- The Supremes singing Where did Our Love Go
Lead-Diana Ross
Background- Florence Ballard & Mary Wilson
Lyrics:
Baby, baby
Baby don't leave me
Ooh, please don't leave me
All by myself
I've got this yearning, burning
Yearning feelin' inside me
Ooh, deep inside me
And it hurts so bad
You came into my heart
So tenderly
With a burning love
That stings like a bee
Now that I surrender
So helplessly
You now wanna leave
Ooh, you wanna leave me
Ooh, baby, baby
Where did our love go?
Ooh, don't you want me
Don't you want me no more
Ooh, baby
Baby, baby
Where did our love go
And all your promisses
Of a love forever more
I've got this yearning, burning
Yearning feelin' inside me
Ooh, deep inside me
And it hurts so bad
Before you won my heart
You were a perfect guy
But now that you got me
You wanna leave me behind
Baby, baby, ooh baby
Baby, baby don't leave me
Ooh, please don't leave me
All by myself
Ooh, baby, baby
Where did our love go? - Hudba

RIP Mary Wilson. 💛
This is the song that set them off! From that point on, the Supremes were unstoppable.
this song is so awesome:) why can't modern music be this cool
This song leaves some great memories. God bless The Supremes.
I am 64, but I still vividly remember climbing onto my school bus one afternoon in 1964 and hearing a transistor radio in the back playing this song. It was so terrific and so distinctive that it stopped me in my 14 year old tracks. It still does. It began the group's famous "five #1s in a row" streak, and it earned for them a fan for life. Motown produced the greatest music ever, in my opinion, but among all those great artists and songs, Diana Ross and the Supremes were -- and still are -- special for me. They had style, charm, talent, and with this song, they began a historic journey that would ultimately lead to the breaking down of a number of racial barriers. One of the most significant was a barrier that impacted every Black entertainer up to then. However talented, those entertainers still faced limited prospects. But, after becoming a star as a Supreme, Ms. Ross departed for a solo career, and became the first Black artist ever to be booked into the world's largest venues and paid the same salary (or more) as the top white artists. Delivering the goods, she produced sell-out crowds at every stop -- time and again -- and proved that the universality of music could overcome prejudice and discrimination. Once Ms. Ross broke through the barrier, those venues began seeking out other Black artists to add to their schedules, and they have never looked back.
Sometimes we forget that America was a very different place in 1964 when "Where Did Our Love Go" zoomed to the top of the charts. There were still so many things to overcome. It is different now, thank heavens, but no one should ever forget that without anyone realizing it at the time, music was already playing an important role in that transformation. This little song -- terrific in every way -- caught people's attention and helped create new stars, and those stars did more than their share to bring about our cultural change.
They were Fabulous
im 50 yr old and i was born 65 I listen to diana rooss back in the end of 70 i was 14 yr old thank u sir 4 your coment
Kenneth Hamlett All I can say is that Ross was a "go-getter"...is why she became the lead-singer and then the solo career. But i never really appreciated her shark-like personality.
Men with ambition are admired and considered to be strong, determined, and capable. Women with ambition are always considered to be "shark-like," bitches, emasculating and calculating. We seem unable still to escape the adolescent conditioning that leads us to forever view accomplishments through a gender-specific screen that is never fair to women. Ask Barbra Streisand, Taylor Swift, or any other really successful female entertainer, any female politician from either party (who strangely face questions about whether they are taking care of their husbands or spending enough time with their children -- questions never asked male politicians), and female CEOs,, and they will all confirm that women are held to completely different standards than men, even when they are engaged in the same pursuits.
Paul McCartney and John Lennon sued each other regularly, made derogatory remarks about each other, their music releases and their choices of wives and girlfriends as they competed to outdo the other. But, they were never given labels like "bitch" or "shark." Through all of their shenanigans, they remained beloved. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel came to dislike one another, and each wanted to be seen as the main contributor to their success. But, we overlooked the animosity and ambition and just loved their music.
On the other hand, women -- including Ms. Ross -- are still treated very differently. A few months ago, I watched as Ms. Ross presented an award to Taylor Swift on a TV program. It was clear that Ms. Swift was thrilled to receive the award from such a legendary performer, and as she began her speech, she acknowledged that and said "you were fighting battles on our behalf before many of us were born, and we are grateful to you for doing that." Nevertheless, some still see the female participants in those battles as resembling sharks, and that is a shame. It is an even bigger shame that this was the case in the 1960s and it is still the case in 2015. It says far more about our level of cultural maturity and sense of fairness than it does about anything related to the ambition of Diana Ross -- ambition she had every right to pursue -- or anything else.
Well said! I'm 16, however, from a young age I've adored older music such as this or before. My parents were born in 1960 & 1967, which I personally believe, helped cultivate the love I have for older music. It really with no exaggeration transcends time!
Cheers to one of the greatest songs ever: I LOVE MOTOWN!
My favorite song of all time. I remember this merry-go-round truck came down my street and it was playing this song. I was between first and second grade when this song first came out. I just love the Supremes!

Even as a kid, I thought they were so neat and pretty performing, and their songs were so memorable.
We had it so good!
This may sound crazy, but whenever my very favorite actress and the idol of my youth was on TV, especially on her dahling Merv Griffin's talk show, this is the very first song that I would blast at the same time; followed by some of the other Supremes' songs as well!
I listen this right now
Awesome
2020 the Supremes put lots of swag in this one!!!
i remember early 2000s i preformed this song with my group at a rec center in all white with a bun, and I honestly had been looking for that song ever sense, it took me like 18 years to find this song
best pop song ever written and when the piano misses a beat after the solo then picks it up magic love and peace j vincent edwards
Thanks, folks, for a great track. The best girl band ever! (Go-go's fans aside) The great Motor Town Supremes were initially led vocally by the great Florence Ballard. As you can hear on this great initial track, Berry had decide to subjugate her voice into the background, as Diana was deigned to be lead vocalist. But if you really listen hard, Florence was the vocalist of record. Reido
First heard song in L.A.Calif. on vacation, guess I was about 19 wow
Bellissima canzone. bella musica. viva gli anni 60

None of the Supremes liked this song when it was presented to them. They didn't want to sing it. Little did they know at the time that this was the song that was the beginning of their legacy, which would forever catapult them into superstar history.
