    Thank you for saying this. I'm a junior right now and I'm going to be applying to 18 schools and everyone I know thinks that is too much and I need to narrow it down. But the thing is, you never know which colleges are going to accept you even if your stats are in their range. Plus, for me, money is a huge factor since I don't really qualify for a lot of financial aid. It's really a mystery what merit scholarships you'll get from a college and I want to have good financial options but also have good academics.

    Hey Estella!! Congrats in everything so far :) I will be a senior next school year and I'm so confused about the college application process. If you have the time could you do a video explaining it? Like, when should you start applying, what to avoid doing, how to make time for so many apps, the overall process etc. I think it would help a lot of other rising seniors as well :)

    • @jeffpape6519

      Sabrina T I would say to try and not stress yourself out too much with schoolwork and pick a small niche with regards to your extracurriculars to get really good at and that you enjoy, because actually enjoying it will help you succeed. Contrary to popular belief, top schools aren’t looking for well rounded people but rather a well rounded class. They want a bunch of people who are each really passionate about one particular area/field. With regards to test scores, just try to be above the threshold that top schools require and don’t stress about getting a perfect score because that’s not what most of them are looking for. I hope this helps a bit. Good luck, and know that I’m rooting for you!

    Hi this is really late and i'm writing this in 2020 but i just want to tell you this!
    I'm only 10 and i already made my decision to go to University of North Carolina for the women's soccer team because of how the coaches tech their team. Also for the last game against Stanford. But unfortunately they lost to Stanford. I choose that detail because I believe that it's okay to loose but not okay too not learn anything. Also UNC is near another school called University of North Carolina State which has a veterinarian school. So i'm proposing to go to UNC for soccer and maybe afterwords go to the veterinarian school. I just have to work hard a study.
    Even though i'm really young i still love prepping for high school. I also know that i will change my mind since i'm still again very young. I am very prepared to face reality and realize that colleges can be tough to get into.
    Which brings me to thank you that your help me study and preparing me for high school!

    I can't even imagine being drawn/attracted to more than 20 schools. The 4 I applied to (UoC, MIT, Harvard, Princeton) are all schools that I was actively interested in attending, for various reasons. What's the point of applying somewhere with little intention of matriculating? At a certain point it crosses the line of "going wherever" and turns into what seems like a blind prestige hunt/gaming the system to get into a "highly ranked" school (a notion that is ludicrous -- small differences in 'rank' have essentially no bearing on a school's quality, since they are so easily played by universities) . I think that having a "picky personality" is justifiable for choosing where you'll be spending a fifth of your life (as well as spending thousands of dollars). All this practice does is inflate waitlists and lower the likelihood that students actually thoroughly invested in these schools will be admitted. In any case, congratulations on your acceptances! My vote is for JHU (I have a few friends in attendance that love it there). I just matriculated at MIT the other day, so hopefully you can take the spot I left in the Princeton or UChicago admitted classes.

    • @StudyToSuccess
      @StudyToSuccess  Před 6 lety +1

      I think it really just depends on the person / situation- nobody I know would be confident enough that they would for sure get into those schools you listed. Unfortunately the majority of students I've met (including me) don't get into their top choice / choices or sometimes even their matches, so applying to a lot of schools is safest bet. And I know that plenty of people have "picky" personalities (and justifiably so), but, personally, I've always had the mindset that I'll be happy & just as successful wherever I go over the next four years since I'll make sure I have the best experience I can. Now that I have all these options I'm able to narrow the list down of course based on merit / need-based aid, scholarships, location, strength of programs, etc. I still stand by my decision and don't regret anything (and plenty of people at my school & that I've met at college visits did the same thing so I'm assuming they had the same mindset as me), but to each their own!:) and congrats on MIT!

      @thomassachen5624 Před 6 lety

    If you don't hear back from your waitlist by may 1st, will you wait out still in hopes of getting accepted because i know may 1st is the day to commit to your other schools and would hate for you to miss out on opportunities and cant you make a pro v. con for the top schools you considered?

    • @KatherineJi
      @KatherineJi Před 6 lety +1

      Shaliz Eboh You can commit to a school and wait for possible waitlist exceptions after May 1. The only catch is the tuition deposit put into the first school you accepted can't be refunded if you go to a school you were originally waitlisted at.

    • @GreenStephh
      @GreenStephh Před 6 lety

      Shaliz Eboh She’ll commit to a school that she got accepted from there’s a high chance she won’t hear from the waitlist by May 1st. In your ‘enrollment contract’ to the school she commits to, it’ll state that the only reason she commits elsewhere is if she gets off the waitlist at that school. In that case, she’ll loose the deposit at that school but will still be able to attend the school she was waitlisted at.

      tbh I'm not sure, but maybe?? I wouldn't rely on it too much though! I'd definitely say location plays a role in the decision making process though- I'll talk about it more in upcoming videos!

      Little Baby Owl location does help a bit for the application pool, especially if you’re a high achieving student from a really rural area! it helps with diversity for the overall school environment so don’t stress about where you live negatively impacting you! good luck for next year!
