The grandfather of all gridiron football is the game between Harvard vs McGill. Later they go back to their nation, and morphed to American and Canadian football
Bro why couldn’t have put this out a year ago. I did a speech on this and had to do soo much research because like you said their isn’t a lot of documentation. It made me happy that we had a really similar timeline though
Come on, what you really wanted to say was "I didn't really want to do all the leg work so I would have just plagiarized the HELL out of this video!!!!!" ;-)
Technically, the Triangles are currently the Indianapolis Colts, the Dodgers merged with the Yanks in 1945, then the Yanks folded six years later, and all players went to a new team called the Dallas Texans. The same thing happened after the 1952 season, but this time, the players moved to a new team called the Baltimore Colts. After the 1983 season, the Colts moved to Indianapolis, and the team has been there ever since.
I'm from Dayton. The NFL was supposed to fund a football stadium at the site where the first NFL game was. However, it was discovered that the site was an ancient Native American burial ground, so they are working on securing another site for the stadium
Football was born in Paraguay. The Guarani had been playing before America was discovered and then the Freemasons saw it as a business opportunity they took it out of them. There were Freemasons infiltrated among the Jesuit missionaries like today. It was at the Freemason's tavern in London that they created the rules based on Guarani football. Everyone already knows that the English always stole ideas or inventions from others.
Man you can't disrespect my boy Teddy Roosevelt like that and not talk about how he enforced the changes to football to make it more like the sport we know today.
My dad went to Rutgers. He liked to tell me how the 1st college football game was played there. Because I was little and he was ‘old’, for many years I assumed he had been at the game!
I recently watched Leatherheads, and understanding that it’s movie that self admittedly isn’t an accurate depiction of early football, I became very interested in the birth of football in the US. Thank you for this informative video.
Well he did win the 2001 AFC championship game. I think he would've won the three Super Bowls before being traded somewhere and then Tom Brady takes over as starter and still becomes a star.
Hey, KTO! Can you do a video on the 3 QB duels between Steve Young and Jim Kelly? All 3 games (2 USFL + 1 NFL) are certainly worth a mention and are incredibly entertaining, especially "The Greatest Game No One Ever Saw" and the "No Punt Game."
Hey KTO. I currently play for the Watertown Red & Black, ever heard of us? We are the oldest football organization in the United States, first Fielding a team in 1896. We are amateur, or semi pro as most people call us. Would love to see a video about this historic team, and share us out world wide!!
From a former football player and Daytonian, I'd like extend a HUGE THANKS to you KTO...awesome video, hope to see more in the near future! You're the best!
The football helmet was invented a half a block away from where I was born and the first ever pro game was played in Latrobe between the Greensburg Athletic Association and Latrobe Athletic Association at what is now the the Steelers training grounds.
I heard that the dayton triangles somehow sort of exist as the Indianapolis Colts today through a long complicated history of their entire rosters getting acquired by different teams
As a school kid we used to play a version of Mob Ball called Dirty Hunch. A basketball would be taken "out" by a volunteer far from the basket, and they would have to run the gauntlet of other kids kicking their ass while trying to shoot or layup the ball into the basket. If they miss, whoever caught the ball would be the next victim. Nobody really wanted the ball, they just wanted the opportunity to beat up the person who had the ball lol.
Another great video! You do an amazing job telling the story. I've gone back and watched many of them since I first saw your video on RGIII. I'll definitely hit them all. Like NFL Life and 30 for 30 you have the ability to keep me interested in a story I never thought I'd be interested in. Keep it up KTO!
Canadian football has retained a lot of its rugby roots; the field is longer and wider; the goalposts are at the front of the endzone; unlimited motion by eligible receivers; players can kick the ball forward, rugby-style, at any time, and any player on their own team that is behind them is ‘onside’ and can recover the kick. A short play clock and frequent changes of possession also helps the game flow a lot more quickly, like rugby.
I was under the impression that the different football related games we have around the world ... from rugby, to Australian Rules, to Canada to the USA ... all came about because there was a disagreement on what the rules and structure of "association football" were, in that there was very little communication at the time. I recall reading that, at the time, American Football was distinguished from Association Football by calling it "Soc Ball" and this later morphed into calling it "soccer." Thanks for shedding light on how it more likely came about, and the role that Walter Camp played. I do think "soccer" did play a role (11 a side, the size of the field and ball. Original American Football was round)
Curly Lambeau is the single most important man in the history of Green Bay, having grown up there I know his story by heart. Interestingly, my great-grandmother is believed to have went on a date with him when they were both in high school.

Should have started this video with the Cardinals as their team began playing organized games back in 1899 almost 20 years before the Packers were even an idea. The got their name (Cardinals) from the color of the jerseys they bought off of the University of Chicago team.
this game was crazy, fun fact: there was a kid in the crowd who was being bullied by the opposing teams fans, when a player by the name of Gardner Minshew pulled him aside and said “don’t let them bully you, someday you can be strong like me!” that child’s name.. was Tom Brady
KTO, can we have another what if? I know it’s a ton of work, but they’re seriously awesome. One idea for you: What if Elway played for the Colts? I know the N-if-L has probably down that, but you go much more in depth. Thanks so much.

I really want Ken Burns to make a series on American Football.

Before I watch this video I just want to say Walter Camp invented football.
He's responsible for like 2/3 of the basics. John Heisman's invention of the forward pass is probably the other third.
