Titan T-3 HD Power Rack vs. Rogue R3 Power Rack (Detailed Comparison)

- The Titan HD Power Rack is a chinese made clone of the popular and well reviewed American made Rogue R3. Rogue and Westside Barbell collaborated in the creation and production of the rack. Titan, an trailer supply company, copied the design and is importing in from China. I originally purchased the Titan thinking I'd save a few dollars and reinvest it back with Rogue (yes, I was feeling guilty) and purchase a bench, matador, etc. I was pretty disappointed with the quality of the Titan HD and decided to just pony up the extra cash and purchase the R3 which I should have just purchased from the outset.

Update July 2018 -> So I just ordered a set. the T-3 Yoke which is the same almost a half rack and all the same parts. I would say from what is shown in the video vs what is delivered today in July 2018 is much better. The welds are better, and I even bought the Dip Bar adapter and its pretty amazing. The quality has come up to par for sure and I was worried about the quality b/c I saw this video from 2014. I would say almost everything he's talked about was valid at that time, but now in 2018 Q3 its not. The difference b/w Rogue and Titan is becoming very marginal. Hope this helped. and FYI the powder coat has improved and is really good compared to whats shown in older CZcams reviews.
Thank you for taking the time to review this! I showed my husband was looking at the Titan. We will purchase the Rouge because of your review. :)
Rogue should pay you, I was on the fence until I saw this review and it solidified my resolve on spending extra to buy Rogue. I hate buying cheap and then wishing I had bought the name brand thing.
I was just about to pull the trigger on a Titan rack. I'm damn glad I looked for comparisons first. Thanks for the side by side review.
Great review. My understanding is Titan has improved the quality over the last couple years. For example I bought the Titan padded j hooks for my Reality Fitness 810 XLT rack and they do now have the better plastic vs rubber for the pads but the welds are still not as good as Rogue. I upgraded my rack recently to the Rogue RML-390C with the 30 in cross members for a bit wider space inside the rack. If you can swing the price, Rogue is definitely a higher quality unit but if spending less for the Titan allows you to get a reasonable rack to safely lift at home it is a nice alternative.
By far, best review and comparison I've seen since yesterday when I started my research. I was not sure how to justify the extra cash with Rogue until now. And I only needed half way thru the entire video to make up my mind. Good job, man!
I think Titan has fixed most of the issues he is complaining about. The one I have has awesome J-Cup padding, good powder coating, is sturdy, and doesn't have the same spotter pipes. I don't have any complaint for the price. I'm not a superstar CrossFit cat like this guy though! I'm just an older powerlifting, wrestling, judo type.
if you insist on buying American, which is great, check out Strengthshop USA. Don't pay extra just for a name.
Keep defending China junk liberal. I'll keep buying American

Researched racks for weeks, went with Rogue. I hate that it has to be said (because companies don't seem to care enough about it), but customer service at Rogue is outstanding.
I'm just going to chime in here and let it be known that rogues customer service fucking sucked for me...yea yea I see all the rogue groupies raving about their customer service and on their nuts but as for me rogue didn't do shit to help me with a big order so no they are not as great as everyone thinks
Great Video, very well explained and detailed. Thank you....You have done us a great service!
Great review man, I ordered the Rogue R4 with bumpers and accessories, and I can't wait for it to show up. Your video made me glad I stuck with rogue and didn't go to Titan just to save some cash.
Yeah, I was looking at the T3 deep, which to get the Rogue that would be that big it would be the T4. I would love to buy the Rogue, but I have too many wants demanding my $ and not enough $, lol
Hi. I was wondering where you ordered the UHMW plastic covering from. I need to replace the ones on my spotters. Thank you for the review of the squat racks.
This was a very useful video. Thank you. I just wanted to address what you said at the end.
First of all, you didn't feel bad about the purchase. The whole reason they ship it to China is because it's cheaper to make, even with Customs Duties! If anything, this is a reason to be opposed to all the various government interference that A) steals your money every step of the way and B) artificially inflates the price of the American product because all of them are stolen from every step of the way.
you used a rogue spotter arm on the titan to show the misaligned holes
Thank you for taking the time to do this; I'm leaning back to Rogue again, definitely avoiding Titan :)
Wow, mad props to you. I was debating between the Titan full rack w/dip bar for ~$350 and the Cap Barbell Deluxe Power Cage half rack for ~$240. Was leaning towards the CAP but one this is certain, will not purchase anything from Titan.
Wow, great review! I was thinking about the Titan because, hey, it's cheaper. It's my policy to not buy cheap crap that I'm going to have to replace in a few years, but the Titan appeared okay. This video highlights all the places where Titan cut corners to deliver a cheaper product. I'm glad this review was done by someone with some building knowledge, because the welds and the hole drillings show how cheap this is. R3 ftw, USA! USA!
As an American manufacturer we appreciate your demonstrating USA quality!
Awesome vid. I also have OCD when it comes to welds. The $600+ for the Rouge now looks like a damn good deal.
Can i ask ?what size the hole?and size and pin can inside?
what do you think about the widths of the cages? Rogue website says it's 30 inches, T-3 is 36 inches, that's substantial. You're never running around a rack, but you don't want to feel crammed.
really glad I saw your detailed review, I was about to make the mistake to get that cheaper rack. After seeing this my mind is made up to get the Rogue R3 rack. Thank you.
Rogue should give you some free products IMO. Very well done review.
I was having trouble justifying the price difference despite Rogue being the "Ferrari" of the free weight world - This showed me every detail I could not see for myself.
Furthermore, it reinforced the name behind a quality American made product from a company that cares about the fact that they produce American products in a time when most of the country is selling out or searching for corners to cut for profit.
Good stuff man.
Does rogue have black friday sales In EU aswell?
This video was very helpful , I was about to get me a Titan and know I'm gonna just eat sum top ramen a little longer and get a Roque . Thanks a lot .
the new titan design has been updated and no longer has any of these issues. this video is 2 years old
So you are telling if I get this Rig , it's all squared and won't have any issues with it ??
Update July 2018 -> So I just ordered a set. the T-3 Yoke which is the same almost a half rack and all the same parts. Thanks for the review. You convince me on Rogue products. I spent like 30 hours researching different racks. I was debating on Rogue R4 $1010 2x3 posts vs Fortis 4 $895 3x3 posts. R4 does have Westside spacing and Fortis 4 doesnt, regular 2" spacing. Both have 43" spacing. R4 has 5/8 holes and Fortis 4 has 1" holes. So Fortis 4 accesories are a little bit more expensive.
I ordered the Rogue Fortis 4 for $895 plus shipping. Its 3x3 post, no westside spacing on it. I bought it bc of the 43" depth. For those who want the Titan HD the depth is only 24" and its $409 on Amazon w/ free shipping. Fortis 4 Rack doesnt look like it has to be bolted down, but if it does ill bolted down.
The holes are 1" and I like that bc the Safety Strap 2.0 is meant for the Monster Series 1" holes and straps looks easier to use than the Monster Lite Straps meant for 5/8" holes.
The Fortis 4 comes with the 2 safety pin pipe but I called Rogue and they said I could replace with Safety straps for extra $100. The rack also comes with standard monster J cup but I replaced with Sandwich J cups for extra $110. Sandwich J cups look like they would protect bar a little bit better than standard.
The Fortis 4 Rack can be upgraded with plate storage for extra $350 and it comes with 8 storage posts. Im going to wait to to buy the extra storage.
Ive read on reviews that Titan fixed most of the issues but I still went with Rogue.
2006mrderrickh Sounds like you have a killer setup coming your way. Had the Fortis been available when I purchased my rack I might I went in that direction, especially for the updated safety straps. Enjoy it!
great comparison and very thorough review! i have a question for you, i noticed that the holes on the Titan rack were like you said, slightly larger than the rogue rack. Is this the same case for the holes where the pull up bars? is the spacing of the wholes and diameter of them similar on the top portion of the rack?
Thanks! Ya, they're the hole size/spacing is the same throughout the rack. I never thought to mention it but it could be an issue if you wanted to use Rogue's multigrip pull-up bar on it. Also the width of the two racks are different, Titan is 42" and Rogue is 43" so you can't use both bars at the same time for additional support like Rogue recommends when adding the multi-grip to a Rogue R3.
thesergeant funny you mentioned the multigrip, thats exactly what i was thinking about. btw i noticed the issue about the pin/pipe safety were you able to slide the rogue pin/pipe safeties into the titan rack? rogue sells their pin/pipe system for around~$62. might be a good replacement for people who bought the titan rack, if they fit okay haha.
broj92 Ya, I had a feeling that's why you were asking, lol. As for the safeties, I thought about ordering them from Rogue but after shipping and tax it was like $90. I ended up getting the spotter arms instead since they had the UHMW protection, are quick to adjust and expand the potential of the rack. Now I do most work outside of the cage and then move inside it for heavy squats. I like the flexibility.
Do you have any of the UHMW inserts? If not can you tell me where I can find some? Thanks!
Does Titan fitness ship to Europe?
I had a couple of questions for you. I'm 6'9" (81 inches) do you think that either of these racks would be big enough for me? I'm hesitant to get either for fear that they might be too small for me. And what bench did you go with? I'm looking for a good bench that is sturdy and allows incline and decline but not finding very many good options. Thanks for the great review.
SvenicusGermainus You might feel a little cramped in it and you won't be able to press in the rack. The pull up bars are like 90" off the ground so your feet will touch. You might want to look into the Rogue S3 which is extra tall squat rack with some spotter arms. Might be a good option for you. I have the Rogue flat utility bench, which I like and also have a Hoist HF-4165 that I really like. There are lots of great options out there for FID benches but be prepared to spend $400+
thesergeant Hi i need some advice. i plan on buying one of these eventually. Will this be required to bolt into the ground? I'll be installing it in my bedroom which has a carpet.
Thanks
+Roman Ruiz you can buy the stabilizer bar for $50 and it will be stable enough so you won't have to bolt it to the ground
The Titan holes look punch pressed not drilled.
Yeah was going to say the same thing.
in my July 2018 order they are way better and look laser cut and powder coat and welds are way better. I figure these guys deserve a 2018 review update
Thanks for doing this review! My mind's made up, I'm definitely saving for the Rogue. You felt guilty for buying the Titan, as you should, lol but hey at least something good came out of it, this video is a warning to consumers.
Hey nice Adam Turman print on the wall. I have the same one! You must be from MN.
Great review. I'm happy you ended up buying from Rogue even after realizing you bought a piece of junk from China. It's important to support locally made goods, especially when they're made by people who use their own products.
it's not quite as good as the rogue but unless you are planning on being a top powerlifter, I doubt you will notice a difference.
matthew sanders you have good point, but even some top powerlifters wouldn’t care what rack they use. Have you seen westside B.B. gym. Their rack are mostly 2x3 and old as hell. They still made gains. Everyone wants the best brands thinking it will yield them an advantage, but it’s what you put into it that determines the results. I want the most bang for my buck. If that means going for the Chinese made rack, then that leaves me more money for other things. What good is a rogue rack if you can’t afford weights or a bar to go with it.
@leslie alcantara Powertec power rack is proved with 500 kg. Any power rack is ok for every powerlifter...
Great review video brothe.
This review convinced me to get a Rogue instead of Titan. I love the Rogue rack.
Great review
Man this review is helpful.
Great Review! Your bumper plate storage looks awesome! Did you make that? If you did you should make a video on that!
Robert Feliciano Thanks! Ya, I made the plate storage out of a couple of 2x4s and 1.5" oak rods. I might make a second one so when I do I'll make a video. Thanks for the idea!
The Rogue accessories wont fit Titan, but what about Titan accessories on Rogue?
Import vs MADE IN USA
Glad I have a parabody squat rack. Pop pins makes it easy to adjust :). Very basic rack but I'm happy for my first rack plust it was free (craigslist yaay)
Sick review.
I’m glad I can afford Rogue. You get what you pay for and it’s up to each person what they are willing to pay for and thats the bottom line.
Thanks for supporting American businesses.
Thank you for this video. i love quality. i think I'll go with a rogue.
As a non-american, I would buy Rogue anytime. P.S. I'm a proud european.
The holes on the Titan are actually punched out rather than drilled
Thanks for the Video. I will be buying Rogue. It's better in every way and supports US jobs.
i have several Rogue products. Their stuff is top notch.
The titan is just fine... we like to support the U.S but they keep robbing us so they make it difficult at times to support our own when we really want to... and once you add the weight to the titan it's not going anywhere so it's not moving when working out... come on let's get real and not so technical... some gyms u pay a monthly fee for have the cheapest material and that's facts... save and get what ur pockets can afford... it's still going to work the same.
the rogue welds are rusted too
ok,ok,ok .....you talked me outta the titan...great insightful walk through. .
American made all the way!
The Titan rack will hold more weight than any man can lift.
if the American government made tax policy that was friendlier to American businesses, China and other countries would have less ability to copy our products and undercut prices.
You get what you pay for !
get what you pay for
Made in China? Great. Not buying it at all.
