  • Here is how to change the oil on a Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle. In this video I don't change the filter, but I change the oil. Changing the oil filter on a Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle means the engine has to run without oil until enough oil gets into the filter chamber, so it's not good for the engine. Many people with Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles just change the oil without changing the filter, or they only change the oil filter every second or third oil change. I hope this video helps you change the oil on your Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle.

    The owners manual states that the tappet cover should be removed and 200 ml ( 7 ounces) of oil should be adde there. Also, it recommends that when the oil filter is changed it should be soaked in oil prior to installation. Have you tried this method.Just bought my Enfield, so I haven't changed the oil or filter yet. Thanks for the tip on the magnets. Good idea.

    hey, the Enfield manual says to replace oil every 3k kms, i got my engine oil change done today, oil seemed good and viscous(not even black). can i stretch the engine oil changing interval by like 1k kms?
    people always say to follow manual because engine parts wear off inside (i coudnt find any such residue in the drained oil though) but changing 3 litre of oil is not economical and when oil is good i dont find any logic in changing.
    confused as i dont want to ruin engine either.

    @hoohoohoblin Hey Buddy thanks for these videos man. They are of great help. I have been riding a royal enfield since I was 18 but then moved to New york in 2006 got my second hand Enfield last year and it sounds amazing. These videos will save me so much money and the mechanics out here don't know squat and don't even have the right tools. I had a few questions though. What oil should I use in both the primary and engine? How do I get rid of all the rust on my exhaust pipe? Thanks a lot man.

    Sorry for such a late reply!
    One way of filling filter cavity with oil the manual way is to remove the oil filter let the dirty oil drain out and before installation of the new filter kit remove the rear wheel, put weights at the back side so that the motorcycle swings back. Then you would have the air filter mouth lesser than 180 degree and put some of the fresh oil. Do the assembly of the filter cavity and then resume with normal oil change procedure.
    The process becomes a little lenghtier but thats the best way I could find it doing, rather than hanging the motorcycle on the garage roof by front wheel :P

    • @hoohoohoblin
      @hoohoohoblin  Před 9 lety +1

      I have two ramp jacks that I drive the front wheels of my car onto to change oil. I bet I could put the front wheel of the Bullet up on the ramp for the oil change, and it would work.

    • @mradiroy
      @mradiroy Před 9 lety

      I dont know what a ramp jack is, but then I think the main stand needs to re leveled to a higher ground or it may not catch any ground and may fall.
      Do send us videos.. Also i am planning to work on a bullet, your fixing tips would help.

    Hi there, quick question that hopefully your font of RE knowledge may be able to address. I replaced the rubber gasket around the clutch cover and still getting a slight weep at the bottom. From close inspection it does appear as though the recess for the gasket is maybe 0.5mm deeper at the bottom on the engine side thereby reducing pressure given there is only one securing bolt. Do you think some sort of gasket fluid could be used in the cover recess immediately prior to fitting to cure? Cheers Jim

    • @hoohoohoblin
      @hoohoohoblin  Před 5 lety

      That should work. Something like Permatex would be good. The only tricky part would be that you would have to clean all of the oil off of both surfaces and then let it dry before you put oil in after you put the cover back on.

    • @hoohoohoblin
      @hoohoohoblin  Před 9 lety

      ripmax333 Yes. The gearbox comes from the factory filled with grease. If you replace the gearbox seals with oil-tight seals, you can run oil in it. And the Primary case has its own oil supply as well, for the clutch and primary plates. I made a separate video about that.

    Hi Hoobs, Ihave read somewhere on a Bullet site that when the dip stick/oil filler cap is refitted it should only go as far as the first position. It should only be tightened right down during transportation, I wondered if you had heard anything to this effect? On a different note, there is a very informative vid on a mod or check for the rear brake to make it loads better. It is titled something like royal enfield rear brake mod, best of all it's FREE! If you replace the oilf filter, remove the side lid and fill the filter compartment with the new filter with oil, close the lid, then mount it again. This way it doesn't run 'dry' as you say in the description.

    • @hoohoohoblin
      @hoohoohoblin  Před 10 lety

      That sounds like a bad gasket on the quill feed bolt. Look up Quill Feed Bolt on the internet to learn more about what it does and how to seal it. I know the old bikes used a cork gasket, which tended to wear out quickly and leak.

    I have 2011 RE Bullet 500 with only 500 miles, previous owner just didn't ride much, do I need to change oil by age even tho it only has 500 miles???

    • @hoohoohoblin
      @hoohoohoblin  Před 10 lety

      It is still a good idea to change the oil. Oil breaks down over time. And most manufacturers recommend an oil change after 500 miles for a new engine because a lot of metal parts get into the oil while the engine is being broken in.

    • @BilgemasterBill
      @BilgemasterBill Před 6 lety

      Like the hoohoo man says, in your particular case those first several hundred or so breaking-in miles (or kilometers) dislodge a lot of metal dust, casting sand and other crap you'd really rather have OUT of you engine as its various moving parts "settle in". Even if that were not the case, and she already had thousands of miles (or kilometers, leagues, versts or parsecs) on the clock, it's usually "best practice" to treat ANY newly-acquired used vehicle to fresh fluids all around. Check your owners manual for the various types of recommended lubricants...they vary from year to year with the various sub-species of Enfield Bullets. I also regularly treat my elderly rolling junk to little dashes in their oil and fuel of something called Marvel Mystery Oil (look it up).

    Always loosen/tighten the nuts/bolts on the Engine when it has fully cooled down.
    Always use mineral based engine oil 20W50 by CastrolGTX or Veedol, never synthetic.
    Regarding oil change, please replace the oil-filter at every servicing, taking care of the following points: contd

    @hoohoohoblin Cool thanks a lot gonna purchase some 20w50 oil from Amazon and will in all probablity buy an exhaust wrap its easier since I don't really have a garage to work on spraying it with high temp paint. I tried that steel wool thing last summer but it left some scratch marks on the chrome.I wish I would ride all year round man. Would be better for an enfield. @SushilKPingua Před 11 lety

    ...before inserting the new oil-filter dip it in engine-oil, this helps in recirculation of fresh oil through it faster.
    To help better circulation of fresh oil during the first start after servicing: pour 200ml of engine-oil through the tappet-adjusting-cover with the help of oil-pump.
    You can straight away put in 2Litres of engine-oil in the engine and this would not exceed the High mark level on the dip-stick.

    ...Measure the oil through the dip-stick when the engine has cooled down. the level of oil on the dip-stick should be just a few millimetres below the High mark and never less than halfway between the High and Low mark. yes you can just press the dip-stick on the mouth of the filler to check the level.
    Do not rev the engine too hard in the first start for a few minutes after oil-change.
    The proper way to check if oil is circulating to the top-end is by removing the rocker-covers...
