André René Roussimoff was born in a small farming community in Grenoble, France to Boris and Marian Rouismoff. His parents and four siblings were all of normal size, but André suffered from acromegaly, a hormonal disorder that results when the pituitary gland produces excess growth hormone. As the Giant grew up (very quickly, as he reached the height of 6' 3" by the age of 12) he began to often disagree with his parents. He left home at 14 and obtained a job with a furniture-moving firm and began to play rugby. At 17 he was seen training at a gym by several professional wrestlers. Impressed by his size, they taught him some basic wrestling skills and built a friendship with him. Later, when one of the wrestlers was injured, André stepped in for him. He would wrestle for nearly thirty more years. By his early 20s André had wrestled in Algeria, South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, England, Scotland, and most of non-Communist Europe but had not found fame. In 1971 he came to North America under the name Jean Ferre and was mildly popular in Canada. Then he met a New York based booker by the name of Vincent J. McMahon (often incorrectly referred to as "Vince McMahon Sr") who renamed him "Andre the Giant," and billed him as 7' 4" (Andre was really closer to 7'). Soon Andre the Giant became a national sensation and was a much sought after wrestler. In addition he participated in television, movies, and commercials. With his wealth the Giant bought a ranch in Ellerbe, North Carolina where he would live during his rare time off and after he retired from wrestling in 1990. He died while in France after attending his father's funeral. André was cremated and his ashes were spread across his ranch. He is survived by his one daughter.
Don’t make up false histories and out and out lies
Andre did not invent something he introduced to them backwoods folks
It’s impossible because he was NOT born yet when it was first created in Algeria back in 1840’s 🤦♀️
It was a joke . A stupid joke. Who would possibly believe that?
And the people that live out there are not “backwoods “ folks. They’re regular hard working people like everyone else , and every person I met in that town was sweet…and had a great sense of humor.
Good lord.
biggest clown comment of the day. Are you serious?
Some people definitely can't take a joke scott, and for the disrespectful comments 😏 got nothing good to say move on
He even said they made it up if you listen.
Some people just suck , pay him no mind Scott
"Stop it now I mean it, Does anybody want another Peanut" Great line from The Princess Bride
I did not realize Andre lived in Ellerbe all those years. I currently live in Sanford NC just up the road from there. I'll have to visit that area and get a Dixie burger for sure.
Definitely you should!
Andre the giant was bigger than life and not just in stature, he was a real kind and loving man.he was born in grenoble France. He was and still is the best in my book he is still my favorite, i am from Pittsburgh big john stud was a friend of mine his mother owned and ran a nice ice cream stand and i worked in the stand for a few seasons till she died, big john stud passed from cancer
If only there was a way to find out when he actually died, in 2023, before recording
@@tristanwalls6266 he passed January 23rd 1993
@@Harolyn-gn6kc obviously. I was saying they could’ve googled such a thing before pressing record. Considering they’re doing a video on the subject. A little thing I call, research
@@tristanwalls6266 why don't you grow up you have a question ask Scott, I worked for his mother for years so I know the date of death is correct, if you were doing research then you know so I was not talking to you in the first place
He was the original gentle giant with a heart that was even bigger than his enormous size; the more I read/heard about him the more I realized what a gem of a man he was. Oh, and he was a brilliant wrestler too (who invented ice coffee, apparently 😁); RIP big man.
I'm just one person who has worked with people who had any number of physical diagnosis. Unfortunately people often don't understand that having to constantly cope with physical pain doesn't always make you the most chipper person to be around at time's. Despite that reality I think Andre was an exceptional 'person' as well as wrestler and a friend. If anything he's an inspiration for all of us to never give up 💚💌
I bet he was the kindest man you could met. My grandma would watch him on tv. RIP Andre
Meet 😊
Thank you Scott for taking us along with you! Rene was a wonderful man. Passed to young
loved andre loved when he would have the handicapped matches and still not break a sweat awesome guy thank you scott for showing proper respect to the man who deserves it as always a perfect job
He was my hero in the early 70s. Me and my brother used to watch wrestling all the time especially when he fought midgets. I remember when he died. Far to young! So sad! It was devastating for wrestling fans. Such a Legend!
the one and only andre the giant thank you for all the great matches rest easy!
He was a remarkable person and human being. Loved watching him on tv
Glad you posted this. I live about an hour north Ellerbe. Many times I would see Andre sitting, waiting for the plane to board at the Piedmont Triad airport in Greensboro, NC. He was a true giant. I never spoke to him but he always seemed very friendly to those who were brave enough to walk up and speak. He would always be kind to the kids when they would approach. I'll have to go check out the exhibit.
That was awesome! Andre was one of my favorites, along with Macho Man. Brett Hart was my number 2. Wasn't wrestling in the 80s just magical and bigger than life? I kept a clip board with papers on it and kept track of every single match when wrestling was on on Saturdays (or was it Sundays?) Whatever. It was always so fun and I looked forward to the day I could afford a ppv. Mind you, I was a kid, earning .50 cents a week in allowance lol. I do subscribe to the wwe channel now and watch it with my son. I prefer wwf as well but it is still fun. Thanks and praise from Peterborough Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 ♥️
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
He was a awesome special man
Aww, such a sweet video about Andre. He reminded me of a big old teddy bear. Boy, he was huge! I guess in every way, too. I love small towns. It is odd for someone like him to live in a place like thar though. Gosh, all these wrestlers seem to die so young. That's sad. RIP Andre ❤ 💐
Fantastic video Scott. I saw Andre back in the late 70's or early 80's. He was a very kind man for sure.
I was a fan, as a young fella watching the wrestling and to The Princess Bride being one of my faves growing up.
I've watched lots of documentaries on him and he just seemed such a great man.
Absolutely a wrestling fan!! Andre and Hulk my two favorites ! So wonderful to see Andre’s fav spots and his farm!! So glad you made this video
I remember hearing a quote from Andre. He said that he loved being on his ranch with his Texas Long Horn Steers and the dog's (Ridgebacks) because they didn't look at him like people did. He used to just hang out with the folks in town who all treated him like just one of the neighbors. He enjoyed the peace and quiet of nature. At home he had a custom made bed, Jacuzzi and a recliner. He could 'fit' at home. And a big Ford Ranger 👍
fascinating, i did not know that, thank you so much@@lalani888blue
Love Andre . He was in France for his father’s funeral when he passed in his sleep. I’m glad they have a place for his special things to be on display at that museum. My favorite movie of his was the “Princess Bride “ . Thank you for this video on Andre
I have read and watched stories about him and it’s always clear he had a great heart! Great work in covering this Scott
Andre was humble and so generous. He defeated a lot of odds in his life and became an Icon. Thanks for bringing us along Scott!
The kind words are a very nice sentiment, but it’s also know that he could be a very salty and mean spirited person. I suppose the fact that he was in chronic pain alleviate some of his moral responsibility there but, it is what it is.
@@bredenis5It was definitely a combination of thing's...but he had a heart of gold. Every single wrestler has negatives and positives. Nobody's perfect. Andre did GOOD "BOSS" 💪🔥💚💌
Small piece of info here for you Scott m8, Andre started wearing the black singlet to hide a back brace he needed as he was in so much pain and the trunks obviously wouldn't have covered the brace. Great vids dude keep em coming love and respect from Scotland. Just a side note iced coffee has been on the go since the late 19th century and was not invented by Andre, would have been awesome if he did though!
I remember seeing Andre's back brace. It was of course 'massive'. As far as the iced coffee goes... I'm not sure about that but who knows? Maybe being from France this was nothing new to him? It's always heartwarming hearing stories about Andre. He was an inspiration 💌
He accomplished so much. Huge respect to an amazing wrestler!
Hahahaha love the shirt bro!!! Thanks for the shout out my friend! From the X5 fam! See ya soon!😊
See you guys REAL soon. Can’t wait to wrap Big Keith in a big ole bear hug!
I loved Andre The Giant since I was a kid. Those were the best days for wrestling. I recently watched The Princess Bride and got emotional seeing Andre. I love his performance in that. Such a neat exhibit Scott thank you for sharing this with us. Rest in peace Andre. Much love to ya Scott. Peace. Out ✌️
Special man and a awesome wrestler ... R.I.P ANDRE 👏👏♥️
I took my son to see WrestleMania III. The attendance set an indoor entertainment record at that time. Yes, it was something to see Hulk Hogan pick up Andre the Giant ... EPIC
Andre was one of my favorite wrestlers as a little girl. I LOVED HIM!! RIP GENTLE GIANT💔🥲🙏🏿
Andre the Giant was a incredible wrestler he definitely was a legend his match against Hogan at WrestleMania 3 was history making he had a awesome career they even named a battle royal after him which is greatly deserved btw great tribute & video
Thanks Scott, Always loved wrestling... Especially when being forced to watch Tennis as a kid!! -(which I still hate to this day!)
Love Andre the Giant never did get to meet him though or even see him live😪. I've met a lot of other wrestlers in my time with Shawn💔 Michaels being my favorite❣
Would be extremely cool if you could someday go to Connecticut and film WWF/WWE headquarters... R.I.P. ⚘Andre🥀
Scott, you are a celebrity in your own right, but you are so humble, I don't think you realize it, and that is so sweet! Thank you for the awesome videos, blessings, 🙏
Aww no I’m not but thank you
Yes Sir, you are a Star!
I remember watching all of the wrestling greats, with my nephew..He was certainly brilliant. Great video guys.xx😊
Sad to see how the place deteriorated when the Great Andre passed away - RIP
You Know....I can never understand the "PinHeads" that give a "thumbs down" to a video that clearly Scott put so much into. Just amazes me the jelousy that people have. Excellent Tribute Scott. Keep up the awesome videos.
Thank you so much 😊
All Scott videos has a thumb up 👍🏾 never seen thumb down on his videos never. He do a good job every time that part 💯🎯
@@prettylesha Well, that's not 100% accurate but it should be. Scott does an amazing job.
@@prettylesha thank you so much Lesha😂
Loved the 80s & 90s wrestling, I especially loved Audre The Giant like y’all. So always thank you for Scott for yet another amazing video, especially about another WWF wrestling legend. Btw absolutely loved the beginning🤣🤣 You two are awesome. Thank you for all you do Scott. RIP Andre The Giant
I love everything you do brother! Your selling your florida home had me in tears. Thank you Mark. Priceless!! I hope the hugs weren't scripted, if you were a neighbor of mine I would hug the shit out of you! The saying goes if you really love something let it go.
Hi Scott, Rene lived every bit of his 46yrs. He figured he I’m gonna live the way I want. It might have cost him a couple years but I think it’s worth it.
Thanks for this, Scott. Brings back so many memories. Andre was truly an amazing, kind man. ❤💯👍
Was fortunate enough to watch Andre at a match in St Louis, 1978. He was a big man!
Thanks Scott For Making A Video On The One Of The Greatest Giants Of All Time Andrè The Giant #RIPAndreTheGiant #LegendsNeverDie
Loved Andre the giant thank you for doing this
Even though I didn't follow wrestling, it was impossible to not know who Andre the Giant was. I mean, The Princess Bride is just the perfect movie. It's so heartwarming to know that he found such an amazing place to call home that continues to embrace his memory. Also, shout-out to Rayen @Nerdlocations for providing so much information (who knew that's what "potatoes" meant?). Scott, you need to do a video about that Food King! though. I need answers on the need for such extreme punctuation for a grocery store!!!
I know! I gotta go in it!
Awe! I love Andre the Giant. Wonderful video. I’ll forever think of Andre when drinking iced coffee. ❤️

Happy 77th years of age to andre
Andre' was my favorite too.
Sad that there isn’t a grave to pay some respect to him.. from fans and lots of people 🥀
Still a WWF a forever FAN d/t watching it with my Dad. I will have to visit this place with my Dad. My Dad 💜’d Andre The Giant. Another, Great Job!!!
I live 1 hour from there. I never knew he lived there. 😮. I will definitely go visit ☺️ 😊.
Meet Andre after I got out the Army 1978 working for A Team Security Bristol Connecticut when Andre wrestled for WWF when they Filmed in Studio in Stamford Connecticut, we did the security.
He's likely credited as The Giant for PB because the character when Goldman wrote the book was directly inspired by his trips to MSG to see Andre. It is literally Andre's role from the moment pen hit paper. Those who knew him have told me he would be so happy that everyone remembers Fezzik, and that Fezzik may well outlive the Giant in popular culture. To give the last 4 generations of kids such joy would just thrill him. May he get his wish.
I loved him I use to watch wrestling with my brothers. Good video in memory of Andre. May he rest in peace 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Nice video guys- love Andrea the giant-
One of my favorite wrestlers.
May he continue to rest in
eternal peace.

Great video. He was a gentle giant...beautiful spot for him to be have his ashes spread.✌️
Bro that dude could drink beer! Plus he was a classy fella! We sure enjoyed this vlog immensely my friend. He was truly a gentle giant. I will never forget the size of his hands. Lol Hulk Hogan was a little guy in comparison. Appreciate the effort's you put into your vlogs Scott. Absolutely some of the best content on CZcams! Luv&Peace Sean&family. 🙂💛✌🏼
Thank you Sean! Say hi to the family for me !!
A lovely man ❤
Loved Andre the giant. I would say the black wrestling outfit was probably special made for him. As always, awesome video❤

What an awesome tribute to Andre and I enjoyed watching this thanks for sharing it.
Thanks again Scott. Taking me all the way back.
Andre the Giant was And is The Man! 😊👊✊ RIP Andre 😔
Andre was a legendary man. And a good man.
We loved WWF back in the day! Went to a lot of events. Like I said in your Roddy video we know the Hart family. My dad was a barber and cut their hair. I live blocks away from the Hart house in Calgary. Stu would train the wrestlers in the dungeon. My sons still watch wrestling all the time. Andre was a fav of ours too. Great video again Scott. Debbie from Calgary, Canada
Andre was a gift to the world! RIP.
Thank you again, for another wonderful video!
Andre was in an episode of greatest American hero. Wish I had a chance to meet him.grear video, now I'm in the mood for a peanut....time to get one
I like that drawing my bret hart. what a nice thing to do. and they signed it. never knew this.
This was a great video! Big wrestling fan here, so it’s so cool to see the mini exhibit. The Andre peanut sound bite was hilarious. I’m glad the Nerd guy was there to explain the potatoes to you😆
Dude was one those most iconic wrestlers, ya think wrestling and he comes to mind automatically
It's a shame he passed so young, bless him, r.i.p andre xxx
Thank you Scott for this wonderful video of Andre ❤
I love seeing the Andre the giant paintings randomly in every city I used to live in Houston and it seemed like on every overpass and highway you’d see that infamous Andre painting it would be either a small picture or a giant picture but they’re everywhere. Andre is the definition of larger than life.
That is awesome
Pic with Andre herding cattle with his 4 wheeler hmmmm looks like a 3 to me none the less great wrestler and great vid dude 🏴💙
Scott, I watched your videos and I love the care and compassion you have for each and every story you tell. Thank you!!!!
Glorified hip toss….hilarious. I’ve seen a few other video’s on this museum & his place. Gotta say this was the best one of all. Thanks for sharing
Even though he had a hard life, it appears that Andre had close and true friends. Which makes things A LOT BETTER. He had a place to go to, away from the world but he wasnt going to lonely place. He had friends. What a blessing ❤️
Outstanding video😃👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺Well done Scott. There will never be another Andre😃
Good evening Scott, what a great video love Andre! Sweet man with a big heart ♥️. Thank you for all you do for us, I can tell you love what you do 🎉 safe travels
Awesome vlog topic!!
Thanks Scott for the great video. I likes Andre the Giant. Great history on coffee❤
Only once did Andre the Giant come to my home town in Canada.
Andre was on his way home and stopped by in my town in 1990, only my dad was the one who met him in real life, Andre was grocery shopping in my home town and stopped by at the bar and met a lot of people.
My dad wished I was with him that day he met Andre the giant in real life.
But I was at home and he left the town and went off home before I got to meet him, my dad wish I shook hands with Andre, because Andre hands were so big, I never would have forgot about meeting him.
Andre actually started using his "Tarzan" singlet, when he teamed with Blackjack Mulligan and Bill Eadie as the "Machines" (the Super Machine, The Big Machine and The Giant Machine) hailed from "The Orient"
Great video! I loved loved loved Andre and still find him a fascinating person. Unfortunately, some of the facts listed in the museum aren't accurate. It was "Killer Kahn", not "King Kahn" who took credit for breaking Andre's ankle. And Bret Hart (according to Bret's book and Andre's most recent biography) gave Andre that cartoon as a "thank you/farewell" present at Wrestlemania 6. That was Andre's last televised match for WWF and everybody knew it, so that's why Bret did that drawing for him. A very little known fact about that Mania 6 match, Andre wasn't even cleared to wrestle in that match because his health was so bad. He agreed to not tag in at all during the match. He held up that promise, but he still ran interference quite often.
I remember after Andre's retirement (so to speak) he was literally attending a match and he managed to walk in using metal cane's (two). Andre was not the kind of man that would want anyone to feel sorry for him but when I saw that it made me cry. He just never quit until God took him home. I like to think that Andre has the biggest most bestest bed in heaven 😊🐂♉💌
Great video Scott… watched the Andre documentary on Amazon Prime, what a gentle giant he was but he must have been in constant discomfort most of his life. Legend.
I met the giant in person in Montreal a very embarrassed man quite impressive
Bruno was in the battle royal in WrestleMania 1 and he was the one you were pointing to in that picture from WrestleMania 1
