    Great instructional video. Thanks for posting this. I restored a Yamaha Phazer II snowmobile recently with twin Mikuni carbs that have the cable type plunger/spring system that you showed. I have been starting without the plungers and cable installed and it starts great. Yesterday it got down to 15 degrees and wouldn't start right up first pull like it had been. My question is, will it make the sled run poorly without the plungers installed? Based on your video it sound like without them installed I am essentially keeping the sled "choked" or enriched at all times? Problem is that it came without one of the plungers or springs. Thank you

The choke- which has 3 positions?- does not work.. so have to start the bike without- ver hard.. then if it runs and i press the choke, the engine will die within seconds. This carb does not have a separate choke jet?This cannot be normal.. any tips?

    Maybe the cylinder wasn't bored the last time it was apart. Just honed. You'd expect to see more wear lower in the cylinder as the piston speed is higher there. But, I expect you know that anyway !

  • @spitfeueranna
    @spitfeueranna Před 8 lety

    On my 85 Honda Rebel... it use to be you choked a cold engine to start it, tweak the choke, and once warmed up you could turn the choke fully off. I assume that is normal and makes total sense to me. Now however, I have to choke a cold engine as before, and tweak it... but the engine seems to run best once its warm with still a bit of choke on. If I turn the choke fully off, the engine will stall out with no throttle like at a stop. I've adjusted the idle screw so it wont do that , but the engine still has a sweet spot it likes to purr and run at when warm and under power with the choke a little on. I don't know if the Rebel has a real choke, or enrichment circuit, or both. It seems to be able to do a fast idle with choke as you described during start. What should I adjust? I'm trying to think maybe I made some changes inside the air box a good while back with a new filter, with maybe a filter that lets air in easier... and maybe that's why it prefers a slightly richer mix. Someone also took a broomstick and punched out the exhaust pipe internals before I bought the bike which might also be letting the air flow out more freely and make it run leaner than factory. I'm going to check the air box tomorrow and see what I did... and if a thicker filter fixes the problem.

    • @spitfeueranna
      @spitfeueranna Před 8 lety

      Think I found my problem: last top end rebuild I did I unseated the rubber pipe from the carb where it goes into the air filter box... thusly letting in some unfiltered air direct from atmosphere. I fixed the problem... have to wait until tomorrow or next drive to verify. It also maybe the choke cable is no longer adjusted properly...
