Nice review. When I first saw CB750 as the model moniker, brought back memories of riding the first CB750 in the early 70’s. Four pipe model with the removable baffles creating a unique sound in the day when twins ruled the road. Cheers!
Started on a '02 CB600F and I could not have wished for a better first bike as a all rounder. Cheap, reliable and has enough poke to learn a lot from! The 600cc engine puts a massive grin on my face everytime I wind it up.
Hornets will always hold a special place in my heart
Good vid! I like the way you cut to static shots whilst riding and give us some info. So much better than reviews that just ramble on whilst riding.
+1
Glad you think that - I too think it makes for a better video, if trickier for me to make!
Great review of a very well-specked and keenly priced bike. This is what you do best, TMF! Great job.
Much appreciated!
I really enjoyed your new presentation… the video cuts from riding to show and tell… very good
Glad you liked it!
This bike sounds to be a little gem which should not be overlooked &, as per usual, you have nailed this review...
Nice first impressions video Andy. Thank you. No questions from me as you always cover these in you living with one. Great to see the fashion part back as I always watch these. 👍😎🇦🇺
My pleasure - glad you liked it!
Top notch review as always. The bike is a great value proposition, even if the looks are a bit bland -- they're using the same headlight module as on the Transalp/500X/F to keep the cost down. I suspect there will be a CBR750R version of this at some point, too. Some people think Honda bikes are a bit too vanilla, but for me that just means easy to ride and own. Be safe!
A CBR750R (Interceptor) sounds great to me. But they should find another 10-20 hp from the engine. 90-120hp is a great place for a sport bike on the road.
Nice to see it shod with some proper tyres! Which can make all the difference to how a bike feels and the confidence that they give is priceless
Seriously ! I just changed my Z650 tyres from the stock Dunlops and my goodness what a difference the new tyres are. They aren't even as good as the Road 5 (I got the older Pirelli Angel ST) but they are leagues better than my old Dunlops. Manufacturers shouldn't compromise on the tyres
Great show as always, thanks very much 😊.
Honda, like Yamaha and Triumph, developed this engine or platform with several different models in mind and I must say they did a fantastic job. With the Transalp and Hornet released recently they offer two very affordable no-nonsense bikes targeting quite different groups of riders and it seems they respond well. Great move Honda. For me both bikes do not attract me very much, but if rumours come true, a retro style naked and a scrambler will follow and they could arouse my interest. 👍🏼
Oh wow, we have not gotten this in the US yet. You're the first I've seen to review! Fantastic
Great review. I'm more interested in the Transalp that uses tye same engine due to the ergonomics of that bike, and the fact that it is so much lighter than many adventure style bikes capable of distance work with a pillion. My hopes are high that this will be good too, though wish it was available with road wheels and tyres.
Definitely a bike I would be looking at. One I hadn't even considered, but the tour pack version looks ideal for me, and for that price, you'd have to give it a look over.
Great review, I wonder if it is coming over too Canada. Thanks again and ride safe Andy
As Gary said below moving to a Hornet might be considered a downgrade for me, but, 91hp and enough torque, light weight, sensible seat, just enough tech and a flipping knockout price, it will be a serious contender for many buying groups not just A2+! At that price, you can add the luggage, a small screen, heated grips etc. Want you to arrange a back to back with the Suzuki GSX8 though as that looks pretty damned good too.
I don’t understand why people talk about down grading tbh. It is just another bike/ a different bike 🤷♂️. It also depends on what you want from a bike. If you want to go fast and do some track days you buy a sports bike, but is it down grading if you then buy a commuter bike when your life changes? I don’t think so. It is simply different, not better or worse. 👍
Both bikes mentioned prove how we get ripped off for their ADV variants, Suzuki for me,torque is further down the rev range, on both models!
I'm a Honda rider and a fan of their bikes generally, but what really strikes me about the CB750 is just how overly bland it is. There is no real design language beyond 'committee approved' by a brief that included 'inoffensive', 'approachable', and perhaps 'urban'. Great review as usual TMF, thanks!
Yes I agree the design is a little "meh"
The camera work was rather good and in particular the way we could see everything behind very clearly in the mirrors. This was a well done review. Can’t wait to see that bike in person, that and the new Suzuki competitor as well.
Awesome, thank you!
Good to see you talking about your kit, be good to see what you think of Zerofit thermal base layers 👍
I took the plunge and ordered this as my first big bike, coming from the CB125R. Was a bit nervous about going for an untested bike but you have just put my mind at rest, thanks! Great review and I'll be following for more hornet stuff
You'll love it David - rest easy and enjoy!
Great review as always, Andy! I ride a 1998 Honda Hornet 600F, 16'' front wheel, twin exhaust, no electronic gadgets, no fuel gauge ( am old school ) and she makes me smile with every ride and is a lot of fun with plenty of torque! I do have to say, I do like the old looks much better and with its wide seat I'm very comfy with my 19 stone, 6'5'' frame. All the best and safe ride!!
I've got a hornet 600s 2003, 54k miles still going strong . Great bikes.
@@monkeydust100 Agree! very reliable and easy to work with. All the best!
Yes, the old style Hornet is a much better looking more individual machine. I remember seeing the 250 4 cylinder Hornet being brought in as a used grey import by Batts Motorcycles warehouse at Biggin Hill Airport, (i worked next door) and thought what an amazing looking bike they were back then.
Wrthe f you found a 16 front wheel at hornet??? Last 16" was at 92 fireblade 🤔
@@manitolas Hey! Yup, the early Hornets all came with a 16" front, until they changed to 17" by early 2000 I believe, correct me if I'm wrong. You def have to watch yourself going into corners because you might lose your front very quickly and the only tyres available with 16"front are the Bridgestone Battleax that were designated for the first Hornets coming out the factory.
Thanks Mr. Flyer, It seems I chose a great time to pop back to your channel. I wasn't aware of this bike but very much like what I see and hear from you. I would definitely add this to my list of potential future purchases (especially the touring version) I look forward to future coverage. Additionally as always great riding gear, very practical but stylish. I'm glad you are still doing your "fashion segment". :>)
Glad to hear that!
Great work sir, some of us are very excited about this bike and appreciate your view. Looking forward to the living with vid
Stay tuned David - give me a week or two!!
Great one mr Flyer!
I guess this bike is in many ways similar to the CB650R in terms of fork, brakes and suspension. Which are all well. I had one a couple of years ago, and I noticed that the surface on the wheels were quite "soft". After 20 000km there were several scratches and holes through the surface from stones, and especially at the rear wheel, marks from my lock. It was a chainlock in soft fabric. I did my best not to scratch...but there were marks all over. I ended up painting the wheels.
Now, I don't suggest you go on with a screwdriver just to test! But keep an eye on those wheels! Cheers!
Would definitely want to have a proper look at it, from magazines it just looked like a SV650 imposter but your review has sold me on a test ride!
Hope you enjoy it!
Great video! Ive been waiting soo long for a first ride video
More to come!
Impressive machine, it caught my attention at the bike show when I found out the price and it was a bit of a show highlight for me.
A bike I would consider buying. Thanks for a great review-as usual!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for a great review. Helps a lot. Thinking on getting the cb750 hornet coming from an cb500f :)
The TFT looks very clean
Love your videos! Will be interesting to see how it compares to the new Suzuki GSX-8S
That red frame reminds me of the old VT 250 from the 80's!
Thanks for a great review. For folks looking for their first big bike, there’s an embarrassment of choice, and for me this one is near the top of the list. Thanks again.
Can't say I care much for the look..seems a bit transformer-ish to me but besides that I think Honda has hit it out of the park! Power, features and especially price......very good!
Looking forward to tour additional reviews and comments..Cheers!
Some of the bikes look like some sort of bug similar to a grasshopper. This is what the young designers grew up watching in TV cartoons. I still like the bike's overall characteristics
That price is fantastic! Really liked the looks of the yellow one. I'm also curious about the Transalp ,which I believe uses the same motor.
It does!
the elephant in the room to me is that the world moving from inline 4 to 2 cyl paralels :(
I agree with you there! Not enough variety in the engine types these days, V twins & V 4's are dying out now and I know it's down to costs and emissions, but i 'd love for Honda to do a triple engine for a change, that would have spiced their range up a little.
Kawasaki's new zxr400 is an inline 4 cylinder. Should be good.
Enjoyed that review! Always nice to hear common sense rather than "It's not good for dragging knees and shoulders thru the corners". Haven't had a Honda in awhile, might be time? Last Honda, dating myself, was The CX Guzzi Copy. Be very interested in your take on The New Mandello. Was hoping you'd mention that jacket.
Thanks for watching!
Great review Andy, got a fair bit of crud over it for such a short ride should keep you busy with the jet wash & sponge.
You got that right!
Passed my test in 2012 and first bike was a 2 year old Hornet 600, think that model looked nicer and of course an inline four, but must admit the newbie sounds great value for money, although for 7k I'd get a 3 year old Street triple or MT09. Cheers Andy great review. Segura Nacho looks good.
Cheers Dave!
I bought a Honda CB 500 F last year and took my drivers license (A) and in the end of the year I preoredered this bike in the black and red color. I think I will like it a lot after coming from the 500 F :) Looking forward for more 750 Hornet riding from you
Still have my500f, doing my A soon.
But I really don't know if I need the extra brap, the sound characteristic is the only thing interesting to me about this one.
If they released a cbr, with a 180 rear tire I think I would look into it, but then they also sell the cbr650r.
@@Daniel-dj7fh why do you want a 180 rear tire? It won’t be as agile with a 180 compared to the 160
This bike like many of today's motorcycles needs a longer front fender. Those headers will be toast after one winter season. If I lived in the UK I'd be hesitant for tail tidy after all the huge UK license plate is humongous. 😁😁
Thanks for the review.
Finally a good 750 from Honda. Would love to see a Rebel 750 with this engine. I'd put it on the top of my list.
Ordered mine in the same colour as one you’re riding + a quick shifter, looking forward to collecting in early March
Congratulations!
Good effort this week Andy, i think that’s 3 videos so far! I sense spring in the air
...another coming first thing tomorrow!
There was space to improve the view in the right hand mirror by moving the bracket on the handlebar closer to the switchgear. Left hand mirror bracket is up against the switchgear so it’s as good as it can be. Careless setting up/PDI by the dealer.
I had a 1998 Hornet many many moons ago.
Turned on a sixpence.
The absolute best fun I ever had on two wheels.
I was hoping you’d be reviewing the Hornet. It’s definitely a bike I’m interested in. Hopefully we’ll get it soon here in the U.S. Thanks for the video!
2011 Hornet owner....love my bike bought from new......first review of the new iteration ive seen...look forward to the review
I have had a pair of these PMJ's for a a couple of summers and they are great.
I really like the look of the Hornet. Enjoyed this review as well.
I'm really impressed with this bike! I have the 2nd generation Hornet (09 reg) and I love it as a first big bike! More than welcome to review it Andy if you wanted to. 😁 But looking at what Honda has done to Hornet by making it "another P-Twin" but making it well priced and very competitive with tech and capacity. Would definitely choose this over the competition.
Excellent review as always, thank you
Another comprehensive, well done review. Thanks for that. I'm not a fan of the angular styling, other than that, I like it.
Hmm looks really good Andy! Mines arriving shortly 😎
Enjoy John - Lightweight and fun little thing - suspension may be an issue for you though being a, ahem, larger gentleman I'd be interested to see how it fairs....felt quite soft with me aboard. I'm out on this one again this afternoon filming further segments for my in depth review.....not everything about the bike is perfect!
After 50 bikes and 50 yrsvof riding I went and tried one of these. Ordered one straight away, thanks for a great review. Anyone interested I a triumph Speedmaster, great condition 😂.
Another great review. Never owned a Honda. The look isn't for me but maybe a spin might be in order. Like the jacket, be looking in to that. Thank you👍
As a shorter female rider I'm definitely interested in this as my next bike. I currently ride a lowered Yamaha MT07, but I'd really like to see that riding position in more detail - even you sat static on the bike with your feet up so we can see your back/arm/knee position would be good, please.
Really looking forward to this bike coming to the US! In your subsequent reviews, I’d love to hear how you think it’d do on the occasional track day. Seems like a great all rounder and fairly sporty!
90bhp and top speed 127mph so should be fun but not the fastest
@@glenns001 Got the cb500f, pretty much the same bike with 48hp and little less tech.
It's so much fun I really don't know if I want the hornet or the cbr650r because of their better sound characteristics.
If Honda popped a 270° crank in the 500, I'm swapping mine for a new one instantly.
Good review as usual, looks like the hornet will be a good seller. It seems that a lot riders are getting fed up with all the tech on bikes these days, I know I am it’s a case of less is more, less tech more fun 😊
Totally agree
Very tempted by this as I move into big bikes. The price is something you can't ignore.
Nice review Andy, been waiting for you to get on the hornet. I hope you don’t find something bad haha. It looks great with so much standard stuff that you don’t get on the competitors.
I would for you to show us that tft screen whilst your in the garage so we can see the different functions etc and also, what is the real world mpg from that lovely 750 engine 👍🏻
Noted - cheers!
Hi Andy, Thanks for another great review of a bike I wouldn't have thought about before seeing your review, it was good to see you weren't held up at all by any poor people in their Evoque's.
Don't start!
😂 nice one PE. Hopefully they’ve gone off to start their own YT channel called Sense of Humour Bypass…
Waiting on the Transalp sometime this year. In USA Maybe never. Who knows. Good review mate
Nice first impressions vid & I think you're first to this. Kudos. It seems like a very decent offering & is a hell of a lot of bike for the money but I'm struggling with the looks as it just seems so bland imo. I think I'd find it really hard to get excited about actually buying one because of it but I shall reserve judgement until I see one in real life. I'm also very interested to see the next installment.
Stay tuned - coming in a couple of weeks once I've had time to properly get to know her.....
Excellent review. I hope you get to review the new Transalp soon too, though the spoked tubed wheels on that are a real deal breaker for me.
Yes looking forward to the Transalp!
Thanks for the great vid.
I had a hornet 600s a while back great bike handled well ,fast enough sounded great ( remus exhaust), looks like Honda have done the same with this one, personally I am not keen on the wasp face headlight but would still ride one Honda make great bikes!
Great review Andy, I'm sort of OK with this Hornet, but compared to Honda's classic 750's over the years it doesn't make me overly excited, sign of the times I guess 🙄.
Props to you for being the first. I literally can’t even see one of there in my local Honda shop.
It’s all about who you know!
Great review. Maybe you can compare this bike to the CB650R. I know its a different engine, inline4 but more about handling, comfort and usability. I prefer the look of the CB650R and ofcourse the sound but other than that, not sure. I’m 6,3 tall so i’m not sure which one suit me the best. Do mostly street/town comuting riding. Thanks again
A really great review on such an eagerly awaited bike, I'm sure Honda will be using that engine across multiple platforms. I'd be keen to hear you view on its fuelling smoothness in low speed traffic please, thankyou.
In the next video!
Great review (as usual)!
I appreciate that - thank you Dan!
hi! thanks for the review! looking to buy this bike... i was kind of nervous watching the wet asphalt... how was it in tight corners? i've read stuff like it has a snappy throttle and i'm wondering if it'd be slipping in corners etc. i own a ktm lc4 atm and it handles all terrain like nothing else... this is going to be a weird change for me! also wondering about that rear 160/60 tire, how does that handle? how about fuel consumption? looking forward to the second review! ps: I loooove how he bike looks. LOL! cheers!
Good review Andy. For the "what's it's like to live with" video, I would like to know what vibes there are at different revs. Many of the twins have vibes through the pegs, bars or saddle. Some say characterful but not good for me, mentioning no makes 😁 cheers
Noted!
Hi Andy, if you think the new Hornet is good try and get a ride on an original 600 with the slightly detuned CBR 4 cylinder engine. Revving to a 13000 rpm red line, when the revs hit 8000 it was like hitting a hyperspace button. I owned one back in 2000, the early 16” wheel model that was quicker to turn in and had more power than the later bikes (94bhp). They were a fantastic fun machine that didn’t cost a fortune, and were quicker and better handling than the Suzuki Bandit 600.
Great review : always interesting to hear your POV,. Can you ever really beat a round headlight ? I just dont like these power ranger front ends just saying
Great bike from Honda and looking forward to more vids on it Andy keep up the great channel 👍
Thanks...
It would be nice to see this engine on the NC750 :) Nice bike, thanks for reviewing it.
Looks nice I like it and great features.. well done Honda 👍🤩🏅
This is a nice bike. I have a 4 cylinder bike but do like the modern 270 p-twins. This Honda really wins on price/value - and I think will be a success on that alone
Hi Bob how are you 😊
@@mariarusso1155 ok, that's a strange question but yeah i'm doing ok thanks
@@Bob-tq2jv I hope you’re not offended Bob? Just looking for a new friend and I came across your pic here.
@@mariarusso1155 i'm not interested or offended but my lady might be. Thanks anyway. No offence, but you're either desperate or a scammer - or maybe both. There are plenty of dating apps out there for you. Best of luck. This is a motorbike page, not a dating forum
Yes! Here we go looking forward to this one!
Hope you like it!
Another great review. I've been looking forward to you trying this bike. At £7k for such a complete package, I think these will sell in big numbers. In fact, my local dealership had already sold their allocation for this year. I'm a little disappointed that Honda had priced the new Transalp at £9500, bearing in mind it's a mechanically similar bike and they share a lot of parts. It's hard to see where the extra £2500 comes from. The salesman I spoke to said they were hoping it was going to be between £8k and £8,500 in view of the price of the hornet. This bike is an absolute bargain.
Yes I agree...
Been saying the same about the new Suzuki vstrom 800 as well, just a rip off, both Transalp and the 800DE should have been around £8500
Adventure bike premium tax
Very informative review, thanks. I wanted to see it ridden around lanes on damp roads. On your walk arounds, I noticed the bike was totally mud splattered, front and back. The radiator and shock were covered in mud. Are the mudguards no good? On a day like that I wouldn't want to be doing a major clean.
Indeed - it does cover itself in crud! Rode it in the rain today - I got covered up my back too!
I've been waiting for this review 👍🏼
Hope you like it!
@TheMissendenFlyer Fantastic review as always. Really helpful. Appreciate it.
Hi there
Great real world review as ever Thanks
OK question how does it compare to the Trident and KTM 790.
I'm already invested in one of these, hopefully delivery on 1st March!
One comment though, why don't Honda protect the rear shock! Shame
My neigbour, riding buddy has one, great deal and he keeps up with my SDR quite nicely, excellent engine
Great review and thanks again for taking the time to do the review.
Does information on the screen have a gear indicator? Would you also think if a small screen would fit on the front to stop rubbish kicking up behind the tft like MT-07?
Yes it does have a gear indicator....
Great review as always Mr Flyer 👍🏻
Thank you kindly!
Hello. Appreciate the video. Is it possible to mention top speed and 0-60 time on the reviews? Just gives an idea of what performance to expect.
Service intervals valves etc
Andy, you spent the whole road test. of the Hornet riding in the dirtiest part of the road, and even cornered and brake tested there .I would have ridden in the clean track cars have left inside the white line. Most of the salt is still lying there also. I enjoy your videos so stay safe.Richard Cottingham.
that would look nice in the tri color scheme Andy great price nice little video 👍👍
Thanks 👍 ...and I agree!
How does that engine feel?
I have a phobia of parallel twins caused mainly by turgid 250 and 400 Dream/Superdream Winter hacks.
I hope they sell a lot of them. In turn, I hope they come out with a contender for the Hayabusa / ZX14, a revamped Blackbird would be so fantastic!
Great review
Like the fact that it's a 750 parallel twin. If they made it in a 70s-80's UJM styled bike I would definitely be interested.
I agree from Australia.
Some questions for you Andy seeing as you asked 🙂. 1️⃣ How is it for a pillion? Obviously that’s not what it’s really for with the tiny seat high up but it would be interesting to know. 2️⃣ Also, what real-world fuel economy and range did you get over your week with it? 3️⃣ It’s not built for touring but how do you think it would fare on a long (several weeks) tour? Thanks! 👍
All noted - thank you...
I've just ordered a Transalp so this review was of interest to me. Given that engine and chassis is the same I think I've made the right choice.
I think you very likely have!
If i could have more than one bike I'd like this for sunny days commuting, decent package for the price!
Great bike for new riders on a budget!
Hi Andy,
Great review! Near the start you mentioned a screen for the bike, but the model you are riding isn't fitted with one. What can you tell us about the screen or screens which are available for this Hornet please?
All the best
Not a lot - I think there's a small bikini type fairing come screen in one of those add-on packs....
I think a lot of people will be watching this one.....
I hope so!!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Was waiting dear boy. Your reviews are great. About to look at a Tracer 7! So perfect timing. So a yellow hornet 750 in Carlisle tuther day!
Getting on for 5000 viewings after 2 hours so looking god
...it's cos I sneakily published this at a peak viewing time...but still not bad going.
I’m tempted by the new transalp but NO cruse control , have a 2020 500x and a bmw f800gt so was hopefully going to combine the two , tried the Bmw 750 gs but was disappointed looks like it’s going to be a used triumph tiger 800. But want a decent road test first . Really enjoying the channel
Back in "69 I was racing for and working at a dealer and I got the first CB750 to arrive there. I LOVED that bike, as I had been riding Norton on the street then. The Honda was a revelation - so much bike for so little money - and it seems that Honda Powersports has continued to offer a bike with the world's best value, and performance for the dollar. It's just too bad for me, seeking a new ride this year, that Honda has decided to not sell it here in North America this year. I suppose they just won't be able to supply North America as well as Europe and Asia with how high the demand is expected to be. And, as I don't want to wait another year (I haven't ridden since before Covid, when I sold my V4 Honda Interceptor), I'll be looking at another brand's offerings. I love the look of the Speed Twin, so it will get a good look over. Keep riding safe!
Is that what's happening. We don't get it this year. I've been annoyed that it seemed to be taking so long for them to release it. The GSX-8s, I see is already out in North America.
I shall probably buy the bike (yellow). If I do, I'll convert a bin bag to put over that appalling headlight so I won't look at it by accident. It's not the best looker overall, you're correct - about as inspiring as the 500s - which are also v good bikes.
