES need a bigger footprint to work.

  • @FinalMyle

But you can sit bottles on tables or shelves. :) They don't have to hang on a wall or on the ceiling. :D
I do 100% agree with you about "there could be more". I do like the chill aspect of Raft though. It can get a bit grindy after awhile but when you're not grinding for resources and you're just letting the wind push your boat with no motor on, it's kind of nice.
Too many games these days think they have to constantly throw things at you to make it a good game. This is just poor development in an attempt to hide a bad game.

Idk, I always felt like survival games were meant to sort of be played infinitely in the way that raft is and that any story they got was honestly just a bonus. I went into Subnautica expecting spooky underwater survival and was pleasantly surprised that it also had a storyline to follow. And that game is still played quite avidly it seems, with people surviving for long amounts of time building their mega bases and doing cool stuff with it while ignoring the story entirely. It’s probably not for everyone, and some more useful end game content would be nice, I love the idea of survivor or trading post quests after utopia, but I feel like the whole point of a survival game is that surviving is the only motivation you need. Once that’s ensured, then like in Subnautica, many self imposed challenges and build potential exists to play around with. I think probably the best thing they could do once they are finally done with the console releases (if your suggestions are something they are wanting to implement) is to release proper modding tools to the community or at least make whatever changes needed to make modding easier if possible.

3:39 5:30 9:24 I would *love* to see the Raft devs create another survival game set entirely on land in the future tbh. They'd obviously have to make a much larger island (with multiple biomes) & adapt the base building + resource gathering to being on land, but they already have a great base to start from.
It would be cool to see what other animals they might add to a survival game like that, i.e. wolves, mountain lions, snakes, sheep, horses, cows, deer, foxes, moose, penguins, camels, etc.
They could probably even do a game with dinosaurs &/or mythical creatures like Ark lol - I feel like that would fit this art style well.

Devs shared some info in Steam discussions. They told that for now their goal is Console port. Reason for them to remain silent all this time is because they are literally reworking a WHOLE game code to make the game work on consoles and maybe...even allow us an actual crossplay. After that they want to start creating the Sequel. So, maybe we`ll not have all this industrial updates with the Glass and Metal building blocks, wiring system and world activities. Maybe some extra decor items, but no more.

I thought it could only get better with final release. I was so wrong. It really felt rushed and as you said. I'd love Raft to get more islands to explore and grind and quests would be great to. As much as I'd love to keep playing Raft and waiting for new releases, I don't really think anything good would come in future for us Raft fans. Once I built all my ideas for different style rafts I have not had the urge to go back to Raft. And yet I have been going back to Subnautica for many years now. And watching this I think the reason detail and variety, after 300 hours in the game I have everything memorized by now, while at more than 500 hours in Subnautica there are still little areas of the map that I come across for the first time, and everything is crafted to much higher detail. Still, 300 hours is certainly a good amount of time to have in a game before being done with it. Forever Skies is reminding me of Raft, we'll see if they manage to keep that game interesting enough to replay it as much as Raft.

How screwed the multiplayer is. There's a lot of "network lag" from the game engine. You can be on the same LAN and it is like the client is on the other side of the world to the host.

While I try to kill a warthog, the bird always trow a rock at me then if I continue to kill a warthog I die by this, then if I try to kill a bird first, a warthog start chasing me and I die by this again, so I don't know how to deal with this kind of situation
How I can kill one of this animal peacefully then?
Or how to deal with this situation?

The wart hpg can't hit you if you run in circles around it. Pepper the wart hog then when the bird starts getting close just make a break for it to dodge the rock then I normally just ignore the bird after because my spear can't get him lol

I'm surprised there are so few mods available for the game; is it that hard to alter or is there little interest in doing anything new & unofficial?
(The comparison I'm thinking of is Fallout, with Bethesda flat-out stating there won't be anything new for potentially a decade, so modders are coming up with DLC-sized content, like Fallout: London.)

  • @Brandjum
    @Brandjum Před 11 měsíci

You should look *more* into modding imho. There is a large modding community constantly making mods and adding awesome new stuff to the game. It really adds a lot.
Raft will also never be an "optimized game", as Raft was built on the Unity engine, which is a single core engine. So the performance, especially late game, is always limited to your CPUs single core speed. It would need to be made on an entirely different engine to change that (which won't happen).
I think the devs won't add much more to the game, if anything at all, sadly.
That aside, I entirely agree with the points you made in the video!

As someone who has finished the game twice, the game needs some loong term gameplay. Once you get to utopia, you get apl these tools but at this point theres not much else to work towards. Youve seen all the islands and can typically defeat any enemies with normal tools.
What would be neat to see would be to add many more islands and places to explore. Maybe you run into other communities that may or may not be friendly, hence titanium tools

Dude the net code is so bad (and that's coming from someone that preorder and played BF4 since day one), also another thing I'd love to see is that you have a clear completion from each island (as in you can grab all the recipes you need on the first go vs having to go back cuz you missed a recipe)

The trading post feature was a REALLY cool addition to the game. But the more I think about it, the more I just see wasted potential. They really could have taken it so much further to really enrich the game.
Also...how can you make an ocean survival game and not have sea turtles as some form of resource?!?

Let current Raft be, rather focus on a v2 with good graphics and more sandbox with randomization of islands. Most islands should have a trading shack, where can get blueprints and usable stuff early on, along selling for a currency (only one). Have missions and story line, where can get some rare and good items so the story last part is worth it. The end itself could be to cross a storm to get away from the area, where need certain items and skills using a larger raft to handle the weather, maybe even have collected a crew with individual abilities.

I have an idea for a way to keep the game interesting. People can give you quests to get a material for them, go to a certain location and do something there for them, etc.

To be fair, i think raft could continue the storyline even. They have utopia but they have a chance to continue the story towards rebuilding the civilization and continuing on with your raft, making updates and shiz. Also would 100% love to have different decorations esp from tangaroa.

The number one issue about this game is the ending and lack of using any new blueprints on your boat. This game has so much room for growth and its sad they did the bare min on the last chapter.

Yeah, it's been too long since the last update..a big shame to see cause I loved this game but I lost interest when I quickly ran out of things to do and when my game starting lagging into oblivion when my build got too big. Only thing I can do now is start a new world which I did but I got bored very quickly because I've obviously played it before. I'm really hoping for better optimisation along with new stuff adding to the game in the next update and I really hope the next update comes soon 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Is it wrong to compare this game to Arc or Terraria as a building game? I spent hundreds of hours on each of those games. I just started this game last week & am grinding titanium & it feels like I've already reached end game. I don't think Arc or Terraria even has a story, I just enjoy making my way up the tech path. I feel like this game has a lot of potential but as it stands, I maybe done with it after my 2nd week.

  • @Taolan8472
    @Taolan8472 Před 11 měsíci

Honestly, I don't think there is a "future" for Raft beyond what the community does with it.
I don't think Redbeet had any intention of updating the game again after the Chapter 3 update. I don't think the network issues would have been patched without the community push.
If, and that's a big if from my seat, they port to consoles... maybe we'll get one last bit of content. Maybe. The main feature focus should be some randomness to the island generation, more decoration options, and also more electric/automation options. The game has just the startings of electric and automation options, indicating the framework is there in the game, but they just haven't taken the step over the line.
The absolute radio silence from Redbeet tho is most of the nails in Raft's coffin. Will there be a Raft 2? Maybe, but it needs to have pretty much everything you mentioned here, plus some new mechanics and a better thought out story to be even remotely worth consideration.
