- It’s time to say goodbye to the 9.7 inch iPad Pro. According to Apple, 10.5 inches is the goldilocks size for their newest Pro. It’s not too big, not too small, and is essentially a refined version of its 12.9 inch predecessor.
This Pro packs an on screen keyboard with full sized keys, improved latency when using the apple pencil, a fancy new display that offers true tone color plus pro motion, all powered by Apple’s new A10X Processor. With so many upgrades, we’re left with only one option: get out our tools and tear it down!

You know its hard to open the display when ifixit THEMSELVES break the ribbon cables smh
Firealarm102 I actually believed that all iFixit tear downs resulted in all sorts of ribbon breaks.
Actually it can be done without damage, IT'S A NEW LOCATION THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT......It was previously on the side, now it's on the bottom, they found out by trial and error. Once you know where it is, it can be opened successfully.
when even apple doesn't fix it
You guys are really quick to make a nice video about this new product!
It's their profession, of course they are, got to stay ahead of the curve.
Excellent video. Keep it up!
I'm looking forward to the new 27" imac teardown
fused front panel = laminated display = better everything
Great teardown!
Thanks for tearing it down!
Eureka, finally I've discovered best channel on CZcams
Just for the purpose of having a thin and sturdy device, I prefer this than one easy to dissemble.
I love my iPad Pro 9.7", but it seems like springboard keeps crashing because apparently its a about a gig short on RAM.
Anyway, with all that adhesive, you would think the iPad would have a bit more water resistance.
My iPad, when facedown, is sometimes hard to pick up, and sometimes get added stress on the Lightning port. Lightning port replaceability, and added water resistance should be added in future revisions. Not to the extent of an iPhone, but enough to resist 100% humidity or a quick splash for short periods, as people using tablets also use them as portable TVs.
Would the water/humidity resistance of this recent iPad be better, than say, previous generations? I'm hoping that if they are going to be using ore adhesive, it better come with water and environmental resistance, than to reduce serviceability, ala Samsung. Otherwise, I'm very disappointed at the move towards planned obsolescence for a black box system.
Can you make a video replacing the charging port on the iPad pro 10.5 ? I can't find any video on CZcams or internet showing how to replace it
Is the Surface Pro next on the teardown list?
The battery is enormous !
Can you use the the selfie camera when you take it outside and use it as a spy cam or something cause I took my one out and want to use it as a spy cam
Stop complaining about the display and glass being fused together. The improvements of laminating a display to the glass makes up for it.
But I thought everybody loved a display sunk an inch below the glass. That's why all the chinese tablets do it, right?
Tb0n3 no just no
Is it a way where the ipad pro 10.5 glass digitizer can be replaced. instead of the whole LCD
Apple doesn't want anyone inside their devices. But,,we will ALWAYS find a way.
I have this iPad and the apple button although it works still it doesn’t push in anymore, is this button easy to repair even though it’s fingerprint?
but will it blend..
Bean that is the question
Wicked Viper Not bend, blend...
Please use Wh, it's written right on it, 30.8
apple should play with the heatpipe it change the overheat game
same issue
Wheres a good place to buy this display?
Lol I didn't expect this so fast
Where can I get that iFixIt guitar pick? 😂😂
This is why I love apple
Para Mi iFitxi Es El Futuro !!! ;) Quisiera Hacer Inboxin
Is the A10X made with 10nm process? That would be huge as A9X used 16nm.
Fredrik Dahlin no A10x is 14nm
Where there is a will and a paying customer, there is a way ifixit
Apple doesn't want people repair iPads that the reason why they made so difficult to repair.. they prefer bring you a new one (surely refurbished) and repair it for resale as refurbished also.
Giorat23 I prefer apple's refurbished than me's repair :'v
Because they want a thin and light iPad. No one wants a lego iPad
Aren't people who repair iPads that Apple resales as refurbished?
Giorat23 Apple actually makes their devices easy as shit to repair. You have to realize that Apple engineers are most likely considered when designing a new device because they need to repair them at Apple stores. If you're good enough, you may also just learn to repair them. I repair my own apple devices and I'm terrible with electronics so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You can have a solid, very well constructed machine or you can have one that's easy to disassemble and repair. Pick one.
Better than MBP 15 touch bar......
ชอบมากครับ
Tear down the iPad 6 (2018 IPad )
8134 mAh ? OMGGGGG
Pi. Studios yea but it’s a tablet so I hope it last at least 10 hours long
With light usage, I nearly hit 12 hours with my 10.5" Pro, so it's not impossible
Subtitle pleaseee
I really don't think that was a fair score, every part came out and could be swapped. Yea it was glued but it is still possible to repair
ipad pro has li-po battery...so why li-ion is written on this one??
Because it still uses lithium ions inside.
Mine has a busted lightning port. Factory defect. Barely over a year old. Apple wants 449$ for replacement
I like this girl.
this channel is amazing but idk why it's subscriber count is similar to JerryRigsEverything
Jerry has more than 5 million subs now
Apple products don’t need a teardown i guess so reliable
Reliability has nothing to do with ware and tear. The battery will not last any longer than 2 years, and will need replacing. Everything else? Sure.
Any product you ever gave 10/10???
there is. Ex) Fairphone 2.

Der Kommentator Nokia 3310
damn the mother board was glued ! what is this a 5$ electronic toy?
Seif Eddine B trust me a 5 dollar eletronic toy would have a cheap glue glued board
iPad 2 looks like from 90s
Lol is she wearing a chocker
What would get a 10/10? Actual Lego's?
Anyone knowing the name of this song? Shazam fails... -.-
Only place where you can find that it's a 4GB LPDDR4 RAM.
Unlike some folks in the universe saying it a *G*DDR5, for god's sake!! It is made only to be used with graphics, not always higher number is better.
Hey I’m using iPad pro 9.7! 🤣
gluing a lipo battery into an aluminum heat sink case next to hot logic makes no sense & is horribly unethical
li-po batteries fail, swelling up toward the end of their life
if a li-po battery is ripped while swelling, the tear can cause venting with flame (galaxy note 7) which bricks the device + more
li-po cells have a finite useful life : often vastly exceeded by the high quality boards, displays and cases that Apple builds with!
if a li-po battery is glued into place, removing it become hazardous, requiring the heating of the flammable oil filled lithium cobalt fire prone battery, or the use of toxic solvents to soften the glue
while iPad battery changes are notoriously difficult : I kept my ancient iPad 2 battery between 30-80% charged and it still works to my utter amazement : meaning that Apple used some special sauce in the chemistry : that resulted in a battery that keeps going and going
most end users harm their device batteries by repeated 100% charging : every time a li-po cell is fully charged it loses capacity faster : fully charging causes mechanical shrink swelling damage of the anode and cathode
aerospace li-po batteries are fully charged to 3.77vdc and the low voltage discharge cutoff is 3.15vdc : roughly 32-77% state of charge range respectively!
Are so pretty
When will they replace that horrific TV
Anyone else typing on iPad Pro 12.9 inch with Logitech Keyboard?
Lemon Clorox Bleach Imposter I’m using the iPad Pro 12.9” 😎☺️
Man, those bottom speakers look weak. Hopefully they perform well
Aaron Wafflez they don't.
Allan Sh But how do they compare to the iPad 9.7"? I owned an older iPad 4, but when I moved to this one, its basically my TV. The sound is surprisingly great for the form factor. But if its not equivalent audibly to the 9.7", its not worth regretting not waiting for.
Allan Sh they perform really really good what are you talking about
Aaron Wafflez they do.
very well
This doesn't tell me where the WiFi chip is which is the very thing I came for
0:38 Ouch!
Þjóðrekur Haavard exactly
Yeah seeing those bubbles from the glass and LCD separating made my stomach turn 😭
Good way to avoid that is using alcohol instead of heat once you are able to get a plastic card between the frame and screen.
This is permanent damage as it seems?
Is it usb 3.0 like the ipad pro 12.9" first gen ?
Ruben Chavez yes
Ruben Chavez yes
Various replies but who can confirm it is usb 3.0 ?
Apple made it clear that both the 2nd gen 12.9 inch and the 10.5 support usb 3.0. The only difference is the screen size.
Can you point me where ? Sorry I just have to make sure before purchasing.
better than intentionally "not repairable" surface pro
Hari Haran I don't think either brand wants you to repair them. Just buy the extended warranty and a new one every two years
CF542 agree but it can't be so less powerful then my 5 year old XPS 17 and it's expensive which does some serious video editing too
The device review teardown is nearly the same as surface pro 2017 but it get 2/10 and MS surface pro 1/10. LOL.
All these dorks talking about the ipad and I'm looking at the blonde in the choker.
tes wifi 4G
U speak Soo fast
I'm not a professional or anything but really a 2 just because it has much glue? You give higher numbers to things way more difficult with tons of screws and other things don't have much sense to me
add apple homepod to the list
Apple products never break. Why should people worry how to repair it?
Lol
Jk
You don't really think you're gonna keep a piece of technology forever, right? You would dump the current one in 1 or 2 years when newer products come out once or twice a year. Even if the one you're using is just working well with no problem.
Hard to repair? *WELL, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE BROKEN IT!!!*
OK, I took this too far.
YOU CAN'T SODDER SOMETHING IN PLACE!
何て話しよるとかいっちょんわからん(๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)日本語表示お願いしゃす
And scammers at apple store London told me they can’t fix my battery as thry are not able to open the ipad and wanted me to pay full price for new ipad rather than fixing the faulty battery 😕 Apple = Scammers
3.5 mm jack .
a step backwards
No, not really.
Shashwat Mathur It has the space so they put it in.
Jack_Cydia The iPhone 7 had the space too. Besides, I thought that the headphone jack was old technology that needed to go away.
It's not like they couldn't put the jack in the 7. It's no smaller than the 6, and I've seen videos proving that it could be done. The headphone jack does not take up that much space.
Why won't they put an iPhone motherboard in there and fill the rest with battery
JoneTech, bigger resolution means more graphics so it needs better GPU and support for all the other stuff
Interesting question indeed my friend.
JoneTech the A10X Fusion processor is significantly better than the A10 Fusion chip on the iPhone.
Jack_Cydia I mean a iPhone sized motherboard give or take the space for the bigger cpu
The iPad logic boards only have the chips on one side. The iPhone has chips on both sides of the logic board
25th!
Hahahaha first/ second comment LOL
iPad Pro without Pro, all are peace of crape.
This video it all about promoting apple, blah blah blah, apple... WTF!
GOSH you are beautiful! :O - how am I supposed to focus on the iPad now? Please, hire ugly people!
Stick with my pro 9.7. What a stupid excuse of an iPad 😂
If iFixit had their way, we would all be back in the 1960s with rack mounted NAND gates and ZIF mounting and an iPad would be mounted in a wheeled cart because it would be so huge (if it even could be put on a cart).
Please quit slowing down technology and get a real job.
Robert Evans they do have a job. it is called fixing other people's stuff.
