In the entire Republic Day Parade, there were 2 instances of both husbands and wives leading their respective regiments - the Madras Regiment that was led by a Major, his wife was leading the all woman Tri Services Regiment. Similarly, the Sikh Regiment that was led by a Major, his wife was leading the Indian Coast Guard Regiment.

In Indian armed forces, male & female, recruitments are never done on a regional basis. Every branch of the armed forces has representation of different regions of the country. In any regiment whether Sikh or Kumaun or Bihar or Maratha etc consists of soldiers and officers from all the regions of the country.
NSS & NCC girls cadets here are all High school & College going girls, last year meri friend (who has done ncc herself) ki ncc friend/teammate bhi iss repulic day parade ke liye select hui & bhaag liya tha in parade there at rajpath.

No these contingents are from 3 different fields, armed forces, para military forces, and school colleges(NCC &NSS). All three have country wide presence and are picked up from all over india based on their past performances and if they are volunteering for this parade.
Any country to attain full development, it cannot leave 50% of their population (women) and develop. If Nari Shakthi is fully used and contributing to the nation building, a country can prosper in all spheres.
