For the GMAT quant, she spent 30 days preparing before the exam. She has been tutoring for GMAT verbal for the last 10 years. So, she did not do anything extra in terms of preparing for the GMAT verbal other than taking 4 GMAT mock tests.

I have given cat and got just 88 percentile.. I am preparing for gmat..my accuracy is quant is ok but in verbal (including rc,cr and sc) is approximately 68-70 percent in all three. I practice verbal with a timer and at a go practice 36 questions from GMAT og. At a later stage(to the end of GMAT og questions) my accuracy has dropped to 60 percent, probably they are getting tougher..What should I do? How many correct questions approx I need in verbal for a near about 40 score in verbal?

Hello Sai! 2 questions 1. In which mock tests did you get this verbal score. Is it the official MBA.com tests - they are the most representative. In case it was some other test, take one of the free tests available on mba.com. The numbers you get there are from the horse's mouth. 2. In the tests that you have already taken, in which of the 3 sections of verbal are you scoring the least? Is it SC or CR or RC?
Do you have the ESR for the real GMAT that you took? If so, can you please send it by mail to me? If you have not got the ESR, please apply for the ESR. It helps in making sense of how the last attempt went and plan for the next one.

However, we always end up focusing on reading speed. One suggestion, please widen your daily reading habit. The more varied the subjects you read in a day, the better you can train yourself to comprehend different information. Take it as an exercise for the next 20 days. During the first 10 days, pick articles from scientific american dot com. It is a brilliant source for a great variety of topics. After about 10 days, include doaj.org to the mix. Each day, make it a habit to read at least 10 articles. How do you go about the exercise? Count only those articles that you read when you could do it with at most focus. So, if you read articles while travelling and or eating, do not count that toward your 10. After reading the article, close it and take a minute to recap what the article was about, how the article was structure and key points from it. If you have the time, and highly recommend that you find the time, paraphrase it in 50 words. Do this exercise meticulously for 20 days and then take another mock and check whether you have had improvement in your RC attempts and accuracy. Please report your progress after 20 days so that we can take this discussion further.

GMAT has scales scores for the quantitative and verbal sections. The range is 0 to 60 for both sections. The maximum possible score for each section is 51. A scaled score of 50 in quant is usually referred as Q50 and a scaled score of 47 in verbal is referred as V47. It is natural to feel tense and underprepared especially when you have a lot riding on the test. However, you probably know more than you think you do. Here are some things you can do to boost your confidence - quiz yourself on fundamentals. For example, you can try revising grammar rules or quant formulae. Try to do so without referring to notes. What is an angle bisector? If the noun is singular, should the verb be singular or plural? Start with your strong areas and as you answer more and more of the questions you pose yourself correctly, your confidence will build back up. You can do that for anything - for example, you can mentally walk yourself through weaken question strategy in CR. Where you feel the need to, do look through your notes. Also look through your error log and mock analysis and give yourself do's and don'ts to remember. Finally, listen to some music and get a good night sleep. You got this!
