- When daughter Kayla brought her mom Cathy in, her hair was from the '80s and her wardrobe was 15 years old -- so spoiler: we helped her make some updates!

I love how he didn’t shit on people for using boxed dye like most hair stylists do. He just kindly explained how to properly do it to get the best results instead of telling people to just go to a salon. Not everyone can afford $100-$200 to get their hair done every 2-3 months.

Yes! Also, realistically this woman isn't going to go home and do a perfect blowout every time she washes her hair. More than likely she'll go back to brushing it out everyday because that's what she's used to doing. She would've benefited so much more from this if someone who actually knows curly hair actually taught her how to properly take care of it and style it.

It annoys the hell out of me when I go to the hairdresser and they just don't know what to do with curly hair, last time I had a cut I walked out and said to my friend that I needed to find an African hair dresser cos white Australian hairdressers can't cut curly hair for shit.
The reason her hair looked so frizzy was because she was dry brushing her naturally wavy/curly hair. I bet if she learned how to properly take care of it she would've love her hair. There was really no need to cut it and straighten it, just learning how to care for it.
Yeah, I think that because her hair was cut as if it was straight, her hair will grow out weird. It's sad that after the show when she washes her hair, her hair will go back to being curly and frizzy.

I agree with both of you. Natural curly hair is definitely beautiful but it's a LOT of hard work to maintain as a daily hairstyle. I have naturally pretty curly hair and honestly it's just much easier to straighten it most of the time. I'm sure she'd look good either way
I agree! Watching her brush that curly hair was like nails on a chalk board. Of course it’s frizzy when you brush it dry like that! Get her some Deva Curl, a bottle of hair gel and a wide toothed comb.

My mom never wore makeup, heels, or dresses. I also would never had made her go on a show to change herself. I was just noting the daughter is a hypocrite that's all.

The reason her hair looked so bad was because she never learned how to take care of curly hair. Rule number one of curly hair is to never brush it dry. It needs to be wet. But because she is brushing it dry it looks fifty times more frizzy
I liked her hair, just not the bangs. Someone should tell her how to take care of the curls. The hair will grow long again so everything is fine.

@@michellelovesanimals2237 Age is a hassle if your shoulders hurt so much you can't brush your hair. Long hair is beautiful when properly cared for but I don't want it so long I sit on it. I have it long enough to cover my bazooms and angel wings, wear it in a bun, plait it, beaver tail it, and wear it down around the house to give it a break. I am over 70.
I ask the haircutter to do a straight cut across the back bringing down sections to match. It winds up slightly longer in the front. NO bangs or wings thanks.

Ain't that the truth, y'all! Thankfully, I perty much can cut straight across, so I can do the 1/8 inch trim myself putting in the ponytail holder first...Just enough for dead ends. I am forever trying to get long hair. It barely covers my neck when it is none straight...
I remember seeing 10 Years Younger on TLC channel, and this stylist was like, if you're going to wear a ponytail, might as well cut your hair! ???....

Change is good, if you are nervous do some reasearch first on the salon and the stylists. A good hair stylist will take multiple factors into account like your hair type, length, current color, texture, face shape, skin color, skin undertone and eye color. If you want to do something different, spend more the first time and get a really good cut and color. Also you can always keep some length but get layers put in to cut off the dead ends and lighten the weight of your hair plus it will give you a style. I know it's unsolicited but I hope it may help you if you do decide for a change. You can find nice comfortable fitting clothes that aren't super baggy.

@@Profileneerlukket I just watched a short clip of you and your hair and I really think if you just put some longer layers in your hair it would look very flattering! Instead of short bangs you can always do longer bangs that start at your scalp and end just under your chin. Let me see if I can find a pic on the web.

This lady's hair is long but has beautiful layers to it. Notice that her shortest layer stops at her chin.
