My grandpa used to sing this song to my grandma all of the time. Just two nights ago my grandpa passed, 8 years after my grandma. I shed some happy tears listening, just knowing my grandpa can finally sing this to her again. I love and miss you. With all of my heart.
My dad used to sing this to mom. Dad passed a couple of years ago, mom passed in June. We are planning the joint memorial service for both and want this to be played if the Church will allow it. Happy memories of an undying love and respect for each other. They were two of the most precious people I will ever know.
My boyfriend had this playing gently through the car stereo as we drove, watching the sun set in the rear view mirrors. If I could only have stretched those few moments out for an eternity...

@@martinrobinson8200 I don't wanna be THAT guy who complains about modern music and says the old days are better, but as a Canadian who is forced to listen to Michael Buble on the radio by law, he's so terrible compared to the old singers.
Johnny singing 'Misty' with this arrangement behind him is, in my mind, the finest example of what music is all about and what it is meant to be, to touch our spirit and awaken thoughts of love which we, way too often, tuck away in our hearts away from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. We tear up and in many cases cry uncontrollably when we hear Johnny sing it and if we listen to it a thousand times, the feelings we get will never ebb. "Look at me, I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree." After that opening line a listener hearing it for the first time gets 'locked in' and can't wait for more!
Yes indeed with all of the arrangement behind him he was fun to listen to. However he could have easily jazz-ed it up a bit more to further engage a broader interest. I saw Johnny Mathis live in Seattle many years ago and he did some of his hits and he did put some serious R&B into those songs and it was fabulous.
I just read about how he created that famous fade in effect where his voice seems to come right out of the orchestra. It was as if the orchestra became is voice. Amazing. He did it by walking closer and closer to the microphone as he saying that note.
Those strings sure did the job back in that day. However, his phrasing and such could have touched more with the more powerful male sound that he always had and he could do it. But he was 'different' and successful with this voice and sound so producers with the money said keep it going because he does the full spectrum of sound and he could compete with the string section.
Yes, when everyone heard that for the first time the reaction was always, "Did you hear that! Was that his voice?" Johnny Mathis OWNS this song. In spite of the others who have sung it--Ella, Sarah, Julie, Peggy, Frank, and they do a commendable job, the Mathis Magic is inimitable. I saw him perform in 2013. The first three notes of the piano and the audience applauded. I will never forget that night...
Johnny Mathis loved the original jazz number written by Erroll Garner so he requested lyrics. They made it happen! So, Johnny has the first recording of "Misty" with vocals!
Let's not forget country singer Ray Stevens did this song. It went to number two on the country charts and number 14 on the pop chart. It still sounds good with that country sound. This sounds good too.
I met my husband 41 years ago on an unusual but very romantic way. He played this song on the piano and I sang it. It became our favorite. Sadly he passed away 22 years ago, we would have been married39 years. I still play and listen to it.

When I was a kid my older sister used to play her Johnny Mathis records on our living room console stereo. But I was too involved with my Beatles, Stones and Hendrix records to pay much attention. Well, now 6 decades later I can fully appreciate Johnny's music, especially this song. My God, what a fantastic voice he had.
Ha! I can relate to that. Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, The Who, King Crimson, Hendrix, Can, Jethro Tull . . . . . . and now I'm nearly 70 . . . . . . . Johnny!

In a time when gays (they weren't even called gays back then) were virtually not accepted anywhere, Mathis was so beautifully gifted with voice, and so romantic, that no one cared if he was gay, or even mentioned it. Sixty years later this remains the same. I saw him at the beautiful Fox Theatre in St.Louis when he was 70 or 71, and he still had that voice.
I remember him singing at some music awards program I think, and an audience of professional entertainers all had mesmerized looks on their faces....that's the kind of amazing voice he had .
Its not often a voice can make the hairs on your arms stand up !! We had a tenor named Musa Nkuna sing at my daughters wedding back in the nineties. He sang Love changes Everything and the entire wedding audience burst into uncontrolled clapping when he finished. It was one of those same velvet moments.
As I was driving South on the Pacific Coast Hiway #1 to Esalen Institute in 2005, I was playing anything and everything that I had craved to hear as I was driving South on that fantabulous and beautiful drive, ocean views to my right! 👍😎 I must have listened to Misty and my first favorite song by Johnny Mathis, Gina, at least 4 times each!❣❤🌠 I named my 1st daughter Gina after that song. That beautiful voice and the way he sings his songs can put me into a peace sleep every night! 😚😌💫 Also great music to give a perfect Holistic massage to. I love his songs and the music that blends so perfectly with his voice! 💖 I want to hear it over and over again. ❤

I saw him live for the first time when I was 11 years old. I'm in my 70s now and I've never heard another song more beautiful.
oh my God is this not so beautiful every time I hear this I am so very moved within it makes me cry remembering listening to this as a child l would stop whatever i was doing and just sway with the gentle vibe just like Tony Bennett with I left my heart in San Francisco the magic and joy that music and great artists can make you feel oh how wonderful happiness within blessings to you all ❤❤❤ 💖😇
Arranged, orchestrated & produced by the Great Mr. Glenn Osser. -----In '59, only Columbia had an echo chamber like this. ----------An all-time Masterpiece, Ladies & Gents, we'll not hear the likes of this, ever again. ---------------------WolfSky9, 71 y/o
I AGREE WITH THAT ONE! WONDERFUL MAN AND SINGER.
respect man
That echo chamber was called "360 Sound".
I love the Glen Osser Orchestra. I also like Mathis with Percy Faith in the background. I"m a Faith Fan as well as a Mathis Fan.
Erroll Garner...
I'm 20 years old, i love jazz, and i'm not saying that i was born in the wrong time, but i'd like to say to all of you that good music won't never die, this is pure gold.
😢it's already dead, never to come back
the violins are just beautiful
A truly beautiful & romantic song...1959 classic.....🤗❤🎵🎼🎵🎼
Johnny Mathis's soothing voice always lowers my blood pressure and sends me off to dreamland. One of a kind.
Nothing makes me remember the 50s like this song...nostalgia at it's best
Que coisa maravilhosa! A voz de um anjo, a música simplesmente divina. Como foi que deixamos de lado obras de arte tão belas como essa?!
Verdaderamente!!
My mother loved this man. As a young girl, I’ve always heard his singing and grew up to enjoy all types of music
I am still listening to this song since I was a little girl.❤️ Johnny and I are going steady.💞
One of the BEST ALBUMS ever recorded. This is his Masterpiece album. The brilliance of his voice, the softness, the vibrato, the emotion and the range. You can't ask for more. Pop singers today don't even compare. Truly a GREAT ALBUM. 💙 PS Johnny. Bill Stoker always spoke so proudly of you.
He really had a soothing voice!
Wonderful voice!
love is still the sweetest candy in the candy store.
Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, The Who, King Crimson, Hendrix, Can, Jethro Tull . . . . . . and now I'm nearly 70 . . . . . . . Johnny!
@@johnenock7939 Yep, all great bands and I still like them. It's just that now I can also appreciate stuff I didn't before.
I never get tired of listening to Misty. So relaxing.
Love your songs, JMathis.❤
This is my grandparents song I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!!
Thank you for posting all the Johnny Mathis songs; they are divine! I’ve never heard a more beautiful male vocalist in this genre than Johnny Mathis.
At 2:40 when he comes in over the Oboe “oooooon my own...” sounding like the instrument! ❤️
It is “heavenly.”
Amazing ❤❤
Who can not fall in love with his voice.wooooo
Such a rich beautiful voice ❤️

My dad could sing this song almost exact to Johnny Mathis's voice he passed away a few years ago and this is the first time I really have listened to this song since I miss you Dad Ronald E.Baldwin I hope your spirit is singing young and strong as you R.I.P. 💔
'still brings a "tear to me eye!"
I like Johnny's version better than any other version. I'm glad he decided to be a singer, instead of an Olympian, like he was preparing to do! And thank you for posting this wonderful song!
This is a great version but you should listen to Sarah Vaughan's.
Hey. My mom and I came to the show at Bergen Pac on Monday night. We had a great time.
That intro is CLASSSSSSSSSYYYYYYYYY
One of the greatest voices of all time

Beautiful song and singer😊❤
Sorry for your loss. Makes me think of my mortality. This was the music of my generation and Mathis is a great singer.
Reminds me of those 1980's movies I used to watch as a kid, like All Dogs Go to Heaven. Absolutely love this song
Saw him in concert back in the late 70s or so...audience went nuts when he sang this.
His voice so enchanting, magical and enthralling to fall in LOVE again!?
beautiful song...😍😍😍
So this just randomly shows up on a list of songs I might like. One of my Dads favorite songs. Lost him 13 years ago today.
And never, ever any kind of scandal...just a beautiful, sensitive, wonderful person.
I SAW HIM AT THE FOX THEATRE IN St. Louis WHEN HE WAS IN HIS 80 AND HE STILL HAD HIS WONDERFUL VOICE.
Hey, was Johnny Mathis gay??
@@slicesofsib5572 yes he is!
I never cared one way or another, never asked... I love the man and his Music, have since his beginning! My dying wish is to see him in Concert!
Is there a more heavenly voice in the whole world ? ever ? It feels as if the sound of it touches your very skin. Just soooo beautiful.
I just love his amazing voice, he is so wonderful!
When ever i hear this song brings back memories of Scotty’s in Nyack Ny and my wife of 56 years bring back the old days
Why does this song bring me so much joy 😭💯
This is my parents' song. They celebrated 50 years on Saturday, August 20th. The dj played this for them
My father passed away 2 days ago by covid and he loved his songs, especially misty. Thank you to make my father happy, Johnny Mathis. Touching our heart everyday. For eternity, Marco.† 28.06.21
