    • @Rockhound6165
      @Rockhound6165 Před 5 lety +4

      Um, they are independent contractors. That's why they have, you know, contracts. This isn't 1980 where wrestlers, especially the mid to low carders, were making peanuts compared to today. These guys can pay for their own travel, expenses, and health coverage(all of which would be tax deductible).

    • @Rockhound6165

    I'm not defending Ryback, but this is a very watered down version of his complaint. What he was reported to have said is that because wrestlers don't have the power to determine their wins and losses or where they are on the card, that it's not fair to be paid based on that. He wanted lower card guys to be have a fairer salary as they're putting their bodies on the line the same as the headliners.

    • @AmariieMaerthos

      Exactly

    • @exploderwrestlingpodcast2721
      @exploderwrestlingpodcast2721 Před 5 lety +15

      But ultimately, this is nonsense. Wrestlers should have higher pay because they don't determine where they are on the card? Go into work tomorrow and tell your boss you should make more money because you don't get to determine what job you get to do. Go ahead, try.
      Contracts are negotiated, guys lower on the card make less money (which is still higher than they used to make in the early 90s), guys higher on the card make more. You think Shawn Michaels made the same money in 1997 that he made in 1990? Of course not.

    • @thejetstarjump
      @thejetstarjump Před 5 lety +16

      Daniel Fraley Okay, but in my job I'm not being thrown around and risking not being able to walk when I'm older. Are you saying that because you can't get a raise in your day to day life then Ryback shouldn't point out an unfair pay issue? Lower and upper card guys are positioned for a variety of reasons, but one of them is promoters make the call who wins and looks stronger. Ryback said that it's not fair to be paid less because someone else decides he's lower on the card when he's taking the same damage and risks everyone else is.

    • @exploderwrestlingpodcast2721
      @exploderwrestlingpodcast2721 Před 5 lety +5

      But if Zack Ryder and Roman Reigns both went down with an inury at the same time, which one do you think would have a bigger impact on shows/angles/pay per views? That alone shows a disparity between talents.
      Same reason LeBron James and some lesser known guard don't make the same money. "But they both play the same game". See how it sounds in context?

    • @thejetstarjump
      @thejetstarjump Před 5 lety +18

      Daniel Fraley But this isn't a real sport. It's fixed. A booker/promoter has decided Roman Reigns is more important than Zack Ryder. And now Roman's a millionaire because of that choice even though Ryder is putting his body on the line the same. You can make as many sport or real world comparisons as you like but wrestling is the only one that DECIDES who wins and loses which is why Ryback was upset. Have Ryder go over Undertaker at Wrestlemania and suddenly he's just as important as Reigns and because of this decision is suddenly being paid so very much more. That's what is not fair, his salary is at the whim of other people.

      Except Bret didn't refuse to lose to Shawn Michaels in his hometown because Bret's hometown is Calgary, Alberta and Survivor Series 1997 took in place Montreal, Quebec. And if you're thinking of the Canadian Stampede PPV that did take place in Bret's hometown, there was no refusal to lose to Shawn there either because Bret wasn't facing Shawn at that PPV; Hell, Shawn wasn't even booked for that Canadian Stampede PPV.
      As you rightfully pointed out, Bret's refusal to lose to Shawn had nothing to do with the fact that it was in Canada and everything to do with the fact that Shawn was just being Shawn.

Otherwise you are going to have a whole arena disappointed that the big Canadian name loses at home. Think of how you feel when your favourite team loses at home? It sucks because thats the game you could see. Even if you aren't a fan of him, which I am not/was no at the time but appreciated him, I still didn't want to see him lose at home. I heard how Bret wanted to end it, in a no-contest, and that would suck.
      If I am paying for a PPV (remember there was no Network then, so you paid $50 a pop for a single PPV) you better give me a damn winner, and someone had better go over.
      Bret should have just done the job, then he could claim the high moral ground more. But he sunk to HBK's level by refusing to do the job.

Shawn outright said he would never put Bret over, and Bret showed up every single day for work and never took a day off for the company. Could not say the same for Shawn. He had contract rights for creative control over his character, so his demand was 100% reasonable. @TJ52359 Před 5 lety

      at the same time if a given Wrestler only works 4 matches a year (and maybe does a hand full of appearances to promote said dates, how would WWE realistically monitor them?
      - set the test Date too close to the Event and you risk a 'card subject to change'...
      - set the test too early and you're controlling their life away from work
      - Scheduling a Test in the first place essentially negates the randomness
      and in the case of point 2, do you really want that slippery slope to end at the door of your Work Place (imagine having to take a Breathalyzer on Friday Night to 'Prove' you'll show up Sober on Monday Morning at a Temp Job?)
      and how would an all inclusive policy affect guys like Rock or Foley who make non-wrestling appearances

    • @thekydragon

      Tim Janssen I don’t agree with the policy, but what I‘m saying is that this isn’t a Brock Lesnar perk. This is a part-timers perk. Triple H definitely isn’t getting tested and neither is Vince. If USADA hadn’t caught Lesnar, that provision would still be in the Wellness Policy, but few would probably know about it.
