Four years ago I was watching this video and realized you were rebuilding a chainsaw exactly like mine. I could not believe that my piston looked as bad as yours but I was so wrong. I rebuilt the whole thing watching your videos- carburetor included - and everything came together like clockwork. I depend on that saw and since the rebuild, it has never let me down. Thanks very much!
@@donyboy73 I followed your advice and ordered the parts from China. I think the name of the company was "Farmer Tech" which I thought was a weird name, but whatever. I enjoy your videos. Whenever I run into small engine issue, I keep coming back. Thanks!
Donny, I'm really glad this video was still up. Seven years ago I rebuilt my 55 watching you, and last fall I just knew it was time to do it again. It's been my go-to saw, and with a new top end and carb, I'm sure it will stay that way. Thanks!
Just rebuilt my old chainsaw following your 3 parts videos, everything when ok ... explanation and video is so clear, it was easy to follow .... thank you ..
I'm 15 and I live on a farm we sell fire wood and I have an air injector 55 and rebuilt the motor with the help of you thanks a lot we saved a lot of money
I'm impressed, I wish all young kids would work hard like you. I can't seem to get my 16 year old stepson to do anything. We have 2.5 ac acres with a majority of the property covered with oak and madrone trees, I give my stepson lots of chores to do but he doesn't want to do much , I even pay him good money.
Thanks for these videos, i have an old husky 55 air injection that was my grandpas. Been giving me all kinds of trouble. A rebuild is in order. These videos will help immensly!
Just a quick tip from a machinist who has to use allen wrenches daily. Sometimes when we get a bolt thats tight or in an awkward place, well get a small metal tube and put it on the short end of the wrench and this way you get lots of leverage and it might be a bit easier than a pair of pliers. But your method obviously works too! I like the videos.
I am not mechanically inclined, but its a very nice experience hearing you explain things in detail. Small engine repair is very costly and yet can be very simple. Keep up the good work.
donyboy73 hi. if the cilinder doesnt have a gasket at all, i just have to smear a bit of silicone on it with my finger and it will seal the thing?:o (i have another model)
@azfires000 I USED GAS AND A PAINT BRUSH IN A CONTAINER OUTSIDE AWAY FROM ANY SPARKS OR FIRE HAZARDS, if dirt fell in the crank case i would vacuum it out with a shop vac
@donyboy73 I really didnt know if I was gonna end with some few extra bolts... but I manage to get a diagram of the parts from a website. the Intake booth was a little pain .... but we made it, and I was so happy!! Thank you for the awesome videos donyboy!
I like your videos, very informative and detailful! I have a 30 year old homelite bandit chainsaw engine and I am also rebuilding it. It is the first engine I have rebuilt and I am so excited!
Donyboy, I rebuild it and it fired right up!!! i follow all the tip like in the video! thanks for all the help and awesome videos! i hope that will do the job falling some tress!! hehehe
The high def at full screen if excellent I could see every scratch on the parts and main unit . glad you got a better computer to do the high def as it is a whole lot better not that your other videos were bad those were excellent too.
120 in/lbs or 9.6-11 ft/lbs head bolt torque spec incase anyone came to this video like me looking for this info. Cheers gents! Mine started 3rd pull! A splash of gas in the carb helps
Hello, really nice videos, im an engine tuner (2-4 strokes) and, you should put the wrist pin clip at either 12 or 6 o clock, if 3 or 9, they can snap off their groove because of the piston acceleration, especially on high speed engines ;-)
Hi Dony Been waiting for this vid for a while, nicely done with great editing, not too much watching screws being undone all the way! Lookin forward to pt 3 :-)
Could you explain on a video some time how decompressor work? I understand what they are used for, I just don't know what causes them to open and close at the proper time. Thanks for these wonderful videos.
Why??? Why i didn't saw you video some days ago.... I have a 2 strokes engine with two cylinders and for some reason one of them always have low compression, after days of thinking and replacing the rings I thought that the exhaust port can be damaging them. Now I found your video and you confirm my suspicions, now i need to wait for the new rings. thanks for your video.
@donyboy73 your husq/stihl dealer should give you a contact, canada is another continent to me. :D I'm not an opponent of cheap parts, but someone already partially pointed out - it's chrome plated but should be nikasil. nickel matrix plating gives the endurance and torture tolerance. bit more expensive but worth it. chrome is very brittle and can flake off, but nickel matrix is actually impregnated silicon carbide. OEM pistons are also forged, not cast.
When you put the piston into the cylinder, you pointed out a little pin that you lined the gap of the ring with. Does that pin hold the ring in place so it can't rotate? I've never seen such a pin in auto engines. Is that little pin unique to this kind of engine?
These videos were great. I did something I never thought I could do. However.. I reassembled. Got compression. Got spark. Cranked for a second with starter spray in carburetor. I tried bleeding the fuel line. I had soaked the carburetor but no maintenance. Can I assume it's the carburetor? An idea for you is to review these rebuild kits!
This video series is great. My only question is the original cylinder on my 51 did not have a port for the decompression valve and the new cylinder does. Do I simply cap it ?
Super excellent video as usual. You cleaned up the saw great it looks brand new. What a difference from the previous video. Do you have a parts washer?
Some of those P/C kits aren't bad but the rings are junk, spend a few more dollars and use Caber rings. BTW ... RTV silicone is not fuel resistant, no need to add anything. to the gasket
Excellent tutorial. I am overhauling a Husqvarna hedge cutter. Failed to start after loaning it out - I suspect incorrect fuel/oil mix might have caused damage to piston / rings. I have overhaled the carb but still wont start. Is the cause now likely to be piston or ring damage caused by possible overheating? Watching your vid now has given me confidence to dissasemble or can I check compression first (if so how is this best done?)
I need to do a top end rebuild on a stihl fs 80 is it about the same like you did on the 55 Husqvarna if you can lmn i can not find a video on it no where
Hi. I have a husqvarna 55 and i need to replace the piston and liner ,Where do you recommend getting the parts and whats aa good price to pay for them? there are lots of suppliers and prices on the web thanks, HRose

pro trick : watch movies at kaldrostream. Me and my gf have been using it for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.
@Kaleb Forrest yup, have been watching on kaldroStream for since november myself =)

I've always used Loctite when building saws b/c of vibration. Also a stickler on proper torque specs. Good video, straight to the point.
great video. my 55 just blew the top end after 20yrs use. your video plus a new kit saved me buying a new saw!
+Jonathan Lee thanks for watching

This guy is pretty good!! He has good videos.
Im not rebuilding a chainsaw, i just like watching videos like this so i will learn more about small engines.
Great job on the video! Nice to see something repaired instead of thrown away.
I am not mechanically inclined, but its a very nice experience hearing you explain things in detail. Small engine repair is very costly and yet can be very simple. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for putting this out there! I also used a chinese top end & thanks to your videos, it now runs like a top. Much appreciated!
you're welcome

@chrisc1032 just insert a rag around the connecting rod, sometimes i use a shop vac nozzles to suck out any dirt

that sucker is a hoss! good job db73!!
Thank you Donny! You Are my go to guy on small engine repair instruction.
@FunOnTheFarm7 not necessarily but i prefer to, make sure it is rtv silicone
i used gas and a paintbrush, i just stick a rag in the case to prevent dirt from going in. then u can vaccuum out any dirt if some got in
I like your videos, very informative and detailful!
I have a 30 year old homelite bandit chainsaw engine and I am also rebuilding it. It is the first engine I have rebuilt and I am so excited!
@spelunkerd yesw the pin is to stop the ring from rotating, it is on most 2 stroke engines and you won't find it on 4 cycle engines
you can use a parts washer, i put a rag where the connecting rod is to prevent dirt from getting inside
@acscolo how are you? i cleaned it with my air compressor and some gas, i'm hoping to get a proper parts washer this summer, take care
Makes it look easy as pie, I've never been able to install a piston and rings like that. I've always had to use a ring compression tool.
@99carnot yes i use craftsman tools as well
Donyboy, I rebuild it and it fired right up!!! i follow all the tip like in the video! thanks for all the help and awesome videos! i hope that will do the job falling some tress!! hehehe

@dosher101 they are both 2 strokes but different engines
it doesn't take long for compression to build up if all parts are still good
@kimokanka thanks man! i recommend an OEM kit from husqvarna, but u can take a chance with the chinese kit
the problem in your case is that the cylinder piston and rings all need to be replaced at the same time to have optimum compression,
@FunOnTheFarm7 because the crankcase should be the same
Hi Dony,
Very informative as usual. Would like to have seen how you cleaned the saw so well, especially how you kept the crankcase clean
Great video. I just rebuilt a Stihl 044. I will post a video soon. I will send a email to all new subscribers
120 in/lbs or 9.6-11 ft/lbs head bolt torque spec incase anyone came to this video like me looking for this info. Cheers gents! Mine started 3rd pull! A splash of gas in the carb helps
@azfires000 no videos yet but it the same idea as any other rebuild, be careful with the intake boot

Good person and good mecanic
NOT YET BUT IF YOU LOOK AT MY OTHER CARB REBUILD VIDS IT WILL BE VERY SIMILAR
Excellent video buddy!! Very well explained and good to watch. well done.
Hi Dony
Been waiting for this vid for a while, nicely done with great editing, not too much watching screws being undone all the way!
Lookin forward to pt 3 :-)
Excellent series, well done.
non oem is not as good, will hold up for home use but not commercial except for the tecomec kits, make sure the kit you get is nikasil coated
Well done donny great job.
@AttackratUK THANKS man, part 3 tommorrow
@Smallgasengine1 i do not believe it is chrome plated,
Thanks so much, I really appreciate the time and knowledge you have put into your channel. Add a new subscriber!
Could you explain on a video some time how decompressor work? I understand what they are used for, I just don't know what causes them to open and close at the proper time.
Thanks for these wonderful videos.
i also use permatex motoseal, better in gas environments

that may have been for the handle or a buffer
@sscustoms100 i used corel videostudio
thanks for watching!

@3wheeler016 thanks for the tip
thanks for the tip!
@lulukelley2004 did you try a new ignition module?
Is there any kind of shim that under the cylinder sits in front of the casing ? Seems gas is coming out down by under carb.
@peebstech good tip!
Great video. Do you have a link to the parts you used? I am trying to be sure I get the correct parts.
This video series is great. My only question is the original cylinder on my 51 did not have a port for the decompression valve and the new cylinder does. Do I simply cap it ?
yes just cap it, you can buy the caps on ebay
@azfires000 it would be better with the head off especially with such an expensive saw
thank you!
Excellent video I learned alot!
apparently it still runs, but they don't last as long as OEM
@BR4DL3YY it is 55cc
what kind of oil do you use in your oil can to lubricate the piston and cylinder? It looks red.
@Cenobita90 thanks
What is the purpose of mixing the oil and transmission fluid? Thanks for all your help!!
I am trying to repair one right now, but I’m trying to pull the head off and the piston will not come out the head. What is causing the problem
@azfires000 nice to hear!
@donyboy73 seen one in london, back in 1989, very nice, lol
welcome!
thank you
@rtzapper thanks

@ncrdisabled just got the new pc last week
@seasonedtoker LOL, a fake queen, lol, it's for a friend of mine and he wanted to try the chinese kit, do you have the links for the other suppliers?
What process did you use to get the case so clean and not get any foreign matter inside of the case?
I'm doing this on a smaller engine and having trouble putting the cylinder in with the clip. Any tips to make this part easier?
make sure you check the ring gap too!
@TDHReviews you're best to go to a Husqvarna dealer
where can i find a piston ring for a husqvarna 155bt backpack blower besides ebay?
nice job!
i bought this kit on ebay
Good video man thumbs up !
I need to do a top end rebuild on a stihl fs 80 is it about the same like you did on the 55 Husqvarna if you can lmn i can not find a video on it no where
@azfires000 blue loctite and motoseal rtv silicone
are these engine the same as the one's on the pocket bike are the weed eater?
do you flush the crank case with the solvent also once the exterior is clean?
Is there any way to completely remove the whole engine? Including the crank case. Great video.
Hi. I have a husqvarna 55 and i need to replace the piston and liner ,Where do you recommend getting the parts and whats aa good price to pay for them? there are lots of suppliers and prices on the web thanks,
HRose
What can i do to fixs? The two bolts that you put the bar on to..One of them are turning in its self. So now i can not tightened the bar on the saw...
