      I agree with a lot things Marquett said but he needs to understand that not everyone who has skills set to create a job there will always be people on production line so when we talk about wage raise is about to make sure that those people on production line may have a valid standard of living if this guy is really genius should understand that people like Friedrich Engels didn’t stood for nothing. No one is saying a employer must have same earning as employee , all we are saying is employee should be paid to the level they can afford price market . And if u bring this shitty idea of why people settle for minimum wage , 7 weeks of grave could send America into chaos , if all production line workers decides to refuse to go to work for one week , u can’t have milk in fridge , vegetable , potatoes , meats ..in next week and on that exact moment u can realize what we are talking about . Yes we understand that every man /woman has to have that mindset of let me settle but I will prevail and create my own business but for a million reason not everyone who achieves it , and that’s ok .

      @@kdavis6318 - My brother your missing Marquett's point entirely. The conversation was about minimum wage, understanding first off the word implies a floor...MINIMUM. This in itself should be a catalyst for low wage earners to aspire for more than just settling for a "MINIMUM WAGE" when there's a massive global marketplace for you to explore financial advancement.
      The problem with many low wage workers is that they settle, and that's fine if you truly will accept the consequence for settling. But here's where the problem comes in...Whenever SOME low wage worker that decided to settle for being an employee and part of the labor force sees the acquired assets and privileged lifestyle that business owners and high yield earners ascertain for themselves, that's where ENVY rears its ugly head. Because if it was just about selft sustainment to live a meager life, then low wage Americans would acknowledge the reality of how rich this country is where you have the liberties you do to live a meager humble lifestyle. But it's never enough, poor people have a tendency of wanting champaign when they only have a beer budget.

      @flamesblades Před 3 lety

      @@Dk0617 So, for the first part, that’s what, 3 cities out of *_the entire contiguous United States?_* Yeah, that’s crazy lol.
      Obviously certain states have different inflationary rates, therefore the minimum/living wage should proportional towards said states, because states are autonomous entities that are combined through the federal government. US government 101.
      Regardless of skill, workers should at least be able to support themselves, and by support I mean be able to buy at least a meal a day and a place to stay. That shouldn’t be some privilege you earn.
      Minimum wage *_was_* intended to be lived off of. In fact, it was supposed to be enough money to where a man was able to support himself and his family with it. The problem is, minimum wage isn’t tied to organic inflation, and can only be raised via legal action.
      The majority of large companies with global chains can easily raise the minimum wage to, say, $15 without losing *_any_* profits/rents.
      Jobs get automated all the time. Raising minimum wage to a living wage isn’t going to increase the rate that automation occurs.
      Economists around the US are all in support of raising the minimum wage, yet for some reason, instead of listening to the people who study it on a nuanced level, these emotional narratives get created and peddled.
      edit: peddled *

    • @flamesblades
      @flamesblades Před 3 lety

      @@Dk0617 Reread my comment again. I said originally intended. The minimum wage was created in the 1930s, one of the many amendments made to the economy during the Great Depression. That’s significantly more than two decades, and the minimum wage was last raised in 2008, so that statistic you provided bottoms out, although no one was living off of 5-7 dollars an hour in the early 2000s, let alone today.
      If the minimum wage actually kept up with inflation, it would be somewhere in the twenties, perhaps even higher in highly-inflationary cities.
      So you disagree with people who actually study the effects of certain pressures on the economy? What’s next, you’ll disagree with sociologists when they say most behaviors are learned, not inherent?

      Plus, MOST places are paying a lot more now because of the crazy worker shortage. The problem there is that these people are trying to demand outrageous pay and benefits for these basic, high school level jobs. My original point remains- low skill level jobs are worth low pay. Simple.

      Walmart pays 12 dollars an hour minimum and more in other places. That’s 26,880 a year
      So try this out. Partner up with another Walmart worker and together you’re making almost 54k a year
      You’re not wealthy… but you can certainly survive on 54k a year. If you decided to have three kids to a handful of different people and you don’t increase your skills at all to rise above 12 an hour and you don’t have a partner and you’re not responsible with your money…. That is neither the fault of Walmart or the taxpayer.
      You just need to do better. You and your partner can put in a little work and turn that 12 into 15 an hour and together you’re now making 62,400.
      It’s not Walmarts fault that you are in the position you are in. They offer 12 and you accept it. Work on being worth more than 12 if you can’t figure out how to make it work.

If we cut off government assistance, Walmart would lose employees. You can't work if you can't afford food and shelter, Walmart can't operate without employees. So explain to me again why I as a taxpayer am responsible for Walmart's employees. I don't even shop at that shitty store, so why are my dollars helping them make billions??

      @@ahmorgan It isn’t the fault of Walmart that people choose to work there and accept 12 dollars an hour.
      I worked at Walmart myself in high school but it was far from ever being a long term solution
      It’s nonsense to take a bottom barrel retail job and try to forcibly transform it into a a job that pays a great wage. That’s not what it is. The rest of the economy will continue to scale against the minimum, so it doesn’t matter what the minimum wage is
      If minimum wage were 500 dollars an hour….it would still be the minimum and all other jobs that require skill would pay more
      And all of the costs of everything would reflect the new scale. The bottom will always be the bottom. You can’t get around that fact regardless of the dollar amount. You have to get yourself off of the bottom

    Great point on how immigrates can come in and be able to work their way up to the top no complaints. A lot of Americans like Sam have a poor mindset and don’t want to improve themselves to get better results

  • @1gregmoreira
    @1gregmoreira Před 2 lety +2

    What these folks don’t understand is this. Minimum wage will always be the minimum wage. It’s actually in the name
    If we were to raise the “minimum” wage to 200 dollars an hour…. It would still be the minimum. And every other field of employment that pays more than minimum wage would still pay comparatively more than the minimum
    When it is all said and done… a 200 dollar an hour minimum wage is just as valuable as an 8 dollar or 15 dollar an hour minimum wage
    And we’re back at square one, where you’re in the same position as you were before at this new minimum, because you can’t rig the game. the only viable solution is to build a skill set that commands something greater than the minimum wage.

You were screaming, cursing & calling him name, not once the young brother disrespecting in any kind of way. You don't have to agree with someone opinions but you can still have a calm debate . Peace to the saints .
