It’s a really tragic development. I want a happy peaceful car, not a assault vehicle!
Great video! I find it really weird how angry (even the tamest) modern cars look
I've always dreamed of being a car designer, pity there are no car design schools in Africa...
I drive a Dodge Charger and I can admit it definitely looks aggressive and mostly stands out from all the cars on the road. I can tell the designers wanted to give the car a powerful stance as much as the power it outputs. It’s definitely a big hit for guys like me who want a sporty car with big engine power. It’s not just the look but a sense of feeling once you get in the car. You feel powerful and you feel more confident to take on the road and drive everywhere you want. The car has actually helped me overcome my fear of driving when I knew I was driving a mean and powerful car. Changing the scene of making cars more happy and cute especially with EV vehicles will definitely take some getting used to. It can prove to actually make the roads more safe and friendly since mean looking cars associate with the drivers ego. Powerful mean looking cars can give people too much of an ego boost and make people do crazy stuff which gets people hurt.
I think a big part is carmakers desperately trying to avoid selling cars to me. Or anyone else with no confidence issues. Fortunately there’s decades of cool AND friendly-looking vintage cars to choose from. And the odd Fiat 500 and Mini.
If i saw a agressive BMW with a pig nose behind me, i would honestly keep the left lane
What does your car look like? Does it suit you? Let us know in the comments.
Most of my cars (the Mercedes/8, the Fiat Ritmo, or the Volvo 240) resembled endangered animals. Only my Chevy Impala...looked like the bozo hunting them.
W201, the car is as old as me, so probably some similarities😃
And then we have real timeless designs that DONT try to be aggressive, they look sporty by themselves
Mr Tomineli looks like Jeff Bezos
Woman tend to either love big, mean offroad SUVs like G-Wagons, Range Rovers or funny enough smaller cute city cars which were designed after the Kindchen Schema like the Mini or Fiat 500. From what I have heard big cars tend to be chosen as safety devices and because one sits higher and can see more. A proper psychological study about this would be highly interesting!
And then there is those who dont care about what it looks like. It is an arms race and driven mainly by markets outside of Europe where big grilles are a status symbol and the managers of companies / marketing and benchmarking try to one up each other.
Another reason cars seem more aggressive nowadays is technology. In the past headlights were round because they had to be by law or the technology didnt allow for small lamps. Today with LEDs - for the first time ever slim headlights are possible and slim lights look more aggressive by nature. The angle is also important, a slanted light signals aggression and typically looks meaner.
Super aggressive cars tend to be SUVs or premium cars which try to differentiate themselves from the masses with big gestures.
If you look at regular cars like VW Polo, Golf, Ford Fiesta, Seat Leon etc. they mostly do not have huge grilles and the front is defined by light graphic (for example Peugeot). Light is the new chrome of today where manufacturers are trying to be different.
Exactly!
BMWs to me look like cute animals. F10 (5 series) looks like a bunny from the side, that's why I named her Pupu (which in Finnish means "bunny"). The next generation of 5 series (G30) looks to me like Bubu because it has thick "eyebrows". X6 is extremely cute, especially the first 2 generations. I don't see anything aggressive there with those round lines and big "eyes", just like a cute animal. BMW 1 series (E81) is also very cute with those huge "eyes". Same for BMW 3 series (G20) with that almost heart shaped grille ("nose"). It's headlights look like flower petals. Aggressive to me is anything which doesn't resemble something from nature, for example angular shapes as Audi headlights. Or the design of Toyota Aygo which looks like an angry samurai.
I hate how hyper edited this video is even if it’s a really interesting subject matter
complex light cone hot-spot mitigating angular car headlights, air flow optimized grills vs
projection & pareidolia in regards to perception of grumpy angry or aggressive car design
Forgot to censor B-MA-9070 1:02 license plate
bring the 90's back!! oh crap how I miss happy nimble cars
I drive Mito, not agressive looking at all cooler than all those
None of the cool cars are angry. Etype, vintage ferraris, 911, fiat 500, pagoda. Not even the countach, the quintessential edgy poster car, is angry.
I like to coast to red lights in my 2007 Town Car while BMW SUVs freak out behind me. Why race to a red light?
A black grill is not nearly as aggressive as a row of sharp fangs.
Great concept to create a hostile design subconsciously evoking higher stress level which causes frustration which can be compensated with consumer of more products, medications etc.
2:06...Kojak is alive ;-)
At any point in history you could have looked at cars and asked why so many ugly "trend following" cars where being pumped out. There are only a very, very small number of really talented, original designers to employ and so many layers of bureaucracy, regulation, internal company politics, cost accountants etc. working against creating that one beautiful car.
Also, frankly, car companies try to create cars that are cheap to stamp out and sell well. They aren't looking to create a beautiful, elegant, timeless classic design because if they make it pretty you won't want to buy the next model in two or three years.
Anything without sealed beam headlights circular or rectangular, boxy styling, the absence of chrome is a complete travesty. It’s almost as though cars went from being youthful to a midlife crisis in the 1990’s to the present.
BMW does this large grill styling to appease the chinese market
who else thinks the guy looks like Jeff Besos twin Thumbs up
I think angry looking cars are so weird looking. Like is it supposed to be more macho? Why does every car have to look like it was designed by Vince McMahon. I just think designers need to calm down, put down the steroids, and go to a spa.

Why cars look happy and angry and nervious and why the modern cars looks like a face?
FEMINISTS BE LIKE: i am offended, cannons on tanks are phallic.
LMAO
Cannons on tanks are functional.
Building cars to look perpetually furious with their own existence... isn't. I'd even agree with the authors of the video that this design trend is a bit disheartening.
You should talk about... you know living machines f**k I just said it I JUST F**KING SAID IT
seriously, look at an EAGLE, a SHARK and a TIGER, apex predators don{t have big fish eyes and cute look. they aerodynamic, fast and agressive and a master design by millions of years of evolution. unless Jeep grills that are awful and need a angry eyes aftermarket grill to be better. haters gonna hate
CENTENIALS DISCOVER CARS OFFEND THEM
What do you mean Dio?
@@DWREV centenials are offended by aggressive aerodinámica designs. They are so pampered and Crystal that they break vey easily by the slightest of things.
Because people are cringy
Said the beta soyboy, agressive cars are better, you are the only one here who is cringy.

Some of your translations are hilarious. And plain wrong. I'm not even a native english speaker and it hurts my ears! Exceptional quality journalism. NOT.
We enjoyed your humour coach impression from Borat.
@@DWREV is that honestly your best reply? It's not even borat thing. It's called english! Maybe you've heard of it...
If this is the quality of your journalism, just leave it...
