    Interesting hobby - never knew about it. And very pretty flowers. Nice weather and neighbourhood too. Love all those trees. Everything seems so peaceful and sane. Perfect environment for reflection and creation.

    Miniature roses are some of my favorite flowers. Please make more of these videos. I would love to see the ones that make it at the end of the year for example and the ones that you dispose of before you do it. Just like monthly updates on the roses sort of a thing. I find this stuff super fascinating and you are so funny!

    I really like the excitement in this video, it seems like a really fun hobby. Do you have any recommendations for breeds to start out with?

    • @MartyNemko1
      @MartyNemko1  Před 5 lety +4

      Sure. Among roses available at big box stores like Home Depot, try Oso Easy Italian Ice as a female and Flower Carpet PInk Supreme as a male.

      I shell them, soak them for 30 sec in a solution of 10% clorox, 90% water, put them in a most paper towel and then in a plastic bag---one bag per cross. I put it in the fridge for 6 weeks. I check every couple weeks---If it molds, I rinse it off, soak it in the aforementioned mixture for another 15 seconds and back in the fridge.

    I enjoyed you video clip. I’ve played around with hybridizing roses since a high school and worked for a friend who has been making crosses for years. He’s entered a few into the Biltmore trials and has some in other nursery trials but I guess neither of us really know what channels to go through to getting a rose introduced. Do you have any recommendations?

    I took a cutting from a parfume delight rose. What I ended up with is a rose bush that looks nothing like a perfume delight. This new rose has 8 buds like a floribunda and smells so strong of parfume. How does this happen?

    @Marty Nemko @MartyNemko #MartyNemko Do you do any repeat crosses? Any backcrossing? sib crosses? do you breed mini roses with a fragrance trait? Why is it some roses at garden centers smells beautiful but as soon as you grow them; the fragrance is weak or non existent? why? thank you for reading this, I hope I haven't overwhelmed you, I am a bearded iris breeder by the way :D

      I backcross: Using my best OsoEasy Italian Ice seedlings onto Oso Easy Italian Ice. I focus on disease, form, and compactness. If I added fragrance to selection criteria, I'd lose too many of the seedlings that are my primary criteria.

    How to identify a male and a female rose plant ?

    • @MartyNemko1
      @MartyNemko1  Před 4 lety +1

      As I explained, all rose flowers have BOTH the male and female sex organs in it.

    I was listening to this video and enjoying it till you relateded incest to appalachia where I am from. There is no incest in my family. I'm also highly intelligent and know the actual terms of rose parts and I don't confuse them human anatomy. You need to wake up old man...
