Just ordered a Gs1300 Trophy and I can tell you it will mainly be used for road touring and gravel roads and Starbucks for everything else I ride a 2022 KTM 690,
At 61 years of age the lighter and cheaper bike is more suited for me in the bush.

The Automated Shift Assist is an option on the new GSA. So you will be able to have a clutch.

Adventure Goldwing. Perfect description of the new BMW. However same can be said of the 1250. At least when you look at how users use them. You and big rock are not the target audience. The target audience is the dentist that’s never ridden a motorcycle in his life. He’s in his 40s, 50s and wants to feel cool again and ride with his buddies down the road of his gated community. He puts maybe 1000 miles on the bike a year. He’s perfectly happy spending $40k for the bike and all the gear to go along with it. The bike will absolutely never see a lick of dirt.
While I’m not the ideal audience I do fit this pretty well. I picked the bike for a few reasons. I wanted something that was fuel efficient to ride around town with, easy to bounces around traffic and get into small areas with. I drive around town looking for houses to flip and the bike is great for that. I wanted something that was actually fun to drive not a Prius. I also wanted it to travel to existing construction sites that may be up to 40 miles apart. Lastly I wanted it to be able to take camping. I go to various expos on the east coast of the US and the bike is great for those. I can camp cheap, ride cheap there and back and I tend to go to those alone. The bike is great for the long road to get to where I’m going to camp and get me to the camp site once the pavement ends. It’s also small so I can fit in a space that’s maybe only big enough for a ground tent but not a car or truck. Long road comfort was most important to me, then second was the ability to go slightly offroad and do that pretty well. I’m not trying to do BDRs or serious offroad anything. In fact if I got to a spot that I knew the bike could handle but was rough, I’d still go around. I’m not risking the bike, or my body. So I stated to big rock moto that I thought his audience was not the target audience for the asa but it might just be. I’d imagine that a large majority of your guys audience are “posers” so to speak. I don’t necessarily mean that in a bad way but a way to easily describe the audience. Now I could be completely wrong there. However I do mostly think this. I think a lot watch your videos and say I’m going to do that and probably mean it but never actually do. So when they face that next upgrade they may just say well I like my bike but not having to shift sounds pretty nice. Since they haven’t been offroad at all in their previous bike they may just go that route.

To me the new GSA1300 is just another ugly BMW design...on the heels of typical BMW messed up marketing. As a 56 year old experienced off-road rider, I will never own a bike for on or off road without a clutch. A clutch is the control connection to the bike, its beyond me how a bike can be controlled effectively(especially off-road) with out a clutch.....

I own a 2016 GSA. My offroad is fire trails and I even road it to Prudhoe Bay. That's the offroad I like, not necessarily the BDRs. At 63, I am taking Ian's advice and getting 1 bike that does everything. Selling my K1600 and Road Glide and having just 1 bike (sans my XR650L) to do it all. It's 200 lbs lighter, can do it all, tons of luggage capacity and well thought out cinching. Personally, I like all the new tech and the looks is definitely growing on me. It will definitely suit the 98% on road I do. The only thing I fear is first year production gremlins, but I ain't getting any younger to wait another year.

I'm in the same boat. That is my style of riding. I rode my Pan America to Prudhoe last year. I sold my two Harleys and bought a 2023 GS Adventure that I am riding to Prudhoe Bay next year. I love the GSA and am kinda digging the 1300 GS Adventure. I'm still unsure about not having a clutch lever, but will hold judgement until I ride it.

@@rso1411 Awesome, my plan too is to go back to AK next year. Maybe not PB but other places I had no time to see. My understanding is that the GSA will be offered with a regular clutch with speed assist pro, or you can option the ASA. I'm not that old yet where I want to lose the clutch action 🤣

I'm Sorry, but the Spirit of the GS Adventure was never for real hardcore off-roaders, the true spirit of the GSA was and still for the long range travelers who needs to carry a lot of stuffs, be confortable as a rider and a passenger, and a bike that you can get in some track paths without caring about damaging the bike... So yes, the GSA was and still a Goldwing capable to cross path tracks, rock roads, and little rivers with all your gears!!!
it make me laugh when people talk about offroad and GSA in the same time!! this bike is heavy and big as hell, when you get your gear in it as panniers etc, it turns to a monster huge bike, who on earth do real offroad on a GSA?!!!
for real offroad, you need a 21" front tires, a narrow, lightweight, and flexible with a huge ground clearance bike, that what you need for offroad!!! BMW have a few models for that, the most popular for long offroad travels is the Yamaha Ténéré 700, Honda TRANSALP or the Suzuki V-STROM 800!!! not a GSA, even if you get it to the paths without any panniers of accessories to pretend that you have solved the problem of weight and flexibility of movements, it still absurde!!!!
The new GSA respond to all the needs for a real traveler, it's more compact than the earlier model, better as ergonomics design, far advanced in options, better luggage storage ideas, better in everything.... and it will sale as hell!!!

      Hi,
I never had the intention of directing my comment at your own person, but I spoke generally about the GSA.
You are an Adventurer Rider with a dream bike as the GSA, the Enduro gives this feeling that the no Adventurer riders can ever feel or understand even the most experimented ones, so just enjoy your time with the bike you like, it's not up to me or anyone else to juge what you are doing and how!!
I was talking in general about the connection between the GSA and the Enduro field, I'm not those pseudo journalists who spend there time in 5 stars hotel invited by BMW to give great review of their new motorcycles, but a realistic riders who ride Enduro/Dirt and know about the majority of the bikes out there!!
YES, the BMW have this balance that especially new riders admire, but in the world of big Enduro bikes, it's the worse one and by far between all the existing similar bikes, for example the next most popular bikes as the Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally or the Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer put the GSA on the shame in every aspect related to Enduro or even on asphalte roads, and the absolute KING was, still, and would be, is the KTM 1290 Super Adventure R who's extremely confident in rocky tracks, the Rider Know and feel where the front tire will go, as getting the confidence in the great suspensions to push all his limits....
The GSA can't climb, can't turn, and can't handle harsh obstacles!! power loss, skating especially on stony slopes, etc of many problems, it's just an elevated confortable touring bike with a lot of protections for it's body!!!
I really hope to see you on the upcoming KTM 1390 R in the future :)

Being “baffled” Is a good phrase, but regardless of what one thinks the reality is that these bikes are getting very expensive. They’ve never been cheap, but now they’re going from expensive to very expensive. I have a 2017.5 GS Rallye and the nearest 1300 to my bike is close to $39K Australian dollars, and that’s without luggage. So over 40K. Eye watering stuff.

BMW loves to bring us technology, right or wrong. The short lived Servo brakes live in infamy. I find it off putting, but I think it looks interesting. Probably better in the metal than in pictures.

With ya I do agree that most don’t take the bikes on true off-road scenarios. Most just ride loose pavement. New bike yup it’s a rhino I would ride one with a clutch not the auto stuff.

The looks, in my eyes, are awful. I am sure they will sell, but I won't be one of those plunking down the cash for one. The standard GS 1300 in the Trophy trim is starting to look a lot better haha. For now my 2021 R1250 GSA will do just fine and I won't be offended by it every time I look at it.

Vile looking thing. A turd, no matter how well it goes. For myself, spending on a premium bike includes great looks, which this just does not have. 1250gsa likely my last one if BMW keep on this ugly track.... the std 1300gs is almost as bad... ugly, cheap looking, and too small.
