We got the horseless carriage to the vernacular terminus for a thrup'eny bit, watched some bear baiting in the tynecastle pleasure gardens and then wiped the floor with the geordie muck snipes 14 to 5. It took us 3 days to get back to Liverpool on the SS Great Britain and I contracted a nasty dose of syphilis. Halcyon days.

It always surprises me how many people you can pack into a small stadium, my local team (that since sadly went bust) could have fit a theoretical 9000 people despite the gates being about 1000 and the place looking packed at 5444 during the 2007 FA Cup.
This is such a great clip, it's excellent to have such early video footage of the sport and not only that it's of very good quality considering it's age.

What a great video. Shows some of the weird differences back then from today, such as the 6 yard semicircle, but more than anything it's the similarities that are so striking. A guy falling over injured, his team mates helping him out before his begrudgingly rises to his feet and limps off, giving the opposition dirty looks. People out to watch their local team play, just like they do today, 109 years on. Incredible
