- So you know -- or you've heard -- that the Marais district in Paris is a must-see neighborhood, perhaps a place you want to stay?
Let me show you a perfect day in the Marais. It's really touristy, so getting tips from a local like me will really help you next time you visit.
What I like in the Marais, is:
Le Progrès café (1 rue de Bretagne) for a morning coffee
Shopping along rue de Bretagne (including at my favorite pâtisserie, Bontemps, whose cakes are to die for)
Lunch maybe at le Marché des Enfants Rouge, at one of the many boutique food stands set up in this off-the-street covered market
Or at my favorite eating spot in this area: Café Charlot. Excellent food and cocktails, and the prices reflect that
A walk along the rue des Archives will open your eyes to the gay history the Marais was once known for
And there you'll also find the BHV -- a department store that is a Paris institution, best-known for it extensive hardware section in the basement
Across the road is the Hôtel de Ville -- Paris' City Hall. A beautiful Renaissance edifice that was rebuilt after a devastating 1871 fire
A lot of tourists might stop there, but not us. The Marais many tourists don't know starts behind the Eglise Saint-Gervais. Just go east in the small streets there and you'll dodge the Marais crowds -- and maybe discover the hidden Village Saint-Paul
Back on the beaten path and we head to the Place des Vosges. Beautiful to look at, but well and truly touristy, even down to the cafés around the square
Music (via Artlist.io):
"Lemonade" by Shtriker Big Band
"Something New" (Korean version) by Anthony Lazaro
"Airflow" by Evgeny Bardyuzha
I loved this. You did a wonderful job showing the essence of the neighborhood in a different way. ❤the Marais, despite all the tourists, and can't wait to see other neighborhoods.
Thanks! So many corners of Paris, so many different places to talk about.
Love your content and style. Can’t wait to come back to Paris.
You should! Paris is an endless buffet of possibilities. Thanks for the encouraging words.
Eh bien, I "SMASH-ed" le button. lol. Too good, too fun, too informative, too professional yet light, and so well done - videos. Magnifique!
Merci ! Thanks for the kind words -- ad I'm really glad to hear you appreciate my little efforts
Thank you for sharing about the hardware store in BHV :)
Great place. Pricier than it used to be, but you can find most anything in there
You really are the 🎉 best Paris vlogger!
Probably not, but nice of you to say
I enjoyed this! Can't wait for you to show some other beloved neighborhoods
I'm so happy you enjoyed it.I'll be doing many other neighborhoods of Paris, coming soon. Which ones do you rate highly?
Paris has been my muse for about 30 years now. Will be back this summer. Thanks for the elegant guidance.
Paris is an ageless muse, one hopes. Though always changing, under the timeless surface.
From the USA. I love your down to earth videos. Your English is wonderful. Unfortunately I do not speak French.
Thank you for the kind words. As for my English - well I learned to sing along to English-language music as a kid and it kind of kept developing from there.
Thanks for the videos about Paris. They are really cool , fun to watch , good vibe, and will help us to arrange our trip. 🙏💪🥂
Glad you enjoy them... am planning new ones
What a treat this was to enjoy Paris through your adventures! I will never visit France, but I love seeing it through your videos. Thank you so much from USA.
Paris is one of those places that exists in the intersection of imagination and reality. Even if you don't get to see it one day, I'm glad I can bring a little bit of it to your TV/computer/smartphone....!
Your videos are lovely, I was in Paris a month ago. It is a great city to walk around & I love those sunny terrace cafés with the wicker chairs & small round tables. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
I love those round tables and chairs too! So much that I bought some for my place...
Nice! I really enjoy your stuff. I briefly lived in the Marais on Rue du Bourg Tibourg. This, plus having seen Aida at the NY Met Opera, is helping me bond with your vlog. ;-) Hope you keep it up.
Haha. Now all you have to do is get a dog!
Bonjour Aida. My Mother was born in northern France but moved to Canada after WWII and married my father; a Canadian soldier. My Mom has passed and I am bringing my sister to Paris as it is the city in France my Mother spoke of with such fondness and excitement. We are staying in the Marais and I appreciate your video so much. I am an instant fan and "smashed" the subscribe button as soon as the video was over. Take care and I hope to watch all of your videos. PS - I already know I will return to Paris without even stepping foot there as yet.
That's great you'll soon get to see Paris, and the Marais. Hopefully you'll appreciate your own experience of the city while also 'sharing' your mom's experience. One tip for tea & cakes in the Marais: Bontemps (it has a courtyard salon).
Favourite Paris channel!
Wow! Thanks! (That's a lot to live up to)
I smashed it! 😀 keep going, you're a natural 👏
That wonderful to hear. Thank you!
Thank you for your wonderful videos. New follower here 🙌🏻
That means a lot to me as I start out here. Thank you!
Sundays in le Marais are some of the best times I ever had in Paris. There is a favorite little musee of mine, The Carnavalet, in area. It was being renovated during my visit. I'd love to see what it looks like now. It was such a great place to learn the visit of Paris.
The Carnavalet is reopened, and over this summer there was a lovely cafe/restaurant area set up in its front courtyard. A lovely place.
@@amusingaida Thank for for that update.
A suivre !
@@amusingaida Vous faites ça très bien.
Your day in Le Marais was awesome
I love that place very chic style .
I love your outfit the hat is fit on you.
Hugs from Utah .😺😺😺
Le Marais is now the most magnetic place in the city for visitors. Lovely streets.
@@amusingaida
Yes agree with you Le Marais is
Magnetic and bohemian place
Look awesome
Thanks again 😺
Thank you!
Thanks for watching it, appreciating it -- and taking the time to comment
Your dog is so cute!
Isn't he? And a perfect Paris café dog he is too
What a wonderful take on le Marais. Thank you.
Last time I was there I was sitting at La Favorite (Rue de Rivoli) opposite a church with an amazing clock. However, beside the church is a building with metal work at the balconies. Got me wondering about the feud between the builder and the owner because those balconies can't be that rude by accident.
Could have been a different reason than a feud that..... Not that I'm saying I know.
Hello i just saw your video ....i leave at paris near la plece des vosges...you are it is the more beautiful area in paris even i f paris has a lot of "pepites"to see...hope to see more soon i suscrib to you❤❤❤
You live in a great area of Paris. I have a new video coming up.... I'm not sure when, but I'm working on it
Nice!
👍
Yes a little touristy but to be expected in such a beautiful district. There are still many many worker residents in Le Marais and yes value is hard to find but can be sought out, i seem to find a neighbourhood bar, brassiere every time, with ok value.
The BHV store is mesmerizing 😂 , i never come out the same door i enter , even the metro can be accessed from there .
Nicolas Flamel , maybe try at least once as an experience.
You presentation of Le Marais is delightful.
I'm in the Marais most days. If there are any worker residents left there, I haven't seen them (assuming you mean ouvrier rather than salarié). I've seen that neighbourhood change so much... now there's a lot more Bubble Tea than La vie bohème....
Agreed on BHV, my go-to department store. I usually walk to it, but do know of the métro entrance into the hardware department. Thanks so much for the positive reception to the video!
@@amusingaida "Bubble Tea" 😭 I can not be persuaded to be a Bubble Tea person. Bonne soirée .
Tu es géniale. Merci.
Merci !
Cute doggy , by the way (and I'm the ultimate cat person :)
The dog sends thanks
Love your dog.
Thanks. And woof from him.
You have a big and beautiful dog. So: you have a big apartment in Paris, don't you? :)
He's a French dog. He's used to Paris apartments.
Le Quartier du Marais me plait
Et vous n'êtes pas la seule
A perfect day in the Marais is not to be there, at least the center.
I have 1.3 million people this week who would disagree
Why do you keep slamming places as "too touristy?" Isn't this video for tourists? Isn't your whole channel for tourists? Your content is otherwise interesting, and your onscreen presence is good - but I feel vaguely insulted for watching and making a mental note to visit. I'm a tourist! How horrible of me! ;-)
That's a good observation. And my reply is: my channel, as I conceive it, is not for first-time visitors to Paris (there are plenty of channels doing that already). It's for people already acquainted with the city. I feel more comfortable diving into aspects beyond the introductory ones. No intention to insult people, only wanting to communicate with visitors (or residents) who feel there is so much more behind the curtain
Oh! Okay, that totally makes sense! I appreciate your reply! ❤
