I have “Neumann’s universe” on my backyard and it is a great place to work.

He didn’t care about the company “philosophy” or of “higher consciousness,” he was all about seeing just how far he could push the envelope with all of the people in his path, especially the people that mattered. He charmed them with his unflinching self-confidence, and his crazy “fun” personality and his only goal was to see how far he could get. While Im sure it bothers him immensely that he is no longer a part of the company, he is riding high on the fact that he was able to do what he did. He even ends up far better off financially than most people. Our society makes people of his kind like “Gods,” and the truth is, these people are con artists, manipulative, and self-serving. There is nothing “Godlike” in their actions or sentiments. They are wolves in sheep”s clothing. One last comment, he is and will not ever take responsibility for the real part he played in the company. He will spin everything that happened by an explanation that he was innocent and was fired at great loss for the company, and basically that only he had this great vision that the other investors did not have and that eventually the company would have grown had he stayed at the helm, even though that was nor would be the case. The Theranos company leader is very similar and to her, it was all about the fact that she “made it, “sure she didn’t “keep” it, but that’s not what matters to them. It was that they wanted to become worth billions, that was their goal. It’s not even about the money. Power and high status were what they were really going after. Interesting that it’s cloaked in language that sounds like they are going to “help man” and “help the world” by their companies. Which of course they will retort to when asked why. They will retort to the fact that their “ends” somehow justified their means.

I do NOT look up to people like that nor should anyone else but in todays culture people are mesmerized by them. It seems as if the end, (making billions), is achieved, it doesn’t matter the means. We couldn’t live in a world where people don’t care what it takes to get where they want to go, and use any means necessary and so “use” others and any other tricks (like total self-confidence) to achieve it. He could only exist because of the greed of others. Banks and investors gave him billions. If they did that because he's "charming" then they deserve to lose it. But thats not why they did it. They played the valuation game. Employees gave wework their time and lower salaries for stock options thinking they were going to be microsoft secretaries, and not have to work their entire adult lives. Greed is present at every level including the public rabidly looking for a hot stock so they dont have to work their entire lives. Personally, anyone with a 401K is part of the system, and a step further, anyone that is an American has benefited from how this system works as it has elevated this country over all others. 20+ trillion in debt- we literally print our own money as we need it! Did anyone here send back their "stimulus" money? I doubt it. We are all part of the "problem".
So, as easy as it is to point the finger at Adam Neumann, remember that he only exists because we allow it as a society and culture. Money aside, wework has been a boon to the people that were able to use those spaces and what is the longterm value generated by all of those people? Is there one person who sat in a wework and built a billion dollar company by starting there? I dont know, but there is more happing then wework losing money, which will change over time.

You'd grow cocky and you don't learn until you learn the lesson. He just didn't have enough business knowledge or experience.. and he wasn't lucky enough to encounter someone who convinced him what he was doing wrong. People most close to him were probably also drunk with money! Money blinds you, it's a human weakness... But in reality most startups fail, they try again a few times until they succeed. Several thoughts on Adam Neumann:
    1. He gave the best possible answers to the toughest questions. He was very well prepared for this interview.
    2. Their competitor Regus, who was in business 30 years before WeWork, could never understand their valuation. WeWork succeeded in building a great hip office where entrepreneurs met each other for $500 per month, way better than working out of house every day.
    3. All the crazy stories he wrote off as good "Hollywood stories."
    4. His explanation for Community Adjusted EBITDA was hilarious. Since they were so cool that they had to give financial accounting terms cool names. Sorkin gave him a complete pass with this explanation and all others given by Neumann.

If Neuman could have "slowed his roll" a bit and maintained at least a loose connection to reality, he would have remained CEO of a fresh and exciting business that provides offices for remote workers.

He has domain knowing of this tendency in people and he makes maximum use of it.
