VE33S is the Goldilocks of tires. It has been a fantastic performer in the Northeast tight technical environments of, rocks, roots, brook crossings and mud.
Your evaluation and video is really well-organized and informative. You deliver useful information that enables the viewer to make an informed decision. IMHO, the background music is nice and the proper volume. Thank you.
Thanks for taking the time for doing this review. I’ve been running the ve-33s for a few months now in the Vancouver BC area (PNW) and it’s by far my favourite tire to date. For winter riding weather (cold and wet here), I just put on a set of Dunlop AT81-Ex. They’re very gummy with amazing grip in the wet roots. I look forward to trying the IX-09 to compare.
I agree - VE33s is my fav all-around tire. I’ve heard good things about the EX. ITC is coming out w an update to the ix-09 - it will have a stiffer carcass.
I’m from Vancouver washington and do a lot of riding out near Tillamook Oregon (browns camp, diamond mill, etc.) haven’t ever done much riding out near Spokane/Idaho area. Hoping to get out there this December though! Great video man
For my Westbird5 KTM 500 I've been very pleased with the M5B coupled with a Tubliss and LOW psi. Like Velcro traction I tell people! As it wears down I get another fresh tire feel when I cut and edge on the leading corners. I ride it in the ugliest PNW trails in the winter sloppy roots and rocks. My channel vids reveal this traction. I must state though, the Rekluse in 2nd gear instead of 1st in the gnarly tech stuff is THE magic for maintaining traction!
In Southern California also. Which would you recommend for our riding? I’m coming off the Bridgestone m404 which was an alright tire. Looking for a little more grip on hard pack
@@Bananahammock88 I like the IRC M5B for soft and loose, and surprisingly hooks up on most terrain. The VE33S is awesome, but doesn't last long The 525S is pretty good too and lasts a bit longer than the VE33S.
I haven’t tried it, just read other reviews where they mentioned issues w tubliss. In theory should be fine, you just won’t need to run as low pressure.
WA Semi-Hard Enduro I just put 7 hours on the ix09w gakkota with tubliss in Moab (obviously the wrong application) and punctured it. The 2 ply gakkota probably needs an HD tube. And in 7 hours the tire was gone.
Appreciate the review! I have a M5B sitting in shed that I am planning on running in the E Washington races this season. How would you compare the VE33S to the Cheater 525? The 525 has been my go to tire for the PNW.
I’m not tire spinner but Dunlop’s at81ex is soft and only last for 15 hours. I flip the direction each 7-8 hours which is about half of its life I think this tire is close to ix09w and has 2 plies of struct as well. I had 3 flat tires in 6 hours with tubliss…… What do you think about JX8? In between ve33 and ix09?
I'm a big fan of the JX8. It's very similar to the AT81EX. The JX8 seems to have a stiffer sidewall through, but they both have soft crowns. I like the JX8 a bit more overall, but the AT81EX has larger/wider knobs that help it dig in soft terrain instead of folding.
Interesting about the M5B sizing being smaller than expected. Is this your opinion or something known in the industry? I was going to order a 120/80-18 but now I'm thinking a 130 at least.
Where are you located? Other parts of the world have better access to some other great tires that we can’t get very easily here in the US. I’d love to try Mitas tires, but they’re expensive here.
I am very interested in the VE33S but the 110 size makes me leary. I've always ran the FIM rated 140 tires (Michelin and Shinko). Does the 110 mount up larger than the size indicates? I wish they would offer the tire in a larger size
@@ashu9330 Never used the Dunlop. MX isn’t my thing, so hard for me to say. I hear good things about the MX33 for track use though - if I were riding mx, that’s probably the tire I’d start with.

VE33s is my go-to tire for the Sierra Nevada mountain range, with TUbliss 3-4 psi and you can conquer anything

Nice review!! I love the v33s 💕 I will never run another rear!! Does well with fast single track as well.

Just picked up the VE33S for my TE300. As you stated, I've heard it's a great all arounder.
I’m an ix09w gekotta person here in East Tennessee. Can’t beat it.
the best tire review ever !!

Awesome video helped a lot
I run M5B here in Southern California. Just tried the ve33s, not too bad on loose sand.

Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the review! Hopefully I don’t run into problems with the soft carcass of the ix-09w gakkota with the tubliss system.

Yeah the VE33S Gekkota or 525 Cheater would probably hold up much better there.
Great review mate, very helpful ;-)

The VE33s is very similar to the 525 Cheater! Can’t go wrong with either, just avoid the 110 Cheater. The 120 is better, it heavier.
I agree. The 120 version of the 525 is very similar in performance to the VE33S. The 110 version of the 525 chunks easily.

M5B sizing is known to be off. If you’d normally run a 120 in another tire, then get the 140 M5B.
Wonder how these compare to an at81 at 0psi
The background music is too loud
yeah man my ix09 wear out pretty fast too
I just tried flipping an iX-09w - we will see if that can extend the life a bit.
Nice review. If I can find a VE33S or M5B at a reasonable price where I am, I'm be keen to try.

turn off the music.
Lower the damn music! Otherwise a good vid.
Which type better for dual purpose??
None… You probably want a street legal tire, none of these are. Like a GT333

It’s equivalent width to most 120s, not quite as tall though.
You will not regret it hah I’ll run nothing else but up here in the pnw
This HAS to be trail bound.
Which tire do you think will be best for loamy muddy mx track during rainy season?
M5B for sure
