thanks Randy, for such an outstanding tips on fuel cabs, great to have guys like you with such knowledge, for guys like me with vintage bikes.
Utterly brilliant video. So much useful information, clearly explained. One of the best I've seen
Thanks you for your explantion of the enrichment system, it was very useful
Thanks so much Randy on the great explanation.
Excellent Video Randy, .... extremely concise and well explained, not a single "err", or "ummm" to be heard, not like a good many that try to think and talk 'on the hoof' !!
Excellent video. Thanks for the clear and useful information.
Great video! Really cleared up a lot of confusion for me!
excellent video thank you, this has really helped with my restoration project
What an excellent video, needed some info like this on the Mikuni.
Thanks Randy, great video!
thanks heaps. I found the Mikuni enriching info very helpful :)
Thanks for explaining the Mikuni carb 'Choke'. That thing had me so confused before I watched your vid.

I was looking for someone to show me how these carbs work thanks for the video
i've been running the bike with the choke on
Thank you for the insight..
Great video! I have been trying to explain that concept to many of my friends and now you have made it easy for me. Include CV segment and you will really shut me up!!!

Very helpful and useful video thank you so much
Nicely done Randy, thanks.
Thanks for watching :)
Great video! I have a Mikuni carb and the "choke" (if I can call it that) was not working, and after watching this, I realized that the passage to the starter jet was completely clogged.
Great explanation! thank you
very nice Thanks Randy

Randakk

tyvm sir, i got my problem solved
Thanks for the video, I really like my Mikuni 38 On my 1983 Harley.
Thanks for watching! :)
Boy the stuff you can learn on CZcams sometimes. Thanks Randy for making this video. Due to income I will have a future Chinese scooter. So finding out what I would think is a chock and isn't. is a real boost. (:
thank you!
Thanks..
thank you
Try not to laugh but I have just been trying to get a BSA B31 to run properly with no success it turns out I have had the choke open all along a thousand blessings to you for the video
Good vid., thanks.
Thanks , Great I'm having trouble with a 2stroke engine carb, how I see that the jet is to small. Thanks this was very helpful.
wow u got a great reply there!
thanks great video
Great instructional video. Thanks for posting this. I restored a Yamaha Phazer II snowmobile recently with twin Mikuni carbs that have the cable type plunger/spring system that you showed. I have been starting without the plungers and cable installed and it starts great. Yesterday it got down to 15 degrees and wouldn't start right up first pull like it had been. My question is, will it make the sled run poorly without the plungers installed? Based on your video it sound like without them installed I am essentially keeping the sled "choked" or enriched at all times? Problem is that it came without one of the plungers or springs. Thank you
Thanks
Exellent info
Thanks :-) Nice vid
Very informative. I am doing a restoration on an old Russian bike (IZH Jupiter) (as a learning project) and I am trying to learn about it's K36 carburator. Could not find anything on it, but your video at least give me an ideea of what parts (floater, neetles etc) should contain. I will try to "extrapolate" and see where it takes me. I will keep a youtube log so people can comment on it. Once again good video, keep up the good work.
Thanks for this vid. This really explains WHY the choke cable is missing on my Amal 930. There is a choke plug replacing it. The bike is a '57 Triumph Frame with a 62 TR6 motor with a 70 AMAL 930. Chopped and Bobbed. Bitch for me to start cold. But this explains lot.
Randy, thank you, every word is gold.
On my 78 Yamaha SR500 (4 stroke), it is still blowing black smoke (too rich), I have the needle C clip at the last notch at the top (needle is all the way down), I have turned outwards the air-fuel mix screw about 1 1/2 turn, spark plug to its proper gap, 230 main jet, what am I missing, is my (Choke) Plunger sticking making it too rich? The choke or plunger components is the only part of the carb I have not taken apart yet.Thank you
Roberto
Great video!! When Im at full throttle on my keihin carb, the choke turns on, and restricts air at high speed which is scary as the engine nearly dies!
Any idea why this happens?
You have your butler throttle up on the amal carb while you suit up and have a spot of tea.
The makuni carb has a fuel inlet , is the button and other small inlets for? Are they all only vents? Also does it run on oil mixed fuel?
I wanted to figure out how to clean my carburetor. It has been parked for about 4 months while away and when started, it started stuttering. I figure I should clean it, get fresh gas and I should be good.
Hey randy. I have a kazuma kids atv and it will run if I hold in the throttle but it just barely stays crunk. If I let off or choke it, it dies. Ive tried adjusting it but that hasn't worked. Ive alsi tried vleaning it. Any ideas on what might be wrong?
pls help..my carb start 1 kick..but i go to on road my motor shaking canot go fast full throttle like no fuel.whats the problem?
How can you identify the different types of carburetors prior to disassembly? Thanks, Dave
Great explanation of the choke on the mikuni... Now if I could just get my mikuni to fire up my bike!
Hi Randy, i installed a mikuni 28mm type 360 on my jawa 350 twin. The choke- which has 3 positions?- does not work.. so have to start the bike without- ver hard.. then if it runs and i press the choke, the engine will die within seconds. This carb does not have a separate choke jet? This cannot be normal.. any tips?
My 1984 Honda spree starts right up and idle seems good, but when I give it gas especially going up a small hill the motor bogs down and stops. I tore apart the whole carb and cleaned it with carb cleaner. drained gas tank and filled it with high octane. cleaned spark plug and gap is correct. I was told i might have a gasket leaking air some where? any sugestions?
good video, can you please tell me for what is the 2-3 holes in the carburator?dos it suck air?the holes before the trottle at front before the venturi..the holes on the side where the airfilter must come.greetz sorry for my bad english
hey Randy, could you show derllorto carbs..im having problems getting my derllorto phbg carb to make my 77 maxi puch running right..doesnt matter what the temp is it just doesnt want run right
Have you resolved this issue? blowing black smoke sometimes means you're burning oil and your engine piston gaskets are leaking.
GOOD VIDEO AND YOU HAVE THE BEST FIRST NAME IN THE WORLD MATE. I USE AMAL AIR HORNS TO DRESS UP ALL MY NON AMAL CARBS. I WISH MIKUNI OR KEIHIN HAD THREADED INTAKES FOR AIR HORNS. 5 STARS= RANDY DIOSPEED DEMON
i have a 97 kawasaki ke100 cant get the bike to idol
On my 85 Honda Rebel... it use to be you choked a cold engine to start it, tweak the choke, and once warmed up you could turn the choke fully off. I assume that is normal and makes total sense to me.
Now however, I have to choke a cold engine as before, and tweak it... but the engine seems to run best once its warm with still a bit of choke on. If I turn the choke fully off, the engine will stall out with no throttle like at a stop. I've adjusted the idle screw so it wont do that , but the engine still has a sweet spot it likes to purr and run at when warm and under power with the choke a little on.
I don't know if the Rebel has a real choke, or enrichment circuit, or both. It seems to be able to do a fast idle with choke as you described during start.
What should I adjust?
I'm trying to think maybe I made some changes inside the air box a good while back with a new filter, with maybe a filter that lets air in easier... and maybe that's why it prefers a slightly richer mix. Someone also took a broomstick and punched out the exhaust pipe internals before I bought the bike which might also be letting the air flow out more freely and make it run leaner than factory.
I'm going to check the air box tomorrow and see what I did... and if a thicker filter fixes the problem.
Think I found my problem: last top end rebuild I did I unseated the rubber pipe from the carb where it goes into the air filter box... thusly letting in some unfiltered air direct from atmosphere. I fixed the problem... have to wait until tomorrow or next drive to verify.
It also maybe the choke cable is no longer adjusted properly...
yea I got a guys 125 yamaha breeze, it will run spraying starting fluid in it, n quits, replaced the boot between motor n carb,no help. do you have to have air filter on to start it? and if that doesn't work is it the carb, cause theres no air filter on it.thanks Mike

"they didn't work that well" Nothing British works well!
I'm British, ....... I work VERY well, ...... or at least I did, until I retired :))
randy, my bike wont start , take off the air box dump a bit of fuel in there, it starts and will continue to start all day . next morning wont start . . .it is a yamaha nouvu 2 , its getting fuel to the carb (fuel line off ,crank the engine, fuel comes out) . strange thing is once i get it started it runs all day fine , starts no problem. but if it sits for more than 12 hours. it will start for a second then die and will not start for anything . .until i pour a bit of gas where the air box connects. i thought if i understood carbs with these symptoms the problem would be obvious. but perhaps not
