8 $500 monitors, 2 $8 peripherals
TheButteredPotato Amazon Basics Wired Keyboard (because nobody has time for batteries). I’d prefer an ergonomic keyboard, wired, because I hate wondering if it’s some RF interference, or is the battery dead again?
Nah, more like around $250 per monitor
Gamers be like, 1 $500 monitor, 1 $200 peripheral
@@ianault8599 I do like that software that comes with 'Gamer' branding stuff. Its what we pay for tbf

Bringing a whole new meaning to the saying, "If it's worth doing, it's worth over-doing"
Step 1: get 8 monitors
Step 2: green code screensaver on all screens
Step 3: pretend like you're hacking into the matrix

14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
When you think that video is getting a bit cocky BAM he puts a Amazon Basic's keyboard .
Now I know why RAM is so freakin expensive
Yeah, they're low on stock since EM bought it all!
That's fairly normal to see that much or more on servers.
And i thought I was the coolest guy because I bought a second $40 monitor
I know the feeling lol
You are the coolest guy bud 🤛
I think ur cool. damn man! 2?! BRO YOU DONT NEED TO DO US LIKE THAT MAN
You ARE cool. And so am I...Your mom is pretty cool too!
LOL, you and me both. That was good.
2 quadros but amazon basics keyboard lol
People need to get out of here with their fancy LED keyboards looking like they trying to throw a rave party in their room.
Amazing hardware and setup, great job Engineer Man! I would recommend looking into a quality mouse and keyboard, I recently upgraded and I've felt an improvement in my ability to work with similar tools to the ones you were using. Otherwise I wouldn't change a thing, I hope one day to have a similar setup. Have you considered getting 1 larger primary monitor with 4k+ resolution?
There are plenty of mechanical keyboards that don't have lighting. I'm personally not fussed about lighting, but I need an ergonomic keyboard. I now have a couple of ErgoDox, although that's towards the extreme end of custom keyboards. A reasonable starter mechanical board is only about £25. Considering the attention you've spent to your visual setup, and the amount of time you must spend using it, I'm surprised your not also aware of quality input devices
They keys are important. Nobody talks about lighting.
@@EngineerMan a battle station of that level deserves a beastly keyboard, with that level of setup one of those crazy shaped or split keyboards wouldn't even look out of place . I could care less about rgb its cool and all but membrane switches are painful after switching to mechanical. I tried to go back to my old cheapo keyboard after spilling soda on my corsair but couldnt do it and got a eagletec and while switches are not as good as cherry itll hold me over until i get a better keyboard or decide to go build my own.
I still have no clue what you actually do to make money.
I'd be willing to bet something akin to Security Engineer.
he does database management by the looks of it.
I would agree there's absolutely no reason why someone in the year 2018 should own their own server... as oppose to a cloud server unless of course they were managing servers for others.
Don't ask questions you don't want to know the answer to
I build software.
meanwhile I'm here with 3 monitors getting absolutely roasted by my friends and family saying it's too much lmao
🤣😂😅 the same thing for me
It is !
Sameee
I'm a relative newcomer to your channel but I have to say I love how direct and straight to the point you are. Also, you're very informative and easy to understand. Loving it.
8 monitors? holy shit, and I thought 3 was a lot
its advisable to go up not out after 3
2x2 is way more usable than 4 x 3
just in case you're ever inclined to try again
I thought 2 was alot
Respect your setup. A man who actually is about getting work done (Atom, XUBT, Docker) instead of the hipsters who enjoy memorizing vim and reinstalling Arch every day.
Productivity productivity productivity.
Sorry I did not hear a thing you said, I was drooling too loud.
"8 $500 monitors, 2 $8 peripherals" - Gotta Compromise somewhere to Improvise Elsewhere.
Hey, I have Oneplus 6 too. And that's where the similarity ends...
A major part of my setup is the audio side. Having some premium stereo speakers and a subwoofer makes or brakes my system. When doing programming, certain music (mostly EDM) playing in high quality really boosts my productivity. Yes, headphones can sort of be ok, but for longer sessions, speakers are much better.
Great video, love how straight forward you are
Would love to see a day in the life/what you do to make money? Do you have a 9-5 or do you do contracts/freelance work?
Discovered your channel by accident and found it really helpful. You just got a new subscriber
Nice man!
Haha you got to have that one monitor to watch Ozarks on. Love the show and your workstation is sick.
The scariest thing at the end of each month for you would be your electricity bill. Lol, awesome hardware dude!
Solar generator lol

I used to have four monitors but then after a few years I realized having such a firehose of information in front of my face is screwing up my attention span. Now I have just one large curved display and I decide what I want to do with it before I do it. My goal is to minimize context switching and really work on only one thing for long periods of time....
Choice is not always a good thing, the older I get the more I feel that.
After seeing this I feel like I'm sitting behind a typewriter now...
Ur house, it's not just a house, it's heaven
Awesome setup! I was just wondering what that package in Atom you were using was, now I know it's the minimap, thanks!
this is a sick setup! dang! i'm jealous!
Impressive set up man!
Nice setup my man. I used to be a big fan of multi-multi monitors (I had 4 at my peak) but I’ve since cut it down to two. Mainly because my neck started to get messed up with the little twisting and turning all day. -TMMJ
Awesome man ... wish i had knowledge like urs
Dude you rock. Love it.. I thought I was showing off with 4 monitors
You should do a video about how to install and configure nginx and apache on the same server, I have nginx but I totally failed trying to setup apache.
Highly admire your equipment :)
Great setup Thanks for sharing
Do you listen to the audio from the 4th monitor or play music, or no noise preferred? JW thanks for the details! Soooolve that 3x3 Rubiks cuuube
Owo..... impressive. I never imagined someone can have such a huge workstation at home....
Good lord man. I thought me having 3 monitors was excessive. That is until I started doing CTF stuff, then it felt like I don't have enough. Personally I like to rotate one into portrait mode for reading manuals or text-heavy web pages.

Christ yer setup is baller. What're you trying to do, compute targeting sequences for missiles? Damn son.
Missile sequence day is Tuesday. :)
Have you considered running QubesOS? Seems it would be pretty handy in your use case
that's an amazing personal setup
That would be like my dream workstation.
Hi mate; awesome rig you have there!! - I was wondering, though, how do you deal with the noise the R620 must be making?? I have been thinking about getting one for a home lab but can't think of putting all that noise inside the house!! - Thanks again; love you channel and your content. D.
It's not super loud at idle or low load. It's also in another room. For all intents and purposes, I never hear it.
Can you make a guide for a low cost home server setup for running scripts, auto backups, and VMs? I only have a MacBook Pro and an RPI3 for the moment, and I am not working from home so it would just be fun and doesn’t need to be powerful.
Real life Batcomputer love the video BTW 😎👍
hi man, curious whats your notepad/editor of choice as daily driver?
- mobaxterm
- winsshterm

Thanks!
Where and how do you even begin to get into software engineering at this sort of level? Living in the UK doing a level 3 access course in computing, planning on going out trying to find some sort of work as an IT technician to get work experience in IT early and save up enough money to be free to relocate around the country to find work and whatever besides self financing my education due to having previously used up all my student finance support on a previous biomed course which i failed. Do I need to make it an end goal to get a computer science degree or should I just look around for entry level programming work on some level?
2:10 Can’t wait for season 2 of Ozark
What's the point in having the Dell octacore CPU with hyperthreading and also a separate CPU for your monitors?
Was expecting you are using arch or something else. Thats so much monitor and server and workstation spec, what is its usage though?
Awesome setup.
Wow, that is pretty impressive kit. Anyway that you can put your server in a half height or even quarter height rack?
Not sure, I've never tried.
Awesome setup and would need your amazing computer knowledge to run efficiently. I was thinking wouldn't your monthly power utility bill be very high...also you are going to need a very large data account. Cheers
Bro, what are you doing? :D Are you a web developer? System Administrator? Game Developer? DevOp or what??? :D I am very curious about that but anyway nice equipments :D
deneme deneme everything
He is working obviously on his youtube channel, but also owns a start up. You can find much more out at his discord too if you'd like.
He streams Minecraft on Twitch
He's clearly baking cupcakes. Can't you see that?
With that toaster of a rig I'm sure he's making some toast.
killed it with the monitors
Baller status! I love it
Hi Mr engineer Man I am starting out in python and I have a good grasp on it I was just wondering how you can get better on it and also are there any CTFS I could do I know a bit of c++ aswell
Very nice setup! I have a OnePlus 6T myself. Do you ever worry about the Chinese having spyware on your phone?
Is a server like that a better option than paying Digital Ocean or a VPS monthly? How good of a internet connection is required? Also how much in electric bills if you don’t mind?
Pretty low. Each monitor is only 27 watts and computer is ~300 watts.
No. Running hardware like him costs a lot more and doesn't come with the nice fall-back/redundancy mechanisms you get with a cloud provider. Now a 1GB VPS server with 25GB storage can be had for $5/month.
@@StunnerAlpha Hi: can you recommend a company or two I could check out for VPS with that much storage that you think are good? Thanks!!!
substrate001 I used to use Amazon Lightsail but I went with them initially because of their brand name. Their dashboard and tools you use to admin your instance are quite bad and frequently riddled with bugs. Found vultr a few months back and switched after realizing the same instance I could get for a 3rd of the price.
Have been using them ever since and have had no problems. What I really like is the ability to take and store as many snapshots as you like at no charge. www.vultr.com/?ref=7591221
@@StunnerAlpha 👍👍👍 Thanks so much for the *_lightspeed_* reply. Definitely checking out Vultr. This guy's setup is quite impressive, but I def don't need all that (nor would I ever put it all to use with my limited skills). Thanks again!
I tried a similar setup with my Macbook, but the GPU doesn't allow more than two monitors. There a way to override and/or work past that?
Dude I have 2 monitors and one of them is my laptop's screen, this is just crazy
Is there a update to this? 4 years ago in tech is a long time. Like your channel; been trying to learn programming but I have a few mental blocks that make it harder. But still pushing.
You have my dream setup lol. I’m running a R710 Virtualization Server with one 240GB SSD and 2 500GB HDDs (Spare drives, didn’t have to buy em so why not) running XenServer with dual Intel Xeon E5s, a Raspberry Pi 3 for hosting my VPN, MacBook Air for work, and a Gaming Desktop I built that needs a pretty good upgrade. Then I just have a Pine64+ laying around somewhere..
Yeah a gaming system is something I don't have. Then again, I don't usually game.
i know its a few years late but do you still use Cent OS and world you recommend it in 2020??
You just got a new sub.
What software are you using for mirroring and interacting with your android device?
OnePlus 6 - Me too!! I'll probably have mine for another 4 years too haha
'Contemplating a fourth row'
What number base is that? 😉
It's a passive agressive excuse for justifying a third row.
How could i get terminal like EM? Its pretty nice
Yay we have the same mouse! :)
O man.....You are just genuinely awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!👍👍
Same CPU and amount of RAM here. And it's all for one monitor! ;)
I'm so happy I found you
Ever thought of using a vr headset instead of all those monitors? You can us something like vr os that connects straight to your computer and use all your apps and software on that. I think that's what I'm gonna end up doing at some point.
What DB client do you use? and what is the best free DB client. I am using DBeaver but it has issues.
I honestly thought you'd be the one using Arch, why Xubuntu? Any reason in particular or just because?
The reason would just be that I've been using Ubuntu variants for about 13 years now. I just want my stuff to start up and work.
How do you do Google Drive sync on Linux?
Viejo sos mí ídolo, sería genial que siguieras agregando subtítulos en español. Me gustó demasiado tu canal, saludos desde Guatemala!
No switches for your bonded quad gigabit network?
im not into monitor setup. im curious about rye 192 ram set up. and thats huge.
Hiya, i am trying to learn python on an iMac and i have subscribed to your channel, but the thing that is bugging me right now is what IDE should i use ?? Obviously i want a free one that shows me options as i type and all that other good stuff, i see you use Chrome console, is that something you would recommend to someone using a iMac ? So would i have to download the full Chrome suit including the browser etc ? any help and advice for a beginner is more that appreciated, thanks Engineer Man.
I would suggest PyCharm to start out with. It has a community edition that you can use for free!
The one he was using, Atom, is free. Its a good environment as far as I have seen, but I'm not doing that level of programming.
Brackets is pretty good as well.
Atom, VS Code, PyCharm are all good places to start in my opinion.
The python IDE isn't good enough?????
Do you use something like Rofi to switch windows?
Sweet! I think I can get away with one P-1000, lol!
How much time did it take you to learn all this stuff?
You mentioned mirroring all your files to google cloud coldline. This is something I plan to do. Could you do a video detailing how you implement it?
I just run this every night: gsutil -m rsync -e -r -d -x '.*node_modules/|.*vendor/' /mnt/my_stuff/ gs://my-bucket
What is your streaming set up?
What do you use the VMs for on your server?
I understand numix decorates windows... but what's the window manager?
Now I need more monitors
I have serious tech envy right now.
Please tell me that server doesn't stay on top of the ESD generator blanket!
I like this. If we have several social channels then it's easier to communicate with people
I should do a video of my stuff because it's equally insane but total different because i'm a frontend developer. I run 5 monitors, four 2K 27" and in the middle a 4k 40". And i have another testing computer next by with a 4k 24" and a touchscreen 24" to test Hiresolution/Lowresolution monitor switching. But most importantly i have 4 main computers. One for Windows/Hackintosh/Linux with older 4th generation Intel 1150 CPU's and each 32GB and a huge 64GB 9900K Triple Boot as main system. The three small computers are taking 2 of the 2K systems via KVM and Synergy KVM switch while the main system is whatever platform im mainly developing at that day. I need the switch to other systems to check how stuff is done there, run tests for portability and to watch competitor apps and some tools that only exist on Windows or MacOS. I tried virtual machines for this but if you do graphics and GPU programming a virtual machine is not really what you want for debugging. And the licenses would still cost more then a decent 5 year old workstation from EBay. The next huge update one day will be to remove 3 monitors with a curved 8K 65" main display. Hope they come soon.
What kind of software do you build? That xeon server with 192GB seems pretty unnecessary... One HEDT workstation with i9-7980XE(or new refresh one) would be more then enough you need for just about anything...
I mostly bought it for the CPUs and 10 drive bays. That's average RAM capacity for a server such as this.
@@tonyzamora5529 Oh it's a DDR3... that makes sense now.... DDR4 192gb would cost a fortune alone...
Yeah they aren't. Not including hard drives, I picked up mine on eBay for under $1k shipped.
@@peraZdera88 The going price for DDR3 is about 1.50 Euro per GB at the moment on EBay Germany.
I first had to make sure this video was not released on April 1st.
Hey Engineer Man, is there any particular reason you are not moving to VS Code? I really like Atom myself but i can't deny that VS Code is just better and i moved on.
Could you list the brand and model of your workstation motherboard as I did not see it listed anywhere?
github.com/engineer-man/youtube-code/blob/master/039/tech.txt
thanks man!
😎 I guess the wool shawl under the server is to keep it warm🤔😂
It's moreso to hide the hideous plastic folding table beneath it ;)
