Titan T-3 HD Power Rack vs. Rogue R3 Power Rack (Detailed Comparison)

  • The Titan HD Power Rack is a chinese made clone of the popular and well reviewed American made Rogue R3. Rogue and Westside Barbell collaborated in the creation and production of the rack. Titan, an trailer supply company, copied the design and is importing in from China. I originally purchased the Titan thinking I'd save a few dollars and reinvest it back with Rogue (yes, I was feeling guilty) and purchase a bench, matador, etc. I was pretty disappointed with the quality of the Titan HD and decided to just pony up the extra cash and purchase the R3 which I should have just purchased from the outset.

    Update July 2018 -> So I just ordered a set. the T-3 Yoke which is the same almost a half rack and all the same parts. I would say from what is shown in the video vs what is delivered today in July 2018 is much better. The welds are better, and I even bought the Dip Bar adapter and its pretty amazing. The quality has come up to par for sure and I was worried about the quality b/c I saw this video from 2014. I would say almost everything he's talked about was valid at that time, but now in 2018 Q3 its not. The difference b/w Rogue and Titan is becoming very marginal. Hope this helped. and FYI the powder coat has improved and is really good compared to whats shown in older CZcams reviews.

    Great review. My understanding is Titan has improved the quality over the last couple years. For example I bought the Titan padded j hooks for my Reality Fitness 810 XLT rack and they do now have the better plastic vs rubber for the pads but the welds are still not as good as Rogue. I upgraded my rack recently to the Rogue RML-390C with the 30 in cross members for a bit wider space inside the rack. If you can swing the price, Rogue is definitely a higher quality unit but if spending less for the Titan allows you to get a reasonable rack to safely lift at home it is a nice alternative.

    I think Titan has fixed most of the issues he is complaining about. The one I have has awesome J-Cup padding, good powder coating, is sturdy, and doesn't have the same spotter pipes. I don't have any complaint for the price. I'm not a superstar CrossFit cat like this guy though! I'm just an older powerlifting, wrestling, judo type.

    First of all, you didn't feel bad about the purchase. The whole reason they ship it to China is because it's cheaper to make, even with Customs Duties! If anything, this is a reason to be opposed to all the various government interference that A) steals your money every step of the way and B) artificially inflates the price of the American product because all of them are stolen from every step of the way.

This video highlights all the places where Titan cut corners to deliver a cheaper product. I'm glad this review was done by someone with some building knowledge, because the welds and the hole drillings show how cheap this is. R3 ftw, USA! USA!

    Rogue should give you some free products IMO. Very well done review.
    I was having trouble justifying the price difference despite Rogue being the "Ferrari" of the free weight world - This showed me every detail I could not see for myself.
    Furthermore, it reinforced the name behind a quality American made product from a company that cares about the fact that they produce American products in a time when most of the country is selling out or searching for corners to cut for profit.

    Thanks for the review. You convince me on Rogue products. I spent like 30 hours researching different racks. I was debating on Rogue R4 $1010 2x3 posts vs Fortis 4 $895 3x3 posts. R4 does have Westside spacing and Fortis 4 doesnt, regular 2" spacing. Both have 43" spacing. R4 has 5/8 holes and Fortis 4 has 1" holes. So Fortis 4 accesories are a little bit more expensive.
    I ordered the Rogue Fortis 4 for $895 plus shipping. Its 3x3 post, no westside spacing on it. I bought it bc of the 43" depth. For those who want the Titan HD the depth is only 24" and its $409 on Amazon w/ free shipping. Fortis 4 Rack doesnt look like it has to be bolted down, but if it does ill bolted down.
    The holes are 1" and I like that bc the Safety Strap 2.0 is meant for the Monster Series 1" holes and straps looks easier to use than the Monster Lite Straps meant for 5/8" holes.
    The Fortis 4 comes with the 2 safety pin pipe but I called Rogue and they said I could replace with Safety straps for extra $100. The rack also comes with standard monster J cup but I replaced with Sandwich J cups for extra $110. Sandwich J cups look like they would protect bar a little bit better than standard.
    The Fortis 4 Rack can be upgraded with plate storage for extra $350 and it comes with 8 storage posts. Im going to wait to to buy the extra storage.
    Ive read on reviews that Titan fixed most of the issues but I still went with Rogue.

    great comparison and very thorough review! i have a question for you, i noticed that the holes on the Titan rack were like you said, slightly larger than the rogue rack. Is this the same case for the holes where the pull up bars? is the spacing of the wholes and diameter of them similar on the top portion of the rack?

    • @thesergeant3524
      @thesergeant3524  Před 9 lety +1

      Thanks! Ya, they're the hole size/spacing is the same throughout the rack. I never thought to mention it but it could be an issue if you wanted to use Rogue's multigrip pull-up bar on it. Also the width of the two racks are different, Titan is 42" and Rogue is 43" so you can't use both bars at the same time for additional support like Rogue recommends when adding the multi-grip to a Rogue R3.

    • @broj92
      @broj92 Před 9 lety

      thesergeant funny you mentioned the multigrip, thats exactly what i was thinking about. btw i noticed the issue about the pin/pipe safety were you able to slide the rogue pin/pipe safeties into the titan rack? rogue sells their pin/pipe system for around~$62. might be a good replacement for people who bought the titan rack, if they fit okay haha.

    • @thesergeant3524
      @thesergeant3524  Před 9 lety

      broj92 Ya, I had a feeling that's why you were asking, lol. As for the safeties, I thought about ordering them from Rogue but after shipping and tax it was like $90. I ended up getting the spotter arms instead since they had the UHMW protection, are quick to adjust and expand the potential of the rack. Now I do most work outside of the cage and then move inside it for heavy squats. I like the flexibility.

    I had a couple of questions for you. I'm 6'9" (81 inches) do you think that either of these racks would be big enough for me? I'm hesitant to get either for fear that they might be too small for me. And what bench did you go with? I'm looking for a good bench that is sturdy and allows incline and decline but not finding very many good options. Thanks for the great review.

    • @thesergeant3524
      @thesergeant3524  Před 9 lety

      SvenicusGermainus You might feel a little cramped in it and you won't be able to press in the rack. The pull up bars are like 90" off the ground so your feet will touch. You might want to look into the Rogue S3 which is extra tall squat rack with some spotter arms. Might be a good option for you. I have the Rogue flat utility bench, which I like and also have a Hoist HF-4165 that I really like. There are lots of great options out there for FID benches but be prepared to spend $400+

      matthew sanders you have good point, but even some top powerlifters wouldn’t care what rack they use. Have you seen westside B.B. gym. Their rack are mostly 2x3 and old as hell. They still made gains. Everyone wants the best brands thinking it will yield them an advantage, but it’s what you put into it that determines the results. I want the most bang for my buck. If that means going for the Chinese made rack, then that leaves me more money for other things. What good is a rogue rack if you can’t afford weights or a bar to go with it.
