And as a reminder for you literature peeps, here's the death-count since Romeo and Juliet meet:
Mercutio, friend of Romeo and the Montagues by extension.
Tybalt, cousin of Juliet and killed by Romeo for killing Mercutio.
Lady Montague, Romeo's mother who died of heartbreak from Romeo's banishment.
Count Paris, friend of Prince Escalus of Verona, who threatened any further breaches of the peace with death and lowered Romeo's sentence from execution to lifetime banishment. Paris was killed by Romeo in rage.

They made the songs fit in ways i wouldnt even think of. The story and concept was reallys strong. Also for all the history and english nerds out there it has some hilarious jokes surrounding shakespeare and his writing. The feminism and the inclusivity didnt feel forced and the romance(s) was honestly one of the best ive seen in theatre. The overall aesthetic was gorgeous and not as cringey as its made out to be here. Honestly i think it was bloody brilliant and would definetly recommend

You just can’t hold yourself and not sing them or dance along. I knew probably 90% of the music, and to be honest it’s good well written that you will focus on the lyrics and almost forget who wrote it, because it fits amazing with the story. If you go into a jukebox musical looking for something deep as it seems you did then you're automatically not the target audience or even an audience worth trying to reach, no offense.

hi there, in case you haven't already heightened your expectations higher than 6 feet under I'm here to tell you it's actually awesome. The songs are all by the same guy max Martin, the plot is more plausible than mamma Mia (Shakespeare's wife taking the quill and the two of them bickering over which way the story goes) and it's media that gives all its romances an equal weighting, which is something rare.

Can someone please tell me why so many people are getting upset over the fact that is a jukebox musical? While I absolutely adore musicals, I wouldn't consider myself a really big theatre fan, having never been able to see one in person. However, I think the idea of taking pre-exisiting songs and fitting them into the plot of the musical sounds really cool to me. I know that Mamma Mia! did the same thing, but I can't really judge that one since I've never seen it, but I've heard good things about it. So, I guess I don't really understand why there is such an uproar about & Juliet being a jukebox musical.

My stand is this: The musical can work with it being a jukebox, being a Jukebox musical doesn't automatically make you unoriginal or lazy. Probably one of the best examples I've heard of: MOULIN ROUGE. Beautiful musical that was a jukebox, but was incredibly creative in how they used yhe music they did. It was funny at times, and then powerful amd heartfelt. As a bonus, they did have 1-2 original songs (from what I remember, I saw the musical maybe a month ago).
I love the idea of it, but uts not to say I'm not a little suspicious of skeptical. It really depends on what songs they pick and when, but I'm into it

I can understand where people are coming from, saying it’s a bit much, though I think it all together would make a really fun time in the theater. It’s also a pretty interesting concept in general!

So I absolutely love the aesthetic, the cast is amazing, the costumes are great, the set design is fantastic, even the music sounds good, but something feels kinda off to me... From all the promo material and the character profiles for the show it really feels as if it's a feminist message first and a story second.
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with having a feminist message. I mean, the feminism in Six is very prominent and Six is one of my favorite shows. But in Six the feminism is very natural cause it is a show about women in history who have always been done wrong by a man and are only remembered for being wives. So a show turning that around and giving a group of women the spotlight instead of them fighting over a man feels very right.
I have not seen & Juliet so I might be very wrong here, but from all the promo's the feminism feels kinda forced? Like, Romeo & Juliet is a tragic love story about forbidden romance and starcrossed lovers. I always felt as if they were equal in that, not the Romeo show. Sure, it is a story from the 1500s and Juliet is the typical meek beauty type, but the love story is still about two equals. I mean, Romeo kills himself over Juliets ´death´ (which is not a very healthy coping strategy btw). I never got the vibe that Juliet, more so than Romeo, got the short end of the stick. Romeo & Juliet is not Shakespeares most 'female unfriendly' play, for a lack of better words. If they wanted to tacklea Shakespeare story in which the female lead was really done wrong they should have adapted the Taming of the Shrew instead.
The pitch for & Juliet, as they make it sound, is basically that Juliet sees her lover die and thinks 'whoops, time to be a strong empowered woman who don't need no man!' and yeets all of her feelings for her soulmate out of the window. And that feels inappropriate.
Still, I haven't seen the show and I am still excited to see it so it can prove me wrong. Hopefully people who have seen it can tell me if the feminism is neatly and naturally incorporated into the story like in Six. Anyway, the aesthetic gives me life so that counts for something. Okay that was my rant byee

I haven’t seen it yet, nor have I heard much about it, but when I first heard that there was going to be a musical about the ‘what if’, I was really hoping it would be something more along the lines of, like, dealing with a loved one’s suicide. Kind of like Dear Evan Hansen, but through the POV of the people who are actually being affected. I feel like there could be so much more potential to this than just ‘feminism yay’. Then again, I know close to nothing about this musical since I can’t find a summary, so maybe it is better than how the promo portrays it.
