    This would be a good bag for me to tote my English Paper Piecing gear around in. With the pocket dividing the inside I could put my round rotary cutting mat and rulers and templates on one side, spare template papers in the zip section and the other side could hold my pencil case type bag with needles, thimble, thread etc. I like the idea that my cutting mat and rulers won't be flopping around in the bag so much. Thank you, I really enjoyed the tutorial. Love your videos.

    Hi Debbie, this is a very cute bag. However, I’m going to make another one, its your big bag. I’ve lost count how many of them I have made. I love them, so do my customers.
    I hope you and your family has done well through our strange country ordeal.
    We have stayed busy in the yard. Fixing to cut down about a dozen trees. Oh we have a lot of them in our back yard. I don’t want anyone to think bad of getting rid of them. Most of them are so close to the house. We’re afraid a big limb will take out half of the house. Anyway you can tell I haven’t been doing a lot of sewing lately. But going to Las Vegas NV in Oct. so I will get my bags all made before then.
    Debbie I will save this bag for a later date. But definitely will make it. Thanks so much and have a wonderful day.

    Hi Debbie, I just finished making this bag and I have a couple of questions regarding the measurements/materials. I messaged you via your FB page but haven't heard back, so I decided to ask about the measurements to a sewing group I belong to on FB. There was a fair amount of confusion, but one sewer suggested I ignore the 'Materials' list and just put the bag together using the 'Cut' measurements, so that's what I did and I am happy to say it worked.
    For anyone else who will be making this, perhaps you can clarify what the 'Materials' list means, particularly why would anyone need to cut a 19"x16" piece for the outer top fabric, or a 19"x10" for the outer bottom, and lastly, the 28"x46" for the lining? Also, in the 'Materials' list, it appears you forgot to account for the handles.
    I was determined to learn how to add a dividing pocket and I've accomplished that so thank you.
    One more thing...what is the final measurement of this bag?

    Lovely little bag. I saw some one using paper at the beginning of their sewing. They put it under the end of the material, so it covered the feed dogs and sewed, no snagging. At the end of sewing they just ripped of the paper. It’s a great and cheap way of avoiding snags. It worked better than scraps of material for leaders.

  • @4golfing
    @4golfing Před 4 lety

    Look great. For those who do not want to do bias trim, you could do a slip pocket on the inside, leaving a large opening on bottom of the pocket. Then you could sew the bag around the top, inside out, then turn it through the opening in the pocket. /After turning, you can sew the pocket bottom which will not show, and do some topstitching on the top of the bag on the outside.

    Can't beat navy and white for a classic and classy summer look! I'm glad you got caught up with the needle chomping the edge of the fabric! I thought it was just me! Drives me insane! I'm always doing that! Sometimes so bad it gnarls up inside the bobbin area and forms a giant lump I have to cut out! But...maybe, perhaps, well ok probably, it may be that my needle is blunt and forcing the fabric downwards rather than poking through it easily! 🙄 Can I remember the last time I changed my needle...? Wait! What? We're supposed to change them? I tend to only do it if the needle breaks! I know, I know... But I don't sell things I make, they're only for me or family, and they always look ok... I wouldn't give them away if they didn't! I'm a contrary Mary really, because I'm my own biggest critic, I see only my mistakes glaring at me instead of what I've made, I'm never 100% satisfied with anything I make, I'm meticulous about neatness and symmetry etc etc... Yet I use so many shortcuts that are potentially project ruining! Talk about setting yourself up to fail! I'd love you to demonstrate free motion using a standard sewing machine! I've watched a few but I tend to always refer back to you! 😊 I'm not particular about learning to do perfect quilting stitching or elaborate patterns, just some random freestyle wiggles for journal covers etc. If you've already done a tutorial on that, could you please link it for me? I have looked but didn't see one...? Thank you Debbie! You really are the best sewing teacher on here! You always make beautiful things that look complicated, yet break it down into easy, pretty much "beginner" steps! 😘😘😘

      Re needle chomping edge of fabric: I recently discovered the beauty of leaders and footers - always begin and end your seam with a spare square of fabric - you chain stitch so that you never get that chomping and you waste much less thread! If is my new favourite sewing hack.

    I made 3 rag quilts (very thick). Needle broke. Good tip.

    I was wondering if you could use double needle to sew top stitch? Using an embroidery/rayon thread to add contrast like seams on jeans? Really loving your videos! I’ve got 25m of mixed saree fabric coming from India. I’m so excited to use it for your projects. I want to raise money for the Little Princess foundation, they provide wigs for young people suffering hair loss from cancer and other illnesses. I’d like to gift them little bags with some handmade hair accessories. It will look so beautiful quilted and made into your bag designs. My brother scan and cut is amazing at cutting out my pieces that have been ironed onto stabiliser. I’m only now working on structured items, from dressmaking. It’s not as easy as you make it look!

    I have made all my clothing for all my adult years; with some exceptions and I can put zippers in with my eyes closed; but bags are a bit different.
