      Alot of truth to this. But in my case what drives my love is the craftsmanship its stunning it feels so different holding a Hermes bag than it does another brand for me. But not all Hermes bags work for me just like i am realising the constance is not for me ...

  • @Missfrankiecat
    @Missfrankiecat Před 5 lety +49

    The workmanship of Hermes is unparalleled but the business model is ridiculous (from the customer point of view). All these caveats on selling to in store customers, supposedly justified on the basis of 'fairness', and yet the resale market thrives on the fact that their agents are repeatedly buying in store to re-market.for profit. So the Hermes customer 'profiles' are pretty useless if truly geared to identifying and rewarding 'genuine' lover of Hermes. It doesn't sit well with me at all.

    • @Purseonfleek
      @Purseonfleek  Před 5 lety +5

      Thats true. I know the resale market is usually selling the bags scored in France. I know of a friend who scored 2 bags in a few days in France no spending required. It frustrates me because the stock they release that way in France why cant they just provide more stock to local boutiques and remove all this high profile spending to score a bag? Fair enough spending up to 4-5k in other items between bags as u are generally limited to two bags per year anyway but realistically its more than that, that i have to spend everytime i wish to acquire a dream bag. Its very annoying if they can do otherwise in France but not in other boutiques in Aus, USA etc.

      @@Purseonfleek I'm pretty sure it's not just France. I am London based, and whilst we don't have the same appointment based system the Paris stores have to allow 'tourists' to go in and potentially buy with no sales history, I am aware from contacts that Hermes deals with professional buyers here with no particular limitation on number of bags. That's actually how most minor celebs score their bags - they don't buy directly. I can't believe the same doesn't happen in New York and other big cities. The amount of stock re-sellers have to shift suggests they aren't just getting supplies from 'pretend' tourists in three Paris stores!

    H offered you multiple bags so I’m a little confused over your video a month ago. I agree that it’s good to slow down your spending so that SAs don’t see you as someone who will spend just to get the B or K. If they know you’re desperate, they’ll use your desire to fuel more sales.
    Slow down. Buy what delights you. There’s no good reason to rush. If you don’t like anything other than the B or K, buy pre loved and send it to a bag spa.

    A wealth of information thank you the one variable you didn’t talk about is age because at 61 when I walk into the boutiques it’s like Christmas in June. Everyone is so nice to me and they figure I’ve got oodles and oodles of money to spend and they offer me all kinds of bags and customer service champagne galore they don’t worry about me or send the security guards to stalk me. It’s not fair to you young girls who are so knowledgeable about these bags but on the other hand all the boys love you all the sales associates love me wrinkles and all As a sidenote your information about pre-loved markets is invaluable thank you again

    Wow. This is a powerful video. First of all, I agree with how the Purseforum (and by extension Pursebop) can literally brainwash you into liking Hermes. At one point, I was totally desensitized by their prizes, thinking Louis and Chanel were cheaper. Good thing I slapped my self out of it and, like you, found my real style with Chanel.
    My main take-away here is if you’re chasing bags from Hermes, go towards the second-hand market. It seems to me that the boutiques will totally only cater to those who have tens of thousands lying around to spend on a teacup or a saddle.
    Thank you for your honesty!

    • @Purseonfleek
      @Purseonfleek  Před 5 lety +6

      i love your reply! you are totally right with everything you said and i am glad you were able to take away from this the true facts of "cost" when it really comes to chasing a dream B/k/c but if the person is happy to buy items they like and the dream bag is a bonus thats fine but for me there was that period of time where i was buying things i like but doing it too fast in hope to get a bag and of course it just led to regret and disappointment. however i have definitely learned my lesson and doing alot better now with prioritising my H wishlist but ultimately i would never lie and I am infact chasing a bag; of course xD. I am very glad you have found your style with Chanel there is nothing like knowing what brand really sings to your heart than just buying into a lot of marketing hype and not having anything that really resonates with your style. Glad you enjoyed the video xo

    Thanks so much for sharing your story. It’s so sad what Hermès makes people go through.... yet the Kardashian’s have soooo many bags. As much as I want a Kelly, the way the Hermès company makes some people jump through the hoops and others not. I also find selling these super expensive bags scary (to do it myself) in this era of internet scammers. You’re lucky that your husband is supportive of your purchases. ❤️👍

    • @Purseonfleek
      @Purseonfleek  Před 5 lety +1

      Your concerns are perfectly normal and to be honest i share some of those same concerns and opinions too especially about the needing to jump through hoops where as for some others its effortless/easy to obtain what they most desire from the store. But of course like i say to anyone u must do what you feel comfortable doing and take the time to think whats best for your situation/what you are ok with. I have regrets no doubt like i outlined in my video but i definitely have learned from those so i wont be repeating my mistakes 😂. Also RE: my husband he doesnt like my luxury shopping at all but he trusts that i would never put our family finances at risk and knows i do what i can to earn funds to pay for my luxury purchases which also includes alot of purging luxury items i no longer use or not getting the use out of i cant justify an item sitting there looking pretty which is a big reason why i dont even have a big Hermes collection i have used and resold alot when im not in love with the item anymore 😬

    I enjoyed every single minute of your journey of Hermes. One thing I agree with you that you bought bags from outside of retail store by paying the premium . It is true that in order to get a bag, you may need to pay more than premium. I was very lucky got my first Birkin as a wonderful SA. I do want to get Kelly bag but I still afraid to approach to her. Because I am thinking maybe the second Hermes won’t be so easier. Thank You so much for sharing your journey. Love this video ❤️

    • @Purseonfleek
      @Purseonfleek  Před 5 lety

      It really boils down to relationship with the SA and the level of competition you have at the store because when the store manager decides he or she will be reviewing the profile benchmarked against the rest. In my instance i feel its alot to do with SA turn over and stiff competition that meant i had such a long wait between bags and unlucky for me i spent more than i was comfortable between bags too... But your scenario could be totally different to mine and may not be so hard but frankly i cannot deny the resale market from reputable stores is quite enticing since their prices even though with a premium arent so bad in retrospect to an unknown figure u need to spend in store to show loyalty and commitment to score a dream bag too. Alot of complexities and like I said in the video many variables so there is no one size fits all scenario but i wish you the best of luck!

      totally understandable. i was just telling someone today who reached out to my on IG my main motivating reason to post this video is because i am tired of the bullshit lies you see on social media. lots of people make it seem so easy to score a bag locally and they barely spend a thousand which i know is not the case. just many IG bloggers including the "rich" like to conceal what they really spend which causes so many misconceptions for people and really leads to people feeling disappointed when they too try to obtain a dream bag.

    • @KennyFortaleza
      @KennyFortaleza Před 5 lety

      Purseonfleek That’s quite a journey and money to be offered an Hermes B or K.. Idk if would even go there. I feel like the preloved market is my best bet for an Hermes. But good to know that it doesn’t come easy. Anyway, perseverance is key if buying in store and more money. 😅

    • @Purseonfleek
      @Purseonfleek  Před 5 lety

      @@KennyFortaleza agreed the resale market honestly is a lot easier and overall cost wise can be much less. • @Purseonfleek
      @Purseonfleek  Před 4 lety +3

      To be honest i dont deal with any consignment stores in Aus because i find the market is high priced due to less B/K/C being available here. I much prefer the Asian consignment stores , Europe or US ones. When i do consign a Hermes bag i prefer Anns Fabulous Finds in the US as they have a lower commission and a big US market of buyers. Great video, raw and honest! I recently purchased my first Birkin from a consignment shop. What I wanted, a black 30cm togo silver hardware is highly sort after, and since I don't live near an Hermes store,(no chance to build a relationship with an SA), and I didn't want to go to the mothership in Paris, get denied multiple times by the appointment system, or get an appointment only to be offered a bag that wasn't what I specifically wanted, or to be told no stock. I paid slightly over retail, for my holy grail, but I'm content. I plan to go to Europe next year for a vacation, so I will add an Evelyne to my collection( if available). I will probably get another Birkin at some point, but I will definitely go the re-sale route again. Hopefully the small bag trend tapers off, and I can get another 30cm dark neutral at or under retail. I realize now that even having/building a relationship with a SA doesn't always guarantee that one will get what they want. I think that I'll purchase items that I want in Europe, scarves, etc..but I'll hope the re-sale market as well! thank you for being honest about your journey.

      @Purseonfleek  Před 4 lety +1

      Great choice! That's absolutely right the boutique has lesser odds of offering you exactly what you want and like in my situation my first offer I was offered something great but it wasn't what I exactly what I wanted as I had kept asking for a Kelly even though I took the bag because I loved it, that feeling didn't last because it wasn't working for me nor was it my first choice it was just the boutique experience had me at bliss but that feeling never lasts - but picking exactly what you want by resale definitely gives U better chances of loving the bag forever😁

Our province has had an economic downturn and hence less people buying luxury or buying less frequently. My friend gets offered a bag every year. And I don’t feel she spends excessively on other items. Hopefully I don’t need to spend a fortune before my second. I was telling my husband your experience and he was horrified. From all of your story with them I fell like customers are not get treat like a customer. That is too stressful and a lot of work to buy a bag which is just a BAG. The design and the craftsmanship are amazing but it is not definitely enjoying experience to me. To get an offer a bag which you may not 100% love you have to force yourself go the boutique to find something to buy that help you keep relationship with their SA. And spend thousands but may not get an offer.

      You are very right. Its a real shame the artisans which i have the most respect for, for making such beautiful works of art are not the ones calling the shots on how bags should be sold. Its a drive from corporate unfortunately in most countries other than Paris FSH that spend = bag score. Its a shame they cant evaluate those who are buying for status(elite/rich) vs buying for appreciation of art and sell to those who are the latter

I would love a Kelly but I'm not playing that game. I'll get a Picotin if I find the right color and maybe a pair of shoes, but honestly that's all I plan on getting in the future (I have a few costume jewelry pieces, a belt, and an Evelyne bag already). Thank you for sharing your experience in acquiring your wish list items from Hermes. I have to say that I could feel your pain especially when you were doing all the maths! My experience so far has been rather different and I am not quite sure myself how it happened.
    I am a regular shopper (even more dedicated window shopper!) at my local luxury shopping centre which houses a number of luxury brands such as Hermes, Chanel and LV; albeit smaller stores by comparison to the major European cities near me. I have always been a fan of Hermes accessories but back in 2010 I was not at all keen on their B&K. I spent some money on their enamel bangles and shoes simply because I love them. I never asked for any bags until 2014 - I went in to request a Bleu Eletrique B30 for a friend of mine who was dying to get her hands on one. 12 months later the bag came and that was that.
    A few months after, the assistant manager contacted me to inform that the manager was going to Paris just before the summer break and if I was looking to express interest in any bags. I casually mentioned a red K32 preferably a Rouge Garance; but I was not really expecting it to happen. The following summer, they offered me a K32 in Rouge Casaque which I loved but declined and that was that. I was also then offered a black K32 the following year which I obtained.
    Anyways, I am now onto my bag no 4 which is a K28 Sellier in Noir PHW which was offered to me in April of this year - again, casually mentioned that I would love a black Kelly coz it’s easy and I reckoned I would carry it everywhere! I have to say that I have not bought anything from Hermes in the last year as I was getting a few stuff from LV so this K28 came as a pleasant surprise and totally unexpected- truth be told I had forgotten that I did mention a black Kelly to them last year!
    So far I have been offered and/or bought 1 birkin and 3 kellys since 2014. I have also requested and bought bags such as the Lindy and Halzan from my local boutique as well as ordering shoes/sandals. I have also shopped online and did get a couple of bags too. It may be imperative to mention that I am also obsessed with their 90x90 silk scarves and I do have a few of them but I don’t think this has major influence in getting offered the bags as I only started my scarves madness in 2017 (but I’m sure it helps with the subsequent requests/offers)!
    To be very frank, I don’t have a specific SA that I go to though I am friendly with most of the SA in my local boutique (it being small and all the SAs are very personable) including the assistant manager and the store manager. Whenever I go in (which is often to window shop and admire the craftsmanship, not to buy) I would say hi to all the SA (I do know them by their first names) and introduce myself to the new SA that I haven’t met before. We would chat about the craftsmanship, the quality of the beautiful items I am interested in and the history behind the designs.
    Our conversation never really leads to me asking for a bag but rather the SA would remind me to tell them if I would have any requests. I do think having a relationship with them is important but it does not have to be based on big purchases. I feel like they appreciate my love for the craftsmanship in their leather goods and silks - and perhaps that’s why they have been very thoughtful in making contact with me before each Paris trip. I do not dress up when I go in - and I am just a girl-next-door who loves bags and shoes. I find that if the SA can relate to you, you may have a better chance at striking up a genuine SA-client relationship but I wouldn’t do this so I would be offered a bag. I have truly enjoyed my experience with Hermes so far and I hope this offers a helpful but different perspective for others who are keen to purchase any of their items.

    • @Purseonfleek
      @Purseonfleek  Před 5 lety +2

      That is fantastic! I do know pre 2014 it wasnt as hard to get b/k but since you are still getting bags but not spending an arm an a leg it sounds like either
      A. the store is extremely appreciative of your long standing loyalty not only to the brand but to that store its self.
      B. The store may not have a mass of tough competition amongst clients i.e. supply and demand more easily met at that store(to put in perspective my store is in the top 20 for top grossing hermes stores Worldwide saying its beyond even cut-throat here i cant even count on my two hands the amount of clients who easily spent 130kaud+ a year on non bags)
      C. You have a fabulous relationship with the store which relates alot to (A) as well.
      D. You seem to buy items that are high Commission and signature pieces that are representative of the house e.g. silks is a quintessential H item rather than small leather goods/rodeos which barely fetch any commission for an SA
      E. Frankly i feel its a combination of everything and everyone will always have different experiences because every store is totally different i even know at my store someone who only bought a calvi went on the waitlist for a B30 neutral and got offered B30 gold ghw 3yrs later 🤷‍♀️
      No rhyme or reason 😂

But its an extremely valid point and its why i regret having spent that much since i could have used that to even pick exactly what i wanted in the resale market! Whats frustrating with Hermes is that once u spend a good amount and your SA leaves your mentality is "well i have already started my journey [with a sufficient spend] to get a bag i cant stop now or its all for nothing" - just a real shame i had continued bad luck with the next SA and not until the 3rd was i finally given a bag. This time around even though again my SA has left and im with a new one im keeping track of my spend and i will stop once i reach my threshold; bag or not i wont fall into the entrapment again if they want my continued business they will offer me a bag when i have said why i stopped 💪

    So there is no way to buy a bag at the store without a previous purchase?

    • @Purseonfleek
      @Purseonfleek  Před 4 lety +1

      Its possible at FSH Paris ! But as far as i know other boutiques require prespending or some in tourist locations require you to spend at least 60% of the cost of the bag on other items(excluding bags) and then u will get an elusive bag on same day. From what i have heard thats Hawaii and korea but it also depends on who the SA is, it may not always work.

    My fave bags are the K25 gris asphalt and K25 rose Jaipur. Both bought resale ~2k/each over retail vs 22k+ from store w/o a bag! Looks like outside Paris, buying from the store is not worth it.

    • @Purseonfleek
      @Purseonfleek  Před 4 lety

      It's very true you do typically need to spend more in store than what's required in resale these days..that's why I film these honest videos because I feel people should be able to make a fair choice whether they love buying other Hermes items and then the reward of getting the elusive bag(which in my case I don't mind doing that pending they don't draw the blood from me which is what they had done so after my first bag and that annoyed me) or if the person just rather go straight to resale market pick what they want pay a few thousand over retail because there isn't much else they want to buy from the boutique.

    Thanks for sharing your experience. I can totally relate with you and im glad we are not alone. I was wondering where do you sell your bag? Do you have to ship your bag outside of Australia in order to prep for selling? Im worried that it will get damaged prior to selling and the value will just go down. Or they will return it after purchase etc. thanks for your help. Maybe a video on how to sell your bags, and tips out there for those contemplating on selling their birkin or kelly.

      Purseonfleek that would be very helpful. Like you i am still continuing to chase that dream hermes bag and still waiting for my SA to email me this month as I am on my 6th month mark and hve surpassed the 1:1 and still nothing

    • @Purseonfleek
      @Purseonfleek  Před 5 lety +1

      @@mommybirkinlife1546 has it been 1:1 on items not including bags(like pico eve etc)? If so i would suggest send an email and say you are going to take a break from shopping for a bit until a dream bag comes as even though u have more items on your wishlist you feel you have spent a considerable amount at the store and if she can please try to get approval from the SM for your dream bag soon?
      I have found just outright asking when you have spent a decent amount works but in my instance when i spent a decent amount my SA would change so i at least had to spend a little to build some relationship but if you have done 1:1 with the one SA thats more than enough to start pushing for a bag now...

    So what if you were to get offered a bag, but you aren’t crazy about the color, so you turn it down. Does this hurt your future chances? Im worried I will get offered a non-practical color. Or is everyone’s first Hermes boutique offer usually a unique color? Im starting to do my research.

Yes absolutely this is important be very clear about your style even show her photos of your purse collection thats what i do and i talk about new upcoming colours that i really like. All these paint a great picture for her/he to understand whats your style because essentially they dont want to get it wrong either because they need to get SM approval to release the bag to you also. Best of luck!

    The marketing/selling techniques Hermes uses is more than annoying for customers I agree, but it’s what allows them to value their bags so high and sell them for such exorbitant prices. If they just sold to everyone and had the same process as other fashion houses, they’d lose a lot of the value they’ve worked so hard for🤷🏻‍♀️

    I think the most important thing is patience. I did lose quite a bit with my Kelly but it’s lesson learnt. Unlike others I don’t get angry about the system and I don’t mind buying preloved anyway and I still stood by the quality. The quality and the exclusivity is unparalleled

    I really loved watching this video -- that you really go into the preloved and resellers. My first Hermes was a vintage piece and not a Birkin or Kelly because they looked so large on me. What always makes me giggle is that at the boutique, I got completely ignored as if I wasn't there, then my husband goes in and is oblivious to it all, and the SA's were extremely helpful to him and showing him anything he asked to see for me. I was literally standing outside watching this go down. I haven't gone back to the boutique, I just give my husband my card and let him go in hahahaha. I always end up back to Chanel's boutique because I love the SA I have there, and look for preloved and resales with Hermes.
