    I've replaced numerous higher end condensing units with Goodman's over the years. I add a new dryer, low pressure control, high pressure control and a time delay for the compressor. I've never had a failure and they are all still running. Many of my estates have multiple systems. The only time I don't do this is when the condensing units are very visible then I replace the bad one with matching manufacturers to keep the homes value and to keep home inspectors from including negative comments to the new purchasers.

    You do nice work and your videos are great. I do have one comment to make and it's that your torch is definately not hot enough. You need to get your copper cherry red then apply brazing rod and it will flow like water INTO the joint and not puddle on top. Your getting a cold braze and when you come around with the torch you are only melting the sil-fos and not really getting the joint to temp. Does that work? Obviously yes, as you don't have any leaks. Is that efficient? No as it wastes time and more time to repair a leak if one shows up. Watch how coils are manufactured and you will see the connections are cherry red no problem. When I started brazing, I was afraid to get them that hot, but it's much better to get in fast and hot, make your braze, and get out. Harris has a nice temp chart showing the recommended temps and colors to achieve a good braze temp.

  • @AllEnemiesForeign_AndDomestic

    The scroll compressors in those units will keep spinning while trying to start under a load like an engine reving. This wears out the pump. The refrigerant plus the length and size of line set is what creates the load that the pump in the compressor has to start up against. Hence the name Hard Start Kit.

    The reason your ac compressor are failing is because the condenser/compressor is higher than the air handler/evaporator. When it is run like that oil that comes out of the compressor with the refrigerant settles down in the lower part of the system, in this case the evaporator. Normally the little bit of oil that comes out of the compressor with the refrigerant is returned to the compressor. Oil traps need to be installed on a system like this. If you open your txv nut you will find oil in the lines.

      Goodman’s come with a filter drier factory installed inside the unit. Double filtering isn’t the end of the world as your drop through the filter is minimal. Unless your line set is really long.

    Those of us who do property management or rental properties have to do what we have to do. 9/10 times we have first company air handlers, and we can't just get a matched unit- plus these little 1.5-2.5 ton units are hard to get sometimes. They cost less than replacing a compressor, thats why we do it. I have put almost every brand in place of every brand with zero issues. The only one is the ICP 2 ton--avoid those like the plague- the compressors are LG and they fail. Great video, I'm right out there doing the same thing day in day out.

    The compressor quality is the main component to consider when selecting a condensing unit. Goodman has better compressors according to some dealers ?

    • @ApartmentMaintenancePro
      @ApartmentMaintenancePro  Před rokem

      I don’t see that. The reason I don’t like Goodman is there condensing coils leak in the same spot and the protective aluminum frame is loud and obnoxious. I’ve never had a problem with the compressors which are also used in many other brands

    • @zack9912000
      @zack9912000 Před rokem

      They are not any different for brand to brand with Copland compressors for the most part. The coil design and thickness of the material is where goodman cheapens out on.

    • @tckr4883
      @tckr4883 Před rokem

      Yeah the undersized (in my opinion) 1/4 line out of the condenser coil and the internal filter drier are my biggest complaint…Copeland compressor is solid.

    • @mtsaz100
      @mtsaz100 Před 10 měsíci

      copeland in goodman is better than copeland in a brand X? no- they are the same. Its more about what is available and what we can get. The new units are total junk. I have had no problems with new goodmans, but big problems with almost every other brand---mostly leaks.

  • @AaronPowellvox
    @AaronPowellvox Před rokem +3

    That’s not a king valve. A king valve is the kind of valve that has no schrader valve in the ports and you have to tighten a stem to open the ports. Lol. It’s just a service valve. I know you know but I just thought I’d say it. Great work installing that though.

    the compressor and indoor coil are the two failures that can warrant replacing entire system. to me it doesn't make sense to replace outdoor unit but leave a aging coil. it makes more sense to replace both indoor and outdoor sections and be good for hopefully 15+ years or just the compressor.

    • @ApartmentMaintenancePro
      @ApartmentMaintenancePro  Před rokem +3

      I doubt there will be a restriction. I have seen a liquid line drier restriction I think once in 20 years…But you are correct about the filter drier, it should have been removed and I showed the guys helping me this. Unfortunately there wasn’t enough play in the liquid line as there was no 3/8” copper on site and I don’t have a P-card or a Johnstone account to pick any up. I also wasn’t able to do an acid test which is something I like to do on grounded units. After this repair I ordered the property 50ft of 3/8” copper piping and you best believe I’m cutting 15 ft of that and stocking it in my ride, as I service multiple properties. Thanks for watching 👍

    • @ApartmentMaintenancePro
      @ApartmentMaintenancePro  Před 11 měsíci +1

      There’s R22 alternatives out there but you should get the refrigerant leak fixed first. The brand isn’t as important as the skill level of the installer. A good install and the cheapest unit will last 15 years (unless you live near the ocean

      Customers get a five year warranty with a new condensing unit. The price of condensing units has accelerated since the pandemic but in the old days, a new unit only cost a little more than a new compressor plus a compressor is a lot more labor to replace especially on the newer condensing units.
