This was legit more helpful than anything financial I learned in school
I'm glad it works for you!!
You’re honest to goodness one of the best creators on the platform and I am so stoked to see when you have new videos drop. Your positivity is infectious and makes everything seem worth trying - even if it’s walking an absurd amount of steps per day. Keep going!!! This is super handy thank you for sharing.
Hey thanks I appreciate it! I was really nervous to post this video because it's so different from my usual videos - but I'm happy its helping people!!
INDEED!!
Gonna come back to this when it's not 11.10pm, this is super useful, thank you! Goodnight from Australia 👋
I love it 😆 Good luck tomorrow 🙌
😂😂😂😂👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
All of this useful information without trying to flog us something? What a hero you are 👏🏼
I know it wasn't the intended idea of the video, but I just learned a lot more about how to work Excel 😁 So thank you!!
Trying to make this myself has really held me back from actually tracking my expenses for so long. Thank you for this!!
Thank you for watching!! :)
While this isnt the most edgey flashy fun video... My god is it ever life changing! I came back to it and sat down at the computer for a couple hours to do this and to make a proper budget... and legit, life changing. I was so unaware of my expenses and this brought all of my finances and my financial goals to life. Thank you so much for this - for all of your videos. Fun and Functional.
Wow!! From a momsie point of view, 😉, your reflection makes my heart sing!
FUN & FUNCTIONAL!!! Perfect combo wording!! Describes her videos/CHANNEL perfectly for me.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I don’t comment on CZcams videos but I had to say you’re awesome at this. Please keep making videos, you’re really cool and your videos are helpful, uplifting, and so fun to watch!
Jeez thanks! I really appreciate the kind words ❤
Definitely coming back to this when I’m ready to confront my spending, see you in a few months. :)
😆 I love it. See you then!
Just checking in to say that I created my budget on the day you posted this, and I've kept up with it so far. It's nice to see 3 full months of data for 2024 in already. Thank you for sharing, and for being an overall lovely human on CZcams!
Hey thank you for the update! It makes me really happy to know that people are using it and finding it helpful :)
I’ve been on the job hunt for over a year now after leaving teaching. I’ve always struggled with budgeting and deemed it as a stress inducing task. I love your videos and this is exactly the type of thing I needed to see! Budgeting can be easy, time efficient, and empowering! Thank you Makari for always providing me with the content I need and I can’t wait to use this when I finally land the dream job!! 🤞❤️
Great video, Makari! Oooh - pivot tables. 😊Financial literacy is a skill than can definitely improve your life, focus on priorities and help you achieve your life goals. Another good book is “Your Money or Your Life”. ❤
Interesting! Will check that out!
I stumbled upon your CZcams Channel yesterday and I'm binge watching your videos. This one was an eye opener for me. I had no idea I was spending so much but I'm so glad I know now so I can make some changes. I've tried budgeting before but got so overwhelmed and gave up. Thank you so so much for this! Also I'm currently watching your solo travel vlog to Dublin....I'm from Ireland 😂 next time go to Cork 😉😂
Thank you so much for the budget sheet. It is way more practical than I thought. Especially with those links and explanations. I really appreciate. I already feel how I can breath easier
Amazing! This makes me so happy to hear
Makari, you absolute godsend!
Hey thanks Anna! I'm happy this works for you :)
Omg makari this is so good. 😊 I legit feel like singing your praises for this upload
I was seriously looking for a sample budget tracker since 2-3 days and you dropped your video. Thanks!!
Heck ya! Love to hear it :)
This is literally so cool, I could not have imagined how literal this title was. Just spent half an hour going through and making my sparkling new budget, which was humbling but so so useful!
You never fail to deliver a good video! I personally love budgeting (and being frugal) as it's helped me to reach my financial goals: 1) work part-time, 2) quit working all together. I can't recommend budgeting enough and this template looks really cool :)
made it 👍🏻 thanks so much, I always thought I really need to have a clearer overview of my money.. I'm sure this will help a lot in the future!
I hope it does!! :)
Done! This is a fantastic tool-thank you!
I'm glad you like it Kirsten! :)
Loving all your content! 🎉 Keep up the amazing work, its appreciated more than youll know
Thank you!! I appreciate it ❤
Wow excited to check this out!!
Thanks so much for putting this together- this is an amazing tool!
I'm really glad it works for you! (hopefully... pending your response on insta 😆)
I love that you made this!! ❤ Keep making videos about things that you care about 🥰
Thank you!! :)
This is definitely the best video on this topic. I love your energy, the value you add, and how easy you make it to follow along. Excited to see your future videos!
Hey thanks Shivam, I really appreciate it! :)
I'm going to have to rewatch this many times. Kinda scared of what my spending will be like. Thank you for this great Budget Doc.
😆
I love your content thank you for caring for us! Love you!
This is epic, thank you so much! I've just found you and think you're brilliant, I look forward to more videos from you!
Thank you for the detailed explanation, it's so helpful!
I'm glad it worked for you!
This is amazing, so simple, so functional! I am definitely replacing this with my current budgeting tool (which is too time consuming and therefore never updated). Looking forward to reach some financial goals! Thanks for making this (and other) fun, entertaining and inspiring content!
I just did this and it's AMAZING, thank you so much! I've saving for new wardrobes to be installed and for a holiday to Scandinavia
I made it and added some sections to show my account balances and what our loans/mortgage will look like at the end of the year. great template, thanks for sharing! Love your channel :)
Well that’s a keeper! Thank you for the easy peasy click click template! Financial Literacy is here and there in our upbringing; great tool for our kids right now as well as for us older types who like to stay on top of things!
Wow. This is amazing!! Thank you so much for this!
This is so helpful! Thank you for this resource :)
Just the best!!
I'm glad this works for you!!
Thank you ! Love your videos
Finally got around to doing this with your guidance! You helped tremendously with making the first step, especially cause I don't like excel, I would have never set this up myself lol. Now I just have to keep it up every month, you're right it's not that scary anymore :D thank youuuu
Lol I'm invested now and even having fun analyzing my spending, so I wanted to input all my data from 2023 to see how that year went - how can I change the whole sheet so that it works for 2023? At the moment it shows individual dates for example Dez 31, Dez 30 in the pivot table
I love to hear that your enjoying your budget!! :)
I believe this is the problem, but let me know if you still have issues after this:
You need to type the date as follows:
Dec 30, 2023
Dec 31, 2023
Dec x, 2023
The sheet does not recognize "dez" as "december".
ALSO
- Make sure the year is 2023. The sheet automatically makes the year 2024 if you don't type otherwise. If the year is outside of 2024 the cell will be red. To get rid of that formatting do this:
- Click column A so the whole column is highlighted
- click "format"
- click "conditional formatting"
- a window will pop up on the right
- hover over the red box area that says "text does not contain 2024" and click the trash button
- or you can just let them be red :)
@@makariespe Ah of course, it works now thank you!! My German took over :,D thanks for being the best
@@Leindy3 I'm glad it works!! :)
thank you for adding "its not scary" in the title, because honestly I was scared to watch this 😂
I just followed your video step by step with your template and WOW what an eye opener! Thank you SO SO much for this incredible useful and detailed budget. This is what I've been looking for for ages!!! You're the best :)
Hey Vivian! I'm so glad it works well for you!! :)
Thanks a lot! Tip for people from other countries than Canada or the USA: at File --> Settings you can change the settings to your country.
This was great!
Came at the right time. So glad you posted this. Very easy to follow. Will use this format from now on. Thank you Makari 🙏
Amazing! I'm so happy to hear this worked for you James!! :)
This is AMAZING thank you!!!
Yay! I'm glad you enjoyed this! :)
this is so helpful! 🙌🏻
Couldn't wait to try it out and did! Super easy, thank you so much for putting this together. Something funky is happening in the pivot table (sent you an IG with the explanation).
I just responded on insta! I think all is good but let me know if not! :)
For others who may have the same question:
The "total" in the pivot table should be 0. If it's not, it means something hasn't been categorized correctly. IF you do want to see the expense category totals you can click on the pivot table pencil icon > then in the pivot table tool bar you will see rows > expense category > and click the checkmark box "show totals". :)
Great great tool thaaaaank you so much ! Just done it, super easy to fill thanks to your tips. Maybe I will finally use my money wisely haha
Yay I'm so glad it works for you!! :)
Liking the video before watching it. Dude, you're pretty great.
another well done video! thanks for thinking it all through and explaining the why and how to fix 📈
Thank you! I'm glad it works for you 😍
Yes!!! Financial literacy is so important. I’m so happy to see more and more people talk about finances and budgets.
Totally agree! The more we can help each other with financial literacy, the more we help with everything in our lives!
💯
I already budget, but my Google sheet is not as fancy, so this is definitely helpful! Thanks!
Love seeing this! I had the same struggle fo not being able to find a good budget sheet and had to make my own. This was a great video and very different from your others!
I'm really glad this worked for you!! :)
Such a great resource. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Megh! I appreciate you 🙌
Outstanding video once again Makari. You should make more videos like this on different subjects. One of the most easiest and well explained videos I've seen on here. Love it
Thank you!!
Welcome @@makariespe
Thank you so much!!
this is such a great resource, thanks for sharing!! I've been using Mint for my budgeting for the past 5 years but it's unfortunately shutting down in just about 2 weeks. I'm definitely going to try following this video before shelling out on a new paid budgeting app!
Oh snap - I didn't know mint was shutting down! And thanks for giving this a try! :) Let me know if you have any questions Kristen - my responses may be a bit slow but I'm happy to help!
Thank you very much for this amazing sheet. I also didn't track my expenses because of the effort. Good evening from Germany. I just had to add some stupid categories and change the currency :)
I'm so happy it works for you 😍
This is so helpful! Thank you :)
I love to hear it!! And thanks for watching :)
Thank you! I inserted my data and from now will track my expenses (I was saving a good pecentage but didn't overview the things I spent my money on the most). The formula of savings in "Budget" page was broken, but I fixed it on my copy. It was very helpfull video cause I was postponing writing down my expenses every time.
Fixed!! Thank you for pointing this out 🙌😄
This is so useful and awesome! Thank you so much!
I'm glad you like it Becca! :)
Awesome spreadsheet!
This is awesome! I just built myself a budget similar to this, but yours is definitely more user friendly 😂
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😆
Great video, love your editing.
Thank you so much! :)
Thanh you so much for this amazing and super helpful video 😍😍
Great guide, thank you!
Thanks for watching!! :)
Love your videos!!
Thanks Oli! :)
And please do your Shorts to promote your CZcams channel so it can gain more audience. You can even make a video about it (For example, I posted shorts three times a week, how much audience did I get from it)
I know I shouuuullldd. There's not enough time in a day! 😆
Wait… will come back in an hour so I can get started
Hey! Big fan of your channel, just found it a few days ago. Love the editing style! Do you edit the videos yourself?
Hey thanks! And yes I do :)
Just FYI you can modify the formula to display a custom value instead of the divide by zero error. You can do it for all similar errors. Source: man with spreadsheet budget 😂
here is the formula Pete is talking about if anyone wants it :)
=IFERROR(SUM(C3:C6)/C2, "")
Note, change "c3,c6,c2" to reflect the cell you want to use
Great video!
Thank you!
Great video, super useful. Quick question, are all of this tables, dynamic tables linked with each other?
I’m trying to personalize it a bit more, and understanding better how it works could be helpful. Thanks
Hey! The only connections are as follows:
-The raw data tab is linked to the income & expense categories tab so that the expense category column in the raw data tab autopopulates.
- The pivot table pulls all of it's data from the raw data tab
Thank you so much for this!
Im trying to set it up for myself rn and I was hoping someone here could answer a quick question for me. Is it possible to change the start date of a month? I get my salary on the 25th so I would like my months to go 25-24 instead of 1-31 😅
Great videos! This one is very helpful. It is going to take me from paper and pencil tracking. I am having issues with the pivot table. I tried what you recommended but still no luck. I am working on the month of January. Instead of January as one lump sum it has made it 3 categories Jan 2024, Jan 15 & Jan 3. My guess is because those are paydays so have the most amount of transactions but I can't seem to get it to group the whole month together. If you have any tips it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Hey Sara! Sorry for the pivot table troubles.
I THINK the issue is that the dates aren't formatted correctly in the raw data tab. You want all of the dates to be in the format as follows:
- Jan 3, 2024
- Jan 15, 2024
- Jan x, 2024
If the dates are different (January 3, Jan 4, 2024, January fifth) it won't pull correctly in the pivot table.
If this doesn't work, let me know and we can try again! :)
Thank you so much! There were extra spaces🤦♀@@makariespe
@@saraollech3567 okay yay I'm glad it's fixed! :)
Had some troubles with the data conversion as a German but with a little extra work it does work really well.
One last question still remains though...did you really buy a Peloton Bike for 3 grand?
Oh good I'm glad you fixed it!
And oh god no 😆 All of the numbers are fake.
Pivot table isn’t working but my raw data sheet is entirely complete as detailed in the video. I tried the method of editing the pivot table preferences, but that didn’t fix it. Any advice? I’m terrible with spreadsheets!
Hey! What do you see when you go to the pivot table tab? :) Also happy to message you on instagram so you can send pictures!
Hey, first thank you so much for this? This came exactly when i needed it! Is there a way to change the currency to GBP? :-)
Hey of course! I'm glad people are using it :) And yes you can. I snagged these instructions from google:
Highlight the data you want to format.
Click Format. Number.
Click Custom currency.
Search in the menu text box to select a format. You can also add your own custom currency format into the text box.
Click Apply.
Let me know if that doesn't work and we can figure something out! :)
Hey just wanted to say love what you are doing and keep it up. I do have a quick question, how would this work this for credit credit purchases and payement. Cause i use credit card #1 to pay my phone bill and then i use my income to pay the monthly statement. I guess im just a bit confused on how i would categorize that using this system
Hey! I input my credit card purchases into the raw data tab. I don’t include my credit card payment in the raw data tab because that would be “double dipping” / counting the pmt twice. I think the only time it would make sense to add credit card payments to the raw data tab would be if you were paying off credit card debt/interest.
Let me know if that doesn’t answer your question!:)
so in your situation you would input the phone bill amount and leave it at that!
I think I get it now. Thanks for responding.
I created 11 Income and Expense Categories. My pivot table shows rows in the following oder 1, 10, 11, 2, 3, 4, etc. How do I get 10 and 11 to show below row 9 not row 1? Thank you in advance!
Hey Katherine! If I understand your problem correctly you can do the following to fix it:
- go to the income and expense categories tab
- rename everything from 1 to 9 as negative values. So, -1,-2,-3,-4 and so on
- Then you can keep 10 and 11 as positive values
It's a workaround for sure - thanks for flagging this use case! Let me know if that didn't answer your question though! :)
Is it possible to change the currence and when how do you do that?
Hey Jaqueline yes you can!
I snagged these instructions from google:
Highlight the data you want to format.
Click Format. Number.
Click Custom currency.
Search in the menu text box to select a format. You can also add your own custom currency format into the text box.
Click Apply.
Let me know if that doesn't work and we can figure something out! :)
