We’re still waiting for the T60RP Argon review.
Like the vlog stuff thrown in or leave it out?
Surely you can throw it in every once in a while.
Vlog stuff is great. Especially when it's as beautiful as Washington's forrests are.
The vlog stuff was aight. If there was more substance to it, other than it being a foreword to the b-roll and the beginning of the review, it would be cool. Sharing more of the other things you said you were working on, that sort of thing. I guess at that point, the vlog stuff could become its own separate content, but I did enjoy the extra, beautiful b-roll.
I thought the footage was really good!
Love the vlog stuff for sure
I can't wait to see your Argon t60 review
This please.
Maybe in 2021 :(
@@rexeshd5759 reporting in, still no t60rp argon review. I have one ordered...
@@Stormcrownn you better have amp with power non less than 1,5W my THX 887 on single ended cable can be maxed out on high gain with some records 🤦♂ I'm waiting for balanced cable because its not their full potential on SE
I'm new to the audiophile journey and I just received these in the mail today. I've only had them for a couple hours but I love them so much already. To me they're exceptional, best cans I've owned so far (I also have the ships, DT770s and HD 600s, all of which I got very recently). Makes me wonder what the more expensive headphones can do better than these cause they're damn good to my ears.
more expensive headphones can do everything better, its like you lvl up your hearing
I don't get how someone's impressions of the same headphone can be so different. I pretty much heard the opposite of description you made of a T60's sound. They don't sound dark to me at all and come off as detail-focused with great directional imaging accuracy. I pretty much only concur as far as sound stage goes. It's not the widest, but its very good for a semi-open. I auditioned these side-by-side with the Sundara and found the latter to be too warm for my tastes, really. Just something in it that's just not as sharp as the T60. For once, Zeos had impressions that were far more like what I actually heard.
I own both and have the opposite opinion of yours, I listen to music with T60s when there's too much high frequency in the music when using the Sundaras. I love them both though.
age (hearing change) and experience, source too, preference.....loved Senns being 30, now 50+VAT and prefer Beyers/Sony/Fostex/Victor (His Masters Voice) signature [pro only]; don't care much 'bout female vocals, listen mostly to instrumental jazz and classic rock; source Burr Brown only, tubes (Felix), Luxman (love Japanese approach to audio 😊); Sundaras are not bad, but too wide and have no imaging (depth)
Let´s agree to disagree Joshua. Personally I think they´re a great pair of cans: beautifully made with a very pleasing, non-fatiguing, hi-res sound signature that´s suitable for practically all music genres.
I agree. Practically every description Joshua made was opposite of what I heard when I tried T60's. They're not dark at all, and sound detail-focused with well-extended highs and great directional imaging. It's as if he was listening to a different headphone all together.
Absolutely awesome cinematography in the beginning. You should do that kind of stuff more often if you get the chance. Rest of the video was crap.
jk the background wind noises are really cool. Love the sound of nature! Also, you say that you rate the argons above all the other t50 mods you have tried. However, would you rate them above the ZMF Blackwood? Cheers mate.
Absolutely agree! He doesn´t know what he´s talking about. I´ve got these and they´re absolutely wonderful. Great sound + looks.
The Fostex T60RP are better than the Argons in every way except soundstage.
I've had these t-60rp for nearly 2 years now. I love them! Haven't moded it at all. A lot depends on the amp too. I'm running it off a bifrost - asgard stack.
Bass could be more. But man the granularity of an electric guitar is so nice. Thinking of modding it. Anyone else own them here?
Have you ever compared it to something else soundstage wise? Does this sound as closed as, well, a closed back or a HD600?
T60 owner here. My fav can ATM! The treble performance and detail is second to NONE. 👍
@@stanstaniboy7655 i have a hd650 which sounds more open than the t-60rp. But that doesn't mean it sounds closed. Soundstage is great too just not as jaw dropping as the really expensive ones. Instrument separation is awesome as well. I'm rocking it all the time - a lot more than my hd650!
I second that. I really don't get where Joshua gets some of these impressions, because they're pretty much the opposite of what I heard on the T60. These are sharp, detailed, and have great directional accuracy. I auditioned them side-by-side with a Sundara and found the latter to be warmer and less sharp.
@@Boyetto-san I also have both aforementioned headphones and totally agree 👍
I love the video, I have one issue with the argon price comparison though. Argons are not argons without the zmf pads, which ups the cost to $295. Nobody I have seen a review on has ever said to go ahead and use the stock t50 pads. So calling them $245 is a tad disingenuous. Aside from that, i love all of your reviews and your cinematography and audio quality are head and shoulders above others that I enjoy. If you read this I really do appreciate you taking the time.
t60rp are very good. only downside is pads make you hot after a while, the squeeks which I fixed with dry teflon spray lube and balanced cable being 100 bux. there is not any downsides to the sound imo.
could you elaborate on how you fixed the squeek? Did you just spray it into the joint?
@@Hi735 Be careful and don't get it on the wood, use a q-tip or something small to apply the lube directly to the joint.
Can't wait for you to try the t60 argons. From what I've read they are just argons brighter and more pronounced detail.
You had me at Argon review 3 months ago and it was worth the 4-6 week wait.
I agree. I love my Argons. Best headphone for the price :)
4-6 weeks? I'm on week 10...
The entire B-roll Allstar youtube review crew loving them unanimously was enough to convince me back in January. They were right!
I have the T60s and you're right, they're pleasing and I like listening to them (especially for metal for some reason) but they have a lot of competition technically speaking. I'm glad you mentioned that you can send them in to become Argons, I think I'll do that soon.
Hey did you ever end up converting your pair into Argon's? Debating between the T60 & T50 Argons, and haven't seen many people talk about their experience with teh T60 Argon's
@@bri_the_way They should be coming in at the end of April, they're still at Modhouse.
@@kvltwalter Awesome! I just ordered a pair too. Let me know what you think of them!
Not all people want to get through the hassle of waiting for argons and dealing with customs and stuff like this. T60rp are also less expensive than argons sometimes.
Was I the only one that found vocals pretty recessed? That giant 10k peak kinda killed these for me too, and thats coming from someone that used to own stock HD800's and never had an issue with them. I found these the most sibilant out of any headphone i've ever tried.
It is probably partly because everyone ears are different
On thing I found with the t60, they are intimate. I think the vocals sound fantastic because, to me, they are very uncolored (the vocals, not the whole spectrum). I have pad swapped a few times but keep going back to stock because they are the only ones that keep the sound so intimate, but different pads open up the sound significantly, but why get these if you were just going to pad swap to get more sound stage. The Argons are great, but pose as open back with the body of a closed back, for some that's amazing because open backs generally have trade offs. I'm interested to see what T60 Argons will sound like, but at the same time it, making them Argons loses what makes them special in the first place.
Intimate is good if you are listening to metal and they are great for that
Oh man you aren’t Kidding about pads on the sennhieser hd6xx,600,and 650 pads they are absolutely crap pads I had dekoni pads ordered and sent the same day I ordered my hd650 I still tried the stock pads but swapped those turds day one it’s a all around improvement for sure I love dekoni’s sheepskin pads to death probably not the best sonically I didn’t notice a huge difference for real a very small bump in the bass maybe nothing major they still sound phenomenal these same pads fixed my focal elegia when I still had them dekoni does there thing ZMF so far is the only other company making pads this good
In Hong Kong where I live, this is sold at HKD1450, which is about $200, and when hanging it up to a powerful amp (which I tested at the shop) they sound good and I think it is worthy. However I dont have a powerful amp and without an amp it doesnt sound good.
Where can I buy these in HK?
Looks like you got your hands on a pair of Audeze Sine's! I'm pumped to see the review! Also, make sure to pad swap them. I found that OEM Skullcandy Aviator pads sound the best and are the most comfortable of all the pads I've tried. Also, try them out with the cipher cable if you have it. I just have the EQ flat. If you have Android, Anker makes a lightning to usb-C audio adapter that works perfectly for Android, Windows, and Mac. Looking forward to the review!
With all due respect Joshua I find it incredibly difficult to believe that the mere substitution of ear-pads will make the T60RP sound THAT different as in "far superior". Better? Probably a tiny bit as in 10-15 percent max and possibly less. The comfort okay maybe a bit more like 25-30 percent better but even this degree of better is somewhat hard to believe. Not totally sold but to each his own. Love the beginning video footage. You should include more. Cheers.
"better"? no, "different?" yes.
Stock T60rp's are the best. I don't like Argons at all and I tried both v3 and v2.
Been wanting you to review t60rp since last year great to see you finally doing it ❤️
So, the SOUNDSTAGE on Argons is similar to: 1. HD800, 2. Sundara, 3. AKG K 712 soundstage , or something else ?
not rly because they are closed back, you cant compare open back soundstage to closed back, my K712 can sometimes make me feel like I have no headphones on and sound just flow free thru my head (no echo clear transparent sound) T60rp Argons got very good soundstage as for closed backs but definetly dont have that "air" like open cans has
I should have listened to you JOSH......im dumbfounded i read aot of great reviews and purchased these, my daily drivers are Senn. HD6XX, these more expensive cans pale in comparison?? i almost wonder if im doing something wrong, im using a mayflower arc and the low mid and vocals are amazing on the HD6XX They could use a tiny bit more treble, any way the t60s bass distorts on most songs with mid to low bass notes, the are incredibly neutral and high? completely missing parts of movie scores(han zimmer) or reggae that i listen too?? im returning them bummed as i passed on Argons for these...
This Forest atmosphere is life ❤️❤️❤️ and sounds
What about t60rp argons...? I do agree I would buy these right now if they were 199... I'd buy them and make them argons.
Got a t60rp 6 months ago, and I have this rattling / buzzing issue in the low frequencies. I tried to contact Fostex, and never got a reply. I tried to contact my distributor, and so far I've been waiting 6 months to get a replacement unit. They didn't even ask me to send the unit back :p
MetPro SOWC I had maybe the same issue with t20rp... I’ve fixed it by opening them up and screwing the driver snuggly to the cup.
It's the first thing I did lol, I tried to mess up with the screws but it didn't work out :c
rip
I got it for 270usd/370cad. I think it's worth it for the wood and the balanced input without that mehh locking system and decent stock pads. Also it was cheaper then t50rp argon for me and t60rp is better then stock t50rp and I don't have to change the pads immediately or do any modifications to have a decent headset. I will send it to modhouse later down the line for sure.
Night sky was a good analogy
The sound design in this one was great
Great review as always and just one question: are those audeze sine on-ears on your table?? :)
I am saving up for a "wood" headset. Anyone know which is better? Denon 5200 vs Fostex T60RP vs Meze 99 Classics vs SIVGA Oriole? Thanks.
i dunno what you got in the end but the 5200 denons were very closed off and warm. They sound great for that but not crispy clean and not very comfy. Super luxury look and feet though. Thats my experience.
I'm curious to hear your opinions on the Avantone Planars, they are another pair of sub $500 headphones
Hiya Josh - for a first pair of planar headphones, what do you think of these vs the Sundara? gotta admin I love the looks of the t60rp... but realize the looks don't matter to me as much as the sound.
Yes, just buy argons and wait 4+ months. Great advice
Fostex does not need to compete with the Mods. All the Mods have to buy their headphones lol.
On this video, your mic picks up the sound of the open window in the room as you speak and it's momentarily odd, but because the video began with nature shots and binaural wind, it's very a welcomed and seemingly natural progression that gives this review a unique and pleasantly calm vibe; it's like listening to a calm sea breeze.
I very much just forgot about this being a T-60 review and really ended up enjoying the sound of wind for most of this.
Nice production value Valour
Joshua, did you ever get a chance to look at the T60 Argon and compare it against the T50 Argon Mk III?
Really wish I can actually buy the Argons.
I just got my ZMF Classic for work running off a MCTH and love it. Only wish it leaked less sound. It looks like the bass port is fully covered, so I guess this is as good as it is.
Definitely looking at getting a T50RP Argon for home use later down the line. That hinge noise the T60 makes is a deal breaker for me.
The gimbal covering on the Classic is also fully open which allows them to leak a bit of sound. Great cans though aren't they?
T60RP Argon review/comparison for my mental health please
your b roll gets better and better
I have a pile of headphones and these are my favorite.
that said you have to be willing to lube some joints, and tighten some screws, EQ and Void your warranty.
IE finicky bastards.
your reviews are so spot on, thanks.
Great review, love the b-roll. Don't think you've dissuaded me, the t-60's are going on my Xmas list... I need wood, man. Do you have any closed backs on the horizon? Keep 'em comin' dude.
did you get the t60s last christmas? how do you like them?
@@tomd4934 Sorry for the late reply. Yes I did. I like them very much. I use them for home, mostly when on games like Elite Dangerous or Skyrim or other epic experiences.
I was concerned the pads would be too stiff, but they're actually quite soft.
One negative, for me, the "comfort strap" is not so comfortable for longer then a couple of hours (which is actually more then enough for a single sitting). It needs padding and so I might try a mod at some point in the future.
Also, for me, they are too "open" for the office or other public spaces.
Ultimately, I'm going to keep them. I hope this helps you in your decision.
Thumbs up for the first 17 seconds alone.
9:30
What headphones would you recommend for forward vocals?
Love the new “back to nature” Josh doing his errands!
T60RP Argon or the Argon MK3 from modhouse?
Finally someone who doesn't want to sell you everything like Zeos -.-"
I like my T60rp's with the ZMF ovel pads
@Joseph Batty same
Which type of oval pads? I am really wanting to try em all but don't know which one to get
@@kalebthomas3598 I think I went with cowhide
www.zmfheadphones.com/pads-and-cables/zmf-oval-earpads
Well, Argons are not available for at least the next 6 to 9 months and cost 330$ plus shipping, you know what i can get for 340$ including shipping ? Hifiman Sundaras. I can get T60RPs for 240$ in my country including shipping.
How did that happen? A lot of time to wait...
I love them but I'm selling my Argon Mk3s on ebay right now. Offer ends on April 11th 2021.
3:41 you need head and shoulders shampoo 😜
Whats that gorgeous LUT you used in that intro
Do you have any plans to review the T60rp Argons?
Josh can’t get them. He will need to borrow Zeos set. Ryan @ Mid house is backed up.
Argons are somewhat easy to come by used. I have a mk2 which I'm keeping and a mk3 which I'm trying to sell. Honestly I don't think there is a closed/semi-closed planar that beats them under $500.
I'm glad that I'm not the only one who prefers the original Argon over the MK3. There is a bigger difference then I though it would be.
@@PerfmonX64 I agree. It's totally worth it to find a T50rp Mk2 used or TX0 for conversion into a Argon Mk2. I actually sold the Mk3 on Head-fi today.
@@steven2640 Are your Argon MKIII still for sale?
I wonder if there's a conch shell headphone
Please no.
And I had 2 pairs that rattled with heavy sub bass and intense drums. Not pleasing. Was never sure if it was intended. Ended up getting a refund. But this is definitely a bright leaning headphone with beautiful mids and treble. Very fast and lovely in every other way than low bass. I would have liked to keep them. And might just get some for an argon mod. I believe it would be the penultimate argon mod bar none.
Ratting / buzzing in the low frequencies seems to be a pretty common issue on the t60rp, a lot of people are complaining about this
Wes Sutherland My t20rp used to rattle at some sub bass heavy tracks... I’ve fixed it by opening them up and screwing the driver snuggly to the cup.
Its all the screws, its kinda shitty they make you have to fix stuff like that, but at least you can, I recomend this headphone style only for tweakers/true enthusiasts who are willing to work on them.
Have you seen the hifiman HE5se is on sale form 700$ to 350$ I have seen a couple of pair going for 279$
What is the point of modding? If you want to mod the headphones to the sound that you want, you can always buy other headphones that have the preferred sound. It defeats the originality of any headphones.
Frankly speaking, I don't consider changing the pads is modding.
Alright, I was expecting a jump scare in those first 45 seconds of B-roll. I enjoyed those panoramic & close up shots, eh.
"Just buy Argons" *Checking Hall of fame, no Argons*. Dude, really.
are you going to review the emu teaks?
Hi josh your the best i need your help what headphones. Sound best for gaming and movies dt 1990 or hd660s or.i the hifiman arya.i have the hd 650. Do the hd660s sound similair. Thankyou
Competitive gaming, I'd recommend the ad1000x *start here*, hd700 best I've heard so far, hd800, dt990, shp9500s, and fidelio x2hr. For fun gaming and feeling immersed, dt1990, t50rp argons, hd700, he4xx *start here*, etc. Things with more low end bass. Hope this helps. As for which is best for you, hard to tell! Everyones different.
Still waiting on t60rp argon.
Compared to the hifiman soundara?
You probably shouldn't be doing the driving and talking thing, indeed, as any distraction will extend your reaction time by up to two seconds. Humans just can't multitask, we can only task switch. Each added activity thus suffers. Anyway, interesting roundup of Fostex.
Seconding this, when you're driving, your number one focus should be.... Driving.
Can either of these be driven by a dragonfly cobalt?
I thought that real good headhpones have >250 Ohm impedeance and the T60RP have only 50 Ohm? Why does they have only 50 Ohms?
Ohms say nothing about how good or bad are headphones. and 50Ohms are not the only params which you should consider. sensitivity also matters. sometimes 50Ohms (especially planar ones) harder to drive than dynamic >150Ohms
why not both considering that modhouse has released the t60rp argons.
STILL WAITING FOR ARGON VS M1060
single-ended or balanced Argons?
they are power hungry so balanced for sure unless you have amp that can push like 2W ~50ohm
Do the 909s.
"e.i."? Did you mean i.e.?
GUYS I NEED HELP. Do I buy the T60 RP, the Sundaras, or the 6XX? Pls help me
Which ones did you get
I would get this one. The 6XX sound flatter but are just so boring, it's like there's nothing to them apart from a amazing mid-range. Sundara has bad QC (to the point where folk's drivers fail) and is sibilant af.
@@stanstaniboy7655 Do you have them?
@@bubzzz which ones? The Sundara?
I guess out of these 3 that OP suggests, I would get the Sundara. The QC is bad though so dunno, pick your poison I guess. The T60RP is very solid, just shy of Soundstage.
This is the best video title on CZcams for 2019
For that price, meh. I like Sennheiser HD600 more.
Mods are a useless crap idea. First of all, they are mostly limited to the US, unless they become an even larger endeavour. Then they are immediately overpriced, costing all way too much (making the mention of "budget" completely ludicrous and out of place), and are simply mods of someone else's headphones. And it probably takes weeks or months to get one. And one can't even test it, but has to keep it in any case. It's just shit all-around, so perfectly shit, that this deplorable business should logically never have existed. But then, people...
Yeah, here in Europe I personally find it insanely difficult to find even simple things like good pad replacements. And things like Argons will end up costing a fortune after all of the added costs of getting through EU customs...
