      That's what happens when Nick treats Fairly OddParents by squeezing too much just because it not as popular as Nick's golden child SpongeBob SquarePants. Same goes when cancelling Invader Zim and Harvey Beaks.
      Look. Don't get me wrong. I loved SB, TFOP, and Harvey Beaks. I just hate when Nick pressure other show just because its not reaching the same popularity as SpongeBob. The worst part is Nick cancelled Invader Zim and pressured TFOP by not ending it just because it wants to be as popular as SBSP, while SBSP already rot in quality between seasons 6 to 9a by airing disgusting (i.e. Pet or Pests, The Splinter) and sadistic (i.e. A Pal for Gary, One Coarse Meal, Squid Baby, Little Yellow Book, & SB You're FIred) episodes. Stephen Hillenberg (creator of SB) and Butch Hartman (creator of TFOP) really wanted to end those shows on a good note, but Nick forced their shows to jump the shark just to make money.

    I vaguely remember the reason why Escape from Unwish Island worked was because the wishes Timmy unwished were the ones where he just didn't think of the consequences because the consequences might not be obvious to a ten-year-old boy.
    Like when he wished for Imaginary Gary to be real. The idea that Gary might have been resentful for being abandoned didn't occur to Timmy because Gary hadn't been real up until that point. Why would something that hadn't even been real be resentful?
    Or Dark Laser. Remember, he came to life due to a technicality. In Hard Copy, Dark Laser came to life because Timmy chose the "life size" option on a magic copy machine. How was he supposed to know the action figure out actually come to life?
    Or what about Super Bike? That bike only started to get possessive because Timmy wished it was "just for him."
    My point is that a lot of the wishes on Unwish Island happened because the consequences were not necessarily obvious to Timmy since they arised through technicalities or from Timmy just not anticipating the problem.
    This Secret Wish episode doesn't work because it portrays Timmy as being uncharacteristically careless with his wishes. Like the raining rabid dingos or the secret wish in general. Even Timmy is smart enough to figure out that these would backfire on him, hence why the episode doesn't work. Timmy isn't usually this careless.

      to be fair, the Gary stuff resolved with him apparently being traped in timmy's mind... but cosmo forgot to close the door.... and in hindsight i am surprised they didn't did more about how "timmy's mind is open for literally in it to come out".

      @frankielovejoy9928 Před 3 měsíci +12

      @@LeafRazorStormMy point still stands. Secret Wish went out of its way to ruin Timmy's character. Timmy was not usually so reckless or careless with his wishes. He was just ignorant of the consequences, like any other 10-year-old boy who's still learning to navigate life.

    • @MidnightWhisper
      @MidnightWhisper Před 3 měsíci +4

      I agree--normally it was just Timmy being a 10 year old boy not thinking things through, not really out of truly malicious intentions. Blatantly wishing for it to rain rabid dingoes is genuinely sociopathic. He's bored, so he wants rabid animals to rain from the sky and attack people? It could've easily been something more innocent and childish, like raining fish or something, showing him laughing seeing people screaming in confusion as fish are slapping random people in the face flopping as they are falling from the sky. I could believe a bored child may wish for that.

It may not have been as perfect of a "just in case" finale as Channel Chasers but at least it felt like a finale, especially compared to the one we got!
    And I actually always shipped Timmy with Veronica more than either Tootie or Trixie. Still wish they wrote her character more positively, eventually becoming a part of his friend group and endgame love interest. At least Braceface and As Told By Ginger did something similar to this.

    I think the only reason why The Fairly Odd Parents was such an icon was because Butch Hartman himself was not as involved with it as we had initially believed when it first aired, and that the more creative control he got, the worse the quality became. It's because Butch Hartman is a shitty writer and an even shittier person in real life who just so happened to scam his people for a streaming service that didn't actually exist, and use his religion as a means to excuse all of his wrongdoings, like so many other religious Pharisees and heretics have been doing the past several hundred years. All in all, FOP was great when Butch Hartman didn't write the show. Plus, it was essentially being milked to death, or past its supposed death.

    one year is 525600 minutes, which is around half a million minutes. Timmy is, as far as I remember, the same age as he was at the start of the series. I don't know how the math works here, but I'd imagine he would in fact have to wish OVER TWICE a minute just to hit a million in just under a year, assuming he got the fairies the day after his birthday and this episode takes place the before his next birthday. Then again if timmy were to have had time basically frozen for 50 years, it wouldn't be AS hard to hit a million, but you would still have to be wishing near constantly just to hit that threshold. This episode blows.

    The fact it takes them nearly til the end of the special to get to the fucking point is really telling. It's like how Sponge on the Run only really has the Sponge on the run near the end; you just know they didn't think this premise through. Especially since, oh, you know, that whole "Timmy made a secret wish and secret wishes were banned because [bad thing] happened [and could happen] so all wishes must be documented, but Anti-Poof discovers a document of a secret wish being made" thing... Wat? I never thought about it until now, and thinking about it makes my brain hurt because it's such a paradox: a documented, un-documented wish...erm...isn't that, like, literally a Catch-22? Seriously, that immediately defeats the premise of the episode: he made a secret wish...except no he didn't, because the wish was documented...so then how is it secret? I can maybe understand how COSMO wouldn't know: Timmy MADE him forget, but, correct me if I'm wrong, isn't the logic of the wishes that it only works to the extent of how SPECIFIC the wording is? Timmy didn't know about the whole procedures about wishes being documented, so he wouldn't have ANY idea to wish that the wish's effects would, too, extend to the fairy bureaucracy or whatever (which, I mean, seems a little bit...erm...like a Pixie thing, per the established lore, doesn't it?) So, okay, Cosmo doesn't remember the wish being made, but the fact there is a RECORD of a secret wish being made shows quite clearly the fairies responsible for putting this shit in their records sure as shit remember, so - and pardon me sounding like a broken record for asking - how is this a "SECRET Wish", then, hmm?
    I can scarcely think of a way I'd rewrite this episode to make it less stupid, but the intro of the special gave me an idea: what if, instead of only Timmy knowing what the wish was when it's brought up...how about instead we have it be a genuine mystery and have him trying to figure out "I don't get it! What'd I do that was so bad? Why can't I remember!?" all whilst being pursued by the Fairy Law, so to speak. That way we could have some real tension instead of this manufactured tension we know Timmy's going to come out unscathed from in the end; like, heck, maybe Jorgen's the one pursuing him and he says how "I don't take pleasure in doing this-..." could even throw in a funny moment where Wanda refutes "Yes you do!" and Jorgen laughs like "Oh, right. Hahah! Of course I do!" and everyone just has this look of 'oh, brother...' but then he goes all serious again and is like "Look...I'm just doing my job; you know how seriously I take it. Why do you think I legally changed my name to von Strangle?" With the ambiguity of even Timmy not knowing what he wished for, and him effectively running from the law, it'd drive the tension up so much more and make us want to see him succeed and undo whatever damage he can't remember causing. It's not like Fairly Odd Parents can't balance comedy & drama, just look at Channel Chasers as an example of this! This episode just has no excuse to be as terrible as it is; like, even if it was a STANDALONE episode of another show, it would STILL be bad because of how badly it flubs even BASIC storytelling! I've got nothing else to say, just...this episode just has zero excuses... :/

    From the shorts up to the stupid dog. My dad even remembers the “privacy by knocking” joke and “uhhhh, internet?” - while I remember those and the “what do you mean I can’t make two tickets appear like magic?” gilligan cut.
    I can’t even ask what happened anymore because this is just my life now. I was frozen in 2000-something and unthawed 10-20 years later, where things have changed, but Hollywood is desperately pretending they haven’t and we get Mean Girls and Fairly Oddparents and whatever else they can dig up from when I was a kid/preteen.
    Also, speaking of wand farts, *remember when the fairies’ wands did that?! Now the only way you can tell a wish went haywire is that they lost the wands again.*
    And oh, wait, I’ve got more: how is a fairy-eating cockatiel worse than freezing time?! Why even have Da Rules if they don’t make sense anymore?

    This episode could have worked as a series finale if they had changed 2 things about it. 1) Foop is the 1 who set up the parade showing all the damage Timmy caused from his wishes since he wants Cosmo, Wanda, & Poof to be taken away from him. 2) The trial brings multiple characters from Timmy's parents, his friends, enemies, & even old characters who hadn't been on for a long time to help show both the good & the bad he did with his Fairies. At the end of the episode, the Fairy Council states that while Timmy isn't a perfect godchild he doesn't deserve to have Cosmo, Wanda, & Poof taken away from him, so they let Timmy keep his Fairies, Poof gets punished, everyone goes back to Earth with their memories erased, & Timmy starts making more wishes to try to reach 2 million. By going this route as a finale & ignoring the 2nd half of this episode it would have ended the series on a good note rather then the boring/forgettable way it did.

    I honestly always believed that the Channel Chasers special was the perfect send off to the series. Not only does Timmy learn what will happen once he grows old, but he goes up against Vicky, the source of why he has fairies in the first place. The parents, for as neglectful and as gullible as they are, actually learn that their child isn't someone that they can just ignore or leave to someone else to deal with. Timmy not only decides to live out his time he has with Cosmo and Wanda while he has them but treasures the time he has left with them. That special showed that Timmy was on his way to be a good sensible adult, and all because he had his time with Cosmo and Wanda, even if he forgets about them.

    I still think the dumbest Fairly Odd Parents episode was the "It's A Wonderful Life" parody that says everyone's life is magically better without the protagonist being alive. I haven't seen the episode reviewed in this video.

    The biggest logical disaster with this episode is actually that if you age up everyone on earth by 50 years, the youngest person on earth is 50 and childless. This means that there are no children on earth. So no children to have fairies and make wishes.
    No wishes, no power for fairy world... No power for fairy world, it falls down into the world of boiling oil.
    It is so incredibly stupid...

      funny you mention that. that got retconned cause of one episode. the episode where crocker himself alone was keeping fairy world afloat cause crocker knows fairies exist. if he didnt then fairy world falls into a world of acid so they made it so that every crocker like person in the universe know about fairies thus keeping fairy world afloat

    Timmy's secret wish could've worked if it wasn't in season 8. Even though i liked a majority of season 8, when you cram a bunch of specials into a shorter season you're bound to have at least one of them be awful.

  • @masterseal0418

    I find it absolutely nonsensical that being 60 years old means you're about 80-90. I saw some of my favorite VAs(such as Quinton Flynn, Jennifer Hale, Paul Eiding, Doug Stone, David Lodge, et cetera) online who were in their 60s, albeit still youthful despite the white strands in their hair. Both Finding Emo and Timmy's Secret Wish are listed on this channel as the 'dumbest episodes', but I think Dumbbell Curve is even stupider(no pun intended) cuz it is literally a rehash of Season 3's Pipe Down. Instead of pure silence, everyone acts idiotic. The climax had an asteroid about to hit Dimmsdale in both, and the civilians assume it's a giant muffin from the sky(Pipe Down had Timmy tell his fairies that he wished everything would return to normal, but due to the lack of sound Cosmo assumes he wants a taco). But that isn't the only FOP episode directly copying from an already existing one; in other words, the writers are out of ideas and keep throwing shit at the wall to hope it sticks, also playing part in an attempt to keep the show relevant. Nickelodeon should also be the one to blame for pumping out more than 5 seasons, and FOP being one of their usual cash-cows aside from notoriously The Loud House and Spongebob(and they keep squeezing the poor sponge dry, 25 years later). Though Poof isn't a bad addition imo, the inclusion of Foop and Sparky were bad omens to come, and the final nail in the coffin was Chloe; a Mary Sue who's flawless in every way, and everyone worships her like a goddess, only for Timmy to hate the fact he shares his fairies with her(another contradiction to the show's lore in-universe where fairies can be solely given to miserable children so they'll be happy). Who knows, the reboot might actually be good. Let's just hope it wouldn't fall under the same category as Fairly Odder: the kids sitcom revival *everyone forgot* a year after it first released.

    Literally just make a new show with a new kid/godparent combo that has a different main conflict
    Get rid of all the fat, and you could do something with the idea of kids getting fairies

    If Timmy is aged 50 years... How are all the adults still alive? (Timmy's parents, even the news reporter guy) They gotta be in their 90s or pushing hundred years old at this point.
