Always takes me back to watch these videos. My time was 1974, at 1st Battalion, the red brick barracks in the background to the left. I clearly recall the series forming in front of the building and feeling for the first time the depth and strength of The Corps. So many other memories from that time remain vivid. Good to see the same building standing. Best decision of my life was to join The Corps. It opened so many doors for me that otherwise would have been closed. Congratulations to these young Marines. Welcome to the world's largest and most prestigious fraternity. Godspeed. Semper Fidelis.
Nothing like a pass in review.. little did a young Marine understand the essence and overall preciousness of those fundamental years... However could anyone ever think such moments to be what theyd painfully wish to relieve and miss so much over anything else throughout ones remainding years ...
I am proud to say. I graduated from this same parade Deck back in 1983. 2nd Batt PLT 2052. One of the most important achievements I have ever done! I never will regret. Semper Fi Always faithful ! After my graduation, I got to watch my wife graduate from the Marine Corp also!

We were the "Best on the Island" . . . 267, we took ALL "4" of the trophies, I personally "Tied" the RANGE RECORD then at 241 out of 250 with my M-14 . . . our graduation was Sept 19, 1971.
I became a Marine in 1969. Since then it has been the biggest and most important accomplishment in my life. Since then I've accomplished a lot -- in school, business, law enforcement, family, etc., but earning the Title -- that's the greatest thing I've ever done. Except for those who were handed the Eagle. Globe and Anchor, no one could understand that. Semper Fi to all you Marines, past and present.
Let me tell ya, Bootcamp was a hell of a time. BUT i would ABSOLUTELY do it again. The good memories of the corps outweigh the bad any day. Happy birthday Marines. Semper FI !!
At least its only two months. Mine stop talking to me before he join the marines . Now just praying his safe and the day he comes around to speak to me again
Graduated on this same parade deck in January 28th 2011. I thought this was the proudest moment of my life, BUT I tell you what, when I honorably received my DD-214 that was on another different level of high. I’m still chasing that high to this day.
Everyone outfitted in blues? Far from my day. We graduated in khakis with short sleeves. The only blues were on the honor men from each platoon. But, seeing this brings back memories from 53 years ago when I marched across the parade deck.
2063,1988 summer, it rained 3 times that summer and one of the days was graduation day.... so we endured an indoor ceremony, sadly I never got to march across the Parade Deck in my dress uniform😔Semper Fi
Something that I haven’t seen since the 80’s and that is a Corporal as a drill instructor unless that young man is a PMI instructor. The requirement was that you could attend DI school as an E-4 but you had to be an E-5 upon graduation of Drill Instructors school.
Unfortunately the arm action is not good due to individuals having different ideas of how much swing to apply. If you look at British forces marching everybody's arm moving forward comes up to the horizontal position and it looks much crisper. It makes the marching look far more formal rather than looking like a bit of an amble across the parade ground.
Great question. I graduated in 1969 also--Platoon 2047--started up in September. We all wore greens--my preference anyway--much 'smarter'. Then, blues were given only to those who excelled in some way. Btw--I noticed how sloppy the salutes were in this video. If done properly, your belt would not ride up :). I've seen so many sloppy salutes given by Marines over the past 55 years that I'm embarrassed. But they're still Marines. Semper Fi!
My enlistment was 1960~1964~Saw many Asian country's~Also the Cuban crisis, through the Panama Canal on our way too eliminate the Russian forces~But they started removing their missiles, so we were on our way back too Camp Pendelton.~When did graduates start wearing dress blues ?~ We wore our Utility's.~SEMPER FI
What does this pattern camouflage? is a very hard question because it is hard to imagine a background against which the pattern would be hard to spot. It doesn't make wearers exactly stand out either. It seems meant to make small spot stains on the pattern NOT STAND OUT. Where did the USN's blue baseball cap, white t-shirt, work shirt, and jeans.go?
I see a lot of people saying “I’m happy they’re not going to Afghanistan. I’m happy we’re not at war with anyone. Y’all Do know what the military forces (ESPECIALLY THE MARINE CORPS) is about don’t you? I’ll give you a hint. We’re about everything You’re glad isn’t happening.
I'm curious as to how these guys are in their Dress B's for graduation. My son graduated from San Diego a month ago, and they all wore Dress C's. Is this different traditions at East vs West? Or is it a seasonal thing?
The uniform is seasonal and also what is know as the Uniform of the Day. Called by the higher echelons. Hope ur question is clarified. Semper Fi. GySgt. Retired. 77/97 Montemayor. Santa Rosa, Texas

The good thing is their not going to Afghanistan. I’m happy that the war is over and they don’t have to suffer.
