Thank you for having him put the top up. I loved my 1966 Impala convertible I had as a 17 yr old kid (used) bought in 1973, but always thought convertibles looked better with the top up! I enjoyed it down while driving it as did my girlfriend, but it sure looked better with it up... it was red with a white top. I have some nice pics that I keep in an album kind of hidden, my wife does not like seeing them as she was NOT the girlfriend in the pictures, and even at age 57 and 35 years of marriage, she still does not like seeing her in my car..🤣 Great video beautiful Desoto survivor.

Desoto really outdid themselves in '58. It's a beautiful car from any angle and this example is particularly impressive. It just scream "1950's". I like the rich red contrasting the ivory paint. I also like how Desoto tapered the trunk to further accentuate the height of the fins. It should be mentioned that an ultra-rare '58 Desoto would be one with the optional electronic fuel injection. A first in the industry. Very few were ordered and just about all of them were converted back to a conventional carburetor set-up. I know of only one authenticated example in existence today.

Wow Lou a 1958 Desoto! Can't get any better than that. I love anything from 1958 as that was my birth year. As I look at this great Desoto it just amazed me on how much it looks like a Chrysler. We had a 1958 Chrysler Saratoga and it had the hemi engine in it. And I just bet this Desoto has a hemi too as I do believe that was the same cubic inch engine we had in our Chrysler. Desoto cars always had great lines to them. I was disheartened when they ceased making them. Love the colors of this Desoto it really would have been different to see it with a redtop to match the body and interior color. I just love love those wire wheels really seats off that car.. Loved the owner and his excitement of his car. A great survivor means a lot when it is so original like it is! Lou another great great video and again thanks for sharing!!!

Hi, Lou! I must say, Greg is very fortunate to have found this one! DeSoto sure had great looking cars in 1958, with their sweeping tailfins and side trim. But that year was basically the beginning of the end for DeSoto. Not only was it a deep recession year that hit the middle-price market in which DeSoto competed especially hard, but Chrysler build quality had gone downhill and DeSoto was facing a lot of pricing pressure from Dodge and the Chrysler brand, and by 1961 it was gone for good.
What's interesting about the Firesweep is that it was built with Dodge, mainly at the Dodge Main plant in Hamtramck, Michigan, and shared some details with Dodge, most notably the same standard engine, a shorter wheelbase, a shorter hood and the "unibrow" treatment above the headlights. Other DeSotos, the Firedome, Fireflite and Adventurer, were built at DeSoto's own plant in Detroit.
Enjoy your new old pleasure cruiser, Greg, and Lou, ILL CYA L8R in the next one!

Beautiful find Lou! I used to love the '59 DeSoto and that was it, nowadays....I can't decide between the '57, '58 OR '59! These days, I've to go eeny, meeny, miny, moe on them!
    On with the ride!
Happy New Year....here's to a helluva lot better 2021! 🍻

Fintastic DeSoto, Greg, nice 'automobile' to add to the VW stable. Looks even more beautiful with the top up. Chemical Guys makes a fantastic PH balanced wash, & spray on protectant. I used it on my 2013 Camaro convertible and the top looked brand new when I traded it in 5 yrs later, in Phx!

Another great car and review. These were great looking cars. I personally think it looks better with the top up, but then I have been a fan of Christine for years.(yes I know they are different) This must be Christines long lost cousin Maybeline. LOL. Thank for sharing, Lou.

The 57-60 Chryslers were the peak of styling IMHO, but considering how bad the metal quality was on them, it's gotta be extremely rare for one of these Desotos to survive in this condition. The cars were such rust buckets back in the day that they started rusting out inside of 3 years.

After so much emphasis on the 1958 Plymouth Fury (Thanks to the great Stephen King), it's nice to see this DeSoto rarity! Enginewise, trim, and interior/instrument panel, this is sort of where Chrysler's Plymouth sibling had left off...The late 50s WAS Detroit during its prime!
