So glad you shared this one with us Jacob. I get asked how to find a car business dream job literally every day of my life and there is never a set path. This is a perfect example of how working hard, staying visible, and networking can get you where you want to be.
Great advice ed.
Get David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan on the show.!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just cant believe roadkill is now a 'back in the day' show. Still hurts me that it isnt about like it was.
YeSS Get David Freiburger on the show
Work hard = Get what you want
This was like a movie trailer . Now I want to see the movie.
Well spoken!
Zane Dzikonski maybe one day!
Finnegans garage was what brought me to VinWiki
This brings everything full circle
Exact same story here.
Kyle Hibner thanks for following along -Jacob
Currently knocking on the door of 30, looking for a new direction in my life. This video is just what I needed.
Happy to be of assistance good sir! -Jacob
How’s it going?
About 1 medium-sized dinosaur's worth of oil to get home.
"Everything starts with a bad idea, doesn't it?"
*Every project car ever*
All facts.
@@TheRaccoonGoonGT it never goes as planned lol
Dude you made this comment 1 minute after the video was posted. Do you even watch them?
@@ColoredinLight yessir I do
@@MaxSpeedMike and sometimes the project car disaster doesn't have anything to do with the car.
Sitting here watching this looking at a roadkill sticker on my toolbox you gave me in a Olive garden parking lot in victorville! Congrats on all the success man!
Hey hey! I remember that!
Great story and great style of narration! I'm sure he's going to become another VINwiki favorite!
FOAD RIGHTNOW thanks man! -JD
Ok this is the coolest story so far. Thanks folks.
Nathan Roakes thanks man! -Jacob
Think this might be the best vinwiki story so far. Well done and thanks for sharing!
Dana Johnson thank you! -Jacob
My 21 year old son who works in an automotive shop grows a beard for the same reason to look older
23 here, and almost the HumbleMechanic's beard length XD
lol. people need to stop changing just to appease a bunch of old farts that are more concerned about what you look at vs your skills and knowledge.
@@678friedbed my son when he is cleaned shaved looks about 13 years old...with a beard he looks like an adult.
@@678friedbed for me it's because of gender dysphoria :)
@@TheFirBall so? it will do him good when hes looking for employment and the employer wants a 20 year old with 40 years of experience.
Your car always says something about you. That hornet says very clearly that Jacob is awesome.
P WrightisRight Not what I expected haha but thanks! -Jacob
Saw him while my friend Randy was talking to him in person at a car show in Los Angeles this past summer. Nice guy!
These guys a way back had a youtube show called roadkill
Jees dude dont do that to me like that. Still miss them
I hope one day I can have the same job as he does...there is no better job in the world than just going around driving automotive masterpieces
There's a little more than driving to this whole deal, but it is pretty darn rad! -JD
Great story. Thanks for posting it. A number of years ago I wanted to go to SEMA. I contacted Vette Vues Magazine and asked if I could go as a member of the press representing them. They said "sure, but also write a story!" So I did and they published it. In fact, for a few years after that I continued to write stories for them as a free-lance writer ("free" is an important word here - LOL).
David Roddick thanks for watching! You got your foot in the door and that means a lot!
I watched all of this from the other side of YT, but I didn't know any of this. Awesome.
This is such a great story! A perfect reason why you should always offer value to get where you want to be
Gives hope for the rest of us to realize the semi realistic goals we all set out for good for you bud!
Thanks man! -JD
Sally's Speed Shop always give credit when credit is due you made it to a level a lot of people only realize on rare occasions
Nothing is better to a car guy than seeing their work of love, sweat and blood in the pages of THE car guy's magazine. Long Live Hot Rod Magazine! #LLHRM
Likable dude and a great story.
Thank ya! -JD
Such a good story! I thought Jacob was finnegans brother this whole time and would just come over to help finnegan lol
No relation, that we know of! -JD
Last time I was this early, the SLC was still borrowing plates.
Roadkill has been to my local Walmart for the beginning of an episode and that makes me happy
Jukeson 98 roadkill went to my local race track in Australia
McDoogle they’ve been to my local track as well and a few of the local race shops we have
Last time I was this early rabbit was parking in the school parking lot
Thought this would be the doug demuro video. Mistaken but not disappointed.
RandoCrypto haha not even close. Thanks for watching. -Jacob
Jacob, thanks for sharing your story with us, congrats on your job with Hotrod, and keep up the great work. I love Hotrod Magazine, and while I don't own anything which could be considered a hotrod, the things I have learned over the years transfer to all cars and motorcycles. The Green Hornet is also a great example of current "just get out and drive it" trend.
Thanks for following along man! Anything can be a hot rod!
I LOVE that Hornet Sportabout wagon!
I knew “some” of this story, but to have the rest of it filled in here just makes me appreciate Jacob all the more. Well done, sir. You worked hard and achieved your dream job!
Thanks Ken!
I liteeally needed this video.. everything happens for a reason!!! Glad you found your dream job and always working hard!!
This is a man after my own heart. Its more fun to play with the beat up old cars, and make them work, than to buy a brand new one.
Great story! I got goosebumps when you talked about guy getting their car in the magazine. Definitely every car guys dream.
I use to haul parts into American Motors in Milwaukee and Kenosha. This story did my heart good. Thanks.
"HI, I'm Jacob, and I like making grown men cry."
Miles From Extraordinary haha what? 😅 -Jacob
Roadkill got me into CZcams. Loved that show.
Great video. Loved every second.
One of the best stories yet!!
Oh my God. That's not an oil leak...that's an oil fountain.
rmp5s I’m not gonna argue with that -Jacob
Jacob is a very down to earth hard working guy.
Got to road trip to Tuscon with Jacob and the Green Hornt for the roadkill zip tie drags he and the car is awesome!
Thanks buddy! Good meeting you! -JD
Awesome! Another amazing story of a maaaaad journey! Grats Jacob!
Thank ya!
This was the best vinwiki video I’ve ever seen.. good shit
Amazing story! With a good work ethic and drive you can go far!
Great story, and I'm very glad you presented it. It shows what determination and intentional effort can do when coupled with a goal. I did a bit of freelance for HR back in the early 90s. It really feels amazing to be even a small part of that legacy. My current career path is something I forged out of a starting point of essentially nothing, just working toward my goal and doing everything I could think of to make it happen. It's nice to hear how Jacob made it happen for himself. He did what I did: "What do I need to do to make this happen? Okay, I'll go do that. Then what? Okay, I'll do that next..." just keeping at it until it happens.
Thanks! That's what it's all about!
Great story. Good to see a young man conquer his world.
What a great story! Vinwiki with another homerun video! Thank you!
The Roadkill guys would be great on this channel
then vinwiki would go behind a paywall
This is my favorite vinwiki yet.
Makes me happy listening to this one.
It's awesome to see someone embrace their passion, even if it's tough and not lucrative, and yet through hard work and determination succeed in a way likely not even thought possible in the beginning. Great story and congrats to you Jacob!
Thanks so much!
It’s too bad Road Kill went off of CZcams still love the guys!
The idiocy is strong in you! Its nice to know what we are isnt it!
thanks for sharing buddy!
Great story! Now I want to subscribe to Hot Rod again! Hope you can continue entertaining us with more of your adventures.
Please do! I'll do my best to keep you at least mildly amused haha -JD
Great story people! I love this type of content.
I would kill to have lunch with mike and dave😂
It's basically a 2-stroke at that point! Beautiful ride.
This is an awesome story dude! As a writer who loves cars, your job is definitely up there with the dream jobs. Keep it up yo
Thanks!
Really cool story Jacob!!!
i almost spent 26k on a 2016 maxima, then i got a notifcation that vinwiki posted on ig and walked out the dealership
They just saved you a ton of money if only on depreciation
this is an amazing story i didnt realize the backround of his car and partnership with fin.
What a rad job to have!
Loving Jacob's work, such an inspiration fire sure. Hoping to be able to turn my photography hobby in a job as well one day
His story is made of things I dream of, hate to be cheesy, but seriously inspirational
We need more stories from this guy.
That looks like my moms old car dad bought it brand new and i thought it was the coolest thumbs up stay Awsome.
Awesome story!!!
That is awesome. Good for you man. Take the risks, got the reward.
Thanks!
Watched finnegans garage for ages and saw those episodes and effectively saw this all unfold in real time, I get the feeling Jacobs going to be the new frieburger in 20 years time.
Its great how its such a small world and roadkill/finns garage/luckys garage/Invincible Extremes Muscle Cars Garage
/hoonigans etc all tie into one another.
Wow, I'm not sure Freiburger's level of automotive savviness is repeatable, but I'm flattered you would say that! The group of people making everything happen in the automotive industry is a lot smaller than you might think!
Great story!
Cool to see Jake Davis on here, again.
Sharp kid. This video is a good reminder to never give up
Well done Jacob! Inspiring story for all of us noob automotive journalists growing our own youtube channels!
Happy to be of service! -JD
Thanks Jacob - Sally's Speed Shop just got a new sub! Let me know if you are ever in the Detroit area and interested in connecting.
Love the vids!
Great story.
Another great video
Another badass video!
RIP Roadkill 😢
I am Mechanical Engineering Graduate and I am pursuing Masters Automotive Electronics Engineering (2nd year) and I hate it. I love cars..I like driving it and talking about it all day long. This video gives me some hope.
RIP MotorTrend on CZcams
Thank god, I thought it was going to be the guy that said "As much as people talk about the Nurburgring, Spa is the track". That guy could put me to sleep telling me the most amazing story. His delivery is the problem
What a story! I have wondered what happened with this guy and the car.
Great episode!
This guy is living my dream
I will have to admit that I want going to watch this video. I really didn't think that I would enjoy it. However, I am glad to say it played during my drive home. I enjoy listening to this show while I drive. No, I don't watch. Anyways it was way more entertaining than I would have ever suspected.
I feel like a fool; I thought you were Finns brother. Glad I know the actual story. It amazes me how much you guys look alike. Funny how things work out.
Life is weird sometimes, and who knows... maybe we are related in some fashion haha
Now this inspires me to be an automotive journalist
Guess his high school was right, he really did grow up to be successful. I'm really glad Jacob is living life to the fullest :)
I hope to see more stories from him!
Successful in a non-traditional sense for sure haha -JD
This is hilarious, we paralleled each other here. I was applying for the same jobs at the same time. I was selling cars in NE Pennsylvania when I saw the sane positions come up on TEN’s website and I even got a call a few months down the line to tell me that the position had been filled. Good for you man you’ve definitely got a dream job.
Small world!
Right on, now do do something to get fired so I can have another shot lol,
Love the AMC man
Luke the handsome mechanic Luke haha don’t count on it! We’re always looking for freelancers though!
Sally's Speed Shop /
Well not to put you on the spot but I’d like to look into that if you can shoot me an email lucas82312@gmail.com I’d appreciate any info or opportunity
Anyone else think vinwiki needs a magazine
A magazine is a hit or miss for the size of VINWiki, but a blog section on their website could do.
Ayy coweta county! That's my pops home town newnan!
Cool videos guys!
burnout contest has been nailed
Essentially giving yourself a James Bond style oil slick must have made for some occasionally fun corners.
Great story, Finnegan Jr.
just saw a rabbit for sale reminded of this channel had to come watch
This guy is really cool, meet him in Victorville randomly.
Where was Victorville at? I get around haha
Sally's Speed Shop Victorville California
Ah that’s right! At Olive Garden? haha
Sally's Speed Shop heck yes!
I have a newfound love for hornet sportabouts but I'm pretty sure they don't exist here.
They almost don't exist anywhere! -JD
2nd gear and nitrous for burnouts. This man is a legend.
1:26 I thought that was a REALLY tiny Jeep, for a second, lol.
Love ur vids Ed plz answer
Love your comment. Please keep watching.
Ed, plz
This might explain why Finnegan knew at least *something* about Ed/VINWiki but Freiburger did not. This was on one of the latest Roadkill Extras Q&A from last week or so. if you guys can get either/both Finnegan or Freiburger on the show everyone might be semi-happy
