If the variable valve timing solenoid in your vehicle is stuck or clogged, causing your engine to not run properly, you may notice reduced fuel efficiency, sputtering, rough running or stalling in your engine. This process should be similar on the following vehicles:
2012 Ford Focus
2013 Ford Focus
2014 Ford Focus
2015 Ford Focus

Outstanding video and instructions. Needed this for a Range Rover Evoque which has a bad intake vvt solenoid. Hope I can do it as proficient as you. Thanks
How do you know if its the intake or exhaust solenoid that needs to be replaced?
When I did mine I couldn't help but think that a relatively minor design change would have allowed them to be replaced without removing the valve cover. They already stick through it. A gasketed bolt could have gone right through the cover to the head.
THANK YOU! This was an excellent video for someone who has never done this before. I'll be starting with the oil and crossing my fingers but my luck usually isn't that good. So I will more than likely be tying into this project this weekend.
Helped me out a lot! Thank you sir!
Oh yes man thank you. Next week end project.
Very clear video , nice and slow to catch info.
Hi there, It this is the same procedure for a 2018 Focus 1.0 ecoboost? Thanks for your time
Thank you! this is what I needed
Do you have a vid for a 2015 ford explorer the VCT.
help, I have a Ford explorer 3.5 xlt and the camshaft chain is cut and my question is if this is why my engine no longer works, or simply change this chain, help me with your knowledge!!! thanks for your videos
What is the difference between the VVT and VCT solenoid on the ford focus?
Will it be the same on a 2014 Ford escape?
I’ve order 3 of these my ford focus is from the uk shipped to jamaica it still leaks oil i’ve now ordered a used original part as i’m assuming maybe the new ones are the issue? Please advise.
I have the p420 code on Ford focus 2012, I have already changed oxygen sensors, will it be possible to solve the error by changing the exhaust valve?
Same for ford transit?
How do you tell which one needs replacement? I have the code P0012
Have vid for 2018 f 150 3.5
Only replaced the one? Why? If one failed at that amount of miles, you want to do everything all over again when the other fails? Do both while you are already there..
Hi chief, I just replaced the valve cover gasket after everything was put back together, all of a sudden I got the check engine light on so I scanned it and is giving me code P0013 ( B Camshaft position actuator A control circuit / Open Bank 1). Is that code related to that selenoid you replaced??
+Maddog We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
What seal do you need to get for the solenoids?
He meant for the valve cover
Is the intake and exhaust the same sensor so I can replace both
Did you ever get an answer for this question?
They are the same. Make sure you use sealant on the seam between the head and timing cover
Does this include the 1.0 EcoBoost engine?
+Leon27383 This procedure might be different for your application. We do not currently have a how-to video for this particular year, make and model. Thank you for asking! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
I got that cod but my motter is ticking
I would replace both at the same time.
How did you know to replace the front one if there’s two?
How do you know which one is the intake and which one is the exhaust one?
The front one is intake, the rear is exhaust. I just had a code pop up, so i replaced the exhaust one, but now it has a lil bit of a weird idle, so I’m going to replace the intake one also. I suggest replacing both
Should I replace both VVTS or just the front? How do I know just do one or both?
You can also check the resistance. But, just replace both. They are cheap and you don't want to have to do it again later.
Quick question: Should I have my battery unplugged before replacing the solenoids, or does it not matter?
Is there a difference between the 2 solenoids ??? Could I swap them with each other and it run correctly
I replaced both of them because I was getting the P0027 code I’m not sure if I should’ve bought two different ones I bought 2 of the same exact ones … I’m still getting the same code
This is a tutorial from the shop and you did not even show how to replace the gasket and the seals for the variable valve timing solenoid. Shame....
