    Thank you! My duckweed just won't grow/ grows sssllllooowww... my wife suggested that it might be the filters causing too much surface movement. Ding ding, she was right! Now I need to find a new filtration system, as I am planning on feeding this to my rabbits, goats, and chickens!

    i have "giant" duckweed. it's a bit different, and i really prefer it. now when i pull out my arm covered in duckweed i remember your video, "why i HATE duckweed" (or similar). hahaha.
    good tips. i'm fascinated you have it in every tank. anyways, now i know how to check the health of my duckweed, thanks!

    My duckweed from store dying and just trying to survive. I get a bit duckweed from wild pond outside and put it in aquarium, and it grow like crazy but duckweed from store still dying in same aquarium. Make sure you have healthy duckweed not sick.

    I got the duck weed in the mail an hour ago. It was green. I put it in my established pond/feed trough. An hour later it is white floating on the surface. I have had this trough/pond for more than a year. It has various plants and five comet goldfish. It is in full sun. Maybe the sun is killing it.

    i use 4 straws and connect them into a rectangle and let it float on the water with duckweed either inside or outside the floating barrier.

    It took you 6 minutes to explain one point. My duckweed was placed in a bowl with no movement but it still died. Surely, you could explain other possible reasons as well.

      If its just in a fishbowl with nothing else it will still need nutrients to survive.

    Ok this makes sense. We had a little bit of duck weed in our outside pond ... doing whatever we could to try and minimise algae growth... and within a week it was turning white. We have a UV filter with a water fountain attachment ... this explains it ... too much movement from the fountain! Thanks!

    well at least I'm not the only one....floating plants and stem plants all die in my tanks. I now have one new tank that one type of stem plant has lived for a couple weeks...so I get so excited

    this guy doesn't really know why its dying.. just look his tank water movement, its moving more then he says it should be moving and even his tank with a lot 05:29 is turning white and dying but he says its doing good.. whatever..

    I love duck weed too but mine is too thick to feed flakes to my fish ???

  • @pullbackbaby
    @pullbackbaby Před 2 lety

    I'm starting to think that duckweed thrives in colder tanks. My axolotl tanks the duckwheat is very very thick. It reproduces like mad. In the heated 76 to 78° tanks it doesn't grow as quickly and I've actually had some die off and heated tanks. It also does fairly well in brackish water. Overfeeding your fish may also be an ingredient in driving duckweed but it's not good for your water tolerance levels as far as the fish go. You may be right though about the surface agitation as well because the one with the die off has a hang on the back filter. There was also a massive hornwort die off at the same time. I think those plants also feed off of water nutrients. 👍🥂

    The tank shown at the 7:00 minutes has a lot of duck weed gathered where the surface is being disrupted and there is not much on the stagnant side..Why is that? Possibly because oxygen is introduced in the water at that point?

    • @ewetubin1
      @ewetubin1 Před rokem +1

      my duck weed is doin the opposite. I have a hang on back filter. The duckweed is all over on the slow side. He did mention that he needed to fill the tank up a bit. But, hey, you could be right too. I have a gentle bubbler on that side of the tank.

    my duckweed turns white and dies off, but the surface agitation isn't too bad if just a little fast, and the other plants couldn't be outcompeting it because I still get algae. Could the light be too bright for them? they usually sit on top of the filter in a little cluster bc that's where debris gets stuck- I've only spotted one with roots before.
    It's a 160L sorority tank (used to have neons but they were getting too old to deal with the bettas) and pretty heavily planted. I am at a loss of how to grow it, and it's a weed 😭😭. I can always harvest more because it's native in my country but my ego is taking a massive hit

      Did you ever solve this? It grows fine in my 40G tank but my 10G crystal red tank it dies. Im unsure if its because it has a brighter light or if its the acidic water or something.

    Ok I got some duck weed samples from my fish shop and added it to my 35 gallon tank and its doing amazing ! It's heavily planted. By accident (before even looking into it) I chnged the water flow on top to as minimum as possible and the weed just flourished! I also added some to my 75 gallon which has way more flow on top and it also seems to be taking hold.. its also heavily planted tank , but have still a fight against algea. 😢 any ideas on that ?

    How are the oxygen levels? One CZcamsr said the water surface should be moving for the fish to get oxygen. How are you accommodating for both duckweed and fish in regards to nitrates and oxygen in the water?

    • @joeyr184
      @joeyr184 Před rokem +2

      He uses sponge filters. When the bubbles pop this would help with the oxygen. Also heavily planted tanks produce enough oxygen as plants also give of oxygen.

      In my tanks once they turn white they are dead. If you garden at all I use the duckweed that I scoop out once a week and dry it out and add it to my compost or mix it into soil before I'm ready to plant.
